Silver Bullet: A Lou Thorne Thriller

Rate this book
Lou “ uses her uncanny ability to inflict lethal retribution” (Kirkus Reviews) yet again in this eighth installment of the Shadows in the Water series.

These special meals are by invitation only. When chef Alan Rathers lifts the lid of his sterling silver platter to present his latest avant-garde creation to the family of four he’s serving, there is only one problem—they cannot see the fare he has painstakingly prepared. As the guests’ eyes have been gouged from their heads…

After facing down her own death, Louie Thorne resolves to become stronger and faster than she thought possible, and her efforts are producing wondrous results. She can now destroy her prey with an ease she’s never known before. And Lou will need every ounce of this newfound strength to defeat a cannibalistic serial killer with a taste for human flesh.

This unputdownable thriller with a touch of horror will have you racing through its pages. If you love David Baldacci or Dean Koontz, Silver Bullet is sure to keep you up all night.

What a cool book. From a cannibalistic serial killer to a person that can travel anywhere as long as she steps into a dark place. Well developed and likable characters. Well written and very interesting plot. Even though this is one book in a series, it can be read as a stand alone novel. Fast action, good suspense and just a well written book.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Silver Bullet is the eighth Lou Thorne Thriller and eighth book in the Shadows in the Water series by my new favourite author, Kory M. Shrum. I have come to the conclusion that Bookbub has a lot to answer for, on one hand it is a fantastic way to ‘find’ new books/authors to read- but on the other hand I end up spending my entire yearly book budget in a matter of a few months lol. But if it weren’t for Bookbub, I would never have found Ms. Shrum’s books, which would have been a real tragedy, because she really knows how to weave a riveting tale.
This is an awesome urban fantasy with so much going on- in a fantastic way. With plenty of action, adventure, mystery, danger, a different realm aspect, suspense, tension, intrigue, drama, the mafia, serial killers, agendas, ‘hunting’, team work, friendship, family, investigation, time factors, gripping scenes, intense developments, twists, romance, and so, so, so much more- you really need to read it to fully appreciate this gem of a series as I doubt my words can really do this series the justice that it deserves.
Louie Thorne is the daughter of assassinated DEA agent, Jack Thorne. He, along with her mother, were murdered by a drug cartel when she was just a young child- his death scarred her, in more ways than one. She has bided her time honing her skills, becoming a force to be reckoned with- one so powerful that the ‘bad guys’ will never see her coming. In the process of wreaking revenge, she builds a terrifying reputation that will strike fear into the hearts of her enemies- and it’s her secret ‘ability’ that gives her the upper hand- and gives this whole series a completely unique and addictive quality. So much action. With a lot of violence. And a huge helping of adventure. Resulting in a serious book addiction- while also set this book/series apart from others, and this is a book ‘high’ that will be hard to beat.
I developed this addiction to Ms. Shrum’s stories when I stumbled on the Shadows in the Water series -> picking up one book, which then led to two, which then had me devouring the whole series, back-to-back (11 books) in a matter of days. Now I am on tenterhooks, excitedly anticipating the release of Book #12, which can’t come quickly enough for my liking lol.
Each book in this series follows on from the previous one – with each instalment having its own ‘story’, but also adding to what has come before, thereby building a much bigger picture along the way- so the series really needs to be read in the correct sequence, to fully appreciate it- and prevent any kind of confusion. The books are available individually if you wish, as well as in Boxed Sets- which, again, is really great value for money.
The Series consists of:
-Shadows in the Water (Book #1)
-Under the Bones (Book #2)
-Danse Macabre (Book #3)
-Carnival (Book #4)
-Devil’s Luck (Book #5)
-What Comes Around (Book #6)
-Overkill (Book #7)
-Silver Bullet (Book #8)
-Hell House (Book #9)
-One Foot in the Grave (Book #10)
-Blood Rain (Book #11)
-First Light (Book #12 -> coming soon)
If you love highly original urban fantasies with plenty of action and adventure- then this is definitely a series you will want to sink your teeth into- but be prepared to develop a (Kory M.) Shrum addiction!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Kory M. Shrum!

If you've been following this series then you're already in love with Louie Thorne and her small circle of friends. They are all given individual stories within Silver Bullet, each involving insecurities within their relationships.

Lou is given a folder from Konstantine containing various homes he's wanting her to look over in hopes of purchasing one for the two of them. But is Lou willing to commit to living with Konstantine or will her insecurities find her refusing to give up her small "security blanket" apartment?

Mel is wanting to join an organization comprised of other Black business women in New Orleans and after attending one meeting she finds herself agreeing to host a fundraiser. Mel's insecurities result in her having a panic attack and she misunderstands the woman explaining that the group's fundraiser goal for the 1st Quarter is $100 thousand dollars, and Mel thinks that's how much she needs to raise all on her own! Let the insecurities mayhem begin!

Konstantine finds himself once again helping a young boy who needs some place to stay. When he learns the "boy" is actually a young girl, his insecurities have him thinking the child has been sent by one of his enemies to infiltrate his home and somehow harm him. Crazy fearful thoughts like the child arriving with a bomb strapped to her chest have him stalking the child to learn the truth of why she came to him.

Dani and Pepper both start tripping over their insecurities when one of Pepper's ex's, Scarlett, tries to break them apart. Scarlett is one conniving sadistic Bitch ... and you all are gonna love how this part of the book gets handled!

Let us not forget King. He has two trips up and down the insecurities ladder as his lover, Beth, announces that her son is getting married. While it's a joyous occasion for Beth, it's a mental agony moment for King because he knows that she will retire and move to be with them the minute there's a grandchild to hold and love. And where Mel's concerned, he's eager to see that she succeeds with becoming involved with the Black Women's Business organization and making new friends, yet his abandonment insecurities see him fighting the notion that she won't have any time now for him.

Seriously, the only member of the group exhibiting any common sense and normalcy is the dog, Lady.

You're gonna love it, and I doubt you'll be able to put it down once you start.

I was given a free copy of Silver Bullet in exchange for an honest review.

The saga of Lou Thorne continues in Book 8. The characters and universe have been continued from the previous books, so it would be best to start at the beginning of the series, Shadows in the Water. There are several interesting threads to follow: Gabriella, a possible mole to harm Konstantine; the cannibal, who thinks he’s a werewolf; Mel’s induction and party that may be a scam to get her money; Piper and Dan’s relationship, which is severely tested by Scarlett; and Lou and Konstantine’s relationship, which seems to be firming up. There is much more about relationships, companionship, love, and drama with somewhat less violence than in previous books, at least until the last third of the book. Then the action gets fast, deadly, and furious before the threads are finally woven together and tied off.

You can run, but you can't hide 😉❤! Awesome thriller!!!

Yet another epic thriller from this exciting series. Lou is on the hunt once again, yet there's something different about this "monster".
He may think he can escape...but he's wrong. Friends/Family are also a huge theme within all of the storylines in this book. Reaching from Jabbers through to everyone else that touches Lou, you will see "family" runs deep. Lou seems to truly be coming into her own both physically and emotionally. She's gaining a better understanding of her powers and strength, and settling into trusting those around her. I can't wait to see what's next in this adrenaline packed series!!

If I could give 10 stars, I would!!!

So many great parts in this installment of the Lou Thorne series!!! I love a good series that keeps building character development, world building, and keeps you on the edge of your seat with fear and excitement to turn the next page, and tops it off with a great group of romances that balance out the star-studded cast and the kickass MC!

If you like that kind of book too, then read this series. The books just keep getting better and that is a really hard thing to do since book 1, Shadows In The Water, was epic and so unique.

I loved this book!

Yet another unputdownable thriller. Perhaps the best Lou Thorne yet. Great main characters, and generous detail given to the supporting characters. Great support for each other. What a team!
Lou Thorne, with her uncanny abilities, is now a serious threat to the evil people she meets (or are bought to her attention). Here she is faced with someone whom she might have become, if not for the support and love of her (now deceased) aunt. Realisation, understanding and empathy moves her.
I can’t get enough of these stories!
I received this book as an arc and this review is entirely voluntary.

Each Lou Thorne book has been my favorite. Now "Silver Bullet" is my most favorite. This may sound fickle but I lay it at the feet of the talented author, Ms. Shrum. If it were not for her writing, I would not like her books so much. Like the logic? Anyhow, great story, great ongoing characters, great twists and some really great paybacks (if you are into that kind of thing) and Lou and her compassion and anger and love and sense of justice - all the above and probably more make this one of the best Urban Fantasies (sort of?) out there.

Absolutely brilliant. Each of the main characters have an agenda of their own, but they all work together as a team to help and protect each other. Full of action from start to finish. Couldn't put it down, didn't want it to end. Kory has excelled herself yet again. I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily leave an honest review.

I have loved this series from the beginning. For me it sparks a lot of imagination, like what would I do if I had her ability. The storyline is amazing, a page turner for sure. Some series I've read, the storyline gets old, but with this series it just keeps getting better!!!!!

Silver Bullet

Again, well worth the wait! Lou Thorn is amazing in every sense of the word, as are all the brilliant characters Ms. Shrum envisions. I finished my first reading yesterday and had to reread it again today, I never want to miss a single solitary thing!

Lou is back with her most perplexing case yet!! Is it human or hybrid? Is it real or imagination? The more she digs the more she questions until she is in grave danger.... Can Lou survive this time around???

Lots of little stories in with the main one. I enjoy Lou and her cast of friends and lover. I was worried about this latest villain, he was not the usual bad guy. The suspense was good and kept me reading till the end. It was a great story and I am looking forward to the next one.

I can't ever get enough of this series - each book just gets better and better - although I must admit I did not see the story ending in this way - who knew Lou had a soft side? Gotta read it to find out what I mean by that.

Another great Lou story. Kory never disappoints her readers when she writes her books. Love how Lou interacts with children who find out she is the “La Strega”. Had a great laugh reading the part about Scarlett. You’ll have read it to find out. Great series!

This book has everyone having their own subplots, and it's great. The main story with Lou is so creepy that I loved it.
