Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter:

This book and its characters really touched my heart! Stormi is a photographer for Emerson Pass’s newspaper, and Huck is the grumpy owner of the paper who doesn’t like her. But when they are stranded together, they finally get to know the truth about each other, the scars they keep hidden, the pain that haunts them both. Huck and Stormi are vivid characters who wedged their way into my heart, as they slowly and warily opened up to each other. It was fun to watch them transition from people who sparred on a daily basis, to discovering the reasons behind their reluctance to trust each other, and to finally tearing down the walls and becoming vulnerable. I love this series that Tess Thompson has created in these stories about Emerson Pass, in which she writes both historical and contemporary fiction. Such a clever idea, and I look forward to them all!

A beautiful enemies to lovers romance.

The Correspondent, a book #4 in a Emerson Pass Contemporaries series is just what I've been waiting for and a lot more! Another phenomenal story. Stormi and Huck were destined for each other and despite whatever they would do against it -forgetfulness, ignorance and even hatefulness for each other won't work. Fate takes it seriously and forces them in an inescapable stranded situation to work through their antagonistic feelings, insecurities and demons of their past. Obviously the near death experience makes you vulnerable but also opens your mind and heart too.
Forgiveness, kindness and love are the key for happiness and that's what about this book was. It makes you smile and cry. I absolutely adored this story. It was like visiting with family and old friends.

While I have enjoyed reading Tess Thompson’s Emerson Pass series, I do have to admit that the story line is getting a bit predictable. This contemporary story (book 4) is an entertaining read, but one knew from the first few pages how it was going to end. She doesn’t like him, she annoys him…and bam, next they are in love. The story line moved fast and before we knew it, the couple was together…the end.

“ We’d lost a lot in the accident but found so much more.”

We all have that dream of who we would like to be stranded on a desert island or snowed in with, however it’s never the boss who dislikes us.

This is exactly what happens to Stormi and Huck… Stormi’s boss
Huck doesn’t really like her it appears, he is completely closed off due all he had seen and been through in Afghanistan.

Caught in a blizzard, finding shelter in a remote cabin, limited food, limited heat, no Internet access to the outside world… Can they make it through, or will their dislike of each other be their downfall.

I instantly liked Stormi , Huck took a little warming up to… But I love returning to Emerson Pass over and over the past or present and revisiting friends!

The Correspondent is a heartwarming story that made me alternately smile and tear up throughout. Stormi and Huck’s tale uses two of my favorite tropes-enemies to lovers and forced proximity. These two characters each put up walls to protect themselves emotionally and as a result leads to an antagonistic working relationship between the two. Themes of friendship, love and forgiveness are woven throughout this Emerson Pass installment. It’s always a joy to revisit these characters who feel like friends. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Author Tess Thompson has another winning book in the Emerson Pass contemporary series. Characters Stormi Collins(wedding photographer) and Huck Clifton(a journalist) may seem at a glance to be the most unlikely to become a couple, yet you can tell they were meant for each other. It’s the classic love hate relationship that makes a great story. Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

When I began this book I was deeply disappointed and confused at the writing style. Tess is a brilliant author and this wasn't her style.Reading an arc I finished and was surprised the last part of the book was brilliant. Its almost as if two people wrote this. This is a remarkable series.

The Correspondent Of Emerson Pass

By: Tess Thompson

5 Stars

I knew that Huck and Stormi were going to have one wild ride of a story and I was NOT disappointed.

Huck owns the small paper in Emerson Pass. His last job as an overseas news correspondent has left him with many scars. Since being home he has found it easier to stay closed off from his friends and family because of a past he can't seem to forget or seem to even talk about.
The one person who gets the brunt of that anger at times is Stormi Collins.

Stormi knows what it means to have a hard life. From growing up in a rough background, to being poor for as long as she can remember, she knows how to deal with unpleasant things. So her job as the photographer of the paper with her very unpleaseant boss, Huck Clifton, is just one on the very long list of things to not seem to go her way. A new job at the art gallery and an uptick in clients of her wedding photography business, has set Stormi up with the ability to quit the paper and that means getting away from her horrid boss, too bad she will miss the job photographing Emerson Pass.

2 Rivals, a roadtrip, and a snowstorm. Sounds like the beginning of a joke, or in my world, a really awesome story.

You find all these in this book, but you also find an amazingly heartwarming story of forgiveness and love. Stormi and Huck were not the two voted most likely to be friends, let alone, in a relationship. When they find time to mend fences, they realize that they have more in commen than they ever thought to notice. From rivals, to friends to romance. When they take the time to see each other, they really see each other, and help each other in ways neither could have comprehended.

I absolutely loved the story of Huck and Stormi. Huck has such a hard past that caring for him was easy from the start. Stormi was so very relatable tough, but sweet. Honestly, Huck was relatable too. She has a story that I can very easily relate to based on my own past. Huck reminds me of someone I know very well. Together these two make one heck of an amazing duo. This was such a hard review to write because I wanted to spill all the amazing details of this story, but, with this story, Tess once again showed how well she can bring to a reader an amazing story. Full of not only warmth and forgiveness, but full of love and light as well.

Huck and Stormi had a good night before he left for Afghanistan.  That was it.  Right?

Stormi left her life behind after a birthday with Indiana Jones than changed her life forever.  They talked at the bar and he encouraged her to follow her dreams.  So she packed up and moved to Emerson Pass.  Before the big fire, she had a photography business and was doing very well for herself.  After though, she was working with her boss Huck at the paper and worked at the Pub in town to pay the bills.

Huck was always rude and short with her.  She couldn’t wait for the new place to open so she never had to see him again.

When she put in her 2 weeks at the newspaper, he blew her off and told her he already had a replacement for her.  But he needed her to photograph the book release for his dad.

That night, Huck got some bad news about a friend from Afghanistan that really put him in a bad place.  But they were able to put their hatred aside and had a decent night.

On the way home, they got stuck in a blizzard and crashed the car, losing everything when the car crashed into the river.  They made it out and broke into a cabin off the lake.  There they found out how much alike they are and Stormi remembered meeting Huck at the Halloween party at the bar on that faithful birthday.   As they really got to know each other, Stormi opened up about how terrible her mother was and about her childhood and Huck opened up, finally, to how bad it was in Afghanistan during the war and why he was keeping everyone away.  They both wondered if they would ever be able to find someone they would want to spend the rest of their life with.

Love and Hate are often times confused.  Who would have thought a blizzard, a car crash, and a week with no electronics would be just what the doctor ordered to help Stormi and Huck figure out what was in front of them all along????

I loved this story of Huck and Stormi. Huck has always intrigued me, because I knew he couldn’t be as mean as he appeared, his friends wouldn’t be his friends if he was. How he first met Stormi was cute and I was happy with how they both remembered.
Huck acts like he doesn’t want to settle down, because of what happened while he was a war correspondent. He treats her like he doesn’t like her, even though that is the furthest thing from the truth. When they go on a weekend work trip, which is also a function that his family attends, the walls they both have erected start crumbling and they realize their true feelings for the other.
Stormi doesn’t understand why Huck hates her and is dreading going to this work function. She is sweet and kind, but wants to be out of his orbit. When a car accident occurs, and strands them with no way to communicate with their families, she realizes he is hiding a lot of his true self.
I loved their connection and how they realized they each brought something to the relationship the other needed. I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

In this classic enemies-to-lovers romance, Stormi and Huck can only see the negative in each other, while everyone else sees the sparks of attraction firing between them. Stormi, an accomplished photographer, struggles to make ends meet until she's offered the chance to run the new art gallery in Emerson Pass. Excited to move on, she gives notice to quit her job as photojournalist at the local newspaper.

Huck, the owner of the local newspaper, is scarred from his time as a war correspondent in Afghanistan. He suffers from PTSD, is writing fluff stories and pushing everyone close to him away. Before letting Stormi quit, he convinces her to help him on one last job.

After driving there together, a sudden blizzard on the return trip sends their car careening off the road into the freezing river. Thanks to Huck's fast thinking, they escape the sinking car and take refuge in a nearby cabin. With no phones or computers, they struggle to survive while fighting their mutual attraction.

Thank you to Tess Thompson and the publisher for an Advance Reader Copy of The Correspondent. It's a fun read that will trigger tears.

The Correspondent by Tess Thompson
This is the story of Stormi and Huck whose relationship goes from a forgotten chance meeting, to boss and employee, to “going steady”….all thanks to a snow storm.
Huck, upon returning from Afghanistan as a war correspondent, buys the local paper in Emerson pass. Although, not his dream job, it will do. Stormi has dreams of being a wedding photographer. The job at the paper is a means to an end. Huck is grumpy and Stormi tries to keep her distance and just do her job. A chance to photograph Huck’s father’s book signing sends her world spiraling out of control.
Stuck in a cabin with Huck was not how Stormi saw the job ending. However, it brings both Stormi and Huck’s past traumas to light. They are each able to help each other see the value in themselves and ultimately find love.
This is a great addition to the Emerson Pass series. Pick it up!! You won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic forced proximity romance!

Huck and Stormi have a tenuous, guarded working relationship, so neither knows what to expect when they're suddenly stranded together in a blizzard for days. Near-death experiences are sure to make one reevaluate one's outlook on life, and this author takes full advantage of every opportunity for her characters to face their inner demons, insecurities, undeniable attraction, and more.

I loved getting to know Huck underneath all those grumpy layers he's been protecting himself with, and Stormi was an absolute delight. Their history is so much more complex than I thought from seeing them earlier in this series. Their deep connection may have lain dormant for a long time, but their hearts knew the truth long before they could admit it to themselves.

I loved every part of this charming story. The pacing was perfect, the passion was intense (with closed-door intimacy), and the emotions were raw and heartfelt. As much as I've loved all the previous books, this is hands-down my favorite of the Emerson Pass Contemporary romances, and I highly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Emerson Pass is the kind of town we wish we all lived in! This latest edition of Tess Thompson’s contemporary series (she also has a historical series in the same town) does not disappoint! Although who am I kidding? A Tess Thompson book never disappoints. She is a talented writer who always gives us great characters in interesting circumstances. This is the story of grumpy newspaper owner Huck and wedding photographer Stormi, who also works for him at the paper trying to make ends meet. We’ve seen these two in previous books in the series and knew there had to be something brewing behind their dislike of each other. Being stranded together during a snowstorm in a remote cabin with no contact with the outside world gives them the time they need to figure out what’s hidden beneath the surface of these two people with troubled pasts. I thoroughly enjoyed this enemies to lovers story and I think you will too!

Tess Thompson’s newest book in her contemporary Emerson Pass series is finally here! It’s the story of Huck and Stormi, two of the most interesting characters in Emerson Pass. I was really interested to see how Huck and Stormi would manage to fall in love when from the outside, they appeared to hate each other.

I loved finally learning Huck’s back story. It’s been hinted at throughout the books, so I was glad to find out why he is the way he is. Until this book, I was pretty neutral on him, but after reading this, I definitely appreciate him more.

The accident that happens was the perfect thing to bring them together. It forced them to rely on each other for survival and allowed them to truly get to know each other.

The Correspondent is another fantastic read from Tess Thompson. I’m excited for whatever she releases next!

The Emerson Pass series is one of my top favorites by written by Tess Thompson. When I came upon the news that she just finished writing, The Correspondent, I excitedly downloaded it immediately to delve into the lives of Stormi and Huck. These two complicated individuals have carried a lot of emotional baggage through their lives which has toughened them in different but also similar ways. Forced into an unfortunate situation, together they begin to learn each other’s struggles through life. When their secrets are revealed, will they form a needed friendship that they are both deserving of? To answer this question, I strongly recommend this book to everyone who is a fan of mystery and romance. Thank you, Tess Thompson, for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I am always blown away how your books just keep getting better and better!!!

Thanks to the generosity of the author and publisher, I was allowed to read an Advance Reader Copy. The following review is solely mine.
Stormi has fought for every accomplishment and finally, things seem to be looking up for her. She is looking forward to her new position at The Gallery.
Huck was a war correspondent and came home a scarred man. The things he saw during the war left him hardened. He is now the owner of the local newspaper and writing fluff stories. A relationship is NOT in his future.
Stormi has resigned her job as photographer for the newspaper, but agrees to complete one last job with Huck. On the return trip, a sudden blizzard causes them to drive into the river. Thanks to Huck's fast thinking, they escape the sinking car and find a cabin to take refuge in.
Neither of them planned to fall in love, but...

Once you peel yourself away from the gorgeous book cover, you will find a beautiful and heartwarming story of Stormi Collins and Huck Clifton. He is the owner of the local newspaper, Emerson Pass Tribune and she is his staff photographer. On the surface, they are as compatible as oil and vinegar, but an unexpected twist of fate will change their life's path forever.

Can these two opposites remove their emotional armor and work together to survive after a near death experience? My suggestion is to grab this book and settle in with a favorite beverage to find out!
Tess Thompson's Emerson Pass series is just brilliant. Her character development is both interesting and so real that you feel like you already know the characters.

I not only highly recommend this book but the entire Emerson Pass historical and contemporary series.

We finally get to see what lies underneath the grumpy exterior of Huck Clifton. The experience they have together gives him the necessary prompt to finally reflect on what's been bothering him from his past and with Stormi. Though it is a trope, it's written in a way that totally makes sense that they would open up with each other. They have both been through a lot and they have a connection that probably could only happen with people that had both been through difficult challenges.

An enjoyable and engaging read.

I was very pleased with this book. Based on Ms. Thompson's other Emerson Pass Contemporary novels, I did not like the character Huck up to this point. I found him rude, grumpy, and with few redeeming characteristics. This book was able to develop his character in a realistic and understanding way, providing the reader with more background regarding why Huck behaved as he did. The setting of the book, a cabin Huck and Stormi found together in a snowstorm, provided the right small location for the two to explore their pasts together and discover whether they would like to move forward together. Well done, Tess Thompson! I really did not expect to like this novel and I did. I would recommend it. Thank you to the author and the publisher for an advanced review copy. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoy the Emerson Pass series. How they are all great books alone but intertwined to give you updates on some of your favorite characters is my favorite thing. The Correspondent was an entertaining, easy read. I gave this book 4 stars, even though I really enjoyed it. Coming from the viewpoint of a military spouse and sister, I struggled with the ptsd portion. I totally understand it is pertinent to the story, and Tess Thompson brushed up to the conversation of getting help with mental health issues but I wish it went a little further. Personal preference absolutely. I still loved the book and love the series!

This is the fourth book in the Emerson Pass Contemporary series, but it is not essential at all to have read the other books. You may ponder a few names and events, but they are not essential to the storyline.
Stormi and Huck meet, unremembered by both, five years ago in a New York bar at a masked Halloween party. Since then both their lives have moved on until Stormi finds herself working for Huck and the two of them hate each other with a passion - this hate has been present between them the whole series so far.
A road accident in snowy weather involving these two puts everything from their pasts into perspective for both of them.

Beautiful read

The Correspondent is such a beautiful read. Huck followed his dream and came back a different man. Stormi went searching for her small town living. I love those chance encounters that meet with second chance encounters. Stormi and Huck never imagined what would happen when forced together in a blizzard. I love the openness and the passion they both have. You feel those little sparks fly the more the walls drop between them and the realization they met before comes to play. This is such a beautiful romance and I just love being back in Emerson Pass again. I adore Stormi and Huck so much. Go one click this and meet them today.

Tess Thompson’s newest contemporary in the Emerson Pass series is another winner. Well-written and easy to read with the cast of characters we know and love. This is Huck and Stormi’s story; two emotionally wounded people who don’t feel they have anything to give. Neither one can let go of the past that exhibits as brashness to each other. I found myself unable to put this page turner.
Highly recommended.

I read this book as an ARC and wish to thank Tess Thompson and the publishers. The ideas contained in this review are strictly my own.

Huck, back from being a war correspondent in Afghanistan is running the Emerson Pass Newspaper. Stormi is his assistant, but they have a troubled working relationship. Now that she’s finally got a dream job working in an art gallery and photographing weddings again, they can finally go their own ways.

But what will they get into when they’re caught in a surprise snowstorm…

Yet another big winner in the Emerson Pass series!!!

I loved Stormi and Huck’s story! Throughout the Emerson Pass Contemporary series the like-dislike relationship between them has been quite the journey. Now getting a back story and a stuck with you and I can’t leave situation has been awesome. Tess Thompson never disappoints and her characters are wonderful. Yet another amazing story in the contemporary Emerson Pass series! I love this fictional town and all the characters in it! The story of Huck and Stormi is tragic, sweet and moving all in one! I was literally in tears at one point! Tess Thompson always amazes me in her ability to develop characters and weave their storylines together into the beautiful novels she has written. I can't wait to read future books and hopefully more in this series to see what life brings for Huck and Stormi and all their friends and family in Emerson Pass!

I've gotten to know the characters throughout the series and thought Huck was going to be a hard nut to crack for me. But, of course, Tess Thompson takes us on a rollercoaster of emotion, not afraid to hit right through trauma characters have been through. Stormi and Huck's story is no exception. Not only did I get to know Huck more and grow to love him, we also get Stormi's story. I can honestly say I laughed, I gasped and I cried and more. Definitely recommend this book and the whole series.
