If you play with fire, you’re sure to get burned.

The Powers that rule Morningstar believe death is a game, and my siblings and I are the unwilling players.

The only way to be free is it to destroy the ascension contracts.

So, I’m headed into the demon realm to convince the princes to do just that.

I won’t be going alone. I’ll have Artimus as a guide, a bodyguard provided by the Duke of Flame, and my siblings.

I know we can do this.

But there are unseen forces determined to stop us. Forces that want to tear us apart and take us down.

It’s time to show our enemies that we’re more than the sum of our parts.

It’s time to show them that together we’re a force to be reckoned with.

Nyx's journey continues in Demons Gambit, An Urban Fantasy Paranormal Romance filled with action, mystery, sizzle and multiple love interests for our lucky heroine.

Well, I went from meh to okay. I need more!

I love the found family and the connections being made or revisited. All the unknowns are presents. I can't wait to find and open them, but I'm also love the searching game for the presents! Less angst and more mystery, with morally grey love interests and a quest no one wanted to be on, but now they are on it, they need to finish as the importance and changes needed grow with every new truth and unveiled mystery! Okay, I'm rambling in expressions. That's how good this book is.

I am reading this as an audiobook, so sadly, I'm now stuck as book 3 onwards are not out in audio. I know i could just read it, but I'm committed to the narrators and how they have brought the book to life.

The book is in multiple POVs. There's smex, spice, and smut. There's loss and triggers, including forced actions, sexual assault, the suggestions of assault and more.

There's also Chase who I know is something big... maybe someone big!! And so many interests with insta lust developing into more, and forbidden romance still out of reach.

The ending! Oh, that ending! What a cliffhanger and what a Oh s£@t, didn't see that coming moment.

Another action-packed installent of Nxy's journey.

Think the best bit about this series are the siblings. The way their bond has formed and grown has been really lovely to watch.

Nxy is a great character and I like how she's a bit more blood thirsty than some of Debbie's other characters, in that she less conflicted when she does what needs to be done.

My only issue with this series in the RH aspect. Now, this is probably due to the fact that I don't really read the genre much anymore, but when I do I prefer the Harem to be a group of close knit guys who are all together already. The trouble with the heroine forming lots of multiple individual potential relationships is the interaction with them, and therefore the relationships themselves, just don't feel as interesting to me. But the variety of the relationship are forming nicely and I liked son epotwntial foreshadowing dropped in regarding where Nyx's storyline is going.

If you like UF/RH then I definitely recommend this.

Not every book is for everyone. I read quite a lot of books a year and some books fit my reading style a little better than others. Debbie Cassidy and I are not a complete match. Her stories are usually action packed, with a lot of danger, loads of characters and quite a lot going on. And although a lot of emotional things are happening, she usually takes less time to dive into those emotions. And yet I love every arc that comes my way.

Just like the previous book in this series, this book is filled with demons, nightmares, monsters, dangers, intrige and people fighting for what they thing is right. I have to admit that therefore it sometimes feels like the book misses focus or a clear target to work towards, but it's also a lot of fun. As a reader you get absolutely no time to grow bored. You barely get time to put the book away, since there is always something going on.

I quite like how we see a lot of different courts and realms in this book and how complicated the world is slowly becoming. At times it's a little hard to keep track of who's on which side, but watching all the different characters campaign for their own agenda and endgame is absolutely and totally worth it! And I think the slightly chaotic and unfocussed storyline kinda fit the world this book is taking place in. Things simply don't always make sense and don't always happen for a reason.

Our heroine is slowly figuring that out too. It still feels like she has absolutely no idea what she's doing most of the time. She's simply following her heart and her sense of justice and she goes from there. And with her fighting spirit that means she ends up in trouble just as often. However, the more I see her, the more I can imagine her on that throne. She is strong enough to do it and she most of all has the right attitude and values to do it.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Another awesome installment of Nyx’s story

I read this relatively quickly, Im really enjoying Nyx’s story and how she’s bringing together her siblings. I like her open honesty and how she likes to problem solve with her family. I even like her holding the potential guys back at arms length due to her heart having been hurt. I am super curious where this all is going I can tell there are bits and crumbs to follow but I’ve yet to piece together what I think is going to happen.

The ending though was crazy and yet I also had a hunch something like that would happen I was still blindsided by it. I can’t wait for the next one to see what happens and to see what happens with the efreet sponsor and who is probably someone important to her, finds out what happens to her.

I think Artemus is the one of the guys the frustrates me the most. But I think he’s supposed to be but I dislike having him in bed with OW especially since she’s a shrew lol. I just don’t like her and find her suspicious too.

But overall I enjoyed this one.

This one has a lot more spice that the first and you get to see the relationship better her and Ignatius start to really develop. You also get to see more of her and Artimus.
The sibling bond is now totally bonded. They all love eachother and the spot for the throne seems way less important.
The ending reminded me of Return to Oz when Dorothy had to choose green objects to bring back her friends who had been turned into those objects.

Cassidy has a way of crafting stories that use enough threads to sew a life quilt, and this epic is no different. However, family features more strongly in this story than in many of her other ones, though that theme is cropping up more frequently. It's fascinating when you follow an author's works and can actually track the progression of their talent - and what is important to them as they use words to create worlds we can all get lost in.

Nyx is a fantastic character, though possibly a bit stumble-prone. The guys are intriguing and swoon-worthy (most), and the growing relationship she is establishing with her siblings is EVERYTHING. I can't wait to see where this goes next, especially after THAT cliffhanger.

OMG I am loving this world and Nyx!!! The way she is trying to protect her family even though one of them have been quiety murdering other competitors for a while now - Nyx show so much compassion in looking behing the act and finding the truth to these deeds and who is ultimately responsible.
Such a good storey full of action and intrigue with so many plot twists that you just cant anticipate what this storey will throw at you next.
Add to that her developing relationships with Ignatius & Sev who give us some seriose sizzle and steam plus the hints of deliouse things to come with Arti - Still waiting for Sin to come back into the picture and also the will they wont they with Loke adds so much anticipation for the next books

This book has to have the worst "OMG, no she didn't" cliffhanger ever! The book was amazing so that knife in the heart cliffy was easier to take. I also liked getting to know more about the guys she's crushing on except Sin still remains a mystery. I hope he makes an appearance in this next book, I miss him!
I really love the bond between the siblings and the lengths they are willing to go to protect eachother. It's this that makes the series extra awesome in my humble opinion. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

This series has me so invested. I absolutely love this world.

Nyx and her siblings have been through so much, after the loss of their brother in the first game they need to ban together even stronger to get through these trials for the Satan seat. Little do they know there is more against than than they ever imagined.

Nyx and her siblings are put to the test as they try to get some answers and changes to the trials.

I seriously love Nyx, she's so strong but so caring and knows how to make decisions without making them out of pure emotion.

This book was way too inconsistent for me.

Then there's the POV issue. The FMC narration is written in past tense, but everyone else's POV is written in present tense. The effect is jarring, and it kept taking me out of the story. I don't understand the choice, because it makes the book feel poorly edited.

Book two and it’s fantastic! Drawn back into this incredible world we join Nyx and her siblings as they journey to the demon realm to destroy the ascension contracts placed on them. The storyline is so so good, it’s intriguing, it’s intense and it will have you hanging onto every printed word. Nyx is such an awesome character, totally kicks ass and asks questions later kind of girl and I am loving her new formed relationships not just family but romantic wise also. Fast paced, action packed and filled with steam, mystery and suspense this is one hell of a read and a fantastic addition to this urban fantasy series.

Such a great series

Debbie Cassidy's books can never disappoint. Demon Gambit starts right where book 1 left off. Nyx and her siblings need to work together to survive the trials for the throne, but it's not an easy feat. It ends with a brutal cliffhanger and I can't wait for the next book to be released!

Debbie has done it again.

I do not know anymore which series is my favorite from Debbie, because when I do find one, bam she comes out with another one.

Of course this is book 2 in the Demons of Morningstar. I would highly recommend reading this series in order, no skipsies!

As usual the female lead is a strong bad a&& chick that can take care of herself, but is also smart about it.

There is the usual action packed storyline with a touch of romance.

Nyx is awesome, and I really do have a girl crush. It is a thing. Her men are swoon worthy, and her siblings are a hoot.

Overall, a great addition to this series, and really a must read.

This author always creates such interesting worlds, and this one is no exception. Nix is such a great character, and I absolutely love the relationship between all the siblings. I love when a group of people work with each other as opposed to working against each other. Add to that the intriguing side characters, the engaging plot, and all the action (of both kinds), and this is a book in the series that can’t be missed. I am always happy to read a book by this author, and I can’t wait for the next in this series to see what will happen. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Omg the more I read this series, the more I wanna read. This was the perfect book to get me out of my slump. Literally amazing. I've already read the first 2 books in under a day and damn do I want to read more.
The only reason u stopped was to write this review with it fresh in my mind.

So nyx definitely is not a nephillim. At least not a weak one cuz that ending???? Also I thought dhuma was dead? That he died with soreena? Apparently not.
Also fallen are bitches. And abyssbloods rock.
Also still am unsure on what an efreet is. And zepar!!! Baby do something. You're like absent in most of the book. Please let there be more of him in the future.
Also, Artimus, just fuck her already. I also think Sin is a fallen. At least a child. And I want him to be part of the Harem. Yeah the siblings are getting better and better and I realised I've used way too much Also in this review. But yeah, imma go read the next book now.

At the end of Demon Throne, Nyx, and her siblings learn that only one of them will make it out of these trials alive. There are contracts signed by the original fallen to make sure that only one Satan’s spawns will take the throne. This is to prevent a possible assassination from a sibling wanting the power. Charod was the first victim of these contracts. The group survived the first trial by working together, and he still lost his life. They had to watch as one of their own died because the contracts required it. They all lost a sibling, but Mallini took it the hardest. She lost her twin, the other half of her soul, and now she’s broken. On top of the loss, Nyx found herself overhearing a conversation in which Veena admitted to killing the other spawns. She didn’t want to, but someone was forcing her to do it. It was quite the revelation, and Nyx could only think about how to save her sister. She wants to save all of her siblings, but can she?
Demon Gambit picks up with Nyx and her siblings not wanting to lose each other. They decide to petition to abolish the contracts that require all the losers to die. It’s time to meet Ramiel, Levistus, and Merihem for themselves and plead their case. Unfortunately, upon arrival, they find that something is off in Merihem’s court. There is a constant feeling of being watched and something is off about Merihem’s behavior. Will Nyx and her siblings figure it out, or will the contracts stay in place and they lose each other one by one?
I am hooked on these books. They are extremely well-edited and a joy to read. I’ve already started the next book because the ending of this one just wouldn’t permit me to wait. I am so thankful that all of the books are available to read and I won’t have to wait for a new one to be released. Nyx’s character handles things so well throughout and it’s great to see her try to keep her new family together.
This series is a fantasy romance. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys slow-burn romance and fantasy worlds. There are multiple worlds within one, and each is unique. Different beings come from separate realms.

I'm critiquing this book a bit more rigorously than usual because I was really taken with the first book in the series, and unfortunately, the second one didn't quite measure up. While there's never a dull moment thanks to the captivating writing and intricate characters, it felt like the story didn't truly progress until maybe the last 20%. By the time I was over 60% through, I found myself wondering what had actually happened so far. Sure, there were some spicy scenes and 'dates/meetings,' but beyond that? People met, talked, got hot, and that seemed to be the extent of it. However, towards the end, the pace picks up, and with a change in setting, things start moving forward again.

My second major critique revolves around the dynamics between the characters. I'm not referring to the familial interactions, which I genuinely enjoy; it's refreshing to see them bond instead of succumbing to the narrative of everyone being at odds with each other. What's challenging for me is the dynamic between Nyx and the men she's interested in. She always seems to be in a state of arousal and attraction towards someone, which is fine by me, but I can't shake the feeling that there should be different levels of intimacy. I'm left unsure whether she's merely flirting or seeking something deeper. The relationships don't seem to evolve—they rarely find common ground, share histories, or reveal secrets. As a result, they feel somewhat superficial.

This book feels like a transitional phase, and I'm eager to see where the series goes next.

Gripping read

Sibling rivalry leads to found family during trails for the throne.
Nyx and her siblings face off the Princes to change the rules of the game they all are forced to take part in. However, a deeper conspiracy is unravelling. Too many secrets, a history altered, and too many seeking power and vengeance have rigged the game. A game Nyx and the others are trying to stay alive in.
Although the intensity and suspense have increased from book 1, the excitement and sass have stayed on point, making Demon Gambit a gripping read. It is a story that keeps you reading into the early morning hours with zero regret. Characters are entertaining and endearing. Unputdownable and unpredictable. And I am off to read book 3.
Trope:
Found family. Survival. Trials. Slow burn. Touch her you ☠️. Demon. Fallen. World building.

Quotes
“It’s complicated… this desire to protect you.” Shadows filled his eyes. “Primal and primitive almost as if it’s sewn into the fabric of my being.”

“Soon, Qalbi,” Ignatius said. I turned to him. “What does that me—” He dipped his head and claimed my lips, cutting off my words, my thoughts, my very breath. My heart lurched and I reached for him with my free hand, ready to fall into the kiss. But the world shattered, taking me with it. Taking me away from him.

Ashes and dust

Nyx is being pulled apart all over again. She has to protect her siblings, both from outsiders and each other. She has to find out who killed Satan. She has to pass the trials because the cost is far too high. She has to petition the princes to change.or abolish the clauses. She has to meet with her protectors. She has to keep her nightmare alive. And now there's a new threat, a shadow threat. Because the sibling that was killing? They were possessed by something that is very old. And it has an agenda all its own.

Spoilers ahead.
Ok, definite warnings for a scene where Artimus is trying to stay in a position he feels keeps him informed and Nyx safe. And while he's thinking of her while he's doing it, what he's doing will probably offend readers as a perceived cheat. But he's not with Nyx. He loves her but he can't be with her without jeopardizing her safety. And she's not to a point yet where she can lower her walls. She's softening, but not ready yet. And with so many threats coming from everywhere she can't even begin to focus on anything but her family and the throne that will protect everyone. This one definitely takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster.

[3.5] ¿Qué ha sido ese final? 👁️👄👁️

Nyx me encanta.

What? Hold up!

What just happened? I swear Debbie Cassidy is the cliffhanger queen! I was NOT expecting that!

Anyways...

I am in love with book 2. Lots of things are developing and happening. We have our FMC, but let's not forget about our other supporting characters. EVERYONE is growing! I applaud Nyx and her ability to keep everyone together. She is learning. Sev?... mmhmm I approve. I need more of the other men, I'm dying to see how it all plays out. There is so much tension between our FMC and the possible guys, I think it is driving me crazy!

Seriously, trying not give any spoilers in the review is tough! So much happens. The secrets that are revealed... who was the lady at the market? What happened at the end? I need answers!!!! This book is riddled with clues as for what is to come. We see things that aren't making sense, but maybe in a way they are. I'm full of questions and need the answers desperately. I am in LOVE with this story line!!! I cannot wait for more!

This series was highly recommended by a book influencer that I follow and being a RH paranormal romance I had to dive straight in.
I really enjoyed this series with it's vivid world building, engaging characters, found family, various paranormal 'species', banter, romance and spice. There were a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming which is always great. The FMC was strong and feisty, and I loved the way she brought her family together with the varying personalities. The MMCs were charismatic, engaging and sexy. There were a couple of things that bugged me though... I wish there had been more romance (and spice), it seemed that area suffered to fit in all the plot points and action. To me it seemed like most of the romance was with one MMC in particular, and yet another MMC was left in the 'wings' for ages. I would have loved if they were together as a group earlier with more romance peppered throughout t he story. Overall, however, I did really enjoy this series and will be checking out more books by this author.

Just another day in the life, finding out your sister is a murderer and trying to save the rest of your siblings from certain death.

The second installment in the Demons of Morningstar has Nyx having to deal with Veena being the spawn murderer and then trying to get princes to keep her remaining siblings from being executed. As we read along this is the least of her worries. We get more developing between Nyx and our sexy efreet Ignatius. We only get a quick peek at Zepar with promises of steam in the future. Once Nyx goes to petitions the princes, she realizes this is a bad mistake. I can’t wait for book 3 as we are left on a cliffhanger yet again. Nyx still rocks the badass FMC role and I love how the relationship between all the siblings only gets stronger. As we get foreshadowing about bigger roles for Nyx in the future, I can’t help but hope that we don’t lose any more siblings as I’m getting very attached to all the characters.
