When Luke Hampton died in a car accident on his way to Junior Prom, he left a list of ten things unfinished. Twenty-five years later, Reese Holland is struggling through her senior year. She finds Luke in her bathroom one morning and he begs her for help with completing his final to-do list so he can move on. The two strike up an unlikely friendship, though Reese has no idea how to have a ghostly BFF. With just six weeks before the anniversary of his death, only time will tell if they’ll be able to cross off Luke’s final tasks, allowing him to cross over, or if he’ll be stuck in the in-between forever.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Luke Hampton's Final To-Do List to read well before its publication date, and I'm just so happy to have experienced this story. Emotional in some moments, entertaining in others, and enjoyable all throughout. I feel there was a great balance struck between heavier themes of death and the regrets of missed opportunities with levity and humor in all the right places to keep it more of a lighthearted ride. Glad to add this to my bookshelf and will look forward to reaching for it again in the future!
This was a great book. Cute story. Reminded me of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot in some ways. I found myself very invested in the characters and the overall story.
A lot of times I’m in need of a fun, happy read, and Rachael Baker’s debut novel is just that.
“Luke Hampton’s Final To-Do List” has made me want to write an official bucket list, and it also made me flash back to my own high school days. I didn’t make fun a priority, and I didn’t participate in much, and boy, I feel some regret for that after reading this book because it shows how enjoyable those experiences can be.
I’m a character driven reader. The best of plots can be ruined by characters, especially first-person narrators, who are poorly written or unlikeable. This was not an issue here. I liked Reese and Luke, and thought their interactions were entertaining and sweet, especially their first meeting.
It was a quick, sweet, humorous read that I enjoyed!
This book was a great read for me for so many reasons. As someone who's been in a reading slump for a while, the writing was clear and easily imaginable without ever being plain! So much of it brought me back to all the good parts of being a teenager with my best friends and I loved watching the clever ways Reese, our main character, helped navigate Luke's to-do list!
If you like light-hearted contemporary YA books, please get this book asap! You won't regret it!
Omg beautiful 😍 I loved this. Luke died in a car crash only to come back to do the things he didn't do before he passed away. His friendship with the girl really enchanted me.
