Struggling to make ends meet, Mary Anne Randall is offered no help by her drunk and abusive husband. A pawnbroking business run from the wash house at the back of her home is the only way she can hope to keep her three kids fed and clothed. But, as storm clouds gather over Europe, can Mary Anne break free from her loveless marriage for what might be a last chance at love?
I seem to have gained an appetite for WW2 family dramas/romances this Summer - and Lizzie Lane just does it so well. Sometimes we just need a bit of escapism. I feel these novels are researched well enough to be realistic storylines.
Another excellent read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys this author. It draws you into the story and makes it difficult to put down. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
A very good read, upsetting in places, as I lived through those years, and met some of those poor children who were torn away from everything they knew, very sad!
Absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. A great wartime story with some hard hitting facts that some people must have gone through back then. High recommend.
-Drawn into the story and the characters straight away. -There is a lot to this story and not what I was expecting at all. -Well researched and seems realistic. -Last book in the series I think and it was just a lovely saga as always from Lizzie Lane.
What I disliked:-
-It was a bit slow to start. -Ending was not very satisfying unless this is not the last book in the series and there is another to come to continue the story.
Very good read so far. The only thing is the spelling and grammar is off a bit from English. But it's still a good book to read and I'll be reading the next chapter.
