Myrtle Beach Mystery #0.5

The Brass Key: A Myrtle Beach Mystery Book 0.5

Rate this book
From the award-winning author of the acclaimed Myrtle Beach Mystery Series comes a prequel short-story to Death on the Boardwalk - from a different perspective.

A discovery in a Grand Strand consignment store sends Mark and Peggy Whitman, two tourists celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary while staying at the OceanScapes Resort on an adventure. Mark is aging, unmotivated, and hasn't been the same since a heart attack. Peggy has tried to boost Mark's spirits, but failed.

That starts to change when they find an item tucked inside a purchase, igniting an unexpected journey that explores the Grand Strand, a secret romance, and rekindles their love for one another. But to find the secret, Peggy needs Mark to find the drive to help before they have to check out.

Along the way, they will encounter faces familiar to the series, and meet some that have not been seen before, all in the day before Clark Thomas finds a body on his bookstore doorstep.

Filled with Wygal's characteristic humor and fast, fun writing style, The Brass Key is a delightful entry to the Myrtle Beach Mystery Series.

I’m so glad to have discovered this little prequel book before I started reading the first novel in the Myrtle Beach Mystery series. If I enjoy the novels as much as I enjoyed this story, I’m in for quite a treat!

“A tarnished brass key fell into her open hand.”

“Perhaps an adventure was just what the two of them needed.”

“Sometimes what you can’t see is just as important as what you can.”

I have enjoyed the first two Myrtle Beach Mysteries books by Caleb Wygal. I love a good cozy beach mystery and Caleb always delivers. This was a fun little prequel short story starring an older married couple celebrating 50 years at Myrtle Beach when they discover a brass key. This leads them on an adventure and mystery to discover what it leads to and what it will unlock. This mystery is more of the journey than following the clues. It was good when Clark made his brief appearance and I liked the parts that mentioned things and places from books 1 and 2. Looking forward even more now to book 3 in the series.

Such a lovely little short story!
I read both first and second books of the Myrtle Beach Mysteries and this prequel to them was a fun little adventure that introduced the characters that will become important in the series.
It’s a great story that gives you all the feels for Mark and Peggy as they go on their little adventure!

This was a fun read and prequel to the series. It wasn't Clark's story, but the sleuth, an elderly couple on vacation for their 50th Anniversary were great to follow.

A cute little read. Outta the three books in the Myrtle Beach Mystery series Caleb has wrote, I liked this one. If felt personal and it was very descriptive. My favorite line outta these three books had a Pizza Hut line in it. It was a sweet little story about love and love never dying, and it’s sad if you have read the other books because Clark lost his wife, he still loves her and it shows. Make sure to read book 4 it comes out tomorrow!

Death on the Golden Mile was given to us as a gift. Loved the book and immediately went to find more books. Reading Death Washes Ashore now. Ordered the Brass Key short story and it was great. Caleb use to live in our community before moving to Mrytle Beach and he wrote a short note and put it inside the book for me. I have more books to read and recommend them to anyone who loves mysteries or just reading!

It is fun to read a book and be able to see the real places in mind of the town where I live. Although this is a fictional short story, the scenario is real. I visited the place Wygal mentions, although it was in Murrells Inlet, not Pawleys Island. I have completed 4 of his full-length MB mysteries and can't wait for the next one. I hope he continues to write about my home town.

Simple, easy, quick read. This book is laying the foundation for the other books that follow in this series regarding mysteries that take place in the Myrtle Beach area.

Honestly picked up this book at the library because it was small and I liked the idea of a short mystery story. Thoroughly enjoyed it. "Sometimes, the adventure is the treasure."

I love that Kaleb went back and included this gem of a story in his Myrtle Beach Mysteries world. We've all been Mark and Peggy Whitman whenever we've walked through a museum or time-period house and wondered about the various stories connected to the random objects we see.
