He's too much trouble. When Vi picks Leland Rowe up after he's spent a night in a jail cell, she knows he's trouble. He's the last man she wants as a bodyguard. But her coven leader insists. Their coven needs protection and Rowe is the man for the job. One thing's certain, she won't fall for the infuriating shifter. He's riding the edge of danger and dancing with a death wish. He can't be her mate.
She's a brazen witch. Rowe's wolf stands at attention the second he sees Vi, and that's not the only thing standing. She makes him feel things he's never felt before, and though she riles him up, he wants to leave his mark on her. Forever. He's seen two of his packmates meet their mates. Is it his turn?
He'll never have a chance to find out if he can't keep her safe from a rival coven. Rowe is no match against magic, but he'll find a way to do the job. No matter the cost. He's finally found someone worth living for, but he'll have to risk it all to keep her.
There was so much potential for this novel, but it was too fast paced. Everything just felt rushed, there wasn't enough time to get to know the characters or enough build up for the story. The romance felt forced and unnatural, it doesn't feel like true love. I wish there was some angst and suspense to the storyline, without it things fell flat. I really wanted to like this novel but I wasn't able to immerse myself into the story or care for the characters.
***I would like to thank BookSirens and Kate Rudolph (the author) for graciously providing a copy of the novel for me to read & review.***
This is the third book in the series and the author does not disappoint. She brings strong characters and weaves another adventurous story with the wolves and their mates. This one is Rowe and Vi's story. Realizing she's his mate ,he'll do whatever he has to to keep her safe. It's an entertaining story with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I was in a bit of a reader's slump when I started this book. I had a hard time getting into it at first (at no fault to the author) but once I got into it I couldn't put it down. This is book three in a series, I have read book one but not book two, I do think you can read this book as a standalone you just won't understand the backstory of some of the characters but that doesn't make the story confusing.
In this book we are introduced to Rowe and Vi. I loved these characters. Rowe is a bit of a mess trying to figure out where he is in his life. In fact, when Vi first meets him, it happens to be in a police station from being in a bar fight. Vi is much more put together, she is a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man in her life, especially one that seems to be surrounded by trouble. But we also learn that Vi is also trying to find herself and just maybe they are the answer to each other's questions. Rowe is a bodyguard to a coven of witches who will be meeting with a rival coven of witches. Vi is part of the coven Rowe is hired to protect. As one can expect when rival covens get together chaos will ensue. The question is will they solve the puzzle before it is too late.
It was so much fun watching Rowe and Vi develop their relationship and to see how they navigated the crazy situations that seemed to plague them at each turn. This book was fun but leaves us with a few questions and I can't wait to find out the answers. I wouldn't consider this a cliff hanger though. I really look forward to hearing the stories of the rest of the crew, especially Gibson.
** I received this book as an ARC from the author. This is an honest review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own. **
I didn’t expect much new in a shifter mate’s romance, but I have to say, this series does offer a few surprises! Rowe hasn’t been a shifter long. No one in his “pack” has, and none of them really know what’s going on. Shifters have always been born or turned from a bite. Rowe and the others were soldiers, abducted and turned by a powerful sorcerer. They were then left to their own devices, no training, no rules, no history, not even an explanation for why they were turned. Since then, they’ve been establishing a security firm. Two of Rowe’s friends have found their mates, and if it weren’t for them he’d have had no clue as to why a brief meeting with a condescending witch was turning him inside out. He still doesn’t really believe in mates though. Neither does Vi when that brief encounter leaves her feeling jealous and possessive of Rowe. After traveling the country with her friends’s band she’s enjoying being home and settling back into her coven, not looking for trouble. And Rowe is clearly Trouble. There’s some tension between the two, some romance and some sexy time too. There’s a mystery to solve with someone or something killing witches and creating magic monsters in the woods. It sounds crazy but it’s a lot of fun. I really liked the main characters and look forward to getting to know the others throughout the series. I hope that we learn more about how and why these shifters were created, and by whom. I’m terrible at waiting for answers, so that was my primary complaint about this book. It was entertaining and engaging and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Full disclosure, I read a free advance review copy of this book but my review is completely honest and voluntary.
This was an entertaining addition to the series, thoroughly enjoyed I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I am sure that like myself you will be totally engrossed by the characters and the plot and I am sure that you will be the same as myself and be engrossed and like me unable to put the book down until you reach the end. Vi picked up Leyland Rowe after he had been in jail, when he is appointed as her bodyguard, she is very unsure however her coven leader will not take no for an answer. Rowe may be the shifter for the job however there is not going to be any chance of the circumstances changing, he will not allow this to happen. Rowe cannot help it when his wolf is so obviously totally enamoured in Vi and that is not the only thing it also seems that she has feelings she has never before known and this man is extremely happy because he wants to ensure that this packmates will think when they meet his new mate. Rowe may not be able to deal with the magic however, he is a very inventive and will ensure that now that he has found someone that he loves and cares for so deeply. He is now willing to risk everything to ensure he keeps her safe and happy. I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
My favourite pack of accidental Shifters are back! Their trials and tribulations are racking up. It's hard being a Shifter and knowing absolutely nothing about the world into which you have landed. They've picked up bits and pieces along the way but their knowledge is sorely lacking!
Vi has met the pack before as she was part of Em's road crew. She knows that they are just the "muscle" her coven needs when her leader reaches out to her about a business meeting with a neighbouring coven. She didn't expect to pick up Rowe from the local jail though!
Leyland may be a reprobate but he can't abide seeing a woman be manhandled - hence the night in jail. Vi may be all prickly with him but she came to them for help, not the other way around. He's not exactly happy that he's being babysat by the "baby" of the pack either!
Things quickly go from bad to worse as relations between the covens sour and then someone starts bumping off coven members. Rowe may be "ignorant" according to his fellow Shifter but rival security team but what he lacks in knowledge he makes up for in instinct.
Plenty to keep you happy with mates being found, coven politics, and maybe even a little hint at who is behind the pack's forced change!
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy and this review is my own opinion and left of my own volition.
Leland Rowe was made a wolf shifter by magic when he and some other Army personnel were captured and experimented on by sorcerers. They are now out of the military and in their own pack providing security for hire. Rowe has just finished a mission and is tense and restless. He jumps on his motorcycle during rush hour and weaves in and out of the vehicles on the road, illegally riding down the shoulder when he had no other way to get past them. He was laughing and having a good time. He lost the cop and rode to his favorite bar. He was playing darts with a woman when the bouncer, who evidently had been dating her, tried to force her to come back to him. Rowe stepped in to protect her and a fight started.
A coven of witches hires the security team to provide protection for a meeting with a rival coven. Vi is asked by the coven leader to pick up Rowe who has spent a night in jail and bring him and the rest of the security team to their meeting. Vi does not want Rowe as their bodyguard, but she has no choice. The man seems to have a death wish! But what will she do when she finds out she is his mate? Can he convince her that he can straighten out and keep her safe and happy with him?
One-line synopsis - Ex-military wolf shifter (turned shifter through nefarious means) and his pack, are hired by a coven of witches as bodyguards for a meeting with another coven at a forest retreat and meets his mate (a witch) while trying to discover who is using dark magic and trying to hurt the covens.
I wanted to like this one more than I did because the idea and story were actually pretty fun, but I couldn’t identify with the characters, everything happened too quickly, and the flow and delivery seemed off.
Also, I was a bit aggravated by how inept the characters seemed at points. Like I know that the shifter bodyguards were at a disadvantage because they couldn’t practise magic but they honestly seemed almost useless at points, and it did not seem like they had any military training whatsoever despite previously being a military unit! And why is it that Julian is almost frantic looking for Nora at one point and then all of a sudden she is just there when they go to her cabin!!!!
Anyways, despite its flaws, I am giving it a 3 because the story still felt unique despite the number of shifter books out there.
Thank you to BookSirens and Kate Rudolph for the ARC I received and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
I received this copy for free. (ARC reader). I am voluntary leaving this review. I have to say for a Sy-fi romance it was really good. First time I believe reading anything from Kate Rudolph. The book had a lot of action, shifters, wolves, controlled bears, witches.
A little bit about this book. Leland Rowe and his alpha Jericho Gibson and the rest of their pack aren’t just regular shifters they are something more. Vi is a witch and she is in a coven she just got back from touring with Mercy who’s rock stars, her leader Rosalie keeps on going on about having VI’s friend Andre get his shifter friends to help keep them safe during a meeting with another coven leader Audia Palmer for finding died bodies on their land that aren’t just human some are animals. Rowe and Vi meet at first she thinks he’s trouble. He thinks she’s hot and has a pull towards her.
Trust me so much going on in this book you’ll love the romance part and finding out what happens between the two covens at their meeting. I couldn’t put it down a really good read and doesn’t drag and make you lose interest.
This is the third book in a series and I read the first but have not read the second so I knew Rowe but not Vi. These books are different in that the shifters are newly turned and not the typical “He’s been a shifter forever and she didn’t know they exist” that most of these books are. Another twist is that she’s a witch. Hmmm. Interesting, isn’t it?
Vi and Rowe are great characters and I really enjoyed reading their story. I will admit it took a bit to warm to Vi but I’ve heard if I had read book two I wouldn’t have been that way so even though it’s a stand alone, and you can 100% read it by itself, reading the first two books before do make it better. Since the first book is free, why not give it a go? I’m hoping there will be more to the series. Kate is a great writer and I love her alien romances as well.

While Vi and Leland were likeable characters, for some reason I just could not connect with them or get myself immersed in this story like I normally do with this authors work. This story continues with the man-made shifter/werewolves as they discover more about themselves and other similar creatures.
Vi is a pretty independent witch-woman. Leland comes across at times like a big horny kid, but he does pull it together when he needs too. Together the two of them seem to have a good balance where they can bounce ideas off of each other.
All of the infighting and melodrama from the other shifters and witches just made for at times a confusing read, which is probably one of the reasons for my disconnect.
I keep hoping that we get more info about how Leland and his band of other man-made shifters came about, but so far it’s slow going.

This one is a definite read, it's quick spicy filled with an actual plot you can follow and wrapped up in the other stories that surround this story.
Both the FMC and MC are impactful characters with colorful histories. Where Rowe is a little bit of a loose canon a little bit on edge. Vi is steady and definitely in control of her life, when you're looking at her from the outside in.
Their love story is one for the books(lol), they both DO NOT want to be mates or bound together but fate has other plans and fate keeps pushing and pushing until the two of them have little option but give in. The spice when it strikes is right on time, not quite five alarm fire but definitely leaves a little flavor on your tongue.
Would recommend if you're not looking for the traditional shifter, witch romance because this book is anything but predictable.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had never heard of this series or author. It would have helped if I read the previous two books. I felt like I jumped into the middle of a conversation.
Rowe is a werewolf shifter. His military unit was kidnapped and magically made into shifters. That is an idea I've never heard used. The new "pack" was clueless about what they could do and even what it was to meet their mates. I really enjoyed how little they knew. They had to ask other shifters and witches.
In this book, Rowe meets his mate, Vi. She is a witch that is part of a coven that he and his pack is hired to protect during a meeting with another coven. The book got better as the action increased but it left questions that make me want to read the next book to see if they are answered. It's not really a cliffhanger. Just GOTTA know!!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I will say that I missed some stuff because I haven’t read the other books in the series, so there were obviously returning characters and plot points that I wasn’t familiar with. Despite that, I was still able to follow what was happening in the book. It was well paced and I really enjoyed all the characters. Vi was cool, but I really would love to have seen her character fleshed out more. I would love to have learned more about her growing up as a witch and how her relationship with her aunt was. However, I am aware that I am probably missing information that could have been in previous books. I loved the mystery, and it drew me in to be invested in the outcome. I’m absolutely dying to see how this all turns out. Great book and I’m looking forward to reading more.
I just read this and it felt like a lot was missing from this book. Witch Vi and wolf shifter Rowe were cute together without a whole lot of fighting their attraction- Yay! BUT, (and it's a Big But) I went back and checked if I'd read the first two books and I had!!! I have no memory of them! None! Even after reading my reviews of them nothing clicked. This book leaves us with a lot of questions that I assume will continue through to the end of the series. Not sure if I'll keep reading? On the one hand, I want to know what happened to all of them in the first place, and if they're more than just shifters, but on the other do I want to have to keep reminding myself about the previous unforgettable books just to find out? This would've been better as a set, or read consecutively, then I hopefully wouldn't forget them after reading each of them. Disappointed.
This was an amazing book and the characters made it that much more enjoyable that I read it all in one sitting. Vi is a witch and needs a bodyguard and her coven leader has sent her to pick up Leland Rowe who is a wolf shifter from jail because he is perfect for the job but what she never expected was to find her mate in this man and she is not sure about how to move forward or if she should. Leland Rowe lives a dangerous life having nothing to live for until he meets Vi a witch who needs a bodyguard because of a rival coven and straight away his wolf knows she is his mate and he will do anything to keep her safe but he’s no sure how to do this with magic involved. Can Leland keep her safe and have a future together or does he fail. If you want to know what happens next you’ll have to get this book.
What started as a wolf that simply wanted to do his job and figure out how he came about took a hard left into magic. Stalking Magic is the 3rd in the series and while it can be read as a stand alone, it's best read after the first two to better understand where Rowe is coming from. Vi was also introduced to us in the second book and I feel that I wouldn't have trusted her as much had I not read that first.
Vi and Rowe are on a rollercoaster to figure out both their attraction and the magic that surrounds them before anyone else gets hurt. There is a lot of action and a number of twists to keep you guessing at the directions. I enjoyed trying to track everything through the story. There were enough characters and threads to allow for the next book without leaving the ending wanting. I'm looking forward to book 4 already.
Leland is a created wolf, made so through magic. He and his fellow soldiers have formed a pack and now run a business providing private security. He and Vi do not meet under the best of circumstances but he has been hired to protect her. Each are dealing with their own issues, Leland being relatively new to the whole shifter thing and Vi with her magic. The chemistry between the two is not something that will be denied but Vi does not exactly trust Leland. Can Leland convince her that he is at a place in his life where he is able and willing to change and settle down? There is a sinister force after Vi so Leland may have his work cut out for him in more ways than one. I loved the characters and the story was fabulously written and very entertaining.

An action-packed, fated mates, werewolf bodyguard romance, Stalking Magic is a fun addition to an interesting shifter series. This third installment of the series features Rowe as the hero, and one of the pack’s new clients Vi—a witch—as the heroine. Rowe likes to make his own rules, and Vi lives by the rules of magic. Though the attraction is instant, the two butt heads at first. Combined with their powerful chemistry, the undeniable draw of their being mates, and the rising stakes as attacks come during the supposedly peaceful meeting between Vi’s coven and their long-time rival coven, there’s all kinds of fireworks between these two. I thoroughly enjoyed getting immersed in this world of shifters and magic. Rowe and Vi’s story is action-packed and fascinating, easy to get lost in. Looking forward to more from this world, and going back to check out Andre and Owen’s stories as well.
I felt a lot of different feelings while reading this book. Fear, anticipation, excitement, happiness, and all of it in one sitting! I couldn't put the book down!
Honestly, I don't like books with mystery cause I somehow find the unknown scarier than the known but I really liked Stalking Magic's plot. The fear I felt was replaced with anticipation of what would happen next and Kate Rudolph did not disappoint. I loved dual POV and getting to see how Vi and Rowe felt during the book was really fun.
I would have liked to have a bit more detail about Nora's situation but the way the book ended, seemed to open up an opportunity for Nora's own book.
I would definitely recommend the book for anyone that likes fantasy romance and mystery.

This was a hard book to rate, solely because this was my first book by the author. While you can absolutely enjoy it as a standalone, I feel like reading the previous books in the series would have added some fullness and background to the characters.
However, in this book the author wraps up the main conflict of the story, but leaves room for more, with lots of questions that I want answered!
It’s very descriptive and enjoyable, with great fight scenes, and the immediate insta love that you enjoy with fated mates.
I liked the chemistry between the characters, if anything a little more banter and scenes between them would be great, and add a bit of spark.
I enjoyed the book, and might start at the beginning of the series

A witch with secrets. A werewolf with trust issues. A betrayal that changes everything. Rowe (H) doesn’t trust witches . Vi (h) doesnt trust shifters . But when a dangerous coven meeting turns deadly, neither of them has a choice and they’re forced to work together. What should have been a simple security job turns into a nightmare, cursed creatures, missing witches, and a leader who isn’t what she seems. Then there’s them. His wolf says she’s his mate. She says that’s not happening. But when Rowe falls under a mind-control spell and Vi is lured into a deadly trap, the truth comes out, someone inside the coven has been pulling the strings. Rowe will fight anyone to get her back, but even after the battle is over, the question remains of who's behind it all. Fated mates. Dark magic. A mystery that runs deeper than they ever imagined.
This is the first book I have read in this series and it took me a little while to get into the story. You really need to read this book in sequence to the others. I loved the story once I figured out a little of what was going on, it began to make more sense. The author has created two strong characters, both Rowe and Vi, and I loved how they come together as a strong couple. Their love story was a great read on its own but the evil, that is in the background, is better understood if you start with the first book in this series. This being said, this is a great story worth reading and I would recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and are voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this action adventure story with shifters, witches witches and an evil force causing harm. Vi and Rowe each individually were each interesting characters with unique pasts on their own. It made me smile to see their oil and water personalities come together amidst a slow burn of attraction. As with anything magical, it was the rich descriptions of those things involved that really brought the plot to life. I was glued to my book right to the very end with the slow build of suspense and all of the action. Seeing so many story details resolved was satisfying yet there were a few hints of ongoing trouble perhaps to be addressed in the next story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked the story and that it was easy to read. I found the plot intriguing and the mystery within the story interesting to untangle. Vi and Rowe took to each other like oil does to water. Until they can’t control it anymore and keep keep coming at each other like teenagers.
While it was an interesting read, I found the development to be a little lacking and thus, made me give it three stars. There was too much left unsaid and I felt the end a bit rushed. Like, things were just starting to come to pass and then the book ends. I mean, I get it’s a series and there are cliffhangers. But I would have liked a little more depth to the storytelling.

Vi first meets Rowe when she picks him up after he’s been locked up in jail. Rowe was feeling restless but now that he’s met Vi he’s feeling something MUCH different. But he’s a new shifter and VI’s a witch. There are fated mates and magic going on but Rowe is very determined and he’ll find a way to protect his mate. A standalone In the series. One of the things I’ve noticed and loved in the series is that while the newly turned werewolves appear to be outmatched they find a way and although the characters at first appear to be very different, as time goes on you can see that there is more than just chemistry going for them, they are truly good for each other. Good read.
Stalking Magic (Guarded by the Shifter #3) by Kate Rudolph Publisher: Kate Rudolph Genre: Paranormal Romance Published: January 11, 2022
Stalking Magic is the third book in the Guarded by the Shifter series by Kate Rudolph.
I have not read the previous books and I'm wondering if that contributed to why the book fell flat for me. The author provided enough backstory, but there was just something missing.
The story was interesting and the premise was great. The characters were interesting but I struggled to connect with them
Overall, I would say if you enjoy paranormal romances give this one a try! There's an interesting mystery to follow along with.

As a first time reader of Kate Rudolph I was pleasantly surprised as to how well the story flowed. It was a good telling of Rowe and Vi's story. A romance of a Shifter meeting his fated mate as he worked as security for the witch coven. Being new to the magic world Rowe could not work out why he was so attracted to Vi at first, but his wolf soon let him know. A few twists and turns made for an interesting story-line. enough heat between the to keep you turning the pages. I felt that I may have missed the beginning of the Shifter side of the story so went and looked for previous releases. This book is the 1st in the werewolf bodyguard series. I will definitely read book number 2, On the prowl
In general i enjoyed the world and the characters, though i felt just like Rowe in that i didn't know the rules of the world's magic. The mystery itself was also very interesting, and i'm intrigued to know where it goes. I did dislike the repetitiveness of the MC and love interest's thoughts… they just kept thinking/saying the same things and it became a bit of bore. As individual characters they were interesting though and i wish we'd gotten to see more of Rowe's military training. His relationship with his pack though was disappointing, as he constantly left them out of major moments/information which i don't think made sense for his character's military background.
