The books of the Dragon Tails series have all been irresistible and Heart of Dragons was no exception!

Merlin was everything I love in a hero—loyal, devoted, honorable, sweet, deadly, and a little broken. Once, love made him do dangerous things. It made him sacrifice pieces of himself he didn't think he'd ever get back. It destroyed him, devasted him, left him bitter and alone.

Now he was human. He was awake. Aware. And he hated everything in this gods-forsaken Hell on Earth.

He lacked purpose until a bright flame drew his eye and his heart started pumping to a new beat.

Annie was that flame. As Ben's best friend and the daughter to immortals, she was no stranger to the impossible. And from the start, there was something about the red dragon that drew her. She felt compelled to give her all to him. To offer him comfort, to shield him from pain, to fight by his side.

He was the most broken man she'd ever seen. Despite that, because of that, he was the most intriguing and beautiful of all.

They were true mates... if only Red would get out of his own way.

With this story, this series, the author is showing us how love should be—unfettered and unconditional devotion.

And I'm not just talking about the romance, though it definitely deserves its own shine. The love these characters share with their loved ones, be them family or friends, is the stuff of dreams. The bonds they share, the way they stand for each other, how they work through their issues... it all has it's own beauty.

There was no doubt that Annie was meant for Merlin and he for her. The sparks that flew from their first meeting and how they fought through his old wounds and old hurts to find each other on the other side showed us how strong they will be. Destiny is a wondrous thing and it spoke so loudly for them.

She looked at him with something like awed compassion, as if she hurt too because he hurt. The same way she looked at him now. As if she knew him. As if he knew her.

There seems to be so much more to discover in this world of dragons and their immortal companions. With all of them coming together as they have, I can't even begin to imagine what the author has in store for us next. I just know that I'm all tingly and excited for whatever is to come.

So.... Red and Annie. I'll start off by saying, it was a pretty wild and unexpected ride, for many different reasons.

Red wasn't what I expected. His backstory, altho we got a hint of it from Dream of Dragons (Dragon Tails #1) by Aja James , is still not quite what I expected. It made sense once you understand his motivations and all that happened, but I was expecting more... I dunno... overall aggression and assertiveness. If Annie wasn't so patient where it mattered, and IMpatient where she needed to push him, I don't know how things would have turned out. I think they would have still gotten together eventually, they are clearly soulmates, but it would have taken longer if Red was in the driver's seat. And that's assuming he didn't kamikase himself before that. He was just really messed up. So... while I feel for Red, he wasn't my fave hero in the series thus far.

Annie was a gem. She's honestly BETTER than what I expected, and so the 2 of them balance out. And maybe that's why they're also such a great fit. She's a firecracker but also go-with-the-flow. She's the new gen of young-uns, but still "traditional" in some ways, an old soul. SHe's just really really likeable. And badass. And saved Red a few times it seems. I love when the woman is strong and can protect her man as much as he protects her.

I love when she took Red to task and gave him a talking to when he needed it. I also love that she doesn't push when she knows he needs to take his own time. Unlike any other book by AJ, this couple after getting together separated (not much on page but off page) a couple of times. Mainly bc Red needed to get his head screwed on straight, which I get. Which is also frankly realistic.

The fact that Annie had the confidence and patience to wait made me really appreciate her!

Then there's the ongoing story - Ben totally taking charge, Ere tagging along and being a fighter for once, Arthur and Lancelot, Seventh Sister... lots going on!

Another wild, enjoyable ride, and very sexy sex scenes :P

Can't wait for the next!

I have received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Heart of Dragons is the sixth installment of the Dragon Tails series. Just like the previous five books, I devoured this in one sitting. I have zero regrets about any of this because these books are just so hard to put down. It also doesn't hurt that I was a huge fan of Big Red and Annie either. Seriously, these two were just... wow. Completely explosive and so easy to fall in love with.

Besides the romance, we get an adventure or two filled with so many twists and turns. Ben and Ere are working together trying to solve JE's crazy riddles. Annie and Big Red are getting close to one another. And yet, there's so much more going on. For example, they are both getting attacked by some weird dark entities. At one point, it felt like my head was going to explode because so much was going on.

Then there's the ending. I was not prepared for it one bit and it makes me completely giddy to dive into the next book. I really need to know what the Seventh Sister is cooking up and I need to know right now. I'm also excited for Ben to find some romance.

Can you believe we’re already at book 6 of the Dragon Tails?
This series seems to fly by,even if the beta reads feel like they don’t….
But that’s only because we want more the moment we have another little bit of the story, and we have to wait for it!
That waiting…..it feels like torture! But the end-result? The full story?
IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!
Getting the ARC is always a good reason to celebrate the fact we made it through the agony of having to wait for each of those little bits.
To survive the pain the h and H are in at that moment.
To stop biting my nails when they’re in trouble and we don’t know how they’ll get out.
So,once i get it,i read it in one go….there’s no stopping me when i have my hands on it!

This is the story of Red and Annie, but at the same time it’s more than that.
Because Ben and Ere have been sent back to where Red came from.
To the Dark Ages of Britain,to retrieve “The Stone Heart”.
Whatever that means….

Red has been raging through the Celestial Realm ever since he was taken there.
Mad with pain from festering wounds,in agony over everything that went wrong in his life.
Until, finally,he accidentally finds a way out…..through the Mirror Pond.
And lands smack, bam,in the middle of New York City, near a bar.
Being unexplainably drawn to a very pretty redhead.
Who turns out to be the fire witch we all know and love,Annie.
And she’s equally drawn to the Beast of a Man from the first moment she sees him.
But why is he fighting the attraction they both so very obviously feel?
The pain she senses in him must be why,and she’s determined to find out who put it here!
After she finds him back, that is….because the stubborn man left her to “keep her safe”
Ha,as if she needs that!
If anyone needs keeping safe,it’s him,the stupid dragon seems determined to get himself killed!
Yes,she knows who he is,they met before.
And she knew then,as she knows now, that he is hers. As much as she is his. Period.
And she’ll stand by his side, fighting against whatever enemy tries to take him from her!
Even those dark figures….

In the meantime,Ben and Ere have done a thorough search of the late Gwyn’s caves with the help of Morgan and Tristan.
They díd find a few véry interesting items, but are no nearer an answer as they were before they started.
They háve found that Gwyn was even worse than they thought, and Arthur and Lancelot had suffered even more than they could imagine.
Giving those two back what was taken from them feels good, but it seems that’s not why they’re there…
Thát happens during a very dark night, when very dark figures try to kill Arthur…..and they return to the Celestial Realm with a dying Arthur and a helpless Lancelot.
The JE is not very pleased with Lancelot tagging along, but doesn’t hesitate in sending them to an unknown destination.

By now,Ere knows it pays off to cheat,so he doesn’t hesitate to take Ben to see Red.
Because he’s the one that’s been all over the Realm, and he will want to help save Arthur.
Will they find Arthur and Lancelot in time?
Can they save them without anyone getting hurt?
Or will Red end up sacrificing himself to save everyone?

There are so many things happening in Heart of Dragons!
Stuff that makes me wonder about what the JE really wants…
Is that good,what i’m doubting,or very bad?
Who’s side the Seventh Sister is on.
I thought i knew,but now…i’m not so sure anymore.
Dragons are the key,we knew that.
But how do their families fit into that?
Who are those dark figures, and where do they come from?
Strenght comes in numbers, and the company of dragons is steadily growing.
Being in the Tiger King’s territory is good, his people are prepared for anything.
I hope you don’t mind if i start bracing,though…..
Because i’m worried what else will happen!

We are all claiming every dragon we meet, making sure they get the love they deserve.
And they all need all the love they can get, because who knows what’s coming…

I can't possibly do justice with my words on how I feel about ALL of Aja books. I have read some paranormal but Aja world and they way she writes, you are there with the characters. This is the story of Red and Annie. First let's talk about Annie, I absolutely loved her and her fire!!! Red well his story hurt my heart , the pain he went through. Then you have allllll the other characters that help the story along and put a smile on my face. I can't wait for the next book and I am so grateful for Aja letting me go on this journey with her.

Loved the heroine, Annie, a twenty-six year old spunky fire witch, so much. She practically burned up and lighted up this installment! and in the end, burned the hero with a heart of stone, back to life!

The Hero aka Merlin, was a sad, broken~ tortured dragon, who spent centuries of his life, believing himself so worthless, so undeserving of love and happiness, and the worst, deserving death! He was so convincing in portraying the worthless image of himself that I couldn't see his worth either! He brought me spiraling downward into the depths his self-hatred. And I kept wondering why the heck wouldn't I just quit reading and walk away!

Merlin Loved Igraine so much that he willingly gave away parts of his powerful dragon body to an evil sorceress, in exchange for a long term impersonating of Igraine's dream man. She was so devastated when she found out that she killed herself! So . . . yeah . . . pretty tough for me to feel Merlin.

I was glad I persevered! This fantasy didn't shy away from another seemingly unredeemable main
character! In the end, I didn't need to love Merlin, but to feel empathy to his absolute obsession in Igraine. To feel sad for his failure to recognize an illusion of True Love!

The details of His and Annie's Happy Ending would happen ~ after the Epilogue.

Sharing my favorite Magnificent Red Dragon scene:

Deepest gratitude to the Incomparable Author for the gift of this ARC 💐

I received a copy of ARC for an honest review.

This series is definitely getting more interesting. Please read Pure/Dark ones series before reading this series.

I read this book a little slower; but not slow enough. I loved Annie soooo much in this book. We got to see her using more of her gift compared to her trip with Ben. And those steamy scenes were everything. I thought Ere really showed more of himself in battle and took not prisoners. He was definitely in the thick of battle with the others (that was really cool). Now we seem to be getting to another battle to come with the dragons and tiger clan. Will this battle be huge? We know the balance still hasn’t happened. What is Seven sister up to now? She’s now in the human world living under false pretense. Will Ben see who she really is? Are we coming upon Ben awakening? Yea, there is still more to come from Aja. Who will we read next?

*** ARC Review***

What a ride!! With this book, Aja has given us something different than before in our main characters, and I absolutely 💯 loved it!!!

The roles between the main characters are almost reversed as far as who is the strong one. We also get a lot of the back story in previous books, but this book just brings it all together and makes a cohesive main character.

Red & Annie are perfect, and they balance each other exceptionally! Red is broken... Both mentally and physically and all he cares about is escaping away from the Celestial realm. Annie is a strong fire witch who just wants a piece of this rugged, hott, tall drink of yummy-ness that is Red.

When Red escapes and lands in the real world, he is drawn to Annie, and the adventure begins. All the while, Ben and Ere are on another quest back in Arthur's time.

I absolutely loved "seeing" our old friends/ characters from precious books... and ohhh! Wolfe has a surprise for everyone 🥰.

The chemistry between Red and Annie was very different from any other characters, but it still worked. I was totally heartbroken for Red as he just saw himself as not worth it or too damaged to be cared for. Annie, on the other hand, was strong and hard-headed and just went for what she wanted .... which was basically to climb Red like a redwood tree, haha.

This book had a lot of little things thrown at us, and wow! they were all mind-blowing 🤯. All I have to say is seventh daughter...holy moly... what is going on.

Ican'tt wait to start the next book and continue this amazing series! If you haven't read anything by Aja ye, you seriously need to start with her Pure/Dark series and just binge your way to this book. I highly recommend reading that series before this as there are several over lapping character, and most importantly, it is AMAZING!!!!

On to the next!

I absolutely enjoyed this book. I have been wanting to read Red's story for some time now and I am so happy that this is his book. Annie and Red are perfect together. I feel like they balance each other out. I like that the main story took place in the present time and that we still got to see Ben and Ere complete another task. I was so shocked to read about the connection that Red has with other characters in the series. I was even more surprised by that ending. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Aja James never disappoints, each story is unique and the characters are amazing.

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving ARC.

I’m so glad that Annie was the main heroine is this book! I have always loved Annie’s character even when she was a kid. I was happy when she joined Ben on one of the adventures! And I’m so glad that she is coming more into her powers! She is so head strong, brave, and knows what she wants! She sees the beauty in everything, and she fights for those she loves! And she is a fire witch!! 🔥🔥

Then we have Merlin. I will say when he first came into play I felt so bad for him. He was abused by a evil sorceress, and was just waiting for death. We find out when Annie busted into his cave during one of his rages that there was something between them. Years pass and he is still broken. Which I hated that for him. He gets out to be dropped in NYC with a older Annie. I feel like yes I like Merlin but at times I was really frustrated with him.

He felt like he deserved all the pain and suffering he endured. Why you ask? Because he gave up valuable parts of himself to try and please Ingraine. Yes I understand that he thought he loved her, but for the life of me I couldn’t understand why he kept doing all that for her. She basically told him that she loved him for his looks. More than once. (Or that’s what it seemed like to me) He lost both of his sons. With one he was forgiven, and the other he was still pissed about something happened a long time ago. Made me seriously rethink his character.

Yes his father used a spell to make him look like someone else, but how many times does he have to apologize? Plus his mother was a grown woman who ignored the signs. How does someone not look at the “man” they say they love, and not see that their child looks like neither of them? I don’t know maybe it just me, but his son seems to be hold a grudge he has no right to be carrying anymore. Not like Merlin didn’t show him how much he loved and cared for him as he grew up.

Another reason I took of a star was I felt like Annie kind of forgave him to easily. He threw everything at her, embarrassing her in front her friends, pushing her away, and she just forgave him in seconds. Yes he thought he was doing it for her own good, but to have him say that it was just a f**k was really painful to read. Maybe it’s because I like Annie so much who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Other than that I loved the rest! Glad that Ben and Ere got to go on adventure together. Love how they work so well together. I felt kind of sad reading about how Ben is lonely, and I’m hoping he gets his special someone soon. I will also say yet again I’m left with a lot more questions than answers! Aja James is so great at leaving me going omg what?! When will I find the answers to my questions?! 🤔🤔 But hell that’s why I love reading her books. I get the feeling something big is coming. Like a very big war….. but I’m hoping I’m wrong. I’ll just do as I always do and wait patiently for her next book.

Thank you Aja James for letting me read this book, and taking me another great adventure!

Happy reading!! 🖤🖤

5 Bold and Spicy Stars!

Another day, another quest of peril, intrigue, and saving the world. Aja gifts us with Big Red and Annie this time but their romance isn’t the only thing taking a front row seat in the Dragon Tails world.

Big Red is in pain from both physical and emotional wounds inflicted in his life. Distraught and angry in the Celestial Realm, he accidentally discovers an escape through the Mirror Pond and finds himself in New York City. Lucky for him, the fire witch Annie is nearby and knows he is someone special. Taking him under her care, she intends on making him whole again and showing him that he is deserving of love and companionship. But Big Red is a stubborn Dragon and it will take all of Annie’s strength, power, and tenacity to show him that their bond is a forever kind of connection.

While Big Red and Annie are discovering their fates, Ben and Ere go on a quest back to where Big Red came from. Their mission is to obtain “The Stone Heart.” Unsure of what exactly that means or where it could be, they blindly dive in and discover there is more at play than they originally thought. Morgan and Tristan join in on the search and Arthur and Lancelot have deeper scars than anyone imagined. When everything goes to sh*t, it will take all of them to find solutions.

Heart of Dragons was action packed, romantic, and suspenseful. There are so many puzzle pieces yet to be placed. Alliances, loyalties, and motivations are questioned and the JE and the Seventh Sister make me wonder what the end game is.

This was such a fantastic story. As usual, the romance was full of passion and emotion and burned up my Kindle. The characters are developed with deep characterizations. I kind of missed Sorin though! But we got Ere and his humor and Ben and his larger-than-life aura. Annie was both fiery and vulnerable and Big Red was a quiet alpha male that worshiped Annie. I loved their relationship and chemistry.

I just love this series so much and all the dragons we’ve gotten to see paired up. I have a feeling we are in for a big battle. If you haven’t started this series and enjoy fantasy romance with otherworldly beings, angst and pain to get to the HEA, and a world so unique you’ll not see it anywhere else, then definitely dive in.

There is only so long I can make a delicious book last. I tried to drag it out, I really did! I might have read certain...ahem...sections more than once or twice or ten times...

Now to the story.

I have to admit. It didn't go like I thought it would. And in a way that's a good thing. I'm usually happily surprised when I can't predict everything that happens in a book. But it depends on the kind of surprise.

So, this installment is about Red and Annie. Big Red and his Little Flame.

I loved everything about them together. His mindless rage all this time in the celestial realm made so much sense now. This is a very pure dragon who fell in love with the wrong woman. He suffered for it. He regretted many things. He hated himself for it.

People make mistakes. Not all heroes are always heroic, and I love that Aja James writes these types of characters. Red is still so lovable tho. He has everything to give if he only let himself.

Enter Annie. We watched this vibrant, brave little girl grow up from the first time we saw her in Dark Redemption (Pure/ Dark Ones #6) by Aja James . My, how she's grown!!

She's Ben's best friend and a badass fire witch. She's also an independent young woman and knows what she wants. Maybe she was playing the field a little (and doing no one any harm), but now that she's met Red, that's IT. He's IT.

Meanwhile, Ben and Ere go on another mission into the past in search of the Stone Heart. I theorized along with other Muses what that Stone Heart was... and in a way, I think the whole book was a metaphor for it. Even tho the actual object wasn't what I expected.

All of the key men in this book had stone hearts -- Red, Arthur, Lancelot, Wolfe... It takes very special someones to melt these hearts, to win them. That's what this book is really about.

Loved every second of it, and can't wait for the next one!!

So I'm rating the book now bc I know it can't be any less than 5 stars, and also to balance the random rating that's been given...

As I write, the author has just sent us beta readers the prologue and first half of chapter 1. It promises to be a STUPENDOUS book!

Very interesting and exciting!

Merlin and Annie meet in the real world, and sparks immediately fly between them, but Merlin has so many regrets, guilt and hatred of himself that it's impossible for Annie to get him to let her into his heart or him into hers.

Ben and Ere are sent to the Dark ages again to retrieve the heart of stone, so they search for the item and who it might be, and come upon Arthur and Lancelot to help them with their quest.

More clues as to why all these quests have been undertaken for the jade emperor have been revealed, but left with even more questions is frustrating ! This quest brought Merlins son Arthur into the celestial realm, where his heart seems to be the treasure the emperor was wanting, but no one can figure out why all these quests and treasures are needed still. Assassins and shadow figures keep threatening them all, and Ben knows there is an ultimate reason for all of the things that are happening, just not exactly what .
For now, they will just train and live their lives until the next summons or attack.

And now Miss seventh is on the loose in the mortal realm ! The next adventure should be extremely exciting and hopefully enlightening !!!

Battered & Broken

As fire needs oxygen to thrive, so the Air Dragon and Fire Witch combine in a breathtaking conflagration of shy hope and determined healing as two become one.

Like Kintsugi, Merlin transitions from a battered and broken vessel to a beautiful being of power and magic. His scales marked by the scars of his past to be stronger, brighter, and more resilient than ever.

Merlin’s character is extremely well written. His dichotomy of tentative hope and jaded, suicidal acceptance are powerful factors to his development and forward momentum. I was able to connect with his character on a visceral level. That doesn’t happen often for me.

On a personal note: If I never see the phrase “with every fiber of his/hers/their being” it will be too soon. Authors should forget this phrase exists and stop using it.

Annie and Merlin have definitely become my favourite couple from the Dragon Tails Series! Annie is my favourite female character. She is so confident and is absolutely appealing simply because she’s amazing not because she tries to impress anyone. Merlin’s confidence was shattered through years of torture but slowly grows back with Annie’s help. Her love and dedication heal him. It’s true what they say “Love gives you wings”…☺️
