Reach: Create the Biggest Possible Audience for Your Message, Book, or Cause

Rate this book
Cut through the noise and create the biggest possible audience for your work. This book offers a proven method for expanding your reach online so you can make a meaningful difference for others.

Anyone who makes the bold decision to put their ideas out into the world wants to reach as many people as possible. Unfortunately, too many think it’s a question of numbers—the more people you can get in front of, the better. But true reach is about expanding your audience while making a meaningful and enduring difference that has a lasting impact.

Reach provides a clear and structured approach to creating a successful online presence that will create the biggest possible impact for any message. Becky Robinson shares a framework to cultivate followers that requires four value, consistency, endurance, and generosity. When you make these four commitments, you’ll deliver memorable content on a regular basis while keeping the long-term view in mind and being committed to helping and sharing with others.

Robinson offers guidance on having realistic expectations and meaningful goals, encouraging readers to reflect on what they want to accomplish and with whom they want to connect. Readers will also learn how to overcome discouragements, create and repurpose content, and focus on the everyday activities that will spread ideas.

This is a long-term process—one that doesn’t normally offer immediate results or guarantee the desired outcome. But, as Robinson reminds us, creating from a place of generosity can lead to benefits greater than you can imagine.

Reach is a fantastic guide for anyone who is trying to build their platform, especially, if you’re just starting out. Reach will make your life easier. It’s an easy-to-understand guide on how to build your personal brand. Robinson helps you think through the many facets of branding and platform building. She explains her Reach framework and the fundamentals you’ll need to be successful. What are those fundamentals? Your: website, permission-based email list, content, and social media presence. This chapter alone is worth the price of the book. It’s easy to understand. It will save you a lot of time in research. And there are thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter to help you clarify your plan of action. Reach provides realistic information. Robinson doesn’t sugar-coat anything. She makes it clear; you’ll have to work hard to see success and that success may take years to achieve. She says, “Look at your ongoing efforts as a marathon, not a sprint.” Reach is an excellent resource. I highly recommend. After I read this wonderful book I gave it to my daughter who is a college student.

Listened to this on Hoopla and it was so good that I'm buying the book so I can reference it. I've already suggested it to several clients and colleagues. I especially want to review the section about how to repurpose my books into a lot of other forms of content.

I have a personal goal of finishing one book per month. For May 2022, I read Reach by Becky Robinson, which I received as a gift from the author. (Thank you.)

I found this to be an easy read, and a helpful book, particularly for small business owners and authors like myself. The four key principles of reach--longevity, generosity, consistency and value--make sense for anyone trying to bring more attention to a message, book, or cause.

Becky encourages people to develop a plan that they can practice consistently over time. She doesn't promise immediate, huge results, and doesn't focus exclusively on social media. This is a realistic approach.

Several bonus items are available to the reader via links to interviews, downloads, and questions for further thought or discussion. She also uses visual symbols to draw attention to specific concepts or examples of the four principles.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to bring an important message to the world. You can easily choose what suggestions resonate with you, and keep the book as a reference for years to come.

This was a practical, eloquent guide filled with solid advice on how to build an equally solid presence online and in other places through various social channels, reaching more people. Value, consistency, longevity, and generosity were stressed as being the keys to this with compelling arguments backing them up. The more simple and specific the examples were, the more I learned about what I’m doing right and what I need to work on. When terminology was dropped I found intimidating, invoking a world of business I didn’t understand, the more lost I felt. This may also be a sign of what I need to work on. Fortunately the latter didn’t occur often. Most of this book is engaging, easy to read, and helpful. It validated the power of consistency and value, offering something of merit on a regular basis to readers, followers, and friends. It reminded me of the rewards of long-term generosity in connecting with other people. I’m still wondering about longevity, how long I’ll be able to keep going. The advice offered is applicable not only to many a writer, but many a person with something to say and hoping others will listen. The advice offered helps to make some sense of the overwhelming power of marketing, putting it into context. It encourages the reader to start a dialogue with themselves to discover what they want, what they wish to accomplish, and what tools are available to make it happen. The focus is, as the title says, reach. How to reach out to people, how to share with them, how to get them to remember you. If you’re lost and a need a starting point in reaching out in this massive world of varied forms of communication, this book is a good place to begin.

This book must be one of the most inspiring and helpful books I have ever read about trying to reach your audience. Becky comes at it from a completely different angle. She comes from it from a place of expanding your audience to have a lasting impact by focusing on value, consistency, longevity, and generosity. Your main objective must be the value your message, book, or cause adds to people's lives. The investment of time over the long haul required will not be worth it for a one-week viral message that is only valid for a short while. She likens it to planting trees
that take time to grow but have an expanding reach over time. There is no hustle but a planned sustainable pathway to growth.

This book is about creating genuine connections with people and consistent messages with great value over the long haul. Each chapter gives strategies for the easily identifiable angles of her four pillars of value, consistency, longevity, and generosity. She practices what she preaches with generosity, allowing readers to delve deeper into additional resources with a QR code at the end of each chapter. She also finishes each chapter with discussion points that will help you focus on the next steps.

The chapter on creating valuable content has comprehensive strategies. When you read this, you understand why building over the long haul is a valuable tool that creates a legacy for the future. Having a consistent message for producing change. People resist change, but over the long haul, the influence of your message can make a real difference in changing cultures and systems. This is especially useful for people in underprivileged or non-dominant groups that their message is told over a more extended period for change to be effected.

Becky explains the importance of the practical side of your website, social media presence, networking, digital advertising, and virtual live events. These are long-term projects, so it does take time to grow, and they are the basis for starting and building up relationships. You have to be showing up consistently in a way that is sustainable for you over the long term.

Becky illustrates her philosophy with examples of different people who have used her method and been successful. Not necessarily in the way that the world may subscribe to success by being on the New York Bestsellers' list, but they have reached the people they have wanted to reach. They've been consistent over time, and they are known in their field of work and work circles.

This book is a worthwhile resource for anyone who wants to share an important message over the longer term. An addition to every author's bookshelf and NGO, and others who want to be thought leaders today. Becky also advocates and builds a case for helping the marginalized when you have the power to do so. I really liked this book, because of the practical, honest and ethical approach Becky takes to reaching your audience.

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity show up in my inbox to join the launch team for Becky Robinson’s (@beckyrbnsn) new book Reach: Create the Biggest Possible Audience for Your Message, Book or Cause. Before I go further, I want to identify a few things about myself.

1. I am a new author, with my book just going live on Amazon this month.
2. I have no real platform.
3. I am not famous.
4. The idea of a “personal brand” gives me the heebee jeebees.
5. There is a ton about the publishing, marketing, and writing world that I am ignorant about.

Throughout the entire writing and publishing process, I have consistently recognized my own need to push myself and grow. Thus, I thought this book may be a great way to do so. I signed up, was accepted, and have read Reach.

In short, I am tremendously grateful that I did.

First off, let me point out a couple of things that this book is not:

1. A get-rich-quick resource
2. A retread consisting solely of topics you will see on every book promotion site (e.g. sales funnels and podcast tours)

Robinson begins by tapping into her years of experience and laying out four key virtues that MUST undergird any effort to grow your reach. These virtues of value, longevity, consistency, and generosity are then connected to every facet of increasing your online reach. Robinson then demonstrates how any of these virtues if ignored, can potentially stifle the greatest possible reach you can have.

However, this book is not just a high-level discussion of abstract topics. Once these four virtues are established at the core of your efforts, Robinson then builds from the inside out demonstrating how other tactical approaches such as the permission-based email list, sharing content, building your brand, etc are developed on top of that.

Speaking of these tactical elements, Robinson challenged some of my preconceived notions about how I was marketing my book. I had felt that email-based efforts were a regression to the past and had focused all my energies on trying to engage an audience via social media coupled with personal interactions. However, in her experience-based, challenging way, Robinson made me rethink my entire approach. I now have a strategy to use and build a newsletter list with an aim to generously and consistently provide content of value.

But perhaps the most significant personal development of mine as a result of this book is the acceptance of developing a personal brand. As a pastor, the idea of having a personal brand seems disgustingly self-serving and egocentric. Yet, this perception stands in direct contrast with my desire to establish a far reach with a book that I am passionate about. At some point, I will likely write about my personal journey from avoiding to embracing a personal brand, but the short answer is this: Robinson demonstrated how a personal brand does not need to be smarmy. While still personally working through the issue, I am taking her instruction to heart and developing what my brand will be.

So why didn’t I give it five stars?
With all this praise heaped on Reach, why didn’t I give it five stars? While practical and well written, there were two chapters in particular that I had difficulty with, but for very different reasons.

Chapter seven focused on the topic of developing content. This coincides with Robinson’s virtues of value, generosity, and consistency. However, as referenced above, I’m a beginner. At one point in the book, Robinson classifies people like me as a “beginner beginner.” I felt this chapter breezed over how one begins in this realm of content creation and instead jumped deeply into how the content you’re already creating can be repurposed. Yes, at some point I will likely revisit this section and garner a great deal from it. However as a “beginner beginner” my head was swimming and I was considerably overwhelmed by it all.

The second chapter in question was Chapter 10 and bears the title, “Reach for Marginalized Voices .” While I felt the rest of the book was a practical take on how to increase your reach, this particular chapter seemed much more focused on the challenges of minorities in the publishing industry. Please understand me when I say this is a conversation that NEEDS to take place! I am not arguing against the value of such a conversation. However, I really felt like the topic was shoehorned in and fit rather awkwardly into the book as a whole.

Conclusion
While I believe there are some parts that could be improved, I see Reach as an incredibly valuable tool for individuals or organizations that want to increase their online impact. I highly recommend it.

Reach is a must-read for visionaries eager to share their ideas with the world. Operating within a saturated market can be a daunting task. Often, it feels utterly impossible to carve out a space for your book, product, or message.

Reach explains how to expand your impact by breaking the process down into four realistic, easy-to-follow categories. These four crucial elements will position a person’s writings for success while simultaneously fostering a sense of inclusion, growth, and compassion.

I loved the author’s emphasis on generosity. This is the crux of all meaningful nonprofit work, of course, but it is also an essential aspect of creativity: if our pieces are created or marketed solely for personal gain, their ability to touch the lives of audience members diminishes. Rapidly.

This book was a reminder of the inspiration we can spread if we remain consistent, focused on the long term, kind to others, and dedicated to a message with value and merit. I loved the relatable snippets, filled with humor and insight, embedded in each chapter. The Lady Gaga reference definitely made me smile. What an incredible source of hope to those of us with bold, beautiful goals.

I’ll be passing this book along to my friends in the industry and anyone interested in leaving a mark on others. The content of this book is immensely helpful to any individual who desires to connect with people on a bigger, deeper level.

As the audiobook begins, you hear the voice of the author! Not only is this book written as a conversation with the reader, but you can listen to Becky's voice reading her words. The pages provide a pathway to understanding how to bring your thoughts, ideas, and messages to others. You do not have to write a book to gain from the presentation of how to get the messages and causes dear to your heart to reach the biggest audience possible. Becky provides you with many ideas!

The authenticity of the work Becky does is evident in her experiences in how she reveals the components needed to bring value, consistency, longevity, and generosity in the work required to Reach others. You will not need to read or hear many pages before you realize she has “Reach-ed” a part of your heart so eager to begin to share your message and thoughts with others.
Becky opens the door, provides the ladder to climb, and you begin to take the steps with each page, building your way closer to the Reach you have desired. As she points out, we may not become famous, but our reach with our message is so worth the climb! A great book to read if you desire to bring value to others and solutions daily to a world in need. A great book to add to your resources!

I have been a Becky Robinson fan for a long time. And I’m glad others have the opportunity to become a fan now that her first book has been published. I did receive an advanced copy, but I also pre-ordered the book that I’m giving to a friend. “Reach” is a great read and practical guide to spreading your word. I’m not a blogger, author, or marketer. But there are nuggets that are applicable to anyone interested in being an influencer. Becky cleverly (in the sense of the word), integrates her four Reach Commitments (Value, Consistency, Longevity, and Generosity) throughout the book with elegance and simplicity, using icons for each Commitment. At the end of each chapter are “reflection” questions and a QR Code that links the reader to additional resources. Adding the QR Code is ingenious and something I’ve never seen in a book before. Best of all, from my experience, Becky genuinely practices what she preaches.

As a writer and author, we're constantly told to build a platform - often without tips and hints on how to do so. After we calm down and stop itching from the hives that broke out after hearing the "P" word yet one more time, we know we have to build the platform and following. But how?

Becky Robinson's book is a helpful tool for this purpose. Her system of symbols to signify your impact on the reader/listener of your message is so simple, it's embarrassing we all aren't implementing that system into our strategy to build the following.

While some items in the book weren't new to me, but given the application our actionable steps was where this book took it up a notch or two for me.

I recommend this book for anyone wanting to "Reach" an audience with the message you're passionate about.

Disclaimer: I received this book with no expectation in return. The opinions above are my own.

I’ve already bought several copies of this book to give to my writing clients because, as a ghostwriter and editor, many of my clients have questions about how to reach their audience in the run-up to publishing their books. I’m always looking for good resources to share with them about how to build and nurture their audiences.

In Reach, I love how the succinct, clear narrative describes how to use the four commitments in a way that any author can implement. The practical ideas are straightforward, useful, and easy to understand, without becoming overwhelmed by the entire process. Including stories about the experiences of other authors and entrepreneurs helps illustrate and bring the ideas to life and are fascinating and helpful. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to reach and grow their audience.

For those seeking an outstanding compendium of resources and strategy on strengthening and expanding their online platform ,network and audience, look no further. Author Becky Robinson does an outstanding job using the four pillars of her framework: longevity, value, consistency and generosity. Each Reach chapter consists of .pdf files and podcast recordings with some of the best and brightest marketers on the Internet. What caught my attention the most, however, was the title. “Reach: Create the Biggest Possible Audience for your Message, Book or Cause”. I have yet to read a book that addresses creating an audience for one’a cause. In today’s society where there are so many causes, REACH is an invaluable treasure chest or roadmap that can be applied using the aforementioned resources and four-pillar framework. REACH comes with my highest recommendation. Bravo!

I just finished reading this book from Becky Robinson. I gleaned so many great ideas from it that I will utilize for future books I want to write and or other ideas, causes, speaking engagements, as well as in my teaching. If you have an idea, cause, event, book, or other projects that you would like to share with the world, I recommend the tools, strategies, and extra freebies included in this book that will help to build your online presence. Through the four commitments of value, consistency, longevity, generosity, as well as resources from many others who are successful in a variety of ways, you will gain what you need for success. How many people will you reach? How far will your influence go? Join the journey and get going!

If you want to grow the impact of your work you need to read this book! It’s an excellent, comprehensive, accessible guide. Equally applicable to writers, speakers, coaches, educators—anyone with a message or a cause to share—it would also be the ideal companion for any small business owner. One thing I particularly appreciate is that Becky manages to blend the why with the how. In other words, she reminds us that we’re not in this to become a celebrity or a millionaire, but to make a lasting impact. She then takes us step-by-step through how to build reach for our work. Each chapter has reflection questions and there’s a great discussion guide at the end which you could use to start building your plan. A really, very excellent piece of work!

The author dives deep on what it takes to achieve the greatest possible influence for your book. She shares a framework to cultivate followers that requires four commitments: value, consistency, longevity, and generosity. She helps us understand why email lists and websites are critical pieces of any author’s platform. Most useful for me was chapter 7, in which she walks the reader through a detailed example of how she might take one 750-word article and spin it into 51 different pieces of content which could be shared in many ways and places, thus expanding the reach of her original article and bringing her message to countless additional people. Highly recommend for authors wanting to make the most of their content to reach more people with their message.

If you have a message to share with the world, this book can be a helpful resource. Founder & CEO of Weaving Influence, a marketing agency, she has helped authors launch over 150 books since 2012 - in other words, she knows a few things about how to extend the reach of your message.

I appreciate Becky’s emphasis on generosity over competition, & chapter 7 was revelatory: she tells readers how to multiply the content of one article into 51 different pieces - wow! Also, this is the first book I've seen that includes additional content at the end of each chapter through use of a QR code.

As someone who writes, I am going to scour this book repeatedly for encouragement & creative ideas.

The book Reach was a joy to read, as the author's tone shines throughout: a caring and practical friend who wants you to set realistic goals and achieve them. The four key commitments are well-explained and ample examples of their implementation are given throughout the book. The chapter on repurposing content is very helpful for anyone wanting to work more efficiently or get more out of the work they have already done! I believe Reach has useful concepts for authors and non-authors. I found Reach to have powerful ideas for advancing support for a youth development program I serve and I purchased an additional copy to share with the program leader.

One last 'must mention', Reach comes with A LOT of bonus material. It is like receiving a training course beyond the book. Again, this only adds to the value of the read and what you can take away from it.

Becky Robinson shares her experience in how to improve the Reach of your message through 4 ways - value, longevity, consistency and generosity. Two quotes that hit me:
"Reach is never static: it is the product of what you do to expand your work and its impact over time."
"If you agree that fame and fortune are less important than meaning and impact you are joining the ranks of the difference makers."
