The Astronaut's Wife: How Launching My Husband Into Outer Space Changed the Way I Love On Earth

Rate this book
A true story about making the most of your one incredible life.
Stacey Morgan kissed her husband goodbye before he donned his space suit on July 20, 2019, and headed to his waiting Soyuz rocket. With an overwhelming mix of pride, excitement, and terror, she and her children held hands and watched the rocket ignite and lift off for a nine-month mission aboard the International Space Station.

This is the story of the astronaut’s wife―a journey full of unexpected twists and turns. While the love of her life orbited the Earth, Stacey was about to embark on a knock-your-socks-off adventure right here at home. This season would be different from any Stacey had experienced before. The risks were greater, the loneliness was deeper, and the stress was more intense. Filled with as many unique challenges as surreal opportunities, this deeply meaningful season taught her rich lessons about
preparing for any mission or adventure life throws at you
rediscovering your fun side when you’ve been trapped in survival mode too long
trusting God when you feel weak or alone
choosing hope in the face of fear and uncertainty
Containing behind-the-scenes glimpses into a side of space flight that most of us will never experience, The Astronaut’s Wife is a funny, poignant, and meaningful exploration of living life to the fullest―no matter where you roam.

A down to earth look at traveling to space. Highs and lows exist simultaneously, and if we try and force our experiences into being only one or the other, we miss out on much of what God is doing everyday.

I have a newfound respect for military spouses and in this case, astronaut spouses.
I enjoyed the peek into all that involved before, during and after such a unique job.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. She is a good narrator, and talked about aspects of being a military/astronaut's wife I never would have considered. She makes me want to keep trying different things and knowing you can get through a wall. I didn't love the religion quotes but at least she didn't seem to be trying to convert people.

This was an enjoyable read, for sure. Its always refreshing to hear the author narrating their own book, and Stacey did a great job. Hearing the behind the scenes experiences of an astronaut through the spouse was inherently an incredibly interesting theme. Experiencing that insane event during Covid and weaving in the authors Faith in God made this book even more complex.
There was definitely a lull in the middle that I had to push through to get to the finish line, but like the author's marathon race, it was worth it. I darn near cried several times throughout the read because I was so touched. The author seems so genuine, and reminds me of the toughness and commitment of my wife, that I couldn't help but feel completely connected to her and her story.

The Astronaut's Wife: How Launching My Husband Into Outer Space Changed the Way I Live on Earth is a great read. Stacey Morgan tells the story of her husband's mission on the International Space Station and how it impacted their lives. I enjoyed all aspects of the story ... the descriptions about the space mission were super interesting, but the heart of the story is the descriptions of the ways in which the mission impacted the author and her family. She spoke throughout the book about how her Christian faith and the support of friends and family helped her through all aspects of living through the mission as well as the Pandemic. It is an inspirational read!

Solid 3.5

Interesting book, I learned a lot about NASA and military life. But it wasn’t quite as profound as I was expecting.

Appreciated the author’s vulnerability and ability to relate her own life/life lessons to “normal people”

3.5 - Hoopla bonus borrow - I never thought about what the wife or kids of an astronaut go thru while they are in space. This was very interesting especially since his landing back on earth fell during Covid times.
