Mondays usually suck, but this one really took the biscuit.
A hot dream about an even hotter fae left me with a strange mark. No, it wasn’t an STD. Instead, it might as well have been a death sentence.
I’d never been picked for so much as a raffle prize in my life, but somehow, I’d been Selected.
Nobody knew why the fae picked certain humans, or what happened to those they took, but the government had signed away our right to complain in exchange for peace. We knew two things—nobody escaped and nobody returned.
So, what’s a girl to do when she’s picked for a magical kidnapping? Get comfy with denial, of course. Then get kidnapped. Because you can’t outrun the fae hunters. Trust me, I tried.
All this hoo-ha lands me in Faerie, running for my life in a mysterious Hunt.
In a see-through dress.
Now, monsters are chasing me through an enchanted forest, and I’m not sure I want to know what happens if I’m caught. That is, until a delightfully terrifying pack of fae wolf shifters corners me like prey.
They look fiercely hungry.
But not for food.
*This 16k word spicy short story novella is the first book in the Fae Mate Hunt series, an adult monster romance intended for mature audiences only. It’s a hot, steamy, fast-burn reverse harem story, where the heroine doesn’t have to choose. More love interests for the heroine are introduced throughout the series. Contains swearing, mild violence and steamy scenes with multiple partners, incl. mm elements and magical fae males (because monsters need love too). If you have delicate sensibilities, maybe give this one a hard swerve...
Note: This title was previously released as Selected for the Werewolves and has since been significantly edited but the overall story remains the same.
Sakura Black is a British author who spends her days pretending to be a sensible adult. Most of the time, she gets to write steamy fantasy and paranormal romance, often dreaming up wild stories about frightfully sweet monsters and the women they’re lucky enough to fall horns over tail for.
I think I liked this more before all the steamy scenes started to happen.
We follow Paisley who is part shifter when after a strange erotic dream she gets marked for the Hunt. The hunt is where faes hunt humans to do sexual needs to them?? (At least in this book it is).
I really liked the build up in this novel but I was not a fan of the non-con. I also found it to be a little confusing at times especially during the sex scenes. They’re really hard to visualize and don’t feel anatomically correct. I also didn’t like the use of knotting in this I have never ever been a fan of that but I guess I should have suspected this from the cover I don’t know what I was thinking. This book was just all over the place so I probably won’t be picking up the next one.
Look, I just finished book three of Zodiac Academy and I kind of was robbed of the Linar Eclipse experience so I thought this would fix that. Man oh man did it work. Don't judge, we get our kicks where we could get em.
This is porn with plot. But the whole thing is unbalanced and unfocused. Too much of the page length is dedicated to stuff that is irrelevant to the point, which is the porn (and that only happens at the end). There are two groups of men introduced before the shifters of the title show up. Frankly, there was more description given to the irrelevant second group than the eventual main group. These were perhaps meant as red herrings, but they just felt like a distraction from the story that mattered. Ultimately, the problem was that the shifter pack only shows up at the end for the sex, and the reader has no connection to them whatsoever (they barely even have names). The reader is simultaneously left wondering what happened to all of the other named male characters who apparently play no apparent role.
Once the smexy time started, I wasn't keen on the fact that the heroine was both non-consenting but also somehow desperate for the act. (Make up your mind, authors). Plus, the dirty talk dialogue was horrendous. So cheesy.
Got this on Stuff Your Kindle Day and I’m disappointed. The dialogue wasn’t great and the sex scenes weren’t sexy. I skimmed the last few pages. I’m not inclined to read other books by this author.
This was a short quick read that I'm not sure what happened. Pasiley was having a dream a very hot and steamy dream with a male shifter and someone else. But her attraction was to the stranger that bite her. But before she woke up she remembered mark her to be selected. Turns out a dream walker came to her and mark her for the hunt. Humans are selected to be hunted by the fae. The problem I had was the book ended on a cliffhanger that I felt because of the book being only 76 pages it could have continued. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
Pasiley was having a dream a very hot and steamy dream with a male shifter and someone else. But her attraction was to the stranger that bite her. But before she woke up she remembered mark her to be selected. What she finds out is that a dream walker came to her with someone else and selected her for the hunt. Its known that humans are sometimes selected for yhe hunt by the Fae. But do thet return? Its rumored they die? Pasiley’s best friend notices the mark immediately and asks her about it.
I would rank this higher but, i got confused by the so many different character names being introduced. Is she not fated to be the queen to the 1st male in her dream? Or is she hunted by him and passed along until she is caught by him?
Paisley has learned some really awful news. That hot dream she had was more than just a dream. It has left her magically marked which means she has been selected by the Fae. Selected for what? She’s not sure. But no one, once selected, has ever returned from their fate.
Now lost and running from Fae hunters in a magical forest, she is being relentlessly chased and will not be able to hold out too much longer. Will she survive this ordeal? What are they planning to do with her when she is caught?
I got this book for free, but my opinion is genuine. This was not good. At the beginning story was promising, I even wondered how writer is going to include all in just 100 pages. Well, she could't. It was like two piece of two different book: First half was like world and character building for real plot. Second half was hurried, plot missing, too quickly sex happening almost noncon , there was no logic, no actual connection or building desire, even the positions descriped were poorly described. This really didn't work. I'm quite sorry , 'cause beginning wasn't that bad.
I don’t know WTF I just read. Dark fae, dub-con, reverse harem erotica, I guess. 76 pages and it ends on a cliffhanger?! Hard pass for any more of the series. Thank goodness for KU and reading it for free!
After finishing the series I can say that this book wasn't the best of the series and they do get better. So is worth reading for all the smutty goodness down the line. It's smut with some story. Mainly smut though.
This book sort of sets us up for the rest of the series so you will need to read it, but the rest of the series is better... honest.
Overall series 3.75 * maybe a 4* Smut 5 *
This book 2.5-3 * Smut 3* - it is full of smut, but it wasnt fantastic. FMC collects a load of mates and a load of different kinks along the way. Not much mention of consent (no non con but not really for the sensitive reader) so please check any trigger warnings. Also there's got to be magic involved as this is the longest night ever lol. Different inhumans with some special peen. There is mention of a knot - this is used in a later series where she is tied down 🥵
This wasn't original at all. The main female lead loves coffee and wearing leather and is "spunky" and there is something special about her but no knows what. It falls very flat and cringy. There is nothing special in this book. It is single POV reverse harem. It is dub-con and there is no actual romance which would be fine if the plot/world building was good OR if the author decided to make it erotica. Neither happened though so we're left with whatever this is.
Honestly I have no idea what I just read. The storyline has potential but honestly it’s just all over the place. For such a short book the cliffhanger ending is a no thanks for me. Hard pass on the rest of the series for me.
Be aware that there is no consent and all sexual content is non-con. Reading this made me feel icky. There's also no romance, despite the author claiming this is erotic romance
The blurb sounded better than the story really was ;) Paisley was a 27 year old living in London. A decade or more ago there was a rift in the realities opened and fae came to our world in droves, so now Paisley had a fae roommate and coworkers. There were fae sneaking into our world earlier, because Paisley had a shifter grandparent. The only things she got from her shifter blood was quicker healing and being a little faster than a full blooded human. So she had a sexy dream about some fae king, she woke up with a weird mark that meant she was Selected to be taken to the world of Faerie. Then she met a trio of hot(literally, fire nymphs) fae and agreed to meet up with them, but didn't really know to what she was agreeing to. Then she was taken by a female fae, scared shitless, tried fighting but got pretty much magically roofied (she was giggling and feeling happy in a fucked up situation, so how else should I call it?). Then she woke up in the forest and was chased in it. So we're getting to the end of the story, that's a good moment to introduce the guys that are on the cover right? ;) They jumped her, literally, got a short description of how they looked, didn't introduce themselves, Paisley learned their names because they used them while they assaulted her. Yeah, I consider what happened assault, because she was under the influence of that magical roofie that lowered her fear and inhibitions, and because they started fondling her and giving her oral without asking for permission. The Alpha asked if she wanted to be fucked by him, so standing ovation for that gentleman, but her agreement felt forced, it wasn't a normal consensual fuck for me and it made me icky. I didn't mind the guys getting dirty with each other, it was the most normal and consensual thing in this book. Oh, my last gripe: what the fuck was that ending? The main love interests (more like fuck interests here) were introduced too late in the story and then we don't even get to see all of them interact with the heroine? The book just ends on a cliffhanger in a middle of a sex scene, that was a new one for me. Fuck, it wasn't my last gripe. The title doesn't match the story. She wasn't selected for them, the king in her dream wanted her, the shifters here were just lucky to find her first ;)
Short story Strong FMC Very hot Book 1 of many Definitely recommend
Paisley – Human woman with a hint of unknown shifter fae blood. One of the (un)lucky humans Selected, called a Shua’than by the fae.
Vrix (a.k.a Alpha / Red) – Alpha male of the wolfen (a fae caste). Paisley’s mate (calls her Bunny).
Finntyr (a.k.a Finn / Tiger) – King of the minotaurs (a fae caste). Paisley’s mate (calls her Petal / Pet).
Pascan – Bossy royal male fire nymph (a fae caste). Brother to Pascan and Kerax. Meets Paisley in a restaurant in the human realm. Paisley’s mate (calls her Phoenix).
Kerax (a.k.a Smirky Fire / Chuckles) – Cheeky royal male fire nymph. Brother to Pascan and identical twin to Zavix. Meets Paisley in a restaurant in the human realm. Paisley’s mate (calls her Sweet Flame).
Zavix (a.k.a Grouchy Fire / Sparky) – Grouchy royal male fire nymph. Brother to Pascan and identical twin to Kerax. Meets Paisley in a restaurant in the human realm. Paisley’s mate (calls her Princess).
Rhylan (a.k.a Kitten) – King of the feline shifters (a fae caste). Meets Paisley in her dream and marks her as one of the Selected. Paisley’s mate.
Newbury – Female nature nymph (a fae caste). Works with Paisley in the human realm and her best friend. Mikah – Male fae. Lives with Paisley in the human realm.
The hunter – Female fae with candyfloss pink hair. A royal bounty hunter responsible for kidnapping Paisley and taking her to Faerie for the Hunt.
Paisley's night was like another. Went out with friends, came home, and went to sleep. While sleeping, she was pulled into a weird dream. She lay in a beautiful field, where an Alpha Fae put his claim on her. Upon waking up, she realized that this was no normal dream. She had indeed been marked and was now summoned to join the Fae Mate Hunt. Though trying to find a way out of it, she is eventually found by the royal bounty hunter and thrown in.
When she wakes up, she realizes she is barely clothed, she is in the Fae realm, and something in the woods. She hears footsteps and runs for her life but is eventually caught by a royal shifter and his crew. After some extremely hot sex scenes with 3 shifters, 4 if you include Paisley, the book ends on a high note and her story continues in book 2.

This is a short story that follows Paisley, who lives in a world where fae coexist with humans. After an erotic dream with a hot and mysterious fae, Paisley is marked for the Hunt, a regular event where humans are taken to the fae realm and never seen again.
This book features non-con and knotting. I wasn't aware that it was part of a series when I originally picked it up, so was surprised when my questions weren't answered.
While a lot of the plot, pacing and characterisation seemed a bit all over the place, I would love to try to give the rest of this series a chance, as it was interesting enough to grab my attention, especially once the Hunt itself started.
As a side note, this is the first time I have read a book where I share the name with the main character. It was a strange experience as my name isn't common in media or elsewhere.
It’s a novella so you’re thrown in real quick with not a lot of information to go on (if you’re like me and have read an embarrassing amount of shifter/fae/fantasy books already you basically know what’s going to happen) but I loved reading it anyway.
There was also a bunch of humor I wasn’t expecting, case in point:
“If nobody noticed you’d gone till 12:10, then who’d kick up a fuss if you came back at 13:20? Office maths.”
“The fae were equipped with magic. One lone Karen with her hood up on the train wasn’t going to fool them.”
“If I could take a hint, which, according to my last boyfriend who’d tried to ghost me, I could not.”
There is some non-con/dub-con going on so if that’s not your thing then maybe pass on this. But I thoroughly enjoyed this and will read the next one.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. I am loving the whole element of the selection process for legendary monsters, that have brokered a deal with governors of power. After all monsters need love too right, only will Paisley fall in line within this bizarre new reality and can she have multiple please. Dreaming never felt so real, the beautiful creature with a deadly crown. When Mikah spots the little memto on his are, Paisley learns the chilling news. What happens next is ugly just like a typical Monday life goes on, while she is magically marked. Trapped in a magical forest, while wild royalty chased her down, the night was going to a long trying event when an alpha catches her first.
I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting, short read and caught my attention from the beginning. Paisley was having a nice, but strange dream when she woke up marked by a bite mark on her forearm. She dismisses it, but her fae roommate takes one look at it and recognizes it for what it is- she has been selected by a dream walker and would be taken to the fae world. Great world building and wonderful characters. Paisey didn't really know what to expect and tried to deny the whole thing even after receiving a formal invitation. I enjoyed not knowing everything and having to figure things out as she did. Ends in a cliffhanger. 4 stars.
I am very confused. The story started off well, but then seemed to just become non-con porn.
It starts with Paisley being selected - although it's not clear for what (even at the end of the book, unless it's selected to essentially be r*ped) Paisley is attracted to the fae who selects her, but then we do not 'see' this guy again. Being part of a series I guess it continues and maybe explains further. However, with this being 76 pages and kind of an intro into this series I would expect an explanation of what is happening. I will not be continuing this series, as this first book implies it will be more non-con porn.
I wasn't expecting this to be such a short story but I did enjoy it! I do wish we were given more details on the FMC life, maybe a why she has that half of her that is PNR but hopefully in the next book we can get answer's as to what is The Hunt or how it works! It was face paced and to the point, so if your looking for a good story then definitely read this one!
If you are looking for a read that is short, simple, and a lot dirty then pick this up. If you are wanting a more story like read, this one isn't for you. The book ends on a cliff hanger and will continue with the next book. You basically have a female that is chosen by the fae to be "hunted" across multiple books. Different males in each book with the same female through them all.
This is a short read and great sexy start to a series. I cannot wait to see what the Selection is for but after reading this I have twinkling idea..
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thought this story was a paranormal erotic romance. I did not realize it was erotica. I would not have downloaded it if I had known. The writing was also poor quality and it ended on a blasted cliffhanger. I recommend that people don’t waste their time reading this story. . I enjoyed this! This wasn’t just sex, but some setup and world building. The Selection is never really explained, and the protagonists’s quarter-shifter hereditary didn’t play much if a role.
But the story’s main purpose is sex and it does deliver on that. Great for smut!
Basically this book is a slow lead up to Paisley being hunted by shifter fae who want her for spicy purposes. And then a spicy cliffhanger ending. Not much background on the main character, which made me less invested in her story.
This is the series that will have you questioning your sanity and morals in al, the best ways..Great plot, thought, creative, and emotional and hormonal challenges. TRIGGERS FOR SOME but even as she's going through it the author did a creative job of making consentuality was there in some ways while exploring different sexual dynamics in others..
Very shallow, as i would expect from such a short story. But I did not expect it to essentially end in the middle of a sex scene, that was a little strange. I was not intending to buzz through the next novella so soon, but now I kind of feel like I have to. I dont have book 3 downloaded, so if book 2 ends in the same fashion I will not be continuing the series.
