Found this book a “yawner”. At once point thought about not finishing it and then thought maybe it would redeem itself at the end. Like a tenth frame bowler! It never did for me. Felt it was repetitive in many places. There is a difference in being strong and assertive (as the main character was portrayed but I found her (Elizabeth Zott) rude and obnoxious. Felt she was closed minded - the opposite of what she professed. On the positive side … book was humorous, light reading (lots of fluff), easy and I loved the dog’s intelligence!
At first I put it down. Well, actually I was listening to audible. I stopped because it seemed in a way trite to me. But upon talking about the book with a few other people I realized maybe I should give it a try again. And I found it quite engaging. I grew up in those times of women's rights and being ignored. I would have been a different person had I paid more attention to myself. I'm glad I read it. It was fun and engaging afterall.
A fast read. Ice storm started on Monday and I read this Wednesday and Thursday. Interesting story, however I had some difficulty keeping all the characters separated. The 1950’s-60’s setting and the beginning of the women’s movement in education…particularly science was done well in historical fiction genre.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Having started working in the sixties I could feel for Elizabeth Zott working in a man’s world. We have come along way in the workplace with still many milestones to achieve and be recognized.
