Eva Hudson

In 2011 her first novel, The Loyal Servant, won the inaugural Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize from Cambridge University. The book was also shortlisted for UK TV's People's Novelist Competition.
In 2013, Eva received a terminal cancer diagnosis and this spurred her on to write the book she always wanted to read, a female Jack Reacher adventure. She created Ingrid Skyberg, an FBI agent working out the US embassy in London who's tenacious, resilient and determined, qualities Eva herself had in abundance as she went through treatment. Before she died in 2015, Eva had published four Skyberg books. She also left an unfinished manuscript and notes for future adventures with her partner and editor Jo Monroe who continues to write the series.

Ingrid Skyberg is back on the case, in this one she is partnered up with a US Air Force security officer to find a missing Airman who is suspected of severely injuring his young daughter and running off with his older son. His wife is accusing him, the security officer and the police believe her, but Ingrid has her doubts. Chasing around England following up sightings of the airman and his son, Ingrid and the officer are not getting along at all well and the officer's personality and abrasive manner have not made him well liked by the local police. Mean while Ingrid is having her own problems form the loss of a good friend who was kidnapped when they were at a fair as young girls and Ingrid blames herself for not helping. After all these years there is a break in the case and she is hoping and trying to get information from a friend back in the US. This is my second book by Eva Hudson and I hope more to come.

Wow! Ingrid really has her hands full with this story...or should I say stories? Working as an FBI Agent assigned to the U.S. Embassy in London, she is surprised when a case falls into her lap, involving a U.S. citizen who seems to have lost his mind, abducting his son after severely injuring his infant daughter. All is not as is seems, however, and Ingrid begins her quest to get at the truth about what actually happened. And what a wild ride is is for her. She must partner with an officer of the U.S. Airforce military police because this U.S. citizen is also a member of the Airforce. This begins one of Ingrid's problems as she finds him difficult to work with and complicating everything is the fact that this is all falling within the jurisdiction of the London police. Whew! Talk about a complicated series of events that unfold.
At the same time Ingrid is also put on the alert about a break in the case of her best friend who was abducted 18 years ago! Of course this happened back in Minnesota where Ingrid grew up, but she has a good friend at the FBI who tries to get more information and pass it along to Ingrid. All this is dredging up old memories and feelings for Ingrid. You can see her struggles vividly as she recounts events of that time years ago.
Needless to say this story has many twists and turns, ups and downs as do so many investigations, but imagine Ingrid trying to deal with everything at once. I admit to being one step ahead of the story a couple of times because everything is told so vividly. That didn't hurt, though, because it made me feel like I'm a pretty good investigator myself. And the author is an excellent story teller!

Having recently gone through a breakup with her fiancé, Ingrid Skyberg is posted to London in her investigative role for the FBI. Ingrid continues to be troubled by the disappearance of her best friend many years ago, and when her mother advises her of a recent development, Ingrid’s loss resurfaces and she sets out to get as much information from a distance, as she can. This worry is compounded by orders to investigate a missing US pilot who has gone AWOL from his base taking his young son with him, after being accused of killing his daughter.
This is an enjoyable read, with many twists and turns and enables the reader to feel the trauma of Ingrid’s childhood drama, her emotional state due to the breakdown of her engagement and the need she has to save the pilot’s young son – all whilst needing to follow the lead of other law enforcement officers in the UK.

great Series!
Love Ingrid in her series. She is smart, vulnerable, and very capable. Have loved every book so far and so glad there are several left to read Ingrid is helping the Met with an investigation of a shaken baby who is fighting for its life. Her father who is accused of shaking her has taken his son and run. The father is in the UsAir Force. Their MP is also helping and is an arrogant jerk. There usually is a point of frustration in these books and he is it! Very fast paced. Looking forward to the next one in the series!,

Really good story with interesting twists
I got this book free off Book Bub; my first Ingrid Skyberg mystery series novel. So I kinda jumped into the midst of Ingrid's life. I really liked it! Everything about the novel -- from solid believable characters to a story filled with twists and action -- made for a great read. At first I thought I wasn't going to like Ingrid, but as the book went along, she became a much more likeable person with a big heart, a nip of pluckiness, and a really good brain. I think I'd like to hear more about her life and adventures.

Finished this audiobook in the car today JUST as I arrived in the parking lot at work!
This book was pretty good, I don’t usually read FBI/crime type books, but i enjoyed this one! I love the narration of this audiobook as well, especially with all the different accents of each character.
The ending was pretty good and just as i thought i figured out what had happened, it changed at the last second!

Good story but disappointedly repetitive. Gave the impression the author was trying to bulk out the book, which was a shame. I found myself skipping paragraphs, knowing what the content was but written differently. Hope Eva’s next book, which l will read, is more plot orientated. Still a good read.

Arresting
Character development extraordinaire! I loved the main character and hated one of the others all within three chapters. Emotional investment: the mark of a good yarn-spinner!

Now I want to read all the other books
Just enough Americanisms to convince me it was a real American agent, but the English was completely readable. Now I have to get books 1 and 2 before I read any more.

The series gets better! So 4 stars it is, also highly recommended.
A few nice twists, some I guessed, but the main one was a surprise. And a conclusion to a slower background story.
This review is short as I have computer problems and as a former helpdesk-professional I am the person to solve these problems. Currently taking a break from using computers for far too much (and far too long, since late 1984).

She writes good books, this is a fun series.
These books are for young readers, of which I am not. Dare I say they are written for young women because young men will be irritated by the lack of decision and authority in her main character.
Ingrid is obviously a young, fairly immature person who really gets into some unlikely situations; frankly I don't think her scenarios are likely and that's my problem.
Skyberg's books are good fun for a very young age group.

I'm loving this series of books - and each one is getting better IMO. Enjoying the relationships side of the characters, and the pace at which the book flows. I will continue to follow this series to see how Ingrid's character develops.

5 stars, because although I was getting frustrated because i knew what was going on and she didn't, it turns out I didn't know what was going on after all. i didn't like the ending though. Can't wait for the next one. Hoping there is a next one!!

Suspense from beginning to end, Deep Hurt is a brilliant continuation of the Ingrid Skyberg series. Bravo, Eva and now the long wait for the next book.

To the author, please learn about shaken baby syndrome. It is real and can result in CP among other conditions.

Enjoyed the twist and turns in this book. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy thrillers. Will be reading more of this author.
