The Billionaire’s Intern is a classic virgin-meets-billionaire romance - if your idea of classic is scorching hot angst with a plot twist that’ll leave you begging for more...
No one’s ever called me friendly.
You don’t get to where I am by being approachable.
I’m used to seas of people parting for me. Especially in the lobby of the building I own, filled with people who work for me.
Guess no one told the new marketing intern:
She spills her coffee all over me and then offers to replace my custom couture with Kathy Ireland.
Emery is a sweet little blinky-eyed Kansas girl. A kitten in the middle of our shark tank. It’s just common decency to protect her. Take her to lunch and get to know her. Wonder why she looks at me like she wants me to eat her alive, but pulls back every time I’m ready to bite.
Okay, so that last one isn’t decent at all. In fact, every fantasy I have about her is downright filthy.
Discovering I’m her first?
Well, it gives me even more wicked thoughts about the big... city I can show her. I’ve been burned before. Fool me once, right? I built a billion-dollar company by planning for every possibility. Making sure nothing gets past me again. But I sure didn’t see this one coming.
So, the arrogant billionaire Harrison encountered Emery, the intern in his company and soooo many non innocent thoughts started waltzing in his mind. While Emery looked shy and innocent at the start, after a short while she became seductive and … sucked her boss hard!
Ok, this was definitely not for me, but all 13 chapters I read, were told only by the hero’s pov!! Dnf @ 55%
"For someone who hates cliffhangers I seem to be reading a whole heap of duets and trilogies lately. And I am not hating it at all. My spidey senses were pinging hard throughout the start of this book and I started making assumptions of how this book would play out. And then when it didn’t go to plan, I ended up second guessing both Harrison and Emery and how book one would end. I was sort of on the money but not quite - and I really hope that the next book is going to be released tomorrow because I just need to know what happens next!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book."
DNF'd at 58%....I can't even believe I made it that far!😳 I don't know what I was expecting from this book. Perhaps a age gap romance that may have some good things about it.
Reading up to where I got, I felt like I was reading a very slow porno movie. I wanted it to get better. But, it just didn't. I couldn't put myself through finishing it. Although for the hell of it when peoples reviews here says they're was a shocker ending I did go to the end to see and all I can say is, meh. It wasn't shocking I expected that from the get go.
I'll say I am by no means a prude when it comes to steam in a romance novel, I like it high or low on the steam meter. But I don't want to feel like I'm reading a cheap porn. Sadly that's what I got 🤷🏻♀️
None of these characters have chemistry or personality. The characters don’t follow the same logic as most humans. Their problems are easily solvable. The dialogue was often stilted and awkward. Just so many things that bothered me.
The Billionaire's Intern is book one in Lia Hunt's The Intern trilogy so don't expect a HEA but do cliffhangers.
Harrison Duke is leaving the office to get some fresh air after his meeting with a man wearing too much cheap perfume. As he passes the reception desk heading for the elevator a woman carrying a tray of coffees runs into him spilling all of them down the front of him. His shirt and most likely his suit were ruined.
Coffee Girl has large Bambi eyes which are looking at him in horror as she tries to dab at the coffee stains with a handkerchief she has pulled out.
Harrison had singlehandedly taken his father's small company and made it the conglomerate it was today. Unfortunately, he had to deal with his b!tch of a wife and ex-best friend. He had given her control of the charity portion of Duke Capital and he tried to avoid that part of the office with everything in this power.
Although they have been separated since he walked into Blythe and Robert having sex in his home, he is refusing to sign the divorce papers. She has taken enough from him, he is not giving that female viper anything else. Between her lies and Robert's smug smile about their affair, Harrison has no intention of having another relationship so he'll sign when he is ready.
Emery Mills is not his type. First off, she is too young. She's an intern in his company. She is too innocent and full of optimism. But, maybe she's not as innocent as he thought as she wants to play.
He can't help but compare her with his wife who would die before getting a meal at a food cart and didn't get excited and amazed at what New York had to offer. Emery didn't see him as a dollar sign like his wife. She was just so different from his wife's treachery.
Harrison is finally ready to get on with his life when his heart that he didn't realize was still there gets ripped out. This book is totally from Harrison's POV.
I loved this book. It is very well written especially being totally from a male's point of view. The majority of the books I've read are dual POV and I love them because I get a chance to get the full picture of the relationship, but I really enjoyed getting into Harrison's head and seeing that he isn't the cold billionaire businessman that he projects. I love learning about his insecurities and his dirty mind.
The storyline kept my attention from page one. Harrison's internal fight to do the right thing or let his feelings for Emery take the front seat and screw everything else. I can't wait to continue this series and see where it leads Harrison and Emery.
This is the first of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. The hero is said to be an accomplished businessman, here he acts with his second head having learnt nothing from the ending of his failed marriage. There was no real plot just a lot of sex.
The Billionaire's Intern follows Harrison, the CEO of Duke Capital and Emery, a new intern who makes her presence known by spilling her coffee all over Harrison the first time they cross paths.
Although this was a very cliché storyline, I must admit, I did quite like it. Especially the fact that we got Harrison's POV throughout. I always enjoy reading the guys POV in books like this because I tend to find them funnier and Harrison didn't disappoint in that respect. "Did he hit on you?" I ask, because great. I'm that guy now." Although at lot of his thoughts regarding Emery did seem to be very sexually orientated, which I wasn't 100% cool with given they're supposed to be at work and she should be treated with professional respect, I did think he did it in a non-creepy way. Likewise, some of his thoughts about the other characters made me laugh, especially his supposed non-bromance with Ramon. "Also, when did we escalate this friendship to the discussion of our feelings? Shouldn't we have had a sleepover first? Exchanged friendship bracelets? Something?"
Emery, on the other hand, I wasn't a huge fan of. Initially she appears to be as Harrison describes, a young, naive country girl who hasn't been hardened by living in a city like New York or by being screwed over. However, all of a sudden, at these random intervals, she appeared to then have these bursts of confidence where she's then propositioning him or coming on to him. It just felt really out of character for her given what we knew and quite honestly, made me not really like her. I would've personally preferred if that developed throughout the story and their relationship, then it would've been more understandable, whereas this seemed to happen on and off right from the start.
I did really like the steam and tension between these two though. Harrisons' conflicting thoughts were understandable, but I loved the slightly forbidden element to it all and I think on some of the scenes it was developed really well. I'm glad Harrison was so internally conflicted over it all too, as I think it would have annoyed me if the age-gap/boss-employee scenario was only mentioned once or twice and then brushed under the rug.
I didn't actually realise this was going to end of a cliff-hanger, but to be honest that part didn't really shock me as I was expecting something along those lines to happen much earlier on in the book. Given this is part one of a series though, it makes sense that it took that long to happen though and I must admit, I am looking forward to seeing what happens next. Overall I rated this 3.7 stars as I did enjoy Harrison's character and the storyline, however, it was very cliché so there weren't really any surprises in there for me.
Lia writes a strangers to lovers romance that has a twist that you never see coming. She has you feeling all warm and fuzzy but then throws a wrench in your happiness.
Harrison is the CEO of a business that is well off. He is separated from his wife but will not sign divorce papers as he doesn't want her getting any more of his money. Why? He caught her and his best friend in bed together. He bumps into a woman and ends up with coffee all over his shirt. She tries to help clean it off but he stops her. He is taken back by her looks and cannot stop thinking about her. She ends up being an intern at his company and he can't keep away from her. Will he give into these feelings? Does the idea of boss and intern stop him? What happens on a business trip?
Emery is a shy and meek woman but is very smart. She is from a small town and new to New York. She starts as an intern at Duke, Harrison's company. Over time she tries to get under Harrsion's skin with her shy dirty talk. Is she as innocent as she seems? What happens when she spills coffee on him again? Do things start to escalate when they go out for dinner?
I loved the sexual tension between them and the dirty talk is hilarious. Lia has you laughing at the way innocent Emery is talking dirty to Harrison and he cannot take it. The end of this book leaves you with a cliffhanger. I cannot wait for the next book.
So yeah, the blurb makes it sound a bit like it will be a typical billionaire meets virgin girl story. But trust me, it definitely is not just that. This book is totally Harrison Duke's book, it's his life, him living it and have build Duke Capital himself and now a huge company. It's him going through the stress of finding something awful his wife does and trying to move from it. It's finding unexpected solace and happiness in a random Intern of his company who accidentally spills coffee all over him.
This book is definitely not your typical billionaire romance but a story of a man who is hard working and has been betrayed in the worst way by his own close people. Yet everyday he goes on trying to build his delicate trust and feelings back and evermore growing his empire.
Let me say.... I ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY LOVED THAT THE ENTIRE BOOK IS FROM THE MALE POV. It just made this story that much interesting and engaging and entertaining and engaging for me. Looking at life and business through Harrison's eyes. Knowing what drives a powerful man like him yet he is human after all
Not until he stumbles into Emery aka 'Coffee girl', does his life change and sparkles in a different way. Because emery is a mystery to him and to us as readers. So I was getting his infatuation initially towards her. How he tries his best to keep his distance from her but like a man who's lived in darkness of Betrayal can't help but welcome the beautiful ray of sunshine and light that emery brings into his world. I also loved how we get peaks and look at the actual pitches and different projects and sides to Harrison's business. It made it all the more realistic that Harrison Duke is a billionaire for a reason.
Of course... This book is fire and is Steamy..I mean..*fanning myself*😍😍🔥🔥.
Everything was finally getting resolved, Harrison and silly me thinking he would finally be getting towards happiness..... But..... Dayumm😲😲😲😲.... Definitely didn't see that coming.. Especially for Harrison... I have no idea what it will mean to him and what it'll do to him now. I'm scared and yet can't wait to find out what happens next. But it is oh so much more and I'm oh so excited that this is a Trilogy as I definitely didn't get enough of Harrison and Emery. Loved loved this one. 😍😍💟💟💟💟💟
Emery is excited for her first day at Duke Capital. Originally from Kansas, she moves to New York to start her new life and career. She is so excited about her position until she spills coffee all over Harrison Duke, the CEO. Maybe her first day will be her last.
When Harrison's wife Blythe sees Harrison's reaction to Emery, she decides that Emery is the perfect person to get her what she wants; a divorce from Harrison Duke. She makes Emery a proposition: Charm Harrison Duke into dating her, and when she is successful, Blythe will pay her 50,000.00. This would go a long way to paying off Emery's student loans so after some thought, Emery accepts her offer.
It works! Harrison and Emery start seeing each other and Harrison grants Blythe her divorce. The only problem is they both develop feelings for each other. Emery realizes that everything Blythe told her about Harrison was untrue, and when Blythe gives Emery the payment, Emery just can't cash the check. Her feelings for Harrison are real, and she regrets ever making the deal with Blythe. She rips up the check in Blythe's office.
Before she can come clean and tell Harrison the truth, he finds the check and ends it with Emery. She is devastated and filled with regret. He feels betrayed and cannot believe he was deceived. He thought what they had was real.
Both Harrison and Emery are miserable. Emery moves back home to Kansas. A week later Harrison follows her to get closure. Can Harrison and Emery get past the deception and find their happily ever after, or will Harrison find that he just can’t forgive her and push her out of his life.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to book two of this trilogy.
I'm so torn on this book. I read a review that kind of ruined it as I was starting so I knew there would be a twisty cliffhanger at the end. It's frustrating when people say that because I enjoy being surprised. I kind of guessed that the twisty turn was, but still.
I'm also annoyed about everyone writing in their reviews about being annoyed that he was married. It explained why several times and if he had no reason to get divorced and wanted to try to keep from giving his wife money, good for him. I get it. But also, everytime he brought it up he said wife and then corrected it to be something to do with ex wife. We get it. Stop restating it every time. And the instalust and sexual obsession with Emery is ridiculous. I liked reading the book from Harrison's POV but do guys ever really obsess that much over a girl? And I get it. Doe eyes was used 10 times. She has big eyes. Ok.
However, Harrison proved that he was a great guy over and over. He seemed to be someone who believed in "know better, do better" and did things to help charities and people when he could. He respected boundaries.
The blurb for the next book has me confused, because he seems to hate Emery but is going to track her down to win her over. Harrison seems confused on what he wants to do. I'm also probably going to to read it because I think I need to know the background on why Emery did what she did and what happens next.
I love when I read a book by a new-to-me author. The Billionaire’s Intern is my first book by Lia Hunt but it most definitely won’t be my last. TBI is a fun and fairly quick read about the billionaire, Harrison and his intern, Emery will not only keep you transfixed as well as keep you in stitches too!!
On Emery’s first day on her new job, it didn’t take long for her to meet her boss!! Little does she know who she had just run into. spilling a cup of coffee down the front of his shirt. Although Harrison was a bit irritated, he was also amused at this doe eyed, innocent looking, new girl especially when she pulled out a handkerchief to blot it up. So much for making an impression. Yet, Harrison finds that he can’t stop thinking about her. Later he will find out she is an intern and knows this can’t go anywhere. But that doesn’t stop him from continuing to think about her.
With their next encounter sparks will fly between them. Emery starts coming on to Harrison and it doesn’t take long for them to cross the line. The two are insatiable! And when Harrison finds out she’s a virgin it’s like it sets him on fire. It doesn’t take long before the stolen moments begin to stir feelings for each other too. But the big problem for them is that while they may have feelings for each other, Harrison is still married to Blythe, his soon to be ex-wife. Well, once he’s through dragging it out. What really seals the deal between Harrison and Emery is when she accompanies him to a working gala. She is successful at helping to reel in a deal and sign on a client that was also being wooed by a competitor. He realizes just how good they work together and what an asset she is for him…. in more ways than one. wink, wink!!
Some of the things I loved about this book was the banter between Harrison and Emily. Their incredible chemistry that made it nearly impossible for them to keep their hands to themselves, plus the fireworks from the office dynamics. And Harrison was amazing how he wanted to things for Emery to make her life easier/better.
Let me just say that I never in a million years thought that this book would end the way it did!!! Needless to say, I’m ready for book two NOW!!
What a great way to start a trilogy. I really enjoyed reading this book, it had a bit of all: funny moments, angst, great characters and word-building. There where a few moments when I felt that the action was a bit rushed, but overall it was a good reading experience that left me wanting for more.
I have a weak spot for the age-gap trope, so when I read the description of these trilogy, I knew that I had to get my hands on it.
I absolutely loved the way Emery and Harrison met, it was so funny trying to picture the scene. I think it was the perfect scene and the perfect way for them. She was so angelic and innocent, exactly what he needed in that moment.
Emery has fire in her and she is very passionate and vocal when the time asks for it. She wants to be the best at her job, wants and likes to always learn new things that can help her improve. She is hard-working and driven. A little minx, innocent on the outside, but on the inside there is hidden a sexy and powerful woman, who wants to experience a lot. She is shy but also daring, always toying with that fine line.
Harrison has such a toxic relationship with his wife. Even though she cheated on him, with his former best friend, and it is clear for everyone that there is no more love between them, he still refuses to sign the divorce papers. He thinks that by refusing her, he punishes her, but in the end the only one who suffers is himself.
I practically tore through this book in one sitting, I think it took me just two or three hours to finish it because I could not put it down. And that plot twist? Oh my god, it broke me and left me wanting more. A part of me expected something like that, but either way I still was not prepared for it. I need the second book in this trilogy like right NOW!
I had the amazing pleasure and opportunity to receive an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Billionaire’s Intern is the 1st book in this writing duos trilogy. It is told strictly from Harrison’s POV. I typically prefer duel POV’s, but I am Intrigued by the all male POV. Plus, with the cliffhanger, having Emery’s POV, would have lessened the shock value. Harrison is older, but established and living his best bachelor life, despite holding out on signing his divorce papers. It is hard to get a read on Emery only having Harrison’s view. We are told she is fresh out of college, young, from Kansas, eager to learn and becoming a great asset.
Harrison Duke is CEO of his own investment business. He has a cheating, manipulative wife, who wants the divorce papers singed yesterday. Harrison is bitter about how their marriage ended and is holding out.
When the new intern literally walks into him, he is entranced. When Emery keeps popping up in the office, their encounters grow more and more sexual. Harrison knows he should keep his distance because of the potential disaster them being involved would cause. His obsession grows and Emery’s behavior surprises him- one minute she is a minx and the next so so innocent.
When sleeping with Emery just intensifies his feelings instead of satiating his need for her, Garrison finds himself acting totally out of character.
When is wife, Blythe, makes it known she knows about Emery, Harrison realizes just how unfair he has been to not only Emery, but himself. He signs the divorce papers and surprises Emery with the news, however, she has a mind blowing surprise of her own.
Review:- I found a billionaire romance!!! I absolutely love romances where the characters are both from different social circles and how they go through problems and adjust and come up strong and better than ever.
This book is the first in a trilogy is based on Harrison and Emery relationship and how they get past the hurdles onto clean ground.
Harrison is the CEO of his company and even though he is separated from his wife…he hasnt divorced her and she also works with him. He is smart , sexy , unapologetic and cares a lot about Emery even though he doesn't show it and I love that the story is from his point of view and shows us how he works with his inner thoughts and feelings.
Emery is this shy and innocent girl from kansas who works as an intern for Harrison’s company!! She accidently spills coffee on him and from that day on…she has him captured by her brown doe eyes. I have to add that his wife is a manipulative little bitch… I hate her. I really enjoyed the banter between them and how well written the steamy sex scenes were but the best thing was how slow harrison was in learning about his feelings for her…..it was hilarious😂.
But one thing I forgot to mention …is that this book ends on a bloody CLIFFHANGER!!!! Oh ye but do not worry because the second book in this trilogy 'The Billionaire’s Mistake' is getting released in a week on july 27th!!!
If you like office romances then be sure to check this one out!!!
Harrison Duke is a man that is use to getting whatever his heart desires, he can afford every luxury and has worked hard to get where he is in his life. But his annoying, cheating ex has every intention of getting her fair share of his money and prestige... she is the one thing he wishes he hadn't done in his life. The one dark spot in his life that constantly looms over him.
He needs a distraction... and he thinks that he has found her. His new intern Emery, she is beautiful, smart, and a temptation he can't seem to ignore. She is a breath of fresh air in his dimly lit world. But giving into his temptation would be wrong on so many levels...
Between the pages of this one readers will find the start of a dirty little office romance that is bound to leave you blushing! These two stir up heat and intensity between the pages and will certainly keep you on your toes. There are a lot of obstacles and a few secrets standing in their way and I am curious to see if they have what it takes to conquer them and find that happily ever after weren't planning on! I cannot wait to see what the next installment holds for our forbidden lovers! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

However, for her things are not going as planned and when Harrison finds out her truth well she may have more than she bargained for. These unlikely two will have the fight of their life on their hands. Can Harrison forgive Emery? And will he fight for her?
Loved this new to me author, enjoyed this romance thriller that kept me holding on just what happens next. The two amazing main characters where absolutely opposites attract with that a special twist. Harrison and Emery met when she spilled her coffee on his down the front of his shirt upsetting him but yet making him think about her and her clumsiness.
The author gives you so many emotions in this thriller that keeps you turned the pages to see what's next: you get love, hate. trust issues, lust and emotional attachments. Emery is that young innocent girl next door type, while Harrison is the alpha male that gets who and what he wants just by flaunting his power and money. Emery is holding on to a big secret about herself but it all comes out when her and Harrison decide to give their office fling a go and they take it to the next step in their relationship he takes her virginity. But he is a married man what can he give her? Can they make things work or will everything fall apart? So can't wait to read next part to this steamy hot billionaire romance thriller.
This is the first time I have read something from this author and I am really intrigued!
I normally don't read books that have cheating in them but that is not the case. Harrison has separated from his wife, not divorced. They are no longer committed to each other.
The book is told from Harrison's point of view. We get to know about his life, the pain he is in because of the separation from his wife and the attraction he feels towards Emery. He is struggling to move on and I feel like he is stuck.
Emery was not what I expected! She is not a quiet and naive girl, she knows what she wants. She is quite innocent in the way she talks and is passionate about the things in her life. She is a mystery- you never know what she is going to do. I want to know more about her and what she is thinking.
Overall, I will give this book a 3.5. The plot is good, I wanted to know what would happen next! The characters though felt a little bit flat, I didn't really connect with them.
Poor Harrison! Everyone close to him screws him over. He gives up - determined to focus on his company and stay single forever. Until he crashes into her, Emry. Since that first encounter, he can't get her out of his head. He falls hopelessly in love - and then she fucks him over too. I knew something was up with her. From the beginning, the way he kept praising her and the author had him comparing her to his wife. I KNEW something was going to happen, I just didn't think it would be because of her that it would happen. I thought for sure it would be Blythe that came between them. Needless to say, this is left on a MAJOR cliff hanger. He just walks out - so we have no idea why Emery did that to him. And honestly, I don't think she deserves to get his forgiveness - if she does.. I am starting to think that she wasn't even truly a virgin either. He didn't mention any blood.... but then again, not everyone bleeds... so IDK. I just think she is lying about a LOT more, and I'm team Duke. So I don't think she deserves a chance to prove herself.

LOVED it! Let me just say, a Billionaire/Office Romance trope is so my jam! I always enjoy a great Alpha Billionaire getting mixed up with someone he works with. This one was great. The guy owns his own company, is dealing with the breakup of his marriage which is NOT going well, and then finds himself completely taken with a new, young intern in his office. I really enjoyed the internal dialogue he had with himself throughout the book. The guy was funny! His intern was so much more than she appeared to be. Theirs was an instantaneous connection that could not be denied. It was flirty, dirty, and steamy, until...it wasn't. This is the first in a trilogy, so if you can't handle a great cliffhanger, this may not be for you. It was definitely for me, and I'm hanging on by my fingertips, eager to see what's next in this enjoyable office romance!
