Tee O’Fallon has combined great characterization, action, suspense, attraction, arson, and danger in the second book in the K-9 Special Ops series: Burning Justice . This romantic suspense novel features Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Special Agent Brett Tanner and National Insurance Crime Bureau Investigator Gemma Scott. Brett narrowly survived a childhood fire that killed two of his friends. That trauma as well as another one that occurred a year ago motivates him to work with his K-9 partner Blaze to track down arsonists. The latest warehouse fire looks suspicious and a body has been found. After a coworker took credit for Genna’s work during her first year as an investigator, she works alone. The setting is largely in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado.

However, they’re in a race against an arsonist and neither wants another body found at a suspicious fire. They decide to work as a team. Her investigation has reached the point of needing law enforcement resources she doesn’t have and he needs information her firm’s database has. In addition to their investigations, the attraction between Brett and Gemma and a separate mystery keep the story advancing rapidly.

The characterization of Brett and Gemma has depth. Brett is competent, smart, and chivalrous. He’s kind and compassionate and volunteers at the hospital with Blaze as a therapy dog. However, he has night terrors and a tendency to ruin relationships. Gemma is fiercely independent, intelligent, perceptive, and has great investigative, organizational, and interviewing skills. However, she also has trouble trusting others. They are both determined to solve the arson cases. I loved their chemistry and enjoyed the slow burn romance.

The author weaves suspense, danger, action, and intense moments throughout the plot. Additionally, the approaches to an investigation by the main characters as well as their thought processes kept me engaged and rapidly turning the pages. The novel builds suspense in a way that pulls readers into the lives of the characters. The plot is full of chasing down leads and interviewing people as well as plenty of danger for those involved. There are several twists and turns and a surprise near the end of the novel.

Real-world issues are incorporated into the story that add depth to the narrative. This includes mental health issues, greed, murder, guilt, and a woman working in an industry that is comprised of 90 percent men. A little humor is interspersed throughout the book to lighten the darkness. There are a couple of steamy scenes in the second half of the novel.

Overall, this briskly paced novel was engaging and atmospheric with great characterization. I can’t wait to find out who will be featured in the next book. I recommend this to those that like romantic suspense novels with relatable and likeable main characters. This can be read as a standalone novel.

Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled: Amara and Tee O’Fallon provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for August 22, 2023. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

Great story! But that ending was mehhh! 4.5 STARS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to say I love O’Fallons methodology when she’s creating these law enforcement, romantic suspense stories. Her characters are always super unique and the guys definitely fall into the hot cop category.
She creates memorable themes, plus her descriptions and pacing just ramp you up the further you get into the story.
O’Fallon takes the slow burn method when it comes to her romantic side, which could cause a love-hate situation right there.
The female leads are always powerful capable women who support their man. And like the other books in this series, we have to have the amazing pup who is also a K-9 officer, and what a great character this guy is. So Cute!
O’Fallon had me all in with this book and I hated putting it down even to sleep. The only thing that really bugged me was the ending. It was abrupt and it would have been so much more satisfying if she would’ve included one more chapter to let us see the characters after the happily ever after and all.
Whenever I see a book by O’Fallon, however, I always tend to get to grab them. I know she writes wonderful stories that are well-developed and loaded with highly descriptive scenes and activities that build that suspense. And let’s not forget the steamy connections between the main characters.
O’Fallon always delivers a memorable and exciting story full of chemistry and fire!
This is an entertaining, well-written, fast paced, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has an engaging, intelligent female protagonist, a strong, and capable, wounded male protagonist, a heroic K-9, sizzling chemistry, supportive family and friends, a touch of humor, intrigue, twists and turns, and a happily ever after ending. This is the second entry in Ms. O'Fallon's outstanding K-9 Special Ops series, and can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the next entry in this series, which I hope will be Evan's story, with great anticipation. Many thanks to Entangled Publishing, Ms. Tee O'Fallon, and NetGalley, from whom I received an ARC of this fantastic novel.
I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Anyone who has previously read a Tee O’Fallon book will have come to expect her trademark addicting, fast paced, page-turning tales, and Burning Justice is no different. I got pulled into the story from the very beginning and just couldn’t put it down. Seriously, I read it in one sitting!
Finding out Brett’s background makes you want to hug him, and of course, his canine companion brings extra interest, depth, and wonderful moments of humor. Brett is a fierce and protective guy, willing to do whatever it takes to solve the case - even if it means doing the one thing that will cost him the girl he’s falling for.
Gemma is a fun, spunky, take no crap from anyone heroine, and is the perfect match for Brett in every way. Watching how their relationship develops is fun and will have readers rooting for them to figure things out.
The case is gripping, fascinating, and convoluted, keep you glued to the pages and dying to find out what happens next.
Seeing characters from the previous book in the series (Tough Justice) is a wonderful treat, too!
Burning Justice is another 5 star read to add to Ms. O’Fallon’s list, one you definitely won’t regret buying! A truly fabulous addition to her K-9 Special Ops series.
I am a sucker for a romantic suspense story featuring agents and K9 units. I jumped into this blind. Each book in this series is a standalone, but I promise you’ll want to listen to them all.
Gemma Scott, an insurance investigator, is confident despite a past teammate claiming her work as his own. When she and ATF Agent Brett Tanner, a strong, confident but wounded hero work together to solve a string of arsons the two butt-heads even as sparks fly.
I loved getting Tanner’s backstory and understood how protective he was towards Scott. Her determination drives her to take part in all parts of investigations. She wants to be right alongside Tanner, exploring charred buildings and interrogating suspects. As the two work together, their respect for one another grows, as does the sexual tension. I loved seeing the two of them work through things on a personal and professional level.
Of course, Blaze, Tanner’s K9 added to the tale from his instant like of Scott to working the case. The author crafted a well-rounded, suspenseful tale with plenty of twists.
Vanessa Daniels narrates and does a lovely job of giving voice to Tanner & Scott. Her male voices are well-done and I always enjoy listening to her narrations.
The romantic element woven throughout added some spice and felt genuine. Fans of romantic suspense, K9 units and mystery will want to add this to their reading list. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
This is an exciting and suspenseful book. I felt so sorry for Brett because of what he went through a few times with fires. The whole fire in his younger days shaped his future and his job as an ATF special agent along with his K-9 partner Blaze. I feel it was a good thing that he met Gemma who was an Insurance investigator when there was a suspicious warehouse fire. Gemma was so smart and had to always prove herself in a predominantly male job, which she had got burned once. It was so interesting reading about how the two put clues together and how it usually led them to more questions and clues to follow. The two were in some pretty tight spots at times. It was fun watching the them fall in love, but deny it to themselves. I felt Ms. O’Fallon did a wonderful job keeping me guessing who was the arsonist. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
ATF Agent, Brett Tanner is called into investigate a suspicious fire and runs into Gemma Scott, with the National Insurance Crime Bureau, also working the case. Brett and Gemma think that the fire is connected to a string of prior fires and reluctantly team up, pooling sources to solve the mystery and bring the criminals to justice.
Brett has personal reasons behind his dogged determination to catch the bad guy(s) and suffers PTSD from his history.
Gemma’s been burned by an ambitious co-worker who stole her past case and claimed it as his own accomplishment. Since then, she’s been wary about taking on any partners, but Brett’s position in the ATF gives her access to parts of the investigation she wouldn’t have otherwise. Also, her gut tells her she can trust Brett. She loved his K-9 partner, Blaze, right away and as they say dogs are the best judge of character. There was an immediate attraction between these two, but they try and keep things professional. Of course, they can resist only for so long. I was rooting for them to solve their case and for them as a couple!
As a fan of well-done police/crime procedurals, I thoroughly enjoyed Burning Justice, even more so with a smart K-9 partner! I was hooked and eager over every discovery they made that led them closer to the truth and on edge as their investigations put them in danger! The mystery and romance wrap up nicely and I look forward to the next in the series: Ultimate Justice!
Burning Justice is another awesome read from Tee O'Fallon
This was such an exciting, intriguing read about ATF Agent Brett and K9 Blaze and Insurance Investigator Gemma.
They are teamed up to work together to catch a serial arsonist and murder. Can they put there pasts aside when they become closer?
This book is full of suspense, mystery, steam and some awesome characters. Another awesome read in the K-9 Special Ops Series
I have mixed feelings about this book.
On one hand I really liked the storyline and build up, I liked how both characters had strength but actually it was Brett with the more complex background. I liked the storyline and it certainly was a journey to get to the end point with lots of great side characters being introduced
I liked the romance element and how the intrigue slowly built.
My main issue was that I felt whilst Brett got lots of backstory, Gemma’s was only fleeting. I never felt like there was sufficient detail given to explain WHY she was so independent to the point she didn’t even ask her family for help.
I also though that in the end Brett did to her exactly what she had been afraid of and there was no point I felt he really explained why or gave enough for her to forgive him so it did end a little frustratingly for me
Burning Justice was an action packed, romantic suspense that was a lot of fun to read.  With characters that were easy to adore, a dog that will melt your heart, a storyline that will keep you guessing and some steamy scenes, I devoured this book so quickly!  Fans of romance and romantic suspense definitely need to have this one on their tbr!
Gemma’s eyes gleamed with the same energy thrumming through his veins.
Because they now had a prime suspect.
Gemma Scott worked for the National Insurance Crime Bureau and ended up on the same case as Bret Tanner, an ATF special agent.  While Gemma had been burned in the past while partnering on a case, working with Bret seemed inevitable.  Not only did they both have the same gut feeling, but it looked like they were after an arsonist who had no problem murdering too. I loved that Gemma was brilliant, confident and how self-sufficient she was.  She was a woman so many others could look up to.  Yet Gemma wasn't too happy with herself that she was attracted to Bret.  Truly I couldn't fault her, I was too lol!
His dark blue gaze met hers and held it. How she wished she could read his mind at that moment.
Bret Tanner was broody, smart, kind, and utterly sexy.  He had no problem telling Gemma how much he appreciated her and what she did for their case! And while they were such a fabulous team, it hurt that Bret thought so low of himself. I didn't understand where it came from. And once we figured it out, oh my heart, it was horrific.  Bret was beyond tortured from his past and struggled with PTSD.  My heart broke for him.  So I was grateful that he had Blaze in his life!  He was his K-9 therapy dog who was absolutely incredible!  Blaze could be hilarious, heartfelt and was so easy to love!  How could you not love a dog that enjoys watching Animal Planet lol?!
“Good job, partner.” When he removed his hand, the warm imprint of his long fingers on her bare skin sent a shiver of awareness through her, this one stronger than what she’d felt in Hicks’s office. Along with a surge of happiness.
Their attraction to each other couldn't be denied. So while their first time kissing turned incredibly hot *fans face*, they needed to focus on their case.  Not get emotionally involved with one another. And definitely not be kissing or more. As we alternated between Gemma and Bret, I loved watching them put the clues together. We got to witness events unfold that led to people's stories that felt so real. And were heart wrenching to listen to. The trauma Bret and Gemma came upon in their fields could be so consuming. Yet as the clocked kept ticking by, we watched as they tried to solve the case with chases, attacks, and life and death battles swirling around them!
They were being targeted, and if they didn’t get a solid lead to follow and fast, sooner or later…
The perpetrator would find his mark.
I have to say that I typically don't read romantic suspense, but I previously gave Tough Justice a try and was hooked by Tee O'Fallon's writing! Her characters found their way so easily into my heart and her storylines keep you turning that page until you reach the last one! I fell for another one of her books, and I loved catching up with Deck and Tori from Tough Justice!  We got to see a new aspect of their relationship, and I was so over the moon happy! Burning Justice's ending will leave readers with a smile on their face! And I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
“Sit,” Brett said, pointing an admonishing finger at his dog. “We do not eat other people’s pets for breakfast. Understood?”
Woof.
PS I adored that Gemma had a pet that I have never read someone else having! The name was so cute!
* You don't need to read the previous book to understand this book.
After surviving a deadly fire in his childhood, Brett Tanner is a very successful AFT agent. But after a recent incident where two children lost their lives in a house-fire, Brett has been battling the demons from his past ever since. So when the chance comes up to try and catch the culprit Brett will grab it with both hands, even if he has to work with insurance investigator Gemma Scott to get his justice. Brett and Gemma work well together, but even with the sexual tension between them their advisory keeps eluding them and creating more victims.
Pro's:
+ This was quite the investigative story, there were a lot of twists and I have to be honest that I didn't see the ending or the revelation of the suspect coming at all. Also the author didn't shy away from the gore and gruesome details in this entry.
+ Even though the 'darkness' and past of our protagonists felt a bit too dramatic at times, the author stayed really true to their pasts. I also really like how these characters didn't fix each other, but there was some actual therapy involved in this book, which was quite fun to see.
Con's:
- I feel like the canine characters have gotten a lot more love than Blaze gets in this book. He felt more like an after-thought at times than the K-9 in a book centered about them. He was a bit too quirky and I felt like we didn't learn a lot about his skills.
This was a fine read, loved the investigation and the romance was also nice, but I missed the interactions with the dog from the other novels quite a lot. It gave this book more the vibe of a regular cop-romance than a true K-9 novel and I found that a bit of a pity. Nonetheless I will look forward to the third book in this series, as I feel like that one could have gone quite deep and dark very quickly. This was fun, but nothing truly spectacular.
This series is a romantic suspense treasure: each book has a well written suspenseful plot, a good balance between action and emotional moments, a decent amount of steam, and compelling characters. And dogs.
This time, it’s the story of Brett, ATF special agent interested in arsons for personal reasons, and Gemma, investigating a series of fires for the NICB. They’re introduced to each other at a warehouse fire–what a meet-cute! Brett has survived two fires and is looking for the perpetrator of the latest one, as it resulted in the death of two teenagers. When Gemma reveals she thinks that fire is connected with the warehouse one, Brett decides to team up with her.
Brett has survivor guilt, as well as a strong protecting streak. He’s also a fine investigator, and though he doesn’t trust his feelings, he sure trusts his partner. Gemma has been burned–AH!–in a previous partnership, and it takes her longer to trust Brett, but she recognizes his skills. They made a great pair, and I loved that it showed how well they worked together. In all senses.
There was desire, of course, but it was more than just chemistry. They had similar tastes, they respected each other, and they shared enough of their personal life for them to really know each other. In a way, the suspense came first in the story, and the romance was born from it. I can appreciate that.
That also meant that the suspense was very well crafted. Besides a tiny point that was quickly forgotten when it could have been relevant, all the elements fit together, with the added delight of a twist by the end.
Be warned that there’s a potentially triggering element in this story–children’s death–and though it isn’t really graphic, the author insists on it because it’s Brett’s main trauma. Proceed with caution. But if you don’t mind, please enjoy this great romantic suspense.
Quickie
- Series: K-9 special ops #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #romantic suspense #workplace romance #dogs
- Triggers: deaths, violence, mention of past abuse, murders, fires, PTSD
- Main couple: Gemma Scott & Brett Tanner
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + what a gripping suspense it was
- – there was one little hole in the story, of no real importance, but that bothered me (no spoiler!)
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 stars.
Two strong-willed agents, both with a surprisingly soft core, feature in “Burning Justice”, by Tee O’Fallon (Entangled: Amara), along with a bunch of compelling side characters and a sweet yet fiercely devoted K-9 dog.
The sexy hero, Brett, is a tortured soul trying to atone for his supposed sins by being the best ATF agent. Brett feels broken and unworthy and his sense of survivor’s guilt is deeply rooted in his psyche.
Brett and Gemma are both driven professionals and passionate about their jobs. I liked watching them work together and how Brett manages to be the perfect gentleman and also respect and cooperate with his colleague (even if he makes some dumb and questionable decisions sometimes).
I really liked how the author wrote about the attraction and chemistry between Brett and Gemma, how it’s so immediate, permanent and reveals itself in so many palpable ways.
The fact Brett’s trauma and psychological scars haven’t a miraculous cure is also realistic. The path for redemption is tortuous.
There’s a healing process for Gemma’s trust issues, too, although they’re more benign.
I appreciated the realism and knowledge of the investigation and criminal procedures, although sometimes I felt they were a bit over described.
The relationship between Brett and Blaze is awesome, with so much competence and some adorable, sweet moments between the two partners.
The side characters are interesting, too, particularly Brett’s friends.
This one was interesting. Both Brett and Gemma were very independent and good at their jobs, both wanted to get to the bottom of things. I'm not sure they could have solved things alone. Gemma needed a federal law enforcement side for help and Brett needed Gemma's big brain to see the big picture of what was going on. Along the way feelings developed, both fought it like crazy and still succumbed. It seemed like maybe they could really work, until Brett did the one thing that Gemma couldn't forgive and all of a sudden it was war, or at least it was on Gemma's side. Sure Brett was trying to protect her, but that was not how Gemma saw things. In the end things ended on a positive note for them.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher Entangled Publishing, LLC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I felt this was a well-written romantic suspense. I am a sucker for the hero-rom genre, especially if the female protagonist is intelligent, capable, quirky, and strong while the male counterpart is compassionate and just enough alpha. Brett Tanner and Gamma Scott have a fantastic chemistry I could feel coming off the pages. I enjoyed reading their inner monologue on how they felt. However, this is not a spicy 🌶️ book for those who prefer the super hot and heavy. This is more of a romance with a touch of spice in a few suitable places. Gamma works for the NICB, aka National Insurance Crime Bureau. Brett works for ATF, aka the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. They teamed up to investigate a string of fires that might be connected. Tee O’Fallon writes well-developed characters and plots. The K-9 Special Ops series is entertaining, suspenseful, and very engaging who done it.
Burning Justice❤️‍🔥
Brett and Blaze are a team and investigate arson/fires that occur in the area. Brett is chasing a particular arsonist who killed two teenagers in a house fire. When he hears about a warehouse, he quickly makes his way to see what’s happening. While there, he finds himself face to face with Gemma, an insurance agent😁 It soon becomes clear that they are working towards a similar goal and they begin working together…though both have issues with this for personal reasons😢
A fantastic story that had some real emotional aspects that touched me, but also a great story and couple in Brett and Gemma….loved her goldfish😍 Can’t wait for more in this series…I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and voluntarily leave my honest review❣️
It was an engaging tale with two strong, hard-headed characters and an adorable police dog.
I love the idea of the law enforcement guys and their K-9 partners. Brett’s dog, Blaze, has a huge personality and he’s an important part of the story. It was also wonderful seeing Brett’s friends and their dogs contribute to Brett’s investigation.
The arson investigation was gripping and when Gemma was targeted, that added another nail-biting facet. They both had super interesting jobs and their professions meshed well.
Brett had a huge personal growth arc. His single-minded devotion to solving this crime was admirable, but Gemma and their relationship showed him that there was more to life and that he deserved to have more. The story didn’t develop Gemma’s motivations to the same degree, but she was an interesting character. She handled herself with aplomb in a career dominated by men. Brett supported her in her efforts to be seen as a competent investigator and not a pretty face, but he also gave her room (for the most part) to handle situations by herself.
I just didn’t connect with their relationship. Brett made some unilateral decisions for Gemma, based on his own fears, and she saw it as a betrayal. And in the end, it was Gemma who had to exercise understanding for his reasons, but he didn’t treat her feelings with the same deference. I’m also not convinced that they truly resolved anything at the end when they kissed and made up.
I can recommend this book and this series if you like thrilling crime investigations, dog, and steamy romance.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.25⭐
Tee O Fallon returns with another enjoyable addition to the K9 Special Ops Series. This time featuring ATF Agent Brett Tanner and his adorable K9 companion Blaze. Who are on the trail of an arsonist and now murderer who seems to be targeting run down properties throughout a Colorado town.
But if Brett is to have any chance of finding the person,person's responsible he needs to gain the trust of NCIB investigator Grace. Who during her own investigation has started to see a pattern in the fires set and has vital Intel that Brett desperately needs.
And Brett has more reason than most to want to stop them after being injured in a fire that claimed two of his childhood friends. He knows the damage fire and those who set them cause.
But the more Brett pulls Grace into his investigation the higher the stakes become and she soon becomes a target.
However, Bretts friends and their canine companions are on hand to help keep her safe and hunt down the culprit.
And with danger, secrets, sweetness, mystery, and suspense. Not to mention a slow burn romance. This was a truly engaging read. That was only really let down by the ending, which I felt was a little abrupt.
My thanks to Entangled Publishing who kindly provided me with an early copy of Burning Justice to read and review. 😊
Brett definitely can be a big dumb dummy, but you’ll understand his motives. After all, dear makes you do dumb things. And he can’t imagine life without Gemma, even if he doesn’t want to admit it and therefore plays some emotional games he’s not truly meaning to play. And Gemma? Well, she’s stubborn but she’s got good reason to be. And she also lets the one guy in who can shatter her trust. The real question is whether or not they can move forward together once their case is solved. Or if they’re just destined to be nothing more than a quick fire and ash.
These two might think that they’re unconventional together, but they work well. Better than well, really. They get so close to both the answers of this mystery and each other in such a short amount of time that it clearly scares a few people. But when the shiny little objects fly (and luckily miss, for the most part), these two work best. Or they do until someone does the stupid thing that may be unforgivable. Luckily, good grovels are had and the case is also solved (and so is another one that’s more important to a special kid). So now I wonder about Evan. I’m sure we’ll get his story, but I’m almost afraid of where it will lead. I’ll still be here for it either way though.
Review copy was received from NetGalley, Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I enjoy the romantic suspense in the  K-9 Special Ops series, and the dogs.  The men in each book are dog handlers in different branches of law enforcement.  In this case, Brett is in the ATF and is tracking some arson investigations near and dear to his own life and history.  Gemma is an insurance investigator, also tracking data on some arson cases.
The canine handlers have a bond to their dogs and have all become friends, having met at some K9 events.  So we see the couples from previous books, very briefly, in current books.  Brett and his dog are capable but seem a bit emotional, due to his PTSD from a fire in his childhood and a similar one recently.  He thinks he failed and is not good enough for any woman.
Gemma has her own hang-ups with a previous work partner taking her work and getting credit for it.  Brett and Gemma do end up working together, putting their personal issues aside to save lives.  They manage to put their own lives in danger because the arsonist is fine with murder.   Things get exciting and they work desperately to get the evidence to finally identify the arsonist.
The heat flares up between Brett and Gemma, and with it, Brett's instinct to protect Gemma.  They are both hard workers and manage to figure out everything. The dog, its training and work, are definitely woven into the story. I am always ready for more about the dogs.
Another great read in this wonderful series where somehow the canine always seem to steal the show This latest offering is ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner and and his arson dog Blaze's story. Brett has history with fire he lost two of his friends as a teenager to a fire he was the only survivor and he has felt guilty ever since Throw in the fact he was hurt trying to save two teens in arson fire earlier this year that he believes is the work of a serial arsonist and you can see why he is driven He finds his perfect match in insurance investigator Gemma Scott she also believes that these fires are the work of a serial arsonist. Brett wants her to work with him and she agrees but she will not trust him after all she has been burnt before when co workers have taken credit for the cases she has solved. Soon not only the fire are burning there is a deep attraction between these two but danger is circling as they get closer to the one lighting the fires.
This was such a great book and I loved the characters. Brett Tanner is an ATF Special Agent and he lives with PTSD and survivor's guilt. He survived a fire that took the life of his friends when he was younger. There are a lot of fires that are very suspicious and he is determined to find who does it. Brett and his K9 are both on scene. In comes Gemma Scott and she is an insurance investigator. She is timid to work with someone else again after being hurt before.
They make the best team and he is overprotective because of his past. They are targeted by the arsonist and as they get closer to the answers, people end up dead. This book is filled with lots of suspicious characters and the ending took me by surprise. I will be reading more books by this author and we will be adding this to our library collection.
I really enjoyed this book! I am NOT a romantic suspense fan. Let's just start off saying that because full disclosure that I'm not a fan of the genre. However, this is my second romantic suspense book by Tee O'Fallon, and I really enjoyed it. I listened to the audiobook of book one a few months ago, so when I had the chance to get the physical ARC of this one, I was so excited to continue this series. And this one did not disappoint! While the beginning started off a little slow for me, I really do feel like the ending more than made up for it. Because that ending was SO good! I do feel like I enjoyed book one a little more; however, I really enjoyed this one as well. Definitely recommend this series, even if you are like me and don't enjoy this genre. I'm excited for the next book!
This book was deliciously steamy and wickedly good! Brett and Gemma take you on an intense thrill ride filled with breath stealing action, edge of your seat suspense and tantalizing mystery. Both main characters were awesome and their chemistry and sparks electric. Loved every minute of it.
3.0 Sadly not as good as book 1. The ATF and NICB investigation didn't interest me. No warm and fuzzy for the 2 main characters Brett/Gemma either. Blaze, the ATF K9 was the best part of the story.
Have hope that book 3 steps it up.
Burning Justice (K-9 Special Ops book two)
By Tee O'Fallon
If I could give this book 50 stars I would because from page one it will have you totally wrapped up and you going on a wild ride of ATF Arson investigation Brett and his dog Blaze. It will take all his friends and their dogs to solve this mystery.
When Gemma who works for NICB starts to see a pattern in the arson fires being set on houses that considered money pits she knows that to find the people who are doing this she needs more help especially from the ATF agent Brett and his K 9 partner Blaze. Because he has a connection to the first fire that injured him and the two boys who didn't get out alive. Plus a childhood fire that haunts him to this day, First he has to get the trust of Gemma to share her Intel and track down how the fires may be part if a insurance scam. But when an attempt on their lives happens will Brett go rogue to protect the woman he loves, Gemma?
Thank you Entangled Publishing and Net Galley for the ARC of this book which I voluntarily read for a honest review.
** Voluntarily read and reviewed copy of Advanced Reader Copy **
4 stars
Positive: This book is exactly what you are looking for when coming to a romantic suspense while being it's own unique story. Rather than the standard military, cop, or FBI story this one follows ATF agent Brett and NICB agent Gemma as the conduct an investigation on a series of possibly related arson cases., along with Brett's accelerant sniffing k-9 partner. I felt like the chemistry was good and made since between the characters and while it wasn't the most spicy book what spice we did get was solid. Pacing felt fine while reading with a good mix of action and down time so it never felt like bits dragged on.
Negatives: I don't have a lot of negatives to say about this book besides wishing there has been more interaction between the mains and Brett's friends/fellow agents as well as Gemma's family. A few times I got a little annoyed with Gemma for being so far in the column of needing to prove she can do everything her self that she is stubborn and almost gets killed BUT it wasn't a big deal since it was treated as a character flaw that is addressed in her character development as the story progresses, it just seemed a bit heavy handed at times.
Overall if you want romantic suspense that isn't your run of the mill story this is a great option and I look forward to Evans book since his story is heavily discussed in this one.
I received an advanced reader's copy of Burning Justice by Tee O'Fallon from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was not the first book by Tee O'Fallon that I've read and I have never been disappointed so I went in with high hopes. Happily, the positive track record continued with another fantastic book!
Overall, I felt this was a solid romance and I found it to be well written. I liked the chemistry between the main characters, ATF agent Brett Tanner and insurance investigator Gemma Scott, from their first meeting and all the way through to the end. I thought the action was steady and the romance to be evenly paced. Add in the fact that a K-9 is a main part of the plot and this was a quick, fun read.
Gemma is an insurance investigator who has learnt the hard way that she is better off working alone however to ensure that her investigation is solved before any more casualties’ result, she knows that working with Bret is best for all involved.
Bret is an ATF whose difficult past led him into his career. When his latest investigation with his canine partner Blaze intersects with Gemma’s he soon realizes that she is accomplished in her field. The only problem is that as they work together, they are not only battling the feelings between them but the threat that only continues to mount and close in.
Gemma and Bret take us on a suspenseful and romantic journey as they find themselves facing not only the danger in the present but the events of their pasts.
When Gemma joined Brett in an arson investigation there was instant heat. But with that heat danger, remorse, and betrayal followed right behind. Blaze the cannine stole the scenes as he found items to give concrete evidence to their theories. But author Tee O'Fallon threw in a twist right at the end that was a total suprise. I found this book easy to picture events as they happened and it was difficult to put down.
I received this book as an arc and am voluntarily submitting my review.
