Covens of Eaton Falls #5

A Traitor Shows His Hand

Rate this book
My power is seeing the darkness inside people, but can I learn how to use it to reveal our worst enemy?

This war is seriously getting on my nerves. It seems like every day there’s a new obstacle to overcome, but hopefully, it’s bringing us closer to the end of it all. But then what?

Living with the sexy vampire Geoffrey has me feeling all kinds of new things. On the surface, he’s kind and attentive, but underneath is a darker energy that intrigues me. I’ve always been drawn to what can’t be seen. I guess you could call it a gift, at least that’s what my aunt told me and my twin Jack.

When that gift shows up in a new way, a traitor is revealed, and Geoffrey and I become closer than ever. Now I’m learning how to be independent from my twin, how to love someone, and how to harness the power that’s been unleashed within me before our time runs out and the enemy wins. Piece of cake.

A Traitor Shows His Hand is an MM paranormal romance featuring a twin finding his individuality, a vampire with a dangerous backstory, a traitor giving the bad guy the upper hand, and a war that just won’t go away. It is book five of six in the Covens of Eaton Falls series starring Maverick and Geoffrey. Each book features a different couple with an ongoing conflict and therefore should be read in order.

“I believe that insecurity and fear are just our mind’s way to protecting our hearts from further damage, but sometimes it works well and we miss out joy."

“Someone will love you, Maverick. Someone beyond your wildest dreams. Someone willing to wait for when you are ready. "

This was an excellent instalment

I liked this entry in the series, there's plenty going on and the relationship between Maverick and Geoffrey is different to the others because of the twin factor.

Maverick is a sweetheart, he's navigating how to be independent of Jack and also dealing with his changing powers and the nature of knowing he's vulnerable being a witch.

There's some rapid plot updates too, which, again, have an edge of "convenience for narrative sake" but that I was willing to go with the flow on.

At times there's been a bit more tell than show overall in the series, but the stories stand well as entertaining paranormal romance.

So Good

I can't get enough of this series. With each book we get more and more exciting drama and a great HEA. I'm really looking forward to the series finale and the next HEA.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

This is my new favourite of the series. It really concentrates on the relationships especially between the two main characters, G and Maverick, and between twin brothers Maverick and Jack. The storyline is noticeably approaching the grand finale and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. The dialogue felt a little stilted sometimes and some things the (original) vampires say can be perceived as quite condescending but that did not lessen my enjoyment of the story.
It is a low-angst, supernatural love story without major conflicts between the lovers. For the full experience and to avoid confusion the story should definitely not be read as a standalone.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great continuation of the Covens of Eaton Falls series with another couple coming together and further development with the overall series arc.
Maverick and Geoffrey have been attracted to each other for a long time but something has been holding Maverick back. His connection to his twin, Jack, is intense and necessary, what he's known his whole life. You can feel his yearning for something more with Geoffrey but also his reluctance and fear of leaving his brother's side. Maverick and Jack have been fun to read so far, known for their darkness, we only now get to see what abilities they have and it's interesting to read how that progresses, especially for Maverick once he connects with his mate. The couple dance around things for a little while but I enjoyed the way that Maverick makes the decision to be his own person, separate from Jack, though he in no way wants to distance himself from his brother. The couple are equally hot and endearing together, sharing a lot of sweet moments and comments but are not afraid to raise the level when alone.
The series plot regarding the war gets deeper as secrets are revealed from the other side about who has been helping/giving information. There are further attacks on the covens and magic used to contact a reaper and a god. The group now consists of vampire, witches, hybrids and a demon which, with the upcoming battle in the final book is a huge plus, now they just need to use everything the end up with at their disposal.
I also like the progress made between Willem, Jack and Prince. This is also a possible relationship that has been developing over time but takes huge strides here. I was surprised with how much happened considering this is Maverick and Geoffrey's book but it leaves us in a great place to start the final book. I'm very interested to see how they move forward together whilst also facing the final battle to ensure they win the war.
Another great paranormal romance from Mia Monroe. I've loved the characters and story line throughout. It's not especially heavy and allows a slow build up of the plot with bits of action and drama dotted through whilst allowing each member of the vampire a witch covens to find their mates.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I am really enjoying the Covens of Eaton Falls series, once again, I like the way the books continue on from the previous one and things don't get rehashed all over again. I can't believe we are nearly at the end, only one more book to go until we find out how this war will turn out for everyone involved.

In a Traitor Shows His Hand things are really starting to heat up and move along, there was plenty going on, with 'The Beautiful One' showing more of his hand, more power-hungry bad guys and of course, more romance.

While I was hoping this would be Willem's book, Mia Monroe has saved that for the final battle and I can't wait for that potential love triangle to play out.

I really liked getting to know Jack and Maverick better, the twins have had a bit of the unknown about them and I loved learning of their twin connection and the power they had together and individually.
Learning to be separated from each other was tough for Maverick and Jack, but it is what they both need to be able to move forward and grow into their individual potential and find their own soulmates. Jack had a lot to deal with in this book, which sets up the final relationship for the last book Demons Are So annoying. Jack and Prince have a deeper connection than he imagined and it was enjoyable to see how his attitude towards Prince changed as he was forced to spend time with him while he was still in his vulnerable state. I think sparks are really going to fly in the next book. as Jack, Prince and Willem figure things out.

Geoffrey was completely besotted with Maverick and though at first neither thought they could possibly be together for various reasons, once they make that jump they are both all in, and for Maverick this really helps him come into his own hidden powers. I thought Maverick and Geoffrey were perfect for each other and complemented each other well, I liked how they both supported each other through every turn and learned to communicate what they were thinking and feeling.

While they have managed to find out much more about what is going on with the war that has been waged against them, and there were some surprises in store in that department, I can only imagine there is going to be plenty more action, chaos and magic to come before the war is over. I hope they don't lose too many more of their friends in order to save the world.

,,If for some reason the universe decided that the two of you should be in each other's lives, then that's what happens."

I've been thinking a lot lately about how some writers can write and publish 4-5 books in a year - like this.
How they write books like that.

I'm aware that if I want to read a really good fantasy novel, or just a good paranormal romance, I don't necessarily have to turn to Mia Monroe's work, because that reads - not bad - a little off-putting - finish - forget.
And that's fine, that's all.

The problem now was that she wanted to be more than she was, but she didn't put the work in.

If you want a decent supernatural world in your book, work for it.
Read up on it, design it, and build it.
How did ?
If you want a gripping, intricate plot, then figure it out.

We're right back where we were at the beginning of the first part of the story.
We're barely moving forward, it seems like something is going on, but in the meantime it's nowhere - nothing, the threads that are supposed to be exciting are intertwined and absolutely not elaborated - each scene lasts roughly 2 minutes in reality.

The characters have no personality, they are all the same prototype and we actually have no information about them.
Thinking back, I have almost no idea what any of the characters look like.
If I gave a character description, it would fit all of them.

The fated mates trope... Not his strong point anyway, but he gets weaker and weaker with each new volume.
They barely speak, but they are in love.
They are perfectly fine on their own, but they can't live without each other.
They have no relationship, but the feelings between them, well, they're something.

How can you write a vampire and witch book and almost skip this part?

Her next book will be a - she won't be able to write it.
Take a break instead.

"Long before I knew more than your name, you were part of me. You will be until time ends."

Well if that isn't romantic AF I honestly don't know what is. Geoffrey and Maverick were very cute together. I loved how Geoffrey was so respectful of Maverick. He gave him the time and space needed for Maverick to be comfortable with how his life was changing. His whole life it's been him and Jack against the world. The twins are rarely apart and Maverick makes almost all of his decisions with his twin in mind. It's a big change for him to start to have some of his own independence. A big change, but one I felt was needed in order for Maverick to know his own mind and be content in his budding relationship with Geoffrey. Geoffrey understood this and though it wasn't easy, he was patient with his witch.

There is good forward motion with the plot. Things are moving faster than before and the end game is most definitely in sight. All of the vamps are being pretty protective of their mates, or future mates as is the case with Willem, Jack, and Prince. There's a bit of forward motion on that as well, and we get some insight through talks Jack has with Maverick. Speaking of talks, there is a scene where the witches are all talking and trying to convince the vampires to start speaking less formal. The way the vampires talk is something I really love about this series so I am hoping it's not going to be a permanent change they enact. There's just something so romantic about the way they speak, especially when professing their feelings. Geoffrey is especially eloquent in his declarations to Maverick. I may or may not have actually swooned. Looking forward to the final installment and hopefully some dragon or fae spin offs to come!

The next to last book in this series brings us some answers, and a whole lot of anticipation for the resolution to the war. I’ve been looking forward to Maverick and Jack’s stories, and here we get Maverick’s.

Mav and Geoffrey have been a long time coming. Mav has been drawn to G from the beginning, he just didn’t act on it. I will say that it took me longer than I would have liked to connect with Mav and G. While I definitely wanted them together and wanted things to work out for them, I did find the evolution of their relationship a bit…slow. The surrounding storyline of Willem, Jack and Prince seemed to overshadow the plot of Traitor. Mav and G seemed almost like a vehicle to get us to the end of the series.

However, once Mav and G were on the same page with their relationship, I was all about it. I loved how confident Maverick grew to be. He knew what he wanted, and he wasn’t afraid the express those wants to Geoffrey. He even got downright demandy when G was hesitant. I also really liked Mav’s power and the way he held his own with the demons. I think he is going to be a real asset for the epic conclusion to this series. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I was HIGHLY pleased with how things went with Jack towards the end of the book. I think it will make things easier as Willem, Jack and Prince navigate their relationship.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this series ends. It’s been highly entertaining and well written. Mav and G turned out to be a really lovely couple, I just felt like I needed to give them a shove in the right direction every once in a while. 3.75 stars rounded up to 4.

Maverick and his twin, Jack, have always been able to see the darkness in people. And that power has made them feel like outcasts, even in their own coven, always relying on each other, and leaning on each other. But now all of that has changed.

With the war drawing ever nearer, the twins have to make some very difficult decisions, and grow in ways they never imagined. But this makes them all the stronger, both apart and together. And the more Maverick comes into his own, the more he wants to build a future with Geoffrey, or G.

G is more than willing to be patient with Maverick as he works through what it means to become his own person, and to learn more about himself, away from Jack. They both know they've been drawn together for a reason, and they take their time exploring that, even with the revelation that they're mates.

It feels like all the pieces have come together - except for the tension between Jack, Willem, and Prince (a witch we've encountered in previous books from a neighbouring coven) - and the final battle is about ready to begin. The entire plot of the war did, indeed, become a lot more convoluted, but I was perhaps a little hasty in my previous reviews.

While this whole thing is extremely messy and complex, somehow the answer was staring me right in the face and I totally missed it. Knowing what I know now, everything suddenly makes a lot more sense, and everything has become extremely clear.

That being said, we're in the home stretch now, tensions are high, and it's all or nothing. It's going to be very interesting to see how this all ends, seeing as getting to this point was one hell of a ride so far.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Covens of Eaton Falls Series. Even though each book in this series features a new set of fated mates, you definitely need to read each book as the conflict continues throughout the whole series. Geoffrey and Maverick have been tip toeing around each other for a bit now. It’s obvious that they’re attracted to each other but Maverick doesn’t believe he can focus on his love life while his twin Jack isn’t in the same place. Geoffrey was so understanding about Maverick and Jack’s connection and their powers, and told Maverick that he’d happily wait for him as he really cares about him.

Luckily Jack realises that Maverick is holding off on letting himself love and be loved by Geoffrey so Jack decided to go back to Willem’s and keep and eye one Prince while he’s still in a healing sleep, no matter how weird Jack, Prince and Willem’s situation is. I thought that Geoffrey and Maverick were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. I really liked that there was a lot more action and adventure during this book than the previous one. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book, but it’s also bitter sweet since it’s the final book of the series. It’s finally Jack, Prince & Willem’s turn and their journey to get their happily ever after isn’t going to be an easy one that’s for sure, made even harder because of the stupid war. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

Another great installment in this series! If you enjoy a compelling series arc paired with satisfying romance and smoldering intimacy, definitely don’t miss the Covens of Eaton Falls. Because of the sequence of events in the overall series, these are best read in order.

Something I love about this series is just how consistent it is. This is the fifth of six books, and the characters, action and romance are just as solid and present as they were in the beginning. This installment gives us the first of the twins’ - Maverick & Jack - stories, and I’m so happy to finally learn the secrets of their powers and connection.

Part of that consistency is also knowing what to expect from the relationship between Maverick & Geoffrey. In some ways it’s a bit repetitive to experience the witch/vampire pairings in each book, because some elements are prominently featured each time, but I find the circumstances surrounding each to be different enough to keep them interesting. Maverick and Geoffrey’s connection has been evident for a while, and it’s satisfying to see it finally flourish. I also love how their relationship happens at *just* the right time to have maximum impact in the ongoing war.

I’m definitely looking forward to what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to this series. Who will prevail - good or evil? Can Prudence be stopped? How will it all end? I’ll have to wait and see!

I am truly enjoying this series. I really like Maverick and Geoffrey and think that they are lovely together. Geoffrey understands that Mav is waiting for his brother to be in the same place, in life, as he is. Good thing Jack is are out this and pushes Maverick to get who he wants.

There is so much revealed in this book. We meet more players on the opposite side of the brewing war and how the whole thing got started. A goddess shows up and does her thing. Maverick loses important connections and gains more.

I love how everything played out and think we are in a good place to to into the next book. I can't wait to see what happens next and how everything evolves. I think the twins get to shine in this book and we learn so much more about them and how they operate. Geoffrey lets Maverick and Jack feel comfortable with who they are and trusting that he will support them and listen to their concerns. He and Maverick do well together and he supports the connection that Mav has with Jack.

You would definitely check out this series, but you need to read the books in order since it is an overarching storyline.

★★★★ STARS!!
The war is coming to an end and I'm so looking forward to see this conclusion. The continuing plot has me so damn hooked and each couple finding love makes this series a whole lot sweeter. This book is about Geoffrey and Maverick. I was really curious to see how the twins would do with being apart from each other. It was bitter sweet because they have such a special bond.

Maverick is hesitant to start anything with Geoffrey because he worries about his twin Jack. He's really sweet and considerate of his brother's feelings while trying to become independent. I love how patient Geoffrey is. When these two finally give in, it's sweet and sexy. These vampires are so romantic and poetic. I love it.

As much as I like this book, I feel like a lot of it revolves around the whole Willem, Prince and Jack thing. There wasn't much focus on Maverick and Geoffrey and they're evolving relationship. I would've liked to see more of the romance side. I still enjoyed the story and I'm really excited for the next book.

Things are moving fast now, and we’re getting some answers! I’m fascinated to see how this will end in the final book. I’m in love with these covens of delicious vampires and witches.

Maverick is a twin. And though he’ll admit to having feelings for Geofreey, the patient vampire, he struggles with what it means to go his own way without his twin. It’s sweet really the bond they have. But he begins to understand that it’s okay to have his own life, separate from one another.

Geoffrey is lovely, so understanding and patient. I wanted nothing more than for him to get his own beautiful romance. It’s not easy watching all your friends find love while knowing the one you want is right in front of you, just out of reach.

Thankfully, these two manage to find themselves and each other in the chaos of the war they are facing.

I feel the plot is getting weaker as the story advances. There’s no sense of urgency here. They know there’s a traitor witch but no one goes researching on that. They find out a dragon is possessed and no ones says a thing. This said “war” is weird when there’s no attacks, no one dies, the bad guy runs away every single time and can’t go to the human realm.
The twins share a bond that made them too dependent on each other. It felt weird when they can’t even spend some time apart. Jack asking his brother to change him felt like a betrayal to Willem because he did it in a coward way without communicating his need for his brother to do it and the reason. The change is also inconsistent. Why Presley lost his witch powers but not the others? Maverick’s powers actually feels stronger now. The way they do a change is such a non-event that is surprising the world is not overflowing with vampires. At least the “Immortal Assassins” series that is on the same world, their change is heavily thought for each mate and there’s more consideration to the process.

With "A Traitor Shows His Hand" we are approaching the end of the Covens of Eaton Falls series. We finally get more of Maverick and Jack's story. While Maverick and Geoffrey are the focus of the story, Jack is still an important part of Maverick's life. Of course all the other vampires and their witches are there too. As the mystery continues to unfold there are twists, turns, some surprises and steamy vampire-witch romance. To say the story pulled me in would be an understatement, once I picked it up I could not put it down. I read the book from start to finish in one sitting. I was so invested in the story I could not bring my self to stop. As sad as I will be to leave Eaton Falls, I cannot wait for the final book.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow okay so finally we get *some* answers in this one and I am still loving the continuation of the plot. This whole series has a certain magic about it honestly! I can’t believe this is the second to last one.

Okay so now to Maverick and G. I’ll be honest it was a little on the slow side for longer than I wanted. It took them a long time to get on the same page and because they’ve already been a long time coming I found it a bit frustrating. However once they got it together they were sweet heat all the way. G was so patient and kind it was pretty adorable but I started to feel bad for him at points and again I wanted a little more romance and action within just their romance.

Overall I am hooked on the overall plot of this series and while this one wasn’t my favorite so far it still was engaging, sweet, and steamy. I’m looking forward to the past in the series!

This is the penultimate story of the Covens of Eaton Falls and the storyline arc is really amping up. One final battle the witches, vampires and their paranormal allies need to be ready for. Book 5 follows Maverick, one of the “homicidal-adjacent” twins, and his vampire protector, Geoffrey. Maverick and his twin are wondering what they can contribute to the fight, as they don’t believe their power is anything useful. As we come to see Maverick’s particular power, once he embraces it, is awesome and instills fear in the demons attempting to combat it. Geoffrey will do anything to protect Maverick, especially as he realizes that he loves him and he is his mate. They are a perfect pairing once they get together. I am looking forward to the covens obliterating the demon threat, while also looking forward to the triad story between Willem, Jack and Prince 🔥.

Being a vampire for hundreds of years means that Geoffrey has developed a healthy dose of patience and he shows just how much he loves and respects Maverick by putting him in the driver's seat of all of the romantic decisions... despite knowing that Maverick is his fated mate... and it was sweet and romantic and I ate it up with a swoony spoon...

The overarching story had a lot of moving parts in this installment and while Maverick's part in that was strong and sometimes exciting, I felt like this time it took away from the romance storyline more than it has in other books. I'm exciting to see where Monroe takes the storyline and how Willem, Jack, and Prince factor into the final storyline. This book needs to be read as the 5th book in the series, as the ongoing suspense plot would be very hard to understand without the entire storyline.

Oof Gregory and Maverick are so freaking cute. Mav trying to learn to live without being so attached to the one person he spent his entire life with.. his twin. They share an incredible bond. Nervous about living apart as they're really only had each other to understand. But Gregory is a patient vampire and adores Mav and very understanding regarding the brothers and their bond. They take it slow getting to know one another. And the twins worry about the "darkness" of their power.
Meanwhile the plot thickens with the war that is coming to head. I absolutely love how each witch plays an important role in this war regardless if they're a hybrid or not. I especially love the twins power it is so different from what I was expecting. I enjoyed this addition to the series a great deal.

“You are everything, Maverick.” He kisses my lips softly. Too briefly. “And no one will ever tear us apart. Not the war, not a demon, not the gods themselves. I would sooner destroy the world than let you go.”

Oh these vampires and the magical way they have with words. It makes my heart so bubbly and squishy. The love that Mav finds with Geoffrey, stubborn though he is, is ever more so special because of everything it represents. I am so proud for and of Mav, and just want to take a bite out of these two; they’re that yummy. Gah, the conclusion cannot arrive fast enough. I’m beyond happy with how events are progressing and all we learned, like whoa, but now I’m even more ready for this fangtastic found family to find their peace and happiness.

‘A Traitor Shows His Hand’ is the penultimate book in what has been a highly enjoyable paranormal series. Mav and G have been a long time coming and Mav has been fighting their connection because of his twin, but he finally can’t fight it anymore! Mav’s witch powers were very cool and I really enjoyed seeing him develop them. I have enjoyed how Mia Monroe has taken a slightly different stance on fated mates but makes it clear they are very much so. This is not meant to be read as a standalone, each book covers a different pairing but the greater storyline spans the series. The final book is almost here so do yourself a favour and dive in with book 1! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Finally get some more insight into Maverick and Jack's relationship and start to see them as individuals as they start to connect with their fated mates. This story focuses on Maverick and Geoffrey as they move towards a relationship as the twins start to separate. Added in more information about the beautiful one and his plans we get more details on what is coming in the finale. I've been interested in the twins since the first book and it was sweet how G waited until Maverick was ready to be more independent from Jack before he tried to build a relationship so they had a slow burn romance that led to a steamy romance and a stronger connection. I'm eager to read the final book in this series and can't wait until it's released.

A Traitor Shows His Hand is Geoffrey and Mavericks story. They have fantastic chemistry and are just so delicious together.
This series is incredibly romantic and hot AF! This is a continuation of an already established story line so I recommend reading it in order.

As always, our vampire is respectful of his witches need for space. Mav needs some space and time to figure things out. His very close bond to his twin has always overshadowed everything else, whether he liked it or not and he has to figure out how life will work if he gets together with G. Geoffrey never pushes him. Once they're on the same page, their communication and dedication to each other is so lovely to read.

The saga continues in this book and I'm so invested in the drama. There are several twists and turns that you don't see coming. I can't wait to sew how it all ends... even if I'm already a little heartbroken that there's only one book left.

Coming into this one, I wasn't sure if I cared enough about the twins at this point, considering they haven't really been in a lot of the rest of the series. I also really didn't get any sense of personality with Geoff, so I didn't know what to expect here. The chemistry was a bit more interesting than the insta love we've gotten so far. My real problem with this one is the "reveal" of the "traitor." This felt like such a let down after teasing this conflict for the last few books. I was in my head, trying to figure out/narrow down who we've read about so far in this core group who could be the traitor. I felt underwhelmed by the danger here and no one really won or lost yet, so I guess I'll have to read the last book to find out how they all get out of this mess.

I have enjoyed every book in this series, this latest one included. Mia Monroe has done some fantastic world-building, and her supernatural creatures are exciting without being too over the top; they seem like they would blend in well with the real world, which they are.
Geoffery and Maverick (Mav) are the latest couple in the series, and I was excited to read about the twins. Their journey has not gone unnoticed by the bad guys in the series, nor has their character growth by the readers. Also, the character growth of Augustus and Leo has been strong throughout the series, as well as their powers. Geoffery and Mav had some hurdles and their own mental blocks to get over as they discovered their love for each other.
I am excited and sad for the next novel - excited because we get to hear Jack's struggles and read about his mateS - and sad that that will be the last novel in the series. Overall this has been a fun series to read!

Another great one from the covens of Eaton Falls! We’ve got some more answers and we’re pretty sure what the last move will be. I didn’t realize how excited I was for the conclusion of this war until I started writing this. So much has been building towards this and we’ll finally know it all after the next book! So bittersweet, I love this series but I so need all the answers. I’ve been anticipating the twins’ story since I’ve found out about these murder-adjacent moody brothers. Maverick’s did not disappoint. I LOVED seeing him come into his powers. They were my favorite so far. The demon part in the club was the absolute best. Geoffrey’s patience pays off. I swear, these vampires could teach a master class in being patient for your mate. I loved all the action. I’ve been so excited to learn more of Willem, Jack and Prince. It is very fitting they are the last book of the series.

A Traitor Shows His Hand is the fifth book of this fantastic mm paranormal romance story. The book follows the witch, Maverick, and Vampire Geoffrey's story. The book is filled with witches, vampires, demons, and other paranormal beings. The book is well written and I enjoyed the story, the sass and quirky characters, and all the steam. The characters and love story develop over the course of the book and it has all the action, adventure, and romance you could ever want in a series. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the final installment. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This series is so good!! I'm a fan of the author and like everything I've read of hers. I'm also a huge fan of paranormal romances so this series checks all my boxes. In this book we finally get Maverick and Geoffrey's story. I really like seeing Maverick take steps to separate (a little) from his twin and do what he needs for himslef. I like that we get more on the ongoing storyline and can't wait to see the conclusion! This is a series I will likely binge in the future. And if they were ever to be made in audio format, I'd definitely listen to them. This is an ongoing story, though, so definitely read the previous books in the series before diving into this book.
