Leo Douglas Harms: The Grim
An impenetrable wall of smoke and flames devoured the family I gave up everything for and I took my vengeance the only way I knew how—by becoming the very thing I ran away from. But little did I know I would inherit more than I bargained for.
Decades later and I’m burnt out, running on fumes to survive in a life I never wanted.
Then I met him. A light in the abyss.
Jaxon was beautiful—inside and out—and I found myself captivated by him in a way I had never felt. Knowing him, touching him, obliterated my soul. But in doing so, he stole something from me that was never mine to give. I tried… but my guilt was too much for even him to overshadow.
It will always be her. Them. It can’t not be.

Jaxon Ashtor Fitz: His Light
I used to be an honest, selfless man. The happy, go-lucky, all around good guy, but when Leo showed up at my tattoo shop, I felt every single one of my morals escape between my lips with a breathless ‘hello.’
His entire being exuded darkness; the relentless torture of his soul lingering just underneath the surface.
I was drawn to it, and him, like a moth to a flame. And when the secrets and lies started to build into a precarious fortress with me locked inside, I felt myself start to change.
His pain became mine, eroding me down until all that remained was the tiniest remnants of who I used to be. All because I fell in love with someone who could never love me back. Who refused. Who would never. Choose. Me.

"Just Leo and Jaxon. Death and paradise. Except with him, I’m not death. I’m just me. Someone I thought didn’t exist anymore. Not since them."

Quiet is the Night is the story of two very different men, but both carry pain, loss and trauma with them. We have Leo, who lost his wife and son despite cutting ties with his underworld-linked family as a very young man. Twenty years later, he still carries the scars of that fiery night as he now leads the criminal syndicate he inherited. He wants to still hold on to normalcy and some light, so he ends up straddling two different worlds. Worlds that he knows that if they were to collide, would lead to death and destruction once more.

Jaxon is young and bright but, at the same time, has suffered a great deal of abuse and trauma at the hands of his bigoted family. He has finally escaped his small town with his close friend and now works as a tattoo artist. When Leo walks into his parlour, he knows that this large dangerous man will own his heart. Their attraction to one another is fast and intense.

These two men find solace and healing in one another, particularly Leo. He knows he will bring nothing but darkness and trouble to Jaxon, but he can't let him go. Letting him go means he will die.

“I’ll kill you if you stay, and you’ll kill me if you leave."

I loved the codependency and the unhealthy attachment these two had with one another. Leo is unlikable at times; yes, he's hurt and carries twenty years' worth of grief and guilt with him and being part of the dark world he is from makes things worse - but communicating with Jaxon would have made things so easy. However, this shows he is flawed, and I enjoyed seeing his character grow throughout the story. I loved Jaxon, honestly, he is a saint, understanding and willing to take on the pain that Leo carries while being the light to his darkness.

I also enjoyed the bi-awakening of Leo. He's never been in a relationship since his wife and son were taken from him that night, but when he gives into his attraction to Jaxon….*chef kiss* The sex between them was scorching hot, emotional and well-written. I always enjoy a bit of subversion, and Marie Ann gave us that. Leo is this huge alpha man who wants to be taken care of. He wants to submit and let Jaxon care and dominate him.

I know the moment someone were to take a look at us together in any capacity, they would think I’d be the one fucking Jaxon. Because I’m bigger. More alpha. And he’s smaller. But since the moment he touched me, no thought other than him having me never crossed my mind. And it feels right being taken by him, being filled. Consumed.

I swallow, my protest lost somewhere in my throat. I don’t know how I feel about it. I like not being in control with Jaxon. The way he takes over is what I need, a reprieve from it all.

There is a lot of blood, violence and death needed in order for these two to reach their happy ever after, and once they do, it's well earned.

The grip Marie Ann's writing has on me. love how descriptive and immersive it is. Once I started Quiet is the Night, I could not put it down until the last page!

Overall I really enjoyed Quiet is the Night, and if you like Marie's stories, sunshine/grumpy, morally grey characters, unhealthy relationships, age gap, and bi-awakening I recommend it!

Please do check TWs as this story may not be for everyone.

*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.***

Quiet is the Night Now is a dark and haunting story that shows how love and connection bring our main character back from his self-imposed torment. Leo is a tragic character who suffered a tremendous loss early in his life and due to that experience, his pain cannot be remedied. Jaxon is a beacon of endless hope and optimism who instantly bewitches Leo out of his brutal life.

What I enjoyed immensely is how when Leo and Jaxon are together they are able to heal and find some semblance of peace from their experiences. Both are far from perfect, but with their instantaneous connection, that morphs into possessiveness and co-dependency that offer each other an opportunity to heal and build something together.

Another winning aspect of this story is how the author is not afraid of making her characters flawed, unlikeable, and unhealthy at times. Leo has intense control and possessive qualities that most would find overbearing, but with Jaxon, his intense character traits are exactly what he needs and together they make for a great balance. I love how messy this love story is, which makes for a highly addictive story that I could not put down as I was anxiously anticipating what would come next.

This is a fantastic story that has so much heart while these two characters overcome so much pain and darkness. I loved getting to read their story and look forward to what comes next.

I’m honestly not sure how I ended up here, dnf’ing this. I went in a few days ago and it was deliciously dark and intense. I loved it. Add two heavily tatted guys and I was a happy girl. But now, a few days later, I can’t seem to find my way back into it. I’m annoyed with it and feel disconnected to the characters. There’s a possibility that it’s me and not the book but their dynamic suddenly felt off to me.

And also… no condoms, no talk regarding safe sex. You know already how big of a turn-off this is for me so… *shrug

Alexa, "play Savin’ Me“ by Nickelback

The author seems to really like Nickelback considering how many times their music is playing in the book. But so do I. *lolll

Leo leads a crime syndicate and lost his whole world almost two decades ago. His life after turns dark, lonely and… quiet. Until there is suddenly light in unexpected form. In form of a young tattoo artist who seem to be able to live a fulfilled and happy life despite being through hell in his past as well.

“You’re the only one who can make it go away.”

“I need you,” I rasp, throat raw. It’s so quiet around us. But with Jaxon, the quiet never hurts.
Fuck. Please have me, Jaxon.

… to at least say something about the story itself.

I just love Marie Anne and her writing style. She's one of my go to authors when I feel like having my still beating heart ripped out and served on a silver platter. Leo and Jax's story lived up to all my expectations. Leo Douglas Harms: The Grim, wasted no time clawing his way to said organ. Quiet Is The Night Now is a heartbreaking book, there's so much regret and sorrow. That is until Jaxon Ashtor Fitz, Leo's light walked into the equation, chasing away the monsters that lurked in the dark waiting to consume Leo. Leo had been handed a life he'd never asked for and had paid the ultimate price for trying to run from a situation there was no way out.

These two men had all the odds stacked against them. It was a love that seemed destined to fail, but also was a love that neither could live without. This was a slow burn, and I mean slow lol (not a criticism) I love slow burns. The wait is all the more satisfying when they finally get freaky!

This was a stunning age-gap, Bi-awakening crime syndicate romance and I highly recommend QITNN for any emotional rollercoaster lovers seeking their next read.

This was a big book! It’s a very slow burn, and I’m very impatient!!! But the story is laying the foundations for the emotional journey that you go on with these men.

I love Leo so much, he’s tormented by past trauma and is own mind, living a life he never wanted and hating most parts of it. He was going through the motions of life, doing as he’s told even though he was the boss, until HIM.

HE changed things, things that lay dormant for over 20 years, he made Leo feel, he made him change the rules, he become his everything.

Jaxon part owns the local tattoo shop, he’s been through a lot in his life with his best friend, his child hood was bad, but somehow he’s still a happy go lucky guy, a ray of sunshine on a dark day. He does a favour for a client which has him tattooing a broody beefcake of a guy who somehow becomes an all consuming part of his life.

This a story of healing, dealing with raw emotions, coming to terms with loss and the life that never was. These two become co dependant and not always in a good way, but the love and deep connections they made is enough to keep them finding their way back to each other.

This spice in this book was slow building and slow paced, but 100% on point, it was intense and laced with so much emotion that I was crying at one point.

I also loved the lack of labels, we knew that it was a bi awakening but it wasn’t really a big issue, but was discussed in an emotional way “it’s just us”

I say Marie Is my Queen of Darkness and we do get some of that in this book but I think she’s now my Queen of All Consuming Emotions!!

As my second read from Marie Ann, I would first like to say:

The fact is that she is so completely authentic to herself and I can not sing enough praise for her writing. Writing in her voice, her colors, her style, it's just my favorite thing when I pick up a book from a loved Author, and can see them shining through🥰.

This book is labeled as a standalone, yet I found myself feeling that the progression of the relationship seemed to happen a tad too quickly. It was delicious, don't get me wrong. But, heading into this book with only having read Inevitable Destruction; I did feel like maybe I was missing some other pieces in order to understand how the MC's could have gotten as comfortable as they did, as quickly as they had.

But, that's also somewhat of a positive for me. I felt challenged to try and place myself in the characters' shoes and really understand how they were able to make those decisions...that seemed soon for me. I will probably be chewing on this book for a few days. It stirs up conversations in my head with myself, on trying to pull out scenes and further dissect them.

Aside from the fast pacing of the relationship, I have to say... Marie writes TOP TIER MM Spice, whew!!!

All of those scenes were undeniably scorching, I needed a tall glass of ice water.

This story was nothing short of sweet, dark, spicy, and in a lot of ways I felt it was uplifting. The message that I took away, is that life doesn't always go in the path you thought was meant for you. Sometimes, you are going to go years without knowing what it is that you need. And despite how you think you should be, you need to follow your heart/gut/instincts and live your life the way you want to. I personally would probably recommend this book to be read in the publishing order, but I still loved this story. And there may be audiences that the pacing is going to absolutely hit the spot. I just personally needed a little more background info. Regardless though, I loved Jaxon and Leo. They were so freaking adorable and the love was felt so strongly through the pages🖤🖤🖤!

Overall Opinion
I have never felt more emotionally empty after reading a book as I did with this one. It was very emotion driven and the author did a fantastic job at making me feel absolutely everything and incapable of putting my feelings into words. It was my first book by Marie Ann and I can guarantee it will not be my last! She has the most magical way with words, it felt like she was drawing my soul into her book and it hurt my heart a wee bit.

It was a dark and unique story, not like anything I've read before, and all I can really emphasis is WOW! Leo is a member of a crime group, clouded by grief and feeling incapable of love, and Jaxson is a tattoo artist, a beautiful soul of happiness and full of love to give. They could not be more different, one grumpy one sunshine, but they balance each other perfectly.

It is a slow burn, the tension building immensely, but oh when the spark ignites, it burns hard and bright! These two have to have some of the hottest scenes I have read and boy did I burn up reading them! I loved every single second of this book, I think it would probably have to be my favourite book of all time, and I would sell my soul to reread this again for the first time.

Toxic, codependent, little miscommunication, high angst, age gap, crime syndicate, augh this book was so good.

Honestly truly the one thing I loved about this book was the writing style is was absolutely amazing, it was a beautiful toxic romance on finding love after grief. Going from mourning your lost family to find a new one completely.

Leo was a bad ass but hes a golden retriever at heart and deserves all the love jaxon gave. I absolutely adored their relationship regardless of the multiple hurdles they had to endure!

I need to know what happened to uncle blaine 😩

Truly a great story, definitely hope they find their way to some babies because it seemed like jaxon is ready to be someone daddy! I also feel like it would be a great way for leo to heal some more!

This book was everything I never knew I needed and I'm so mad I waited so long to read it!!!

-Age Gap
-Hurt/Comfort
-Friends to Lovers
-Bi Awakening
-Possessive MCs
-Slow Burn
-Love After Loss

Leo and Jax are both so broken in their own ways but together they find the peace they both crave. Once I started this book I was immediately hooked! I couldn't stop and basically read the entire thing in one sitting. The hurt comfort was BLEEEEEDING from the pages and I absolutely devoured it. The possessiveness in this one also gave me absolute life. I went into this pretty much blind and just handed Marie my trust and she didn't do me wrong!

You like hurt/comfort? READ THIS BOOK.

ALSO. AMOS. I NEED THAT BOOK IMMEDIATELY!

I adored this so much, it's so raw and emotional as always with Marie Ann. Her writing is moving.

Leo and Jaxon man 🥺 such flawed, complicated and deeply troubled characters and their journey was a rollercoaster. Jaxon is up there with one of my favourite characters I've ever read, what a sweet angel he is ❤️

Dark romance is one of my absolute favourite genres to read & Marie Ann does it so WELL.

The soul knows when it’s met its mate. The soul sees no gender. It sees love in its purest form.

Leo lost everything when he was 18. It hardened him to the outside world. He hated the life he was born into but he also felt an obligation to his family. At 37 after not touching another person for 20 years he walks into a tattoo shop and when his eyes land on Jaxson all his brain tells him is “mine”.

Jaxson’s been through some shit in his life but he didn’t let it affect his spirit. He was happy and positive, always willing to help others. Having been through horrible things in the past he wasn’t naive to the harsh realities of the real world. More like he chose to view the world as a cup half full instead of half empty. But when the cup slipped from his hands and the water spilled everywhere, Jaxson realized what he was missing his entire life.

This book had everything I love. Protective. INSTANT possessiveness. Mine mine mine. A subtle bi awakening which I wouldn’t even call it that because it was handled so beautifully.

Jaxson and Leo’s chemistry was palpable from the first time they stepped into a room together. Marie has a way of writing that sweeps you up and takes you on an incredible visual and lyrical journey. She uses words that make you stop and reread multiple times and every time you find a new meaning.

The books MCs have a beautifully nuanced dom/sub relationship. This is NOT a major plot point at all but it’s woven into the story perfectly and methodically. I can’t say more without spoiling it.

The sex was top tier. Primal and poignant. They were hungry for each other and touch was a love language they both spoke fluently.

I’ll never forget this book or MCs for multiple reasons. Mainly because Marie took the construct of a bigger, older, powerful straight man and showed us how many layers he could have. She also showed us the size of your body doesn’t define your roll in the bedroom. And for that I’m thankful.

When I tell you I have been waiting for this story since I read the Monsters in Us duet, I’m not lying. This story, these men, they have been a LONG time coming. I fucking applaud Marie for taking her time with this book; for going slow, following her gut with this one!

There are no words to describe all that are Leo and Jax; they’re the Grim and his Light. The symbolism in this book, the tension, the slow burn—it was all fucking phenomenal!! If you know me at all, slow burn is not my thing, but this, to me, was no ordinary slow burn—the sexual tension had me in a fucking chokehold!!

I’m not going to lie, I struggled a little with this book, but at the same time, I absolutely loved it. What a conundrum, right? I was so freaking happy to see Leo and Jax have their story told, but at the same time, (and this is probably a me thing) I felt like something was missing. I honestly could not tell you what, but for some reason I felt like I wanted more out of these two. At the same time—I felt like their struggle, hurt and love bled from these pages and had my heart gripped so tightly I thought it was going to burst. I truly love their relationship dynamic, Marie definitely surprised me with that one!!

There were some things in this book that got a bit repetitive and felt, not overused, but frequently used. It started to pull me away from what was happening across the pages because I was getting stuck on them and had me, at times, struggling to focus. That being said, these two WILL surprise you!! You are going to be shocked, and you WILL love them both so damn much!

I truly do not want to say much because there is a LOT that happens for Leo and Jax to get to their happy ending, but just know, it hurts. You are going to hurt for them. You will laugh with them, cry for them, and by the end, you will be smiling with them!! The side characters in this book are phenomenal as well—not me hoping for Seb and Amos to be together….

I really love the love that Jax and Leo have for one another even though it is SO toxic! If you’re looking for a toxic love story, then look no further!

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦."

If you have read Monsters In Us series by this author, then you already know some lil snippets about our two main characters, Jaxon and Leo.

Leo, having suffered an immense loss, has kept himself locked away and unavailable for 20 years. Never wanting to let anyone in for worry that history will repeat itself. His one priority is his family-ran crime syndicate and that’s it.

Until he meets Jax. Happiness personified. The happy-go-lucky tattoo artist with a dark past but an optimistic outlook on life. I stg we need to protect Jax at all costs.

This book meant a lot to me. It addressed the meaning of love after loss which hits deep with me, and I’ll never forget that. It reminds me that I love imperfect romances more and more each day.

This story depicts a potentially toxic pairing but an inevitable one as we witness what it means to love someone’s light while healing from your own darkness.

Oh, the way my heart wept for these two men! Can I say this book ripped my heart out? No, not exactly but it sure did keep it just a skipped beat away from failing me several times. The slow burn that builds between these two just simmers right below the surface waiting for that moment when things line up just right and the reader doesn’t fully expect it to ignite. Then it does and it’s just so damn beautiful. 😭

So the plot follows our “big guy” 😌 Leo from his late teens to almost his 40s. You’ve got so pretty good time jumps in the beginning so don’t stress that it's all going to be dragged out because that’s not what this is. You need to see and experience Leo’s past to understand who he is in the future. And see it I did. Right to my box of tissues because wow I was not expecting to get punched in the feels so fast! This poor guy… he’s hurting so bad and for so long you can’t help but want the world for him.

Once we catch up to the present day we find our one-of-a-kind and completely charming Jaxon. 🥰 Jaxon and his best friend Amos own Vice Tattoo and live together in the small apartment above it. Little did he know that a slightly more than unhinged customer and friend would introduce him to the person who would turn his world upside down. All of the trauma he’s gone through in his 22 years of life didn’t break him. But this could be the one thing that might. Because once Leo walks in nothing about either of their lives will ever be the same.

The dynamic between these two is so fun to read and here’s why. You have this tall, burly, tattooed, and dangerous man that doesn’t open up to anyone. He’s completely shut off from the world even those closest to him. Then you have the laid-back ball of sunshine covered in sporadic ink, piercings, bright white hair, and a heart that is literally made of gold. And they are so drawn to each other the tension is like a rubber band about to snap. Jax is openly gay while Leo is warring with himself on his new attraction and feelings for another man. So in many ways, Jax takes the lead and dominates the relationship as it grows. When I say I don’t think I could have melted more anytime Jax would open his arms and be all c’mere big guy. And then all the snuggles… 🥹🥹🥹 Ugh! My heart!! 😩 They just have this adorable playful and flirty way about them that manages to put a huge smile on your face in between all the emotional bits.

Oh! And their taste in music is utter perfection let me just throw that out there right now. Finally… finally!! Nickelback has made it into the playlist and some of the scenes in the story and they aren’t being trash talked. 😂😂

This obviously trails over into the more intimate moments between them since Leo has zero experience in that department, well with men anyways. So with him being unsure of himself and craving to be able to just let go and not have to make any decisions of any kind for just a moment he gladly hands over the reins. He knows Jax is a safe place and that giving up that control will not be used against him. It really is the sweetest thing the way Jax takes care of Leo, especially when 9 times out of 10 it’s the bigger more masculine guy of the two that tends to take charge.

But regardless of how heavy the connection is between them, it’s just as complicated. Leo hides behind lies and darkness punishing himself for the part he’s played in the events of his past. He knows he should do the right thing and leave Jax alone because he can never love him the way he wants to be loved. The way he deserves to be loved. But he craves the light that Jax shines into his dim world and for that he wants to be selfish and take whatever Jax is willing to give for however long he will give it. But Jax can’t seem to push him away any more than he can keep himself from reaching out for him. Knowing that each time it chips away a little bit more of his soul and wondering how long it will be before he’s shattered into tiny shards from it.

I’m telling you this story and these characters will have you all in your feelings the entire book and loving every minute of it. Their story is toxic and intense. They have both been burned by life and both deserve all of the happiness love can bring them. And the way Marie takes that and weaves their story together in a way that is as messy as it is beautiful will have you wishing that you’d never reach their epilogue.
Another phenomenal book and so fantastically written there’s no way you won’t fall in love with it too.

**While this may not be the darkest content I’ve read from Marie it is still dark. Please check the TW at the back of the book before reading if you have any concerns regarding content.**

I really enjoyed this dark and gritty MM romance.

Leo and Jaxon met at Jaxon’s tattoo shop when he came in to get a new tattoo. The two had instant chemistry, but too much past trauma to work through before they could actually be together.

Jaxon was my favorite. Despite everything that he went through, he let himself be vulnerable but not walked all over. Leo was the dark to Jaxon’s light and his opposite in so many ways.

This was a bit of a slow burn, which made sense for the plot. However, the spicy scenes were hot once we got there. Also, there is just something about a big scary mafia guy submitting that really does it for me. It was really hot to see Jaxon take control of Leo.

I also really love this author’s writing style. The darkness and emotion were translated so naturally in her words. It was really beautiful to read. I highlighted soo much while reading.

Vin makes a few appearances in this book and it was fun to see Leo’s take on their story.

I’ll read anything this author writes, and am really looking forward to whatever she releases next.

I have always been very vocal about my love of books that make me cry and this one made me cry so much that I was considering buying a tissues factory just so I could get to the end of the book. This book just made me so emotional in the best of ways.

This book had so much good hurt comfort, super obsessive and codependent love and I adored every second of it. This just had a perfect romance and I was so invested in their story and seeing where they would go next.

This was my first Marie Ann book and I will definitely read more. I love dark romance when it is done well. The mark of good writing is when you are able to fall hard for characters even when they do very bad things. I love both Leo & Jaxon so much but man did Leo really get to me. He broke my heart and I wanted him to find his light the entire time. Enter Jax. These two had great chemistry. I also loved Amos, Seb, & Blaine. I would love to read more about all of them.

I would have liked a bit more grit but overall I really enjoyed my first venture into Marie Ann's world.

"I believe we have a variety of soulmates in our life, most of whom we consciously choose in a variety of ways. Forming friendships that then turn into deep-seated bonds. We seek out relationships, the thought of a forever partner already at the forefront of our mind. But then, there are the ones that come to you unexpectedly. A glimpse of a stranger, enrapturing you. A brief interaction, leaving you reeling for days as the mere thought of them burrows into you so deep, you can feel it in your bones, leaving you confused and muddled about their position in your life."

"He’s changed me in every single way a person can be changed—and for the better. Colors are brighter, sounds louder. Touches softer, gentler. The world I always knew as an endless array of grays has been washed in striking color since the moment I saw his sky-blue eyes, vivid and glistening with possibilities."

"Jaxon shed light to a whole other world I locked myself out of. One full of light, of peace. Comfort. Love. Love… It’s something I never thought I’d feel again. Something I kept at a distance, from everyone. From my fucking self. Because my self-hatred consumed every morsel of my existence. Then I met him…Jaxon. A light in the endless abyss I drowned myself in. It was then I fucking breathed, shuttering and trembling and gasping."

"Because he always is, with those beautifully long arms that gave me a glimpse into a paradise I never thought I could have. A love that rose from the ashes of my agony."

✨”You’re the Grim fucking Reaper, Leo. You didn’t just kill them; you stole their souls and sent them to the deepest pits of hell.”✨

QUIET IS THE NIGHT NOW
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This book was unputdownable!!! Is that even a word, I don’t care!!! I loved this so fucking much. This is a hurt/comfort, age gap, low key grumpy/sunshine, dark romance magnificence 🥹 leo & jax are absolutely everything & I would kill for their love. Leo is terrifying with a soft smooshy center, he’s been hurt & is terrified to even consider loving anyone again. Boy legit hasn’t kissed anyone in two decades, instead he focuses on his illegal job. Leo thinks he’s doesn’t deserve happiness & is literally just living each day waiting to die. That is until he meets our golden retriever angel baby, 💖Jaxon💖

✨”It’s so quiet around us. But with Jaxon, the quiet never hurts.”✨

UGH JAXON. He knows there’s no room in Leo’s heart for him, & it breaks his heart bc he falls for his tatted grump so quickly. Their spark is electrifying & totally absorbing. He knows he deserves more than what Leo can give him, but he’s willing to take any scraps, that’s how in love this guy is. The characters & romance are the best fucking part of this book. The only reason it’s not a 5⭐️ is bc I wanted more flashbacks to Leo’s trauma, I wanted to really push it home so it makes the loss even more brutal. Hi my name is Sam & I’m a masochist lol

Anyway, do yourself a favor & read this book. I adored it so much!!!

"𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘮 , 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵, 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴."

This book is packed with emotion. I'm talking SO MANY -  there was anger, pain, lust, regret, jealousy, hope, and love. And it was all so beautifully woven into a great, epic story.

After years of living in his own darkness - consumed by pain and loneliness, Leo meets Jaxon and knows right away that he is the light that's been missing. The way he feels around Jax is so unlike any way he's felt before. Jaxon is the light, his hope, someone he not only wants but that he needs.

"𝘑𝘢𝘹𝘰𝘯’𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴. 𝘏𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘏𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦, 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵."

Jaxon has had a hard life. But where the trauma he experienced could have crushed him, it hasn't. It made him determined to live his life his way, with a smile on his face.

Their connection is instant. And it's strong and possessive and filled with this all encompassing desire to be what the other needs. I adored them together. Their path to each other was not without even more hardships and pain but they worked hard for their HEA.

I thought this book was really, really brilliant.

I really liked this book. It went just as I expected but at the same time it was diferent. Leo was so broken, God that man, my heart ached for him, he wanted to love Jaxon so much but didn't know if he should. Being stuck in the last for almost 20 years can turn you into a completely diferent person. He deserved another chance at life and I 'm glad Jaxon showed him that moving forward it's ok. Jaxon was so bright, he radiated sunshine, I loved him, he was so pure and he loved Leo no matter what. Things got hard, he pulled awat for a while and then Leo showed he was worth it. Neither of them left again after that, they wanted and loved each other and wanted to make things work somehow. They each gave something to the other that was needed, that worked. I loved how their roles were "reversed", it was a very interesting dynamic and one rarely seen, I was glad we got it because it worked beautifully with their personalities. They shouldn't work at all but they did, they couldn't be more perfect for each other. Now, I'm just wanting patiently for Amos's and/or Seb's stories to happen ;)

Quiet is the Night Now

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙨. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙅𝙖𝙭𝙤𝙣, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙨.

Quiet is the Night Now is a dark slow-burn friends to lovers romance set in the same universe as the “Monsters In Us” Duet. This emotional story is filled with angst, heartbreaking moments as well as beautiful moments that will make you smile. Plus some hot spicy scenes that will leave you sweating.

The love Leo and Jaxon share is beautiful. Two men that are both broken, each with their own haunting traumatic experiences. But are able to heal, and overcome their past especially Leo. He opened up to Jaxon, letting himself heal from his experiences of loss and grief. Letting himself love again.

Marie Ann created a beautiful raw story that sucks you in from the beginning till the end. She creates characters that you can relate with and a plot that gives you all the feels. Her side characters bring so much joy and happiness to the story.

Such a powerful story! If you love M/M, grumpy/sunshine, age gaps and dark romances, I recommend it!

Quiet Is The Night Now is a dark and intense mm romance.
The opening of the book will explain immediately the title of the book and wow that was emotional and complete devastation. Poor Leo all he ever wanted was the quiet and to sleep and now all he has is the quiet. Its pretty emotional the first few pages and I can't even begin to imagine.
A life he's been born into and tried to leave and now to be back right in the centre, at the top. The Grim.
There's a lot of grief, grumpy/ sunshine, struggling emotionally, not thinking your worthy. Sometimes all you need is that one special person to get through everything.
The story takes it's time and has a lot of syndicate crimes/ violence.
This book brings out so many emotions but is so worth it.
Please check trigger warnings first, then dive right in. I can guarentee you won't be disappointed.
Can't wait for more from this incredibly talented author.

A great example of “your heart says yes but your head says no”…. tragic love between two men who carry a lot of hurt in completely different ways.

Leo and Jaxon were so great to read, purely from the perspective that they BROKE ME 💀 my GOD there were points that were so truly crushing that I had to pause and pray for my soul to return to my body.

There is some serious angst in this story, mostly stemming from Jaxon practically destroying himself trying to find a place in Leo’s heart. The push and pull of their story was absolutely the highlight for me; I shipped their relationship so hard despite at times knowing it was borderline toxic.

The intimacy/spice is what surprised me here. I loved the alternate approach to the whole top/bottom aspect - LOVE that it doesn’t matter what size you are, you can still take that 🍆 HOWEVER, there just wasn’t enough for me. With the angst and hurt so high, I was craving for a ridiculous payoff in the bedroom.

Overall, another smashing read from Marie. Still as wild as the other stories in this universe, it’s worth getting your soul crushed 💔

I recieved an ARC for this book and these are my honest opinions.

DNF @ page 76

I just..... don't get the point of this book. I truly cannot summarize the plot from what I've read. Why is there a time jump of 12 years in the first 4 chapters? Every chapter was like X amount of time later.

The amount of references in these 76 pages of "quietness" and "darkness found the light" had my eyes rolling. I also didn't care for all the tattoo talk. The dialogue was so forced.

I just don't think dark romance is for me. Not because I can't handle dark books (hello, my favourite author is Karin Slaughter) but I think dark romance authors try to write to be dark for no reason behind the darkness.

Sorry not sorry.

Great book 🖤🖤🖤

Dark, sweet, sexy. My first read by Marie Ann, I’m impressed and intrigued.

Jax was just the light that Leo needed in his life. Leo was so sad and lost in his despair for his family. The two were completely obsessed with each other, but in a way that makes you swoon and root for their HEA even more.

Leo’s world is dark. But Jax has lived his own hell, so them coming together made sense on an emotional level. Their chemistry was explosive, some seriously sexy scenes and love between them. Loved their journey!

In my DJ Khalid voice… ANOTHER ONEEEE!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
There is just something about a hurt/comfort romance that just does something for my tortured soul. 🥀
Two people with wildly dark pasts. Leo, the dark/broody head of a crime syndicate. Jaxon, a young, happy go lucky tattoo artist who loves to smile. Throw them together&you get the perfect concoction of toxic codependency. &We know that’s my favoriiiiite! 👏🏽 The amount of emotions that I felt while reading this… 🥹
&The way this love story blooms on the pages is just 🤌🏽 chef’s kiss y’all.
