Selected by Emma Trelles as a winner of the Alta California Chapbook Prize. "Equal parts lament, memoir, and lyric, this chapbook is written in a wholly original voice that is as accomplished as it is precise. Each poem reveals another sharply crafted layer of memory and observation-whether about family, chess, death, or how remembering is a way of keeping love intact." I was not prepared for this !!? A heart on a platter , beating , beautiful , dedicated to a father . Bravo. So much more to come for this one. Front row seats please !!
Nic is a close friend and he graciously wrote and read a poem for our wedding, so I’ve been a fan for a long time! This chapbook of poems are an ode to family — of losing a father/son/husband and how family can help each other through the grief. I also found the poems super striking in Spanish; the last line of “How Rain Appears” hit me straight in the gut 💕
