“But now I shall repeat myself. Will you marry me?”

*If you like powerful Dukes, loving Duchesses and a marvelous depiction of the majestic Regency and Victorian era, then Betting on his Duchess is the novel for you.
This is a historical Regency romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages) by Patricia Haverton. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a sweet happily ever after.
Born the oldest of three children, Patricia Haverton grew up believing that she'd follow in her father's footsteps and pursue a career in science. However, her worldview changed when she decided to explore her British mother's roots. The trip to her ancestral lands solidified her conviction that she had found her true calling in the romanticism of the Era of Kings and Queens.
A hopeless romantic and a firm believer in the idea of soulmates, Patricia changed the course of her life and decided to get her degree in Creative Writing and Psychology. As she jokingly says ever so often, "she lives in the past now, where love shows the way and Dukes save the day!"
When she's not weaving tales of love that prevails, Patricia enjoys spending time with her husband, roaming the British countryside, where they have been living in for the past decade.
Now would be the time to let yourself go and experience the true magic of the Regency Era! Let your imagination run wild, live amazing adventures through the eyes of brave heroes! Like the legendary wise wizard, Patricia will be your guide!
Arabella and Giles’ story Arabella and Giles’ story Characters were great, they are believable. The plot was amazing and story flows smoothly. This one is a page turner, a must read. Thanks
I liked the story, it had a bit of everything, but I think because of all the different story lines mingled in the book, I felt like there were things missing. Is not the typical one or two point of view stories, that revolves around the main couple, you have the stories of like 6 characters.
This has it's pros and cons, I guess. It is a easy read and it's main focus is not the romance.
It bothers me the "click here and get the real epilogue", because when I finished the book I was on a plane, therefore I couldn't read that part, but then I get 3 chapters of another book at the end!
Overall, a good story, entertaining, with some romance here and there, but also suspense and a bit of adventure.
I missed more depth in the main characters story line. And maybe the Sinopsis should mention that is not only their story. The end was a bit rushed and I didn't really got what happened with the bad guy, why was he so bad.
2.5* Allegedly Arabella and Giles story, he a duke and she daughter of a duke, but we also get Agnes, Arabella's younger sister and her beau Joseph's story. Add to that the mystery of Giles parents marriage, Arabella's evil uncle and his demonic sidekick Meltige, and lots of violence and it gets quite messy. There were bits I liked, but needed more context and exploration, and others so rushed they had to be read several times to get the correct meaning. We hear the start of the outcome in Meltige, but it's left hanging (like maybe he should be), but hear nothing about the evil uncle and wimpy downtrodden cousin. If they left the house at the end - whose house? Was the girls father really murdered by his brother? No end to the book, it accelerates like mad to the finish, and stops.
Too many loose ends.
Will say again if it's not good enough to publish as part of the book, don't bother including it under title extended epilogue. Never look at it, not part of the book. Irritating.
Love in abundance Where this is the story about Arabella and Gil it also is about Agnes, Joseph, and Noah all caught in a web of danger. With what Isaac and Gil went through when they were younger to the problems that the girls and Noah experience with Noah’s father this was a captivating story. So many twists but a very satisfying ending in the extended epilogue I could not put the book down. If you like mystery and suspense, characters that have unbelievable challenges, wonderful romance, true friends, and a load of other goodies this is the book to pick up it was wonderful.
Giles was a mess before he encountered Arabella. He even jokingly took wager that he could get her where others didn't stand a chance. Of course he intended not to go near her but then pretend that he tried but couldn't do it but then for the first time in his life he fell in love and it led him on the ride of his life. I hope you choose to read this great love story.
Arabella and Giles at first try to make a ruse of romance but they fall in love and then her uncle and others cause many twists and turns but love wins in the end The characters are realistic and filled with greed and jealousy The story is wonderful and well written I enjoyed reading as I do all books by this author
Beautiful story of Lady Anabella and Lord Giles pretending to be a couple. Lord had made a wager in his club that he would win.Lady Anabellas hand in marriage. There is a lot of danger and opposition from people close to them. But ultimately there problems come to an end . An Exciting read.
This story takes you on a rollercoaster ride with twist and turns of jealousy, greed, misunderstanding, mistrust, and each characters have their own unique personalities with their own agendas. From the moment I picked up this book to read, it captured my attention from beginning to end.
This story involves a deceased duke’s two daughters and his widow left at the mercy of his brother, the now present duke. Only this brother comes with evil intent and intrigues that get reveal and corrected leaving two head
This was ok until the end. It was like the author needed to cut pages and rushed the ending. I was still left with questions even after the extended epilogue. I feel like something else could be have been cut if necessary to leave room for more ending.
This reviewer did not give this read much of a chance for a well comprised happy ending but surprise, surprise! I recommend this read and look forward to reading more offerings by this author.
