"Playing 'Schizophrenia' for Paul Smith on Eldridge Street, Moore was taken aback when Smith said, 'I can't believe you made a record like this.' Moore didn't know what to make of the remark; maybe Smith was disappointed it wasn't noisy enough. No, Smith said; he loved it because it reminded him of New Order. Moore never would have thought of the connection. The British new-wave and synthpop scene so turned him off that, had he taken the remark the wrong way, he says, 'I would have stopped writing songs.'"
-GOODBYE 20th CENTURY: A BIOGRAPHY OF SONIC YOUTH (David Browne, Da Capo Press, 2008)
Started off seeming silly and wasn't sure where the story was going or if I'd enjoy it. There were at least 4-5 times in the 70 pages where I had to put the book down and really contemplate what I read and what it may have meant. Most of the book seemed to be a meditation on The Myth of Sisyphus by Camus. By the end, I still wasn't sure where the story had gone or what the hell was happening, but I felt a profound impact from having read it. A sense of calming came over me when I finished, and I think I'm a little more comfortable in my skin then I was before I read it. Sometimes you have to look at life in a different perspective in order to truly appreciate it.
