In Ephesians 4, Paul's vision of the church is where every single member “speaks the truth in love”. However for many, our Sunday conversations rarely get past the weather, sport or what we did yesterday. And though there's nothing wrong with this, it's a bit of a pity. Especially when we are allowed—in fact, we're commanded—to speak God's life-transforming word and thereby encourage each other. So what is ‘encouragement’ exactly? And how does it work? In How Words Change Lives, join Gordon Cheng as he explains what encouragement is and how all of us can make one simple and foundational contribution to church life by encouraging others. This easy-to-read book is sprinkled with humour, insight and practical wisdom. This book is part of Matthias Media's Guidebooks for Life series. Like other titles in the series, it covers an important issue of the Christian life in an accessible and straightforward way.
Discusses the biblical way to encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ and gives very practical example. I really enjoyed this book and was shaped by it. It has motivated me to make a practice of truly encouraging those around me
It’s a fair reminder, as it reiterates points that we already know. Besides that, I find the author’s way of expression opinionated to the point of annoyance at times.
This is my second book from the "Guideposts for Life" series. Quoting the author, "Christian encouragement is speaking the truth in love, with the aim of building Christians up in Christ-likeness, as we wait for the day of judgment. Christian encouragement will likewise involve speaking the truth in love to unbelievers, thus encouraging them to put their trust in Christ for forgiveness and salvation." God's Word changes people and encouraging words should be central in our church life. I appreciated Gordon Cheng's sense of humor and insight as he encouraged all believers to get involved in encouraging others. This would make a good small group study.
