Summary: This may be the fourteenth book in the series, but the suspense and drama continue at an all time high. Our intrepid crew has gotten larger, but they have decided for better or worse to split up. Joni, her daughter and Ralph stayed behind in the prison to make their way. After going south, Hawk stayed behind with Aggie and her community while Olga and the rest pushed on to the blocks. Each decision hasn’t been easy or simple. You see the diseased have been loosened into the South leading death and danger where ever they are found.
In the prison Joni’s group safe danger on all sides as they are trapped from what lies within and without. Hawk faces mistrust and death from all sides with only Aggie at his side. Olga’s group is trapped underground with little hope between the diseased and the survivors determined to kill them.
This held me spellbound to the and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Our group of friends have split up, leaving Joni with Ralph and Antonia, her daughter, in Louis prison vents whilst Hawk made a choice to stay with Aggie and her group in the blocks. Olga, Matilda, Will, Nick, Artan and Gracie in the meantime find themselves trapped below a hatch with crazy guards hounding them from above, and a dark bottomless pit below them. However all our friends do their best to as usual survive come what may. Hawk is despised and reviled by Aggie's group who hate him, blaming him for the south getting invaded by the diseased, and Ethan especially is out to get him and only restrains himself because of Aggie. Hawk has to redeem himself if he is to survive as he realises he is not among friends any more. Joni too fights tooth and claw to keep Antonia safe, as she feels she should trust her father's guards but only Joni's gut instincts keep them alive. As the cult of Louis, led by a fanatic who is a crazy loon called Andy are becoming more of a danger to them. And William seems to be losing it, and he gets separated from the main group as they all struggle to keep themselves alive and watch one nightmare after another unfold in front of their eyes. Olga blames herself for the kids being turned into diseased, and she nearly loses her mind too. Phew this is yet another very tense episode as all our friends seem to be homing in on the same block which is chock full of both guards and diseased below and above them and they are truly trapped. After all the effort they have been through will their ordeals never end? I cannot wait for the next book in this very thrilling survival thriller.
In this episode, the group has split: Joni, her daughter and Ralph are trapped in the guard’s block, and need to take over the prison to have any chance to survive. Hawk and Aggie struggle to gain the trust of thousands of people in her community who blame him for their predicament. The rest of our friends are trapped in a dark basement with both diseased and healthy humans attempting to get in to overcome them. Mr. Robertson continues to raise the bar higher: deeper looks into character interplay under increasing tension and danger, more overpowering attacks by the diseased (and now by the unaffected elite humans who also hate our friends for unleashing the diseased into their “safe” areas). With all the chaos, will our friends be able to break out and find their hoped-for diseased-free dreamland? Is William close to losing it all? Will everyone be able to survive the seemingly endless journey? This book is probably the most intense part of the story so far, continuing to throw in impossible road-blocks and unexpected twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, watching as the group has to overcome more adversity, wondering whether they’ll lose hope and give up. I continue to thoroughly enjoy this series and will hate to see it come to an end, as it must at some point. I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion – and I purchased a copy to support this terrific author. I am eager to read the next book in this amazing series.
I love this series of books but this book is no where near the best. All the other books in the collection has a beginning, middle and end. This one doesn't, it carries on where the other left off and ends mid story with not really having achieved anything in the middle.
The dynamic between the main characters suddenly changed without any reason being given why, just a sudden change from the previous books.
The other thing I found is that this book uses the F word much more that the other books. I am all for profanity to enhance a story line but sometimes in this book you felt that every sentence had to have at least 1 maybe 2 or more references to the F word, it was unnecessary and detracted from the story.
The series is becoming very samey now I think that if this is what is left to come maybe it is time to bring it to a conclusion. Hopefully the next book will either re-invigorate the series or bring it to a conclusion.
I found Joni, Antonia and Ralph’s story the best part of this book, and found that I was becoming less and less interested in the plots involving the other characters, which was a shame... although I will say that this had started to shift back towards the end of the novel. Although I know they’re teenagers, I do at times find William’s group incredibly frustrating. In this book, the cause of this frustration was how quickly they seemed to turn on William, despite everything they’ve been through together and the fact that he has done so much for them up until this point. Hopefully the next novel will build on this in a way that doesn’t detract from all of the ones that have gone before.
Trapped, book 14 in Beyond These Walls is an excellent addition to the series. Not only is it filled with action, but the character interactions are among the best of the series, the tension between them is taken to levels never before exposed in the previous episodes. Furthermore, a few characters from an earlier episode make an unexpected appearance which leads the reader to wonder how they will fit in in the future episodes. This is a must read for fans of this series! I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - it's actually my favourite series from this author. It certainly had plenty of action from each group's point of view.
It was well-written and fast-paced and absolutely brilliant.
I like the characters, my favourite being Joni, and it's interesting to see how the dynamics change - William is less of a leader now and Olga is more to the front.
Not wanting to give away anything, I will only say that this was a great story that I would recommend to anyone who likes post-apocalyptic survival thrillers.
Trapped, written by the very creative wordsmith Michael Robertson, is an amazing blend of apocalyptic/dystopian nightmares with near non-stop action and high tension. I’ve cared about the group of young protagonists for quite some time and each book in this series makes me want more! I highly recommend it.
Disclaimer: I received this ARC from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Absolutely brilliant nonstop action from page 1. Once again there are 3 story lines so the tension is at full throttle. Trapped in the basement William and his friends must find away out. While hawk has remained with the vampires as they are called with the diseased closing in. Joni and her daughter along with Ralph try to regain control of the prison. So each chapter is also a cliffhanger and the ending is brilliant. Definitely recommend this book and the whole series.
Michael Robertson has outdone himself with this book in the series. Our favorite characters are all there. Some are having emotional crisis on top of the physical one. The group has to come up with inventive ways to stay ahead of other humans as well as the diseased. It has lots of action, lots of hard decisions, lots of emotional issues. This book is easy to read and leaves us wondering what is going to happen next. I love this series. I would highly recommend it.
Fantastic read. I say this every time I read a book in this series~with every book the storyline gets better and bigger. I really do not know how Michael Robertson does it~such incredible talent.
I’m anticipating the next book~really looking forward to reading it.
