✨ARC REVIEW✨
The book cover grabbed me! From the start, I felt immersed into the world where humans and fae reside. The world building and politics was engaging throughout the book. I particularly loved the princes and their dynamics with each other.
My only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the ending didn't have enough resolution for me and the title doesn't fit exactly with what happens.
But I am excited for the next one!

I received this arc for an honest review…

I was very excited to read this book, and it pains me to leave a review that isn’t a good one. I dnf’d at 34%. I pushed myself to even get that far. It just wasn’t for me. The writing was more telling than showing. The MC was too “perfect” but yet, not. If that makes sense. I’m sure there are plenty of readers who will enjoy this book, unfortunately I just wasn’t one of them.

4.5 ⭐️

Be still my beating heart. I'm not sure if it's from the tension between Kelera and Dras or the fear of what has happened that leads to what could happen next! Either way, I cannot wait for more from Kelera. Please can I have book two now? Lol.

J.M. Wallace has wowed me again. The world she builds is so vivid and alive that you feel and see it around you. The lush descriptions create fully immersive worlds full of beauty, pain, love, and fear.

Again, we get to meet the most extraordinary array of characters. Most notably, Kelera, a halfling - half-mortal, half-fae, and then the Princes of the Unseelie Court.

Kelera is somewhat of an outcast, and no matter what she does, she cannot escape the fear the mortals have of her and of the fae magic that lives within her, therefore struggling to find her place within the Mortal Court.
The Princes of the Unseelie Court appear to be menacing, devious and calculating with little care for others, but remember, looks can be deceiving.
Of course, there are many more characters and creatures of differing personalities and allegiance, but I shall leave you to discover those. I will say the Pooka is awesome. Lol.

So why is it only 4.5 and not five stars? Well,
1: The pace, at times, is a little slower than I like.
2: One of the beasts does not reflect the author's incredible imagination.

Thank you so much, J.M. Wallace, for the arc ebook. I’m forever grateful and blessed. And in case I haven’t mentioned it, I want book two now! Lol.

“adult” fantasy with no romance, no spice, convenient situations, blushing, trying to act “macho”, women = virgin/pure while men = players/skilled, also women are referred to as “girls” no matter the age while boys are referred to as “men” no matter the age - take of that what you will, “slow burn” aka “I fall in love with you in a blink and we’ll have a few books of almost going all the way but something happens to interrupt us”, a bunch of telling but no showing (because everything again happens upon convenience)…

yup sounds like another author who tries to age up their Young Adult stories!

Young Adult YA not even NA and definitely not adult.

OMG has the book left me shuddering!

I first picked up this book in 2021. I had a hard time reading it my first time trying and I gave up. Now, in 2024 I gave it another go and I wished I'd bought the other two before finishing. If you are the type of reader that enjoys fairytales and fantasy, monsters that come out of the dark and twists and turns, this is surely a book for you.

It starts the way any "normal" book might. We are introduced to Kelera, first when she is about 7 years old. She is a bastard daughter of the commander of the knights (dad) and a Fae (mom). She is a halfling, presenting qualities that make it obvious she is not just human: pointed ears and multi-ringed eyes ... And magic. Her world exists in tandem with another, where her mother is from; Elfhame. Only a forest of blackberry trees helps to distinguish where the veal allows a Fae to enter or leave each world. Growing up, Kelera was raised and educated as a lady of the court but other than her best friend, Cierine (heir to the throne), she is an outsider in her home. So when women begin disappearing and Kelera's magic becomes harder to extinguish within herself, she knows deep down that something is happening. When her best friend Cierine is taken from her room, and the kidnapper leaves berries from the bushes, Kelera is sure it is a sign that she must enter Elfhame to bring her friend back.

With the intent of bringing with her ragged mortals as the search party through the veal with her, Kelera must summon the magic she's kept at bay for so long. The mortals do not make it through and Kelera is left alone in a world she was born in and taken from at birth. She meets a man who saves her life and offers her one last chance to leave unharmed. The man, who she'd learn later on is actually one of the Princes of Shadows, then leaves her to her own devices. Kelera trudges on, sneaking into the palace to be caught by the captor, another of the princes, Samael. Samael, a distasteful and arrogant man, claims her as his property and takes her to her friend Cierine. They make a plan of escape and get help from mortal servants willing to try and leave too. But there is a traitor and even though many made it back to the veal only Cierine safely gets back. The king's guard and a familiar face brutally murder the mortal servants and once again take custody of Kelera. A man whose grown up through a violent life, and a Prince of Shadows; Kelera is unsure who Adrastus really is. Is he friend or foe?

This book takes you on a winding journey. Kelera is forced to learn to use her magic, to wield for the king or for Samael. Everyone has ulterior motive in the palace, and questions bubble to the surface the way Kelera's magic does, just out of reach. Kelera must learn to let go of the pain, terror, and rules of her life as a lady of the court in Nevene if she is the survive in Elfhame. She must remove her masks to reveal her true self and her true potential.

THIS IS BOOK 1.

You won't be able to put it down. J.M. Wallace twists and turns in this book with so many "OMG!" "YASSSS" "NO" moments. The book is fairly long but it reads much faster than it looks. By the end you may feel the way Kelera feels many times in this book, losing some hope at ever finding out the underlying questions.

Questions I'm hoping to better answer in book 2:
-okay so IS Kelera heir to Seelie realm??? Is Adrastus??? OMG I know there's some tension (italics) but are they half sibs?
-does Kelera get to reunite with her father and Cierine?
-how will Kelera fair if she makes it back to Nevene?

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

This was a hard book to rate because while I liked it overall, it took me a while to get fully invested in the story. I love fantasy books and appreciate it when an author takes the time to set up the world, both the human and fae realms, before delving into the story, which Wallace did well. I appreciated the background and insight into Kelera’s complicated life in court. But the story took too long to get interesting, maybe because it took a while for Kelera to enter Elfhame and the action and intrigue to pick up. Yet, even after Kelera entered Elfhame, I was unable to become fully invested in the story until about 60 percent into the book, when our hero and heroine started interacting more regularly. Even though the book was fast-paced, and there was never a dull moment, it was hard to get lost in the story because I was unsure about what I thought about Kelera. I didn't dislike her and was always rooting for her, but I could not fully connect with her. Though this first book was focused on Keleria fully accepting both her fae and human identity, and she was very stubborn, I liked Kelera more in the last few chapters when she started to work to balance her fae and human sides. I'm curious about how Kelera will grow in future books. However, I loved the male lead, Adrastus, from the moment he first appeared in the woods. He’s a morally grey half-blood prince, despised by most of his family, with a strong protective streak and a sense of loyalty to his people. Kelera and Adrastus are instantly attracted to each other, which I usually don't like, but I thought it worked well in this story because, despite their attraction, they don't completely lose all sense around each other. Kelera has a human fiancé who seems to like her, and she's beginning to like him, so she resists Adrastus primarily because of him, but I don’t like her fiancé, so it was easy to root for Kelera and Adrastus.

The world that Wallace created is fascinating, we only see the human kingdom and the magical Winter court, but both are harrowing and beautiful. The magic system, in particular, was unique and very creatively described. While I might have been on the fence about Kelera, I loved the supporting characters. Kelera's allies, her father, his knights, her best friend the princess, and her new friend the Winter fae Prince Gadreel added some much-needed levity to this otherwise dark and bloody story. I loved that Princess Cierine, while a bit naive and very privileged, really loved Kelera and stood up for her against those in court who teased her because of her heritage. Even the antagonists were well developed and especially easy to hate. The main antagonist, Prince Samael, was magnificently dastardly, bloodthirsty, and power-hungry.

The ending was very abrupt, and it was a little confusing when the Wild Hunt made a very sudden appearance. But I am interested to learn what happens next! That cliffhanger just opened up a whole bunch of new opportunities. I can’t wait to see more of the magical world Wallace created and read about how Kelera and Adrastus will survive and develop their romance.

Listen, I liked the concept of this book. It’s clear that the writer has a very creative mind she has a lot going for her here. That being said, there were many inconsistencies in this book that led me to leaving two stars.

• Kelera is having lunch with the royal family, and at one point it is mentioned as “breakfast” accidentally.
• Kelera is told that the palace changes it’s halls of its own accord when she is speaking to the servant women. However, when Samael is bringing her down the hall, she comes to the realization all over again that the palace changes, thus repeating what was already said earlier in the story.
• Mira, one of the servants names, is spelled as Maia at one point, which is confusing.
• A multitude of places in the book are missing commas and other punctuation, making it a bit hard to follow.

I was also bothered by a few major things in the story:
• The beginning seemed to drag on for far too long – this would not be an issue if the book was longer than 300 pages, but you’re basically halfway through the book before Kelera even meets Adrastus. Even then, he’s barely present until the last 100 pages or so.
• Kelera has a fiancé at home that she seems to be attracted to and loyal to. Yet, the second she meets Adrastus in the flesh and has him alone in a room with her, she kisses him. What..? Kelera has been raised in an environment where being fae is wrong. She has been taught that they are horrible, cruel, terrifying creatures that she should avoid at all costs. She is taught that she must blend in with human society and suppress her nature. Her views are confirmed when she goes into Elfhame, and the first man she comes across is revealed to be a warlock that likely wanted to sell her off. Then she is faced with Samael and the rest of the royal family (excluding Adrastus and Gadreel), who further confirm her views by proving to be a bunch of sadistic, power hungry psychos. When Kelera tries to make her escape, she is captured by Adrastus. This is when she finds out he is one of the Princes and that he was the one in her dreams. Yet he also seems to be heading the group of soldiers who slaughtered the rest of the mortal women Kelera was helping. Then, when Adrastus wins Kelera in The Pits, one of his first actions is to try to scare Kelera and convince her he’s just as bad as his brothers. All of this background, and she kisses him?!?! It makes absolutely no sense. She starts falling for this man who she barely knows, has only seen a handful of times, and has done barely anything to earn her trust. This whole romance just moved way too fast. Which, again, could be fixed with a longer book to fit the first whole half of the book where Kelera hasn’t even reached Elfhame yet.

I was chosen to receive an ARC of this book and boy am I glad I did!

Like most fantasy books, it started slow in order to world build and to truly pull you in but once I reached that point, this author sucked me into the story with full force and I couldn't put the book down. The entire thing had me on the edge of seat wondering what would happen next.

From the characters and the plot, the twists and turns, the times where I audibly laughed or gasped and even the times where the tension was so high that I thought I might burst, the ride the story took me on was amazing.

I do have a favorite character but I've decided to keep it to myself in an effort to keep this review spoiler free. You'll know when you read it. 😏

If I could rate this book any higher, I would. There's so many of my favorite tropes weaved in like enemies to lovers, the chosen one, slow burn, and the angst...ahhhhhh my heart!

Definitely read this series if you like other fantasy series such as The Red Queen, Ash Princess, Cruel Prince or ACOTAR, then this series is perfect for you.

To the author...thank you for creating this vibrant world and I can't wait to read the rest of these books!

FAVORITE QUOTES:

"After last night, I realized something. We do not need to pretend with each other. I think it might be nice to have someone in thus world with whom you can show your true self to."

"Something tells me you were wearing a mask of your own making long before you came here. Don't you think it was about time you rid yourself of them all together?"

"Choose your words carefully, little thief. There are still a few Unseelie tricks you have not yet experienced."

Couldn't put this down! Loved the world and how carefully the author leaked the back story without me really noticing, and the romance built perfectly- nice & slow. I know some adults may not like the lack of spice, but I really appreciate it because now my preteen daughter is reading so we can chat about it together.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and I’m so glad! I do have to admit I found the main character to be annoying at some parts, however that changed as the story developed and I got to understand her as a character more. Also, though the start was quite slow, I was stilled gripped from the first line, needing to know what would happen next! And once the action started happening, from the middle of the book, I found myself unable to put it down!
There are some many more questions I need answered and I can’t wait for the next book!

Strength and Will

The story of Kelera is a powerful one of self acceptance and inner strength. Being a child of two worlds, mortal and fae has made her life difficult. Adrastus is a kindred spirit, being product of Seelie and Unseelie experiencing similar rejections. I have my predictions as to what is to come in book two and the secrets of these beings working now together. The lack of spice lets the true character and strengths come through, with the emotions ruling the plot.

*4.25 stars*

Plot: Kelera is a half-fae, half-mortal young woman living in the human court, trying her best to fit in. When kidnappings by fae force her to cross the veil into the fae world, she finds herself in Elfhame, a land she is not familiar with and whose rules she has no concept of.

Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My minor critique is that though the pacing was pretty 'medium', it did take me a little while to fully get invested in the book as a lot of setup took place and nothing was really happening (I would say the story starts kicking in around the 30% mark or so? I didn't keep a note but off feel that was probably it) - but once I did, it absolutely didn't disappoint. The world building was brilliant and you can tell the author has a lot up their sleeve.

There were various bits I loved, but my main like is that Kelera isn't your typical 'badass strong character who always knows what to do' which we often see in this genre. If you're expecting a Jude Duarte type character (Cruel Prince) you won't find her here. As someone who has spent her whole life trying to appease and not frighten the people around her due to her connection to magic, she is often more quiet, presenting herself as well as she can and makes as little space for herself as possible, despite having immense power. Her desire to make others feel unintimidated really stuck out to me because the book really develops that side of her without it feeling rushed. You can see her character's motivations and thought process despite it being written in third person in a way I didn't think I would during the first 30% or so of the book.

I also like the fact this book didn't go down the 'she hates the man she is betrothed to' trope. This book was quite refreshing and I have to say though I initially found the main love interest ... too dark for my taste, their dynamic really grew on me as I read on.

Overall, I genuinely cannot wait until the next instalment because the worldbuilding and conflict set up is really interesting and I can see a few things which will likely come up and develop which I think will create a great world - a lot of political intrigue and a large volume of characters who all have distinct enough personalities for you not to get lost with it will also help with this.

I was provided with an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, which I leave voluntarily.

Heir of Shadows and Ice - spoiler free review.
_________________________________________

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book, and the excitement did not disappoint.

Like many fantasy books I love, this story started out with detailed world-building and steady pacing. We follow Kelara, a halfFae/half-human who has spent the better part of her life trying to hide her magic in the human realm. Beyond the blackthorns, there lies two Fae realms, the Unseelie and Seelie courts. The story focuses most on the Unseelie Court and the ongoing hatred and war between it and the human realm.

Kelara finds herself on the unfortunate side of the blackthorns, after avoiding them her entire life. She finds trouble, trials and tribulations from the start and her journey is full of twists and tumbles. Instead of following many of the tropes we love and are familiar with, the author took a different direction with each one, which were perfectly paced and kept me guessing the entire time. The story picked up pace about halfway through, when new characters are introduced and the world begins to develop and unravel. Some of the well developed tropes I loved were the classic enemies to lovers, the chosen one, hidden lineage, slow burn, hurt-her-and-I’ll-hurt-you, and fabulous unexpected best friend. I truly love the characters, especially Kelara and watching her development and self awareness unfold. There are two other characters I really loved (Dras & Gadreel) but for spoiler reasons, I won’t say why. 😇

I also feel the need to point out the authors beautiful style of writing. From the grammar and punctuation l, language and dialect, general dialogue and flow—it was so perfectly done and beautifully written which made it a very enjoyable read.

By the end of the book, I was absolutely hooked and invested in the plot, and it ended on such an amazing twist and cliffhanger which has me begging for book two.

Overall, a fantastic and gorgeous story with amazing characters and world building (albeit slow at times; it’s worth it by the end to understand it’s entirety) and perfectly placed twists and troubles. I truly did not expect so many aspects within the plot, which also made it a refreshing new fantasy read.

3.5 stars overall.

This book was a rather enjoyable read. I cared about the characters and was invested in the plot which really is all you can ask for in a book.

Our main character, Kelera, is a half-fae, half-human who is scorned by the humans for being a halfling. Because of this, she has devoted herself to being the perfect human to prove that she belongs there. However, once she enters the Fae land, she must learn to accept herself and embrace her Fae side. Kelera is a refreshing protagonist in that she isn’t your typical rebellious, stubborn, snarky main character that is so overplayed in the genre. At times she came across as a bit too morally righteous, but overall I enjoyed her character. There was a strong theme of self-acceptance and not changing yourself for the sake of others, which was well done.

The Unseelie princes make for interesting side characters, but they would have benefited from some more page time to really develop their characters. Hopefully there will be more of that in the second book.

There is a minor romantic subplot that I wasn’t a huge fan of. We are first introduced to Kelera’s fiancé, Alexander, and I really liked him. He seemed genuinely kind, supportive, and accepting of who Kelera is (though I’m guessing we’ll find out in book 2 that he isn’t as great as he seems). Then there’s the main love interest, Adrastus. I found Adrastus to be a bit cliche and your cookie cutter YA/NA fantasy love interest with his dark and brooding personality. Also, there was a scene where he pushes Kelera against the wall as an intimidation tactic, which was probably supposed to be hot but came across more as a red flag. I think I would have liked him more if he was the sole love interest, but now he’s just meh.

The pacing of this book is a bit strange. It felt too short, like it was just starting to hit its stride at around 70% in. The middle section got a bit repetitive, but even still, it did keep my interest the entire time and I didn’t find myself skimming.

This is a decent and well written read overall. I’ll definitely be reading the next in the series.

Described as These Hollow Vows meets Red Queen the Heir of Shadows and Fire is book one the Claiming Elfhame series by JM Wallace.

OMG @j.m.wallaceauthor you have done it again. 👏 🎉👏🎉

This epic start to the series was filled with magic, forbidden love, violence, and some scary scenes that made me gasp and look away from the page. It was exactly what I wanted in a fantasy book.

I loved the adventure to the Unseelie Court with Kelera, despite how scary it was and seeing the shadow and wintery dark magic used by the King and the princes of the Winter Court.

It broke my heart that she was held and claimed there like a prisoner, I just want her to unleash her powers and escape from the dangerous world.

However, in saying that I did swoon over the fact that Prince Dras nicknamed Kelera “little thief” and the way I imagined him saying it kind of made me weak at the knees. 🥵

Can Kelera make her way back home unscathed? You just got to read the book and find out.

Thank you so much JM Wallace for giving me the opportunity to review Heir of Shadow and Fire - I say bring on the sequel. 🙌

This is the first book in the Elfhame series and the first book that I e read by this author. This book seemed to move fast but it did take me a while to actually get into it. The character development and world building were great though. Very detailed, I liked that part.

Kelera is a halfling, human and fae-mortal girl, a royal faerie in the realm. Though she runs away from her fae side. But she soon embraces her magic when the kingdom is threatened. Leaving her fiancé behind, she enters Elfhame and risks everything to the Unseelie Court. Along the way she meets a halfblood Prince in the woods Adrastus. I love his loyalty and protectiveness. Despite their chemistry, she is engaged, and doesn’t immense herself with him.

Full with fantasy, magic, danger, secrets, action and so much more. Supporting characters were amazing and I loved Princess Cierinenqns what she does for Kelera. Prince Samael was your typical arse but so good. Small cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book to come out and see this world develop even more.

I received this arc and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

I’m not sure what I expected when I started reading Heir of Shadows and Ice. I went into this story rather blind and am happy I did. It was unexpected and unique in a good way—very different from other books I’ve read in the genre lately.

Heir of Shadows and Ice features Kelera, a part-mortal/part-fae girl, living in a mortal world. Growing up, she tries blend into the mortal realm as best she can, although many are wary of her fae blood. However, when a rescue mission goes awry and she’s captured in the fae realm, her future comes into question.

I love Kelera’s strength and tenacity. Seeing her develop throughout the book was a treat. The world that the author created is fantastic—and I can’t wait to experience more of it in book two!

If you like a badass female MC, intriguing court politics, and a touch of forbidden romance, Heir of Fire and Ice is a great read for you!

Note: This book ends on a cliffhanger, but book two is on the way!

Thank you to the author for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

If you haven’t added this one to your TBR, where in the bookstagram/booktok have you been? I read this one during a long work week and it was my reason to survive the day! I needed to know what was going to happen next and where it was going to end.

Kelera is that deep well put together female main character we all love. She doesn’t *totally* lose her focus for her main goal when the powerful Unseelie Prince Dras enters from stage right. (Can you blame her though? 🔥) But you see them wear each other down into a slow trust that starts moving into a slow burn. And the ending, gives you the closure for book one but leaves you ready to turn the page of book two!

I highly recommend for lovers of high fae fantasy and really just any fantasy lover. The author definitely peeked my interest with her reels and clock app videos. I wasn’t left disappointed.

I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I had a hard time getting into the story. The story is well written and you can see how much care is given into building the worlds and characters. The overall pace is good. However I felt it started getting more interesting once the MC got into the fae world.

The author, I believe, also dealt with a lot of the challenges we go through in our world, like how almost everyone behaves so as not to lose 'face', stereotypes people associate you with without trying to get to know you, issues surrounding mixed people and how they never seem to be really accepted by one or the other race.

Suspense wise, you will get your fill. There's so much to uncover and what a cliffhanger the author left us with! I am excited to read more!

"I am no hero, like it or not. I am just another monster in this fairytale"

Halfling, Fae-mortal girl, Kelera has spent her life denying the Fae blood that runs in her veins, shutting away the magic that calls to her. But when trouble strikes the heart of the kingdom, she finds she must do whatever it takes to help.

This book was a thrilling read and I loved the story that comes along with it. Kelara is a brave girl who has so much goodness in her heart. All of the fae princes had my emotions going everywhere and my blood pressure was going up with all of the action. Gadreel and Dras stole my heart with their kind hearts though. I gave this book 4/5 stars! It was slow in some parts of the book but the tension was high which helped me keep reading.

Hope to read the next book soon!

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS BOOK.

It is SO GOOD. Kelera, a half mortal-half fae, living in the mortal realm has spent her life trying to fit in and be the perfect mortal, while simultaneously suppressing her magic and her true self. She must venture into the Fae realm, Elfame, to bring back her only friend, the princess Cierine, after she is kidnapped by the unseelie. Now she must learn to navigate a world that goes against everything she knows from the mortal standards but feels right to her Fae heritage. She ends up trapped in the unseelie winter court, serving the royal family. Most are cruel, but a lot are not what she expected and she finds herself fighting the pull she feels to the youngest bastard prince, Adrastus.

I swooned every time he called her “little thief” and cannot wait to see what happens next.

This was my first ever ARC audiobook and I am here for it! The story is absolutely stunning with a great balance of politics, world building and character development. At first, the story was a bit of a slow start for me, but I am so glad that I persevered as the story picks up and I found myself ignoring the world around me just so I could keep listening - I was hooked!
The FMC and MMC are everything that I love but it was refreshing when they don’t lose all sense of self around each other. I am excited to see how Dras and Kelera’s relationship will develop in book 2!
Full of adventure, magic and danger, this book is a brilliant start to the Elfhame series and is a book that I will definitely recommend you add to your TBR immediately!

This is my honest review in exchange for the ARC that I received.

I was lucky enough to Beta read this stunning adventure! Between twists, turns and an AWESOME cliffhanger you will not be able to put this book down. I literally devoured this book from start to finish.

There are parts (without spoilers) that made me laugh out loud and others that shocked me!

Kelara starts off as a meeker character and grows into her own by the end. She keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next and will surprise you with a few choices. And the TWIST!!! OMG! Without spoiling the book, I did NOT expect that to happen 🤫🤐

I can not WAIT to get the next book and I know that it will be just as good. I am excited to see where Kelara’s story will take us and the rest of the Realm.

This was an exciting trip into Elfhame, where Kelera is forced to go and try to rescue her best friend after she is kidnapped by one of the Fae princes. Of course, nothing goes according to plan and she herself becomes stuck there.

Samiel is ruthless in his fight for power, and isn't afraid to use everyone else for his gains. While Kelera is better off under another prince, Adrastus, there seems to be a fight for everything between the brothers, especially Kelera's company.

As she learns information about her own heritage and Samiel's horrible plans, Kelera finds herself allying with Adrastus despite his cold demeanor towards her. While they fight for the kingdom of Elfhame, will they also find solace in one another for more than political reasons?

Finished in a day? Absolutely!

Today I listened to the audio version of this book and enjoyed every minute of it! J.M. Wallace wrote and engaging story and Ali Dane brought it to life. 10/10 recommend!

Kalera is a halfling and a bad ass. She's gotten shit her whole life from her human neighbors, even though she has done her absolute best at giving them zero reason to mistrust her. Now she's ended up hostage of the unseelie prince in a fight for her, and the assholes who treated her like crap, lives.

Who do we trust? I don't freaking know right now. I cannot wait to start book 2 tomorrow.

Huge thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book on Audible.

I really enjoyed this story, it took me a little while but it soon drew me in and then I couldn't put it down! A story with 3 courts: one Unseelie, one Mortal and one Seelie although this court doesn't feature much yet. The world building is fabulous and the characters are great! I'm not sure if like to meet all of them but they're quite believable. I'm looking forward to learning more about the Seelie court and meeting some more of the Fae, as well as seeing what happens next with Kelera's story

I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my favorite JM Wallace book to date! Kelera is such a good character!

Kelera halfling Fae who is trying to fit in in the mortal world that despises her kind. When her best friend is stolen away to the unseelie court Kelera goes off to rescue her. In the process she becomes a prisoner herself. She discovers dangerous plots and that she may just be stronger than she thinks.

I cannot wait for book 2 to see where this story goes!
