Blood on his lips. Power in his touch. A maelstrom in his eyes.

The Prince, an Old One, High Lord of House Montague, is fixated on claiming me. The weight of his grip crushes my throat, and resistance is . . . well.

Futile.

I am Aerinne Capulette, last daughter of Faronne, and survival forces me to accept he killed my mother, that he will drag me to his bed fighting and cursing as he laughs.

But I will not accept the subjugation of my House, my family, my friends. If any blood coats my hands, it will be his.

My unknown power stirs, and with it a glimmer of understanding. Of course he wants me for more than my body. For why am I the only person in the city who can see the shape of his power?

Renaud is power. He plays the long game.

. . .and if you wish to walk the board as queen, and not as pawn, you will play it too, my halfling.

I have said you have no choice. You anchor my sanity.

I have also said I will make you strong enough to bear me. You have noted the storm gathering on the horizon? Scented smoke and crushed blooms in the air?

Yes. A danger that eclipses us both approaches.

I will destroy you before I allow you to be taken. I do not yield what is mine.

But. . .if you submit, it may not come to such a pass. Your darkness may yet rise stronger than my own.

Give yourself to me, and I will give you answers. And then, my halfling, I will teach you to rule.

Blood On His Lips is an adult high heat, dark romantic fantasy, second in the Fae Prince of Everenne series. This not a standalone and ends in a cliffhanger. Book one must be read first.

For readers who crave enemies-to-lovers, obsessed dark heroes, murderous heroines, a battle of dark wills and enjoy authors such as Jennifer L. Armentrout, Michelle Sagara, Kathryn Ann Kingsley, and Laura Thalassa.

Overall: 3.5 rounded to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot/Storyline: 📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥
Humor: Not much
Perspective: First person perspective from both hero and heroine’s heads (though more in the heroine’s)

(These are all personal preference on a scale of 1-5 (yours ratings may vary depending what gives you feels and how you prefer you sex scenes written, etc) except the Steam Scale which follows our chart from A Love Less Ordinary )

Should I read in order?
Yes! Don’t just jump into this one. Read book 1, Night in His Eyes, first.

Basic plot:
We step into this novel right on the heels of book 1. Renaud is still bent on claiming and training Aerinne. War hovers among the clans. And there’s hints of evil abound where Aerinne and Renaud must band together to defeat it.

Give this a try if you want:
- You’ve read book 1 – don’t jump in here!
- You’re okay with another cliffhanger ending
- Fantasy world with fae and human aspects
- The main focus is on the characters, their relationship and the action that happens to them. The world building is a bit weak in these
- Medium steam - 2-3 scenes

Ages:
- Heroine is 27, hero is 10,000 + year old fae

My thoughts:
Conflicted about this one! I really loved the first half – it carried a lot of the same momentum and sexual tension I adored in book 1. But the second half was a bit confusing and I was a bit angry with the characters choices, especially Renaud.

My volume did have a bonus chapter 1 from book 3 at the end and that really did mollify me a bit from my problems in the ending. So I could possibly forgive these things when I read book 3.

Overall I am pretty into this series and cannot wait to read the next one. I do wish the world building was a bit more complete. I feel like we are only getting the barest crumbs of details of a lot of these aspects to the fantasy world – the avatars, the skills, etc so I’m really hoping there are more details as the other books come out (I am not sure how long this series is planned to be)

So I do love the tension between Aerinne and Renaud, I like the darkness feel of their relationship, I even like the battle scenes and political intrigue. I just want more explained and hopefully we will get that in the next book.

Potentially, better than a Sarah J. Maas book.

Quote:

“I took a deep breath. Arguing with the Prince, particularly here and now, would do my House no good. But I had to try. “Everenne does, in fact, have a judicial process.”

His fingertips brushed my cheek, leaving a shiver of sensation under my skin. His eyes were cold, so cold, as yielding as the stones of his palace but strangely gentle. “I am the judicial process, its root, and its canopy.”

I can`t contain my excitement towards this particular type of portraying a romantic relationship in dark fantasy. It is as if I have finally found my Holly Grail with this author/these authors.

It is as if they understood that fantasy in particular, and books in general, is a medium for creating safe spaces for metaphors to be developed and explored, for ideas to be bent, flared into mind spectacles and for emotions to be tickled and teased to the limits.

The book is very smartly constructed. We know that the attention is on this couple and we march with them onwards. But, at the same time, we are privy to the context in which they battle their desires: they are the rulers of kingdoms/nations/realms. They are imbued with menacing and astounding power. And above all else, they have cravings and impulses while being almost god-like figures.

I like how unabashed this book was in exploring lust, and any sorts of cravings in general. More so, that the writing has been done in such an elegant manner—it will take me a long time to recover from the style in which the language was used—intelligent dialogues, dainty turns of phrases, and sharp contrasts. It seared my mind. It kinda ruined me for any other romance, I would pick up soon.

I don`t know when book three is coming out (I hope soon and I hope it will be on par with the two already released), but I hope this series will be never-ending because it has SO MUCH potential.

It has been such a long time since I have stumbled upon a book/author(s) that I could wholeheartedly say they have a great potential.

Quote: “Love? The abyss that flickered at the edges of my mind was too deep, too dark for mere love. This was madness, this was a need. This was the beginning of an entwining that once formed would have his heart beating for mine, and my lungs taking in air for his.”

It was great and can't wait for the next chapter. At the beginning it can be a bit confusing if you hadn't read the chapter before but it is so good as you read the story unfolding making you want to keep going. The emotions and action packed story of these characters is non stop.

Theirs is a dark and brutal world with no sympathy or mercy for the weak. With that being said, know that there are some scenes in this book that could be triggering for some. This chapter in Aerinne and Renaud’s story digs deep into the dynamic between them. And there are several revelations that change the shape of everything Aerinne believed about her world. Where this book leaves off has me absolutely rabid to find out what will happen next.

Still can't make up my mind

This moves as slow as a glacier at times but throws just enough at you to keep turning the pages. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue, I may as I'm hoping to see the land of where the ancients reside. I wish there was more plot, I feel as if not much is happening but very slowly we are fed Information, bits and pieces here and there to move us along and the main character still grates but I guess I've gotten use to her. I hate being so indisiscive.

I’m just gonna bow out on this series. Book 1 was low key torture for me; it dragged on and on with no real forward movement, but I did enjoy the MCs. Book 2, I’m equally annoyed and disappointed. Somehow this one felt like it was moving and not moving simultaneously. It’s action packed (I guess), but how long does a fight scene between Houses truly need to go on for the reader to get it? The whole first half of the book felt pointless- truly the 49% mark was when our MCs did more than hold hands or look across the room at each other. It seemed like the story was going to pick up but nope, not really. We finally get some chapters from Renaud’s POV but it hardly gave insight to anything, and they were only in the first half. When things really started picking up it’s around the 80% mark and it’s still nothing crazy, because everyone is so cryptic and treats Aerinne like a child instead of telling her what’s really going on. She FINALLY gets some information to move the story forward only for all autonomy to be ripped from her by Renaud, the person who claims to love her the most?? The final 10-15% is Aerinne being totally humiliated and debased and sexually assaulted?? But she enjoys it??? And it’s all under the guise of teaching her a lesson on having “visible weaknesses” aka caring for the people in her House, including her father??

Both books read like back to back filler episodes in a show you love that’s only 8 episodes long lol a complete waste of time! Tbh I’m more pissed about that than anything else.

Sighs at Aerinne

*****Spoilers*****

Much too short. Still interesting but also still can't quite like Aerinne. She's such a hypocrite sitting on her high horse all of a sudden. She can't stand the thought of killing but did so much of it herself and to Renaud's son, not to mention the whole "you lied to me by omission", kettle please meet pot here. I just can't with it when she finds out that Renaud is the voice in her head as well as her playmate when she was young. Still puzzling how that was even possible with him sleeping for centuries and she's only 27, maybe it's this whole realm thing that hasn't been explained. In any case, this book is a bunch of stuff that doesn't really move the story much, just Renaud trying to teach Aerinne lessons. Lessons that wouldn't be so hard if she weren't bafflingly stubborn and blinded to long term versus short term pettiness and nonsensical decisions. So frustrating it is to read from her perspective and especially when she doesn't make sense. Supposedly, she'll be monstrously powerful and we're working up to that but she's not mature enough I don't think for a being to be that powerful.

Intriguing & Dark

So Prince Renaud continues a Fae courting of Lady Aerinne. It involves a lot of corpses.

The rule is the older the Fae, the more powerful. More players are revealed. Renaud’s mother Nayya makes an appearance. She also has her own agenda. Everyone seems to be worried that an Ancient One is about to wake up. They all want to use Aerinne in some way.

It’s all very intriguing, but I’m not sure where it’s going. I’m hoping book 3 will tie all the loose ends together.

Warning: This book is very Dark. You will need a strong stomach.

Wow!!! Definitely a great addition to this amazing series. If I thought book one was great this one was on a whole another level. Full of intrigue with twists and turn that's going to keep you hooked from beginning to end. If you haven't read the first book in this series I totally recommend that you do since this book picks right up where book one ended without no re-hash FYI. I'm so looking forward to the new book in this series. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.

Aerinne's story continues as the prince stakes his claim stronger than ever. This book is better than the first and introduces new characters which indicate that there is more going on than we think. There is more 🌶️ in this book too but it is not a romantic choice. I feel uncomfortable with the relationship and hope they don't end up together

Powerful fantasy romance epic! This is the second book of a trilogy about the Fae Old One Renaud rising from his sleep and claiming Aerinne, Princess of Faronne. This is a must read! The author's writing style makes you forget you are only reading a story and not actually in the Fae world. The plot is engrossing and action packed, and the Fae world and all the characters are deeply crafted. The story of their relationship is intense combined with court intrigue and politics specific to the Fae people. I enjoyed reading the points of view of the main characters and seeing the story through their eyes. This book is a little darker than the first book in the series. I'm looking forward to reading the last book in the trilogy and finding out how all ends. These books must be read in order. The beginning of book two takes place just after the last scene in book one.

Blood On His Lips is the 2nd book in the Fae Prince of Everenne series. It is a adult high heat, dark romantic fantasy as it states in the description. Having said that, the book is full of intrigue with twists and turns and keeps you turning the pages (or swiping the screen page!). If you have not yet read the 1st book though, Night In His Eyes, read that first. You do need to read these in order, as this book picks up right where the first book left off without a “re-hash” of the 1st book. Renaud is determined that he will have Aerinne and nothing will dissuade him. She is determined he must pay as her mother’s killer (no matter that he did not mean to kill her). Yet, he is The Prince and an Old One, it is dangerous and nearly impossible to deny him. More is at stake here and there are new challenges for both of them. The book(s) are well written and keep you interested. It is an adult “high heat” book and is a little darker than the first, but very worth the read.

Wow. This one will wet you down and wring you out. Aerinne does not know which way is up anymore. It starts with an attack as she is leaving Prince Renaud's castle following their first "date," but attacked by whom? Even Renaud can't seem to determine that. Apparently, Aerinne has powerful enemies, or are they his enemies? Renaud needs to protect her until she is stronger, but he is losing his grip. On her, on his own subjects, on his sanity. Then, his mother shows up and exposes his careful machinations. What will happen now that Aerinne's eyes have been opened? Nothing good, that's for sure. Blood is going to fill the streets.

Even if my suspicion about Darkan proof right, for the moment I can’t relish in the knowledge. I am too much at the edge. Bloody nightmare to have to wait for the next book! Hopefully Arienne finds her strength, her way out of her self imposed prison, the force to stand up against the ancient rising, and the force to survive. And Renaud ? Hopefully he finds his love.
Don’t start this book in the evening because you won’t get any sleep! And please pretty please don’t read this as a standalone. You’ll be lost after two chapters and this work merits a reader who understands the story ! So, with those precautions taken, enjoy your read !

Aerinne is realizing just how terrifying having the Prince obsessed with her truly is, especially when she discovers that he seems to feel it necessary to completely take over her life. Unfortunately, in her refusal to let him subjugate herself and her people to him could unleash an even greater evil on the world.
Wow, I love these characters. They're well written, compelling, and unique. The interactions between The characters is absolutely fascinating. Violence, bloody battles, magic, and some surprising twists in the plot are all in this steamy and dark romance which made it hard to put this book down. I think this is a fantastic, must read book and series.

The story continues with Aerinne picking up new powers and learning more about her past. But the senseless fighting and deaths continue. The houses fight for reasons they do not even remember. The awakened Prince Renaud mows through countless individuals leaving a wake of death behind him. All of this to teach lessons to Aerinne. Lessons neither her, her house, nor any of the other houses seem to be learning. I guess when you can live for hundreds of thousands of centuries it takes a while for lessons to gel. And now they have attracted the attentions of even older Fae and an older Ancient Fae is awakening. And no one wants her awake.

Epic fantasy romance, I was capitavated. Continues from events of book one. Enjoyed this book as it concentrates more on Aerinne and Renauds relationship whereas the first book was setting the scene with the world building. Love the mixtures of culture in the book too. Love the main characters interactions with each other, Renauld is a total alpha- unashamedly posssive. Fast paced and steamy. Some surprising twists and turns here but I my instincts about who darkan was correct!

Can’t wait for book 3 and for some more answers.

Enough twists to keep you interested until the end.

Aerinne is hot-headed and impulsive. This gets her into all kinds of messes - killing Renaud’s son and making a vow to kill Renaud (which she is bound to do or die herself). Lots of mysteries surround her.

Renaud has been moving Aerinne in the direction he needs her to go from a young age without her knowing. He is handing out some tough lessons in order for her to develop into the woman he needs her to be by his side.

Their own people and his mother are making things harder. Looking forward to book 3 to see what comes.

This book has so much drama, suspense, and action throughout it. It has so much that happens in this one that it draws you in and doesn’t let go. I throughly enjoy Aerinne even if at times she is rash and doesn’t think but will act too quickly. I have mixed feelings for Renaud. I love how powerful he is but towards the end of this book he starts to confuse me. I hope all is cleared up in the next book. It is definitely one that I can not wait to see what happens next in. This definitely a must read and doesn’t disappoint.

This is the second book in the Fae Prince of Everenne series, it's a well-written, dark romantic fantasy which is full of intrigue, action and many twists and turns I didn't expect.

It follows on from Night In His Eyes so I strongly advise you to read that first as these books must be read in the correct order to fully understand the enjoyable storyline.

Renaud is determined to have Aerinne but she wants him to pay for her mother’s death even though it was unintentional. But he's an Old One and a Prince making it nearly impossible to deny him. This book is a little darker than the first but it's one I recommend.

This installment was darker than the first installment in this series. The heroine was stubborn as a mule and had a temper, which I found sympathetic and identified with. The hero was deliciously alpha in the romance novel sense. The world building was vivid and creative. There was plenty of action, danger, and political intrigue to keep the stakes high throughout and the pacing quick. I read this book in one sitting. The development of the romantic relationship was swoony and hot. I look forward to seeing where this series goes next. Highly recommended.

This books picks up seamlessly from the cliff at the end of book one. I enjoy a good Dark Fae Story and this series totally fits that spot. This story is steamy which I love and enjoyed. Aerinne and Renaud work well together and as I will be waiting at this next cliff for book three, I loved everything about this story!!! Must Read! No Spoilers, although I really want to give them, It would ruin the experience.

Finally, Arienne is learning who she is and what dangers are heading her way. Renaud in his special brand of crazy tries to prepare her but with the crazy family ties and limited time to prepare, things blow up big. I did say Renaud was a special kind of crazy. This book lays the foundation for the next by setting all the players on the board and revealing some secrets that were previously hinted at in the first book. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

If possible Aerinne becomes even more insufferable and Renaud becomes even more swoony. Aerinne's still a cowardly hypocrite with no sense of self awareness who still refuse to confess her crimes. She's still a shitty leader who still runs her mouth and gets her house into trouble. The Renaud twist was obvious from a couple of chapters in the first book but of course Aerinne needs it spelt out for her.

TLDR: Aerinne is still too stupid to live, Renaud continues to be the only redeeming feature of the series.

The dark prince Aerinne escaped from. An attack on the carriage. Outnumbered. Wounded badly. A healer. A very possessive prince. An avatar. Traitors. A treaty. Poison. A steamy sauna. A faire. A fight. Deaths. A mother and father appear. Her majesty. A mind breaking. Negotiation. Bodies everywhere. A prince on a rampage. An ancient One. AND a cliffhanger! Darn. Can't wait to see what happens next. The imagination of this author is out of this world.
