Julia Rothman’s Wildlife Anatomy is a beautiful book. It’s going to be one that’s equally at home on the coffee table or in the family bookshelf to refer back to for years to come.

In terms of family, I’d say it’s accessible to everyone though will be appreciated by children from around 7 or 8 years up. Despite this, younger children will enjoy looking at the gorgeous pictures and being read to some of the simpler facts. I’m a parent myself with a lifelong interest in nature and there was still so much for me to learn about and interest me here, so I think the author has really nailed it in terms of producing a wildlife book that really can appeal to all ages.

A lot of thought and care has gone into making the book flow really nicely between the various themes and picking interesting categories. The illustrations really are fantastic, too. The same care has gone into fact-checking (just one small error in which the Tiger shark bio has a picture of a Sand Tiger Shark – similar name, different shark.) There was so much I learnt about animals I thought I knew a lot about already and fascinating related species. Rothman is adept at showing what a diverse range of wildlife there is and how unique some of these amazing animals are.

Something important this book achieves is highlighting the need for the conservation of these animals and the sheer wonder we are lucky enough to have in our natural world, a wonder that needs to be cherished and protected. The author successfully does this without ever being preachy – she lets the interesting facts and wholesome feel of this book do that by itself.

This book is such a lovely read I would go as far as to suggest it could ignite a love of nature with the discovery and amazement you can find within its pages, or remind someone who already feels that way of why exactly they love wildlife and nature so much. Most people regardless of prior knowledge will also find things to learn and be amazed at all over again.

This would make a perfect gift or a little treat to yourself.

Thankyou to the author and published for allowing me to read this book on Netgalley in return for my honest review.

This book is STUNNING. Not only visually but in the broad content it covers. At the beginning, it sheds light on not only some really important research, but also some really important people too before going into some fab animal and wildlife profiles.

I will be buying this book as a physical copy as the ebook as a standalone is fab, but it’s a book your shelf also needs and in purchasing you are supporting the cause to help in further research. Which I am all for!

This topic is a close one for my own heart as a scientist and books like these just make my heart sing. To read more about the ground breaking and awe inspiring research that’s being undertaken is such a worthwhile endeavour and especially for children too. It’s written expertly and for everyone. I loved it. The animal and anatomy facts were super fun to read and I learnt a load about animals I didn’t even know existed.

Honestly this book was just a delight from start to finish. This isn’t just a book for a younger audience but is an amazing book for parents and definitely not young children (like me) to enjoy too. There was so much covered as well in its content. So much to learn and shared in such a beautiful way.

It’s a feast for the eyes, mind and soul and it’s a solid recommend for anyone and everyone.

Thank you to the author and publisher for this book on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.

What a freaking book. Is it maybe geared towards children? Maybe. Are there definitely awesome illustrations and facts about a huge array of animals, their habitats, social structures, and oddities? Hell yeah. Would highly recommend for any animal enjoyers which probably should be everyone. Will definitely be thumbing back through periodically. 10/10 would read again and recommend.

I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I just couldn’t resist this super-pretty book! Plus, it is about a topic I just adore, animals! Nature! So I was eager to get reading!

In this GORGEOUSLY illustrated book we learn all about nature and animals. From various habitats to animal families to animals themselves. We also learn about Food Webs and invasive, non-native species and the damage they do and there is so so much more. This book is PACKED with information. For real! It’s been a while since I had a book like this. I was really surprised and delighted. I had expected it to just focus on a certain theme, but no, everything. From animals in cold regions to hot regions. From close-by to very far away. Anatomy of various animals. Even going deeper in some topics, like I loved the part about teeth and claws. Or the one about all the big kitties! And I loved that it showed so many animals, not just the known ones like bears and tigers, but also Lappet-faced Vultures, Bakharan Markhors, Sitatungas. This made me smile~ It was just a feast to read and I was eagerly flipping to the next page to see what we would get next!

Sorry, but I laughed so much when we got to the part about Wild Asses. My head immediately forgot it was about animals. 😛

Most of the information was not new to me, but I did learn quite a few new things as well and I love that. I love it when a book like this, about nature a topic that I really love and try to read quite a bit about, can still surprise me!

I love the introduction to the book, see what inspired the author and also learn of various people who are working hard to help animals, study them, research, etc. And I also am happy to hear that if you buy the book some of the money will go to a good cause!

And BOY the illustrations are just such a delight! Such a pretty style.

The only thing that got in the way for my reading was that the font was often VERY blurry, sometimes I really had to get my glasses on so I could read. I do hope that in the official release this will be fixed.

I think this book will be perfect in any classroom, but also any bookshelf for nature lovers! I would recommend it and yes, yes, I will be buying it when it comes out~

Just like her other books, this book is a treat to look at. Rothman once again created a whimsical and pleasing book that takes the reader on a journey through the world to learn about wild animals. My children enjoyed the book, but I did too! We learned a lot and enjoyed looking at the new animals as well as learning facts about our favorite animals.

Julia Rothman has., once again, hit it out of the park. We own several of her other titles so imagine my joy and excitement to see that she had written a wildlife book! The facts and illustrations in this book is spot on and you can tell the research necessary has been done to give us a book that is full of amazing information. Perfect for animal lovers everywhere, especially homeschoolers or those who love learning. Rothman continues to please and educate us with each of her titles and I cannot wait to see what she puts out next.

Supports a great cause of organizations the author thinks are working really hard to protect wildlife. I love this aspect so much!!!

Really breaks down in a visual way different aspects of animals: ecosystems, teeth and claws, herds, anatomy, eating/food chain, social networks, grooming, building homes, and my favorite category, weird & wonderful.

I learned more than I thought I would to be honest. This is very educational but still fun and beautiful.

I received an e-ARC for this book, and I’m immediately adding the book to my Amazon Wishlist. This book is perfect for your little nature lovers. It includes so many different facts for many different animals. It’s great information, but not too much so that your child would get bored. It’s beautifully written. Great illustrations.

This book is okay for an extremely light read, or for a kid, probably aged 8 or under who is really into animals and nature. Those are the two use cases really. There are some interesting factoids, and I appreciate the moments that the author does raise awareness of what species are endangered or invasive or critical to habitats, etc., but would really have liked to have seen more of that sort of thing. Maybe it would be too off putting for mass audiences or something, but it’s important. There were some repetitive bits, and I had an increasing sense of randomness regarding what was being chosen as a topic or how things were being labeled, but that could just be me. Overall, my review is: This book is fine for what is. Now go forth and do what ye wilt.

I have been eyeballing this book out of the ARC reviews that I need to do and after my last unfortunate run-in I was a bit worried on whether this would be another Woke mess. But fortunately to say this is actually one book that I found myself really enjoying.

Wildlife Anatomy was rather refreshing since it was focused on presenting to the readers just animals facts while combining it in a format that combined the best of animal encyclopedia-type books with Zoobooks.

First of all the book was split into six chapters/sections that focused on one particular element of animal lives whether it was about weird yet wonderful traits, social lives of these animals, breakdown of various predators vs prey, etc. And from there each chapter/section dedicated some of its pages to further highlight specific animal comparisons such as browsers versus grazers, eye-placement, types of animals that fish for their dinner, etc. And finally rarely interspersed would be included full diagrams of specific animal models with a breakdown of their anatomies' most important aspects and what they offer to help the creature survive.

All of this information was presented to the reader in easy-to-read and understand language so even though the book is a bit on the big side still elementary children will find this a great book to get their hands on. There is also some inclusion of pronunciation for some of the animals that may be a bit harder to pronounce if the reader should not have heard of them before.

The book is also brightly colored and has plenty of detailed illustrations to help break-up the reading for young readers who may just want to browse a bit as they read. There were a few spots in which parts of the illustration elements were a bit on the offside thus making the creatures look a bit on the weird side.

All in all this was a great and interesting book to read while truly would have been a book that I would have found myself picking out of the library if it had been available to myself when I was a younger reader. And as such I think it would make for a great addition to any scientific libraries or those libraries of children who just enjoy animals in general.

This is the book review for Wildlife Anatomy by Julia Rothman. This is a NEW addition to the Anatomy series that is loved by children and adults alike.
At Curating Edits, we personally own the collection, which includes Nature Anatomy, Farm Anatomy, and Food Anatomy out of the 8 already published. When I saw that Wildlife Anatomy was available to review, I jumped on it. These books are perfect educational reference books. That being said, they are just a fun, interesting read. We love a book that can work both ways. Each section can be turned into an entire Science lesson, that’s how detailed these books are.

Wildlife Anatomy is packed with so many wildlife animals and their unique features and attributes. Animals you might have never heard of, it’s such a fascinating learning experience. The illustrations are phenomenal and the research is exciting and educational.
Julia Rothman created the text and illustrations for this wonderful book. Alongside the help from Lisa Hiley. With six chapters and a resource area that offers information on organizations working hard to protect our wildlife.

By purchasing this book, the author will be using all of her advance royalty payment to help two promising students that need funding to get their master’s degrees to further help in protecting wildlife animals.
How honorable of the author to do such an inspiring act to help the future by helping these two students. Which you can read about in the introduction of the book. By purchasing this book, you too are doing something towards helping the future of wildlife animals and two special students.

You will have many favorite chapters in this book. From learning about an Ecosystem to more specific animal characteristics like in chapter 6, “Weird and Wonderful”. Wildlife Anatomy covers so much in easy-to-comprehend ways that will benefit the learning children and the adults reading it.
I have finally learned the difference between an Alligator and a Crocodile, because of this book! I love it, I already know I am going to be purchasing this book as a gift to a few animal lovers in my life.

Thanks to Netgalley for access to this advance copy for my honest review. I will definitely be purchasing the hard copy version as soon as it is released. Wildlife Anatomy is yet another beautiful book from Julia Rothman. Our family currently owns all of the other books in her Anatomy collection. This collection is used heavily in our homeschooling, but my children can often be found reading them even when we are not doing lessons.. The wonderfully illustrated pictures and thoughtful text cover a wide range of “wild” topics. The six chapters are: The World Over, Tooth and Claw, Have you Herd, Social Networks, Built from the Ground Up, and Weird and Wonderful.

Our favorite parts of the newest book include the final chapter titled Weird and Wonderful. This chapter covers animals that have extraordinary characteristics. We loved learning about various snakes and frogs. My son, who loves insects and other small animals, really enjoyed the chapter Built from the Ground Up. This chapter includes not only insects and arachnids but also birds and some small mammals. It teaches about the various homes that these creatures build in or low to the ground.

This book does not go in depth on any one topic but is a great reference that allows children to gain interest in a particular topic before deep diving using various other references. This book is also good at showing relationships between various animals and ecosystems.

I nature school my daughters on the weekends and we LOVE Julia Rothman's books. Her newest book on wildlife has become our new favorite.

The way she melds information and images into a nature journal-esque resource makes my kids love searching out new information. The drawings are detailed and the diagrams are very easy to read and draw conclusions. We've been wanting to do a larger-scale animal unit after finishing up learning about oceans last year, and this is the perfect follow up.

If you've never read one of the Anatomy series yet, the books look like you've discovered an explorers nature diary -- there are drawings of animals to identify, descriptions of behavior and habitat, notations on their hunting patterns and what they eat, and how the whole system works together. They're split up into different categories that make it easy to flip through or read all together - and this one is no different. If your kids are into nature, or you've just come back from the zoo and they can't stop talking about seeing an elephant for the first time, HIGHLY recommend giving this book a look.

Wildlife Anatomy
5 Stars

Wildlife Anatomy is another great addition to the Anatomy series by Julia Rothman. This book begins by touching on research, then moves into straightforward learning about ecosystems, and animals living in them. There are interesting animal facts and illustrations to better understand more about animals, and the world that they live in.

I love the charming illustrations; it's so impressive she wrote and illustrated this lovely book. I'm surprised by the sheer amount of content covered. This book makes my heart happy! Looking forward to getting a physical copy for myself.

Overall, Wildlife Anatomy is phenomenal! It's definitely a good choice for any animal lover, young or old. I love the interesting facts, adorable illustrations and loads of educational gems.

*Note- This book covers evolution. So, for parents who don’t believe in evolution, I wouldn't recommend it.

Thank you, NetGalley and Storey Publishing, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Take my money!
Wonderfully illustrated history and physical of the earth's oceans and inhabitants. The author is also a fantastic illustrator who makes it more real and for us to have more appreciation of all of the wildlife that many of us will never be able to visit. It's zoology for the rest of us! While it seems to be viewed as a book for children, the information and technical verbiage kind of belies that narrow definition. I promote it as for ages 3 to 103! Can't wait to go out and buy several print copies for others! I loved it and so will my family.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to any school or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Storey Publishing, LLC via NetGalley. Thank you!
By purchasing this book, the author will be using all of her advance royalty payment to help two promising students that need funding to get their master’s degrees to further help in protecting wildlife animals.

I miss the old hand drawn children's reference books of the 1980s and 1990s, which this book was so reminiscent of. The style of drawing is semi-realistic, not too cartoony but not photo realistic either, giving it much charm. The illustrations depict a wide array of species worldwide, from charismatic megafauna to invertebrates, from all biomes on land, sea and air. An ambitious task no doubt, but the execution was impressive, with just sufficient technical information to pique the interest of young and old alike, without being too wordy and off putting. Chapters were divided into major groups of animals such as predators, herbivores, social animals, flying animals etc. Not the most classic organization of the animal kingdom for sure, but worked well enough to sustain the reader's attention with factoids relating to the animals found in each group.

Highly recommended for both kids and the young at heart, as an introduction to the wonderful diversity of wildlife on our planet. Makes for a beautiful gift too, I imagine.

Wow, this is a book that conqueers the reader from the very first pages.
The title is a bit misleading, there is minimal anatomy in the strict sense of the word, in fact it is about the external characteristics of the various species, mostly mammals. On the other hand it is perfect for children, the text is short but very informative and the drawings are delightful .This book is a perfect accompanion for a visit in the zoo. It is very entertaining while containing a lot of information. I appreciated also the description of the various habitats and the behaviour of the animals. and the notes about the endangered species like the lions.
I liked the font type and the layout too.
Absolutely recommended.

A delightful book - lovely illustrations and well layout of schematics and taxonomy.
Humorous too - "Have you herd?"
Broad range classifications - learnt about Detritivores and their importance to the ecosystem.

Anatomy of wildlife - there are good subsections eg anatomy of claws ( the design and shape and function) and the anatomy of hooves.

Cheetahs bark.
A baby llama is a cria, and are cousins with the wild Guanacos and Vicunas.

Good book to improve my English too eg with collective nouns :
A wake of vultures
A flamboyance of flamingoes

Good Book to read and recall when going on a nature walk .

This latest book in the series is the first I’ve read but I’m definitely looking forward to reading the others now. Seven year old me would have LOVED this book for all the interesting facts about animals and habitats. Grownup me appreciated the facts as well as the simple yet beautiful artwork and layout of the book. This would make a wonderful gift for a family with school age kids but all ages can discover something interesting in it. A bonus is that part of the money from each book sold goes to conservation research.

Though written for children I believe that any age could appreciate this informative book.
Beautifully illustrated and impressive photographs greet you as you read. Divided into the different areas animals live such as grasslands, wetlands etc. it shows which animals live there and gives you information on them. Interesting, informative and beautifully illustrated you'll want this as a coffee table book for years to come.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

This is a beautiful book!

It's broken down by animals with similar animals and locations grouped together. The book includes colorful drawings with information about the animals from around the world. This is a fun way to learn how to differentiate African from Asian elephants, what the panther family includes, and the different kinds of bison in the world. It's an informative read!

Lots and lots of cute illustrations in color, very readable and short descriptions. Really fun way to learn about wildlife from around the world. Great for kids as well as adults, including me!

Only issue for parents who don’t believe in evolution is that there is some mention there.

Other than that, a really well done book. A concept that can be used for a lot of other subjects.

5 stars from me, with the above caveat.

Julia Rothman is costing me a fortune !
The children read this book for hours and then decided to look on Amazon to see what other books were in the series, now I am getting constant requests for these books to appear on their bookshelves. The youngest wants the sticker books. The problem being that I have to agree that this book and the others in the series are FABULOUS. And educational but please don't mention that to the grandchildren.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Colorful and eye-catching cover on this book.

This was a fun book to read. To start eye-catching and colorful graphics make this a visually pleasing book to go through. On top of that, it is packed full of all kinds of information ranging from ecosystems, animals, social networks, and even the "weird and wonderful". There is plenty here to keep readers of all ages engaged and learning. 👍🏻👍🏻

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
The book is illustrated with pictures of the various animals and where they live. It contains information about the various places creatures live along with information about the different types of animals. There are also sections about comparisons between animals by overall type.
This would be a good book for school-aged children and older.

A graphic novel survey of miscellaneous animals of the world and some of their characteristics.

Like the rest of her graphic novels, this one is informative, engaging, a little random, but educational and fun to look at. It will appeal to a wide range of readers, from Elementary students eager to look at the pictures and read bits of the text to adults who love animals or are sponges for random facts.
