Monroe Doctrine #7

Monroe Doctrine: Volume VII

Rate this book
The walls were closing in…

…time was running out.

The unthinkable had occurred.

As defeats mounted, desperation took hold. Project Terracotta was complete. Jade Dragon now had a body—and an army. All that stood between certain defeat and potential victory was a final decision: one that would alter the course of humanity.

Could the human mind outfox an AI?

Had Jade Dragon truly become unstoppable?

The battle for Taiwan hung on a razor’s edge. NATO scrambled to stop another Dunkirk in the south of the island while the Marines fought for every inch of ground in the north. Had the allies finally bitten off more than they could chew or were these the final death throes of the PLA Army?

A devil’s deal was revealed.

An alliance was destabilized.

The coalition must hold, no matter the costs. The fate of humanity depended on learning from the past, conquering the present, and ensuring the future. A war at all costs couldn’t mean the end of tomorrow. An alternative had to be found.

You’ll love the seventh book in this intense military technothriller series because science-fiction may become our reality.

Get it now.

This was another book series by James Rosone and Miranda Watson, an exciting author team that I was turned onto by a Facebook group, Military Thriller Book Group.

It was while I was reading the first series of theirs (Red Storm (aka Battlefield)), that I was in touch with one of the authors, James Rosone, and he mentioned "The Monroe Doctrine", as he mentioned that he was looking for beta-readers for the sixth book in the series (and he wanted his beta-readers to at least have some familiarity with the characters in the series). This is the seventh book of the series (six of which I have read) and may have had a small hand in helping edit.

The story is a continuation of a series that is concentrated on the importance of the development of Artificial Intelligence by the Chinese ("Jade Dragon") and the wargaming until a winning scenario and strategy have been created with the penultimate goal of defeating all potential opponents (the United States, NATO, Russia, and the other countries).

Jade Dragon continues its grand plans utilizing subterfuge (ghost attacks on US military bases and strategic targets), and political deepfakes (where incriminating videos of political figures are created and disseminated to the state powers that are currently sitting on the fence). Now, the Chinese Artificial Intelligence juggernaut, Jade Dragon, has elevated its combat prowess by introducing a physical presence in the form of Project Terracota - a nearly unstoppable bipedal combat body - to the conflict in Taiwan. The fate of humanity depended on learning from the past, conquering the present, and ensuring the future.

All things considered, I believe that this book would be easily enjoyed by any reader who enjoys modern warfare, politics, and submarines.

I enjoyed this novel and would easily rate this book an easy five stars out of five stars.

As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.

Book Review – Monroe Doctrine, Volume VII – James Rosone and Miranda Watson

“Monroe Doctrine, Volume VII” by husband and wife writing team of James Rosone and Miranda Watson, is the continuation story – book seven in the eight-book series – that is concentrated on the importance of the development of Artificial Intelligence by the Chinese – their Jade Dragon initiative. This AI enterprise is about the wargaming between the United States, China, NATO, Russia, and other countries. In this volume, Jade Dragon continues its imposing plans on ghost attacks on US military bases and strategic targets. The Chinese Artificial Intelligence juggernaut has elevated its combat prowess by introducing a physical presence in the form of Project Terracota - a nearly unstoppable Terminator-like combat robotic to fight in Taiwan. This action-packed, advanced military wartime story moved along nicely, and the ‘tag-team’ writing duet explains everything well enough so I could follow along without missing a beat. Riveting action, political intrigue, and advanced scientific military weaponry, all combined, made this entry into the series a thrilling and entertaining read. I’m impressed with the authors’ modern warfare creativity, geopolitical incorporation, submarine, tanks, and military weaponry knowledge and details. Although this narrative ends with a lot of tension, struggles and uncertainty around Artificial Intelligence, it’s a good, smart read with a scary premise that presents some real possible realities. Another well done chronicle in the Monroe Doctrine series by Rosone and Watson.

Rosone and Watson again deliver a fast-paced story that is as strongly written as their previous stories but this installment is beginning to show signs of fatigue. First the good. We finally get to see the Terracotta terminators get into the action and the authors deliver. How they operate in combat engagements comes off as realistic and interesting. Well done! The AI Jade Dragon was also done well. I like how they've made a conscious effort to develop the AI's thinking and personality from something immature and one-dimensional into a character that has its own interesting thoughts and motivations. It will be interesting to see how they conclude this character.

The not as good. Like others have mentioned, the various battles are losing their grand punch. Other than the scene that featured the Terracotta warriors, I felt like I had already read the scenes that were playing out as the Americans advanced across Taiwan and China. And maybe it's just me, but in the past two books, I've found the dialogue between the various military people sounds like it's been pulled out of an Army recruiting commercial. In the grand scheme, it's not a big thing, but I wanted to flag it for any non-US readers/listeners.

In conclusion, it's a solid listen and if you've enjoyed the earlier books, you'll definitely like this volume. I'm looking forward to a strong finish in volume 8 which is the final book of this epic WWIII series.

The Yanks win again.!!!

Great writing is sometimes confusing with so many characters and military acronyms but despite that these last 7 volumes have been bloody great reading. The military accuracy is on point, the depictions of war the Whitehouse Beijing absolutely current.
My only critism is that this is a volume of WW3 NATO &CHINA.
BUT throughout the 7 volumes the British armed forces are never mentioned we have German Polish French the Italians Australian armed forces even the friggin Spanish! .…. But the British mentions are a platoon of paratroopers hitching a lift on Abraham's tanks HMS Glasgow and the Royal marines getting chopped up on the beaches of Venezuela and these were just passing comments the whole novel series is very Hollywierd written like the Yanks win everything and save the world everyone else are mere amateurs and not worth the mention.
For instance did you know (and I study military tactics and history too) that the Royal Norwegian Navy uses diesel electric subs these are hunter killers and in exercise sink every American and British naval asset they are pitted against... they're good....no mention of their use seeking Chinese subs not one British nuclear sub went to war nor the RAF SAS SBS the damned yanks were all over this world war.... what's the point of NATO.
But these bones of contention aside great well written war story.

Another excellent entry into the Monroe Doctrine series!

James and Miranda have done it again!

As the story marches onward toward the conclusion, James and Miranda have given us another winner. Riveting action, political intrigue and scientific advancements combine into a thrilling entry into the series!

The TKs make their deadly appearance to terrifying result. While the allies appear to be heading toward victory, the results are far from certain while Jade Dragon has a say. It has plans of it's own and will not be easily stopped.

Highly recommend this book in particular and the series as well.

The longer this series drags on, the lower my rating, I'm afraid. I'm wondering whether it was written with AI assist. These books bring to mind the Tom Clancy thrillers from the 1980s, starting with "The Hunt for Red October"; in that I love the details and nomenclature, the descriptions of the gear and troops in action, but by volumn VII, the minute details and strategies, repeats of combat sequences, the banter of the different groups of troops and political operatives is just getting old. Let's wrap this up already so I can move on to something less long-winded!

Clancy always managed to find a balance between action and suspense, strategy and tactics that never bogged down. Mr. Rosone would do well to study his methods.

The wait was dreadful has each book escalates the war more.

In actuality getting the books didn’t really get into it. The story was flushed with too many new chacthers to really bound with. An then we get conflict zones, but no maps to go along with made hard to get a fill for the land make required to look up areas or go off memory from other similar novels. In the end this made just get threw the book so I wouldn’t stop.

VII- Monroe Doctrine

Enjoyed the read. Seemed a tad pendantic when go through battles, seemed a bit repetitive. The various threads were enjoyable, will wait to see how they resolve. Wonder which side USA or China will implode because of hunger first. Battlefield adaptation is key, so await for the US to field robotic weapons of China’s scale. Not Heinlein’s Three Laws of Robotics as was raised.

Another great book of the Monroe Doctrine series. I really liked how the authors were able to incorporate the author Ryan Schow into the book as a brief character. The battle is coming down to the final offensive and the Allies look like they are on the verge of victory. The Allies have a number of spies in place in China that get important information back to the Allies from within China. Anticipating the final book of the series.

A good exercise for the mind

I often look back to the writings of Jules Verne, 20,000 leagues Under the Sea, and From the Earth to the Moon which was an uncanny fore telling of the future to come, writen in the 19th century. Likewise this series tells of a future that is scary for its abject brutality, riveting story telling, great read. I would only hope they could type faster!

Reality put into Words

I Like The kindle version because I can change text size. This volume was spell binding in its descriptions of what areal life war would be. I like that it depicted both a ground force war as well as a naval based war. Held my attention until I finished the volume vii. Anxiously waiting for volume viii.

AS always, superb!! I cannot wait for the next in the series, though, honestly, I don't want the series to end. It always takes me a chapter or two to get back into the full story, but once I do, I'm hooked and can't put the book down. Excellent writing and, as always, great character development. Thanks so much!!

Exciting Non Stop Action

All I can say is to start at the beginning of the series to fully appreciate Volume VII.
As usual, I am torn between wanting to read this beginning to end as fast as possible. And, wanting to make it last and savor each page…
A fun, action packed read, and one you will want to put on your list soon.
Can’t wait for the last book in the series!

This book fits well in the series. While there are a few typographical and grammatical errors, overall the story is fast moving and written well. This particular installment is the run up to the final chapter (Vol VIII is coming). Would definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning.

Great reading.

Each chapter keeps your interests up and guessing what next. The technical aspects are superb and very plausible. I spent 32 yrs in the Army from enlisted to LTC and the descriptions in combat were extremely accurate.

great but I need visual aid

I love the books but I can’t keep the geography visually correct. I end up skimming some of the locational stuff which degrades the impact of the story. I know it would be time consuming but I’d kill for periodic maps.
