May Moore, 29, an average Midwestern woman and deputy sheriff, has always lived in the shadow of her older, brilliant FBI agent sister. Yet the sisters are united by the cold case of their missing younger sister—and when a new serial killer strikes in May’s quiet, Minnesota lakeside town, it is May’s turn to prove herself, to try to outshine her sister and the FBI, and, in this action-packed thriller, to outwit and hunt down a diabolical killer before he strikes again.
An after-prom party by the lake has gone horribly awry, with a teenage victim found dead on the shore.
May struggles to connect the dots, trying to reconstruct an evening that none of the partiers can remember. Did the party simply spiral out of control?
Or could this be the work a new killer?
A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured Deputy Sheriff, the MAY MOORE series is a riveting mystery, packed with non-stop action, suspense, jaw-dropping twists, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Since I bought a boxed set of ebooks 1-3 in the series, I felt compelled to finish all three before saying anything about reading the rest of the set. My title should tell you my answer. If you enjoy protagonists who are consistently ridden by self-doubt, insecurities and emotions you may like this one. I don't.
Then there's the relative lack of any sort of real world police experience, the repetitious nature of the story (a young girl is murdered. Shortly after her body is found, another young girls is murdered; the sheriff immediately says "serial killer;" May once again postponed investigating the cold case of her sister's disappearance ; she eventually solves the crime after realizing she was going at it all wrong); let alone that any small locale in Minnesota is going to see six young women murdered in barely a year and retain its police force.
Nope. I've had enough. Can't overlook the flaws, and won't keep subjecting myself to a hero I can't like.
May Moore, 29, is a newly promoted Deputy Sheriff just settling into her new job. May has always lived in her older sister, Kerry’s shadow (a successful FBI agent). But the biggest thing they have in common is their sadness and grief over the disappearance of their younger sister, Lauren, which has become a cold case long ago.
When an after-the-prom party results in a brutally murdered young woman, a popular high school athlete who can’t remember what happened and a group of teenagers closing ranks, May is left with a case strikingly similar to that of her sister, Lauren. A second girl is murdered a few days later, leaving May in a position of having to rely on her big sister again for help. She is also realizing that her fellow deputy has feelings for her and she may have feelings for him.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it is the third in a series. The heroine was both a strong young woman and yet suffered from feelings of inadequacy, anxiety and self doubt whenever she was forced to deal with her sister. The sister dynamic was interesting and the mystery of the disappearance of the youngest sister was one of the most intriguing plot elements in the narrative. I was more interested in the background story of the missing sister than I was in the main story’s mystery. I do not anticipate reading any more of the series. I. would recommend with reservations to readers of mystery thrillers and crime genres.
This is a straight-forward, quick-paced, police thriller involving newish Deputy May Moore in a small Minnesota jurisdiction. After the after-prom party there are inebriated and hung over students and staff and at least one dead body. Deputy May takes the lead in the investigation.
This is an "easy-reader" book--it was a very quick read; it was very easy to follow. Except for obviously placed red herrings, there were few literary gimmicks (time shifts, point of view changes, etc.) to fluster the reader and vocabulary was not complex. The lack of a level of detail, complexity, and development made it an OK read, but far from a satisfying read for me. Many times I considered a dreaded DNF.
So hooked on this series! Between the sister dynamic between May and Kerry along with the mystery of their missing sister Lauren, I am dying to know what happened! In this installment we start to see May get more confident in her abilities and stepping outside of the shadow of Kerry, while also starting to develop and realize feelings for Owen and a life of her own past her family’s expectations. I feel like I live for the end of the book where we get a little snippet of Lauren’s disappearance and the potential of a break in her case, and I find that I like that more than the actual mystery of the book itself. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is the 3rd book in the series....the writing is getting quite a bit predictable with the same 'story' in 2 of the first 3 AND (caution:: spoiler), at the end of this one deputy May is ina hard fight without her gun, she hides in the woods with the young girl, AND ALL THE TIME SHE HAS A PHONE??? That's right, once she gets the suspect in cuffs after defying death, THEN she pulls her phone out to call her partner!!! When I got to that I was like....come on....why didn't she call while hiding in the woods, or after almost being run over by the ATV? Or when the suspect takes off for his cabin???
An excellent story, where the crimes perpetrated are horrific, the culprit is believable and his reasons are related to a really sick mind. May, however, seems to be less negatively self-conscious and is opening her mind to other sorts of thoughts about life, her reasons for having her job, and to make fewer comparisons with her sister. She finally realized that not even her sister is perfect! I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
May gets a call that a female student has been murdered at the post-prom party. While questioning a suspect the chief informs May & Owen there is another murdered girl & thinks this may be a serial killer. This is another page turning, can't wait to find out what happens book. Can't wait for the next in this series! Love all Blake Pierce books!
I chose this rating because I love all his books. It’s almost at the end b-4 you know who done it. I like trying to figure out who done it. I would recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries. Good reading!
Another great example of her writing that grabs and keeps you interest to the very end. Just a few turns here and there to keep you wondering and help find the truth! Loved it!
Excellent Excellent Book. This book should be a ten star book this is one terrific series and can not wait for the next book to come out I highly recommend this book to everyone Dorothy Schaefer
