YOU CAN COUNT ON ME

The McKeegans is a new series that is an Irish family that immigrated from Ireland and has settled in Montana. The family runs a prosperous ranch and captures and trains wild horses that they sell. Brayden enjoys working with the horses. He needs to handle some business in town, and his life will take an unexpected turn. Becoming the knight in shining armor and rescuing a damsel in distress leads to a life-changing moment.

Mallory has suffered heartache and a living nightmare that still haunts her, even in sleep. Their wagon train was attacked by Indians, with death, destruction, and personal assault has her wanting to help others, especially children abandoned and left to fend for themselves. She works hard running her eatery and uses what little profits she has to feed orphans and even adults needing help. Some people in town will share extra food, milk, and eggs, but she has more people needing food than supplies. One single local farmer thinks his offer of marriage is the answer, and when she declines his offer, he turns on her, spreading lies and rumors.

Mallory: I don't know what there is to talk about, Brayden.
Brayden: I wasn't so sure there was, myself, but those children in there, love you. They need you. I don't know what transpired in your past and it's up to you if or when you tell me. We could have a casual marriage.
Mallory: A casual marriage?
Brayden: One where we go to church picnics and barn dances together. One that is friendly to the exception of…
Mallory: One where we sleep in our own bedrooms?
Brayden: I think the vital thing would be to have your reputation back and keep those children fed. I wouldn't prevent you from doing what you do. People will go back to talking about whatever they talk about and leave you alone.
Mallory: Let's just get this done.

The story's plot will bring Brayden to town, and before he knows it, he is aiding Mallory, who runs the eatery. Throw in the good, the bad, and the gossipers into the story, and you will have plenty of mystery, suspense, and plenty of ugliness. Brayden only wanted to offer a solution, and another eavesdropping led to rumors being spread. Backed into a corner, the only solution is to provide her marriage to save her reputation—but that comes at a high price. The saying, "no good deed goes unpunished," is true in this case. The McKeegan family is supportive of Brayden and Mallory.

"Their marriage of convenience was turning into a nightmare of inconvenience. Things were going to have to change, whether Mallory agreed."

The story is a fast-paced, clean Western history with plenty of things happening. Mallory and Brayden are both kind people, and he helps her show the people of the town that she isn't backing down. He will have to alter his life a bit to accommodate her feeding others, but isn't that part of marriage?

"There was a point she would have declared she'd been cursed, but not she believed in blessings, and she'd had a plethora of them."

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I have pre-ordered a copy to help support this author.

This is a wonderful story of God's healing in Mallory's life. She suffered horribly when she was 15. The wagon train that she and her parents were on was attacked by Indians. She walked for several weeks before she came upon the town. Now she runs a cafe and feeds the hungry especially the children that had been abandoned in town. She hopes to open an orphanage in the building next door to her cafe but all of her money from the cafe is going towards the food for the hungry. She is at her wits end. One of the local farmers who has been helping Mallory, Jacob, said that she should marry him in order for him to continue with his help.

Brayden is a horse trainer and son to Eion McKeegan. He comes to partner with Mallory but things quickly get out of hand and before you know it, Brayden and Mallory are getting married. Mallory never wanted to marry due to the events in her past. She cannot bear to be touched and now she is marrying a McKeegan of all things!

This wonderful story is written in a dual POV format. I love that as I can get a better connection with a character with reading their thoughts during a scene.

This is a truly enchanting story of how God's grace healed the pain and suffering of one woman with the help of a good man by her side. Yes, this is an inspirational story but it does not come off as preachy (at least to me).

I did read the first story of this series but you don't have to to fully enjoy and understand this one. I so look forward to more of this series.

Mallory and Brayden's Story . . .

Life hasn’t been easy for Mallory, but she tries to do what is right and cares for others. Having lived through a wagon train attack, she doesn’t enjoy being touched. But in her concern for others, she opens a cafe and depends on her income to feed the hungry.

When Jacob, a man who has been generous and provided milk and vegetables to her in return for weeding his garden or cleaning his home, tells her he needs a wife. If she will not marry him, then he will not provide any food for her to cook for the homeless. He was angry when she refused his proposal, thinking she believes she is too good for him. He tells her that when the hungry children cry, it may change her mind and she can come back. But if she won’t marry him, he is done helping her.

When the McKeegans hear about Jacob’s actions, Brayden offers to ride into town and “convince” Jacob to leave her alone. Mallory does not trust men and never intends to marry. But Jacob thinks he can break down her resistance if he keeps bothering her. Brayden finally offers to be a partner in her business and he has the money to buy the food for her. Jacob hears her accept Brayden’s offer and assumes he asked her to marry him. Now he will spread rumors, lies, and cause a scandal. If she loses her customers, she can’t feed the homeless. And when the townspeople start condemning her for her actions, Brayden announces that they are getting married. He even makes up a schedule for how they will do things. Will Brayden have more plans to fix this – because the stubborn woman has already burned the schedule he drew up for them? How will this marriage ever work out?

Mallory Casey ran a Cafe by day at a small in Montana and during the evening she fed the hungry children along with any adults that wished to come for food. Her biggest dream was to eventually open an orphanage for all the homeless children in town. She was running out of money to feed the hungry, when she asked one of her normal donors for additional help. The only way he would help was if she would marry him. She told him no, but he went around town telling everyone, they were getting married. That was when Brayden McKeegan heard trouble was brewing in town. He went into town trying to head the the problem off, but instead everything blew up in his face. He tried to enter into a partnership with Mallory, but the other guy walked in only catching part of the conversation. This guy ran around town quickly sulling Mallory's reputation putting the people of the town in great distain against her. Until, Braydon informed the town him and Mallory were getting married, but she did not wish to marry one. She had been on own for years and was use to being independent. Plus, after the Indians attacked the wagon train she was on, she had no use for men. The McKeegan men move fast along with the local minister as Braydon and Mallory were married by sundown thanks to his dad and the minister. Braydon had his job cut for his with Mallory as she was not much of for compromise. He was slow but sure to help every step of the with her plans. He learned to love the kids as much as she did and found a compromise for all their problems. His family supported everything he did making the town stand up and take notice. I especially like the minister on Sunday standing up for Mallory and telling the busy bodies to mind their own business. Mallory was a good Christian woman with a kind, loving, and caring heart. Truly a magnificent story with Mallory a true heroine and Braydon a true hero for all they did for each other and the town.

This is a wonderful, heartwarming book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Kathleen Ball has a way with words that just draws you in and this book does the same. Masterfully written with wonderful characters and an intriguing storyline that keeps you interested throughout the book. Mallory is the only survivor of an Indian attack on the wagon train she was on. After struggling for days to finally make it to a town, she opens a cafe to support herself. But, upon seeing all the homeless and hungry orphans, she uses all of her profits to feed them and it's still not enough. She has to resort to donations from surrounding farms to help supplement her food supply. One farmer decides to force her to marry him in order for her to keep getting food. That's when Brayden steps in. He proposes a business deal, but when the proposal is overhead it's assumed to be a marriage proposal. When gossip starts being spread around town about Mallory, he marries her to save her reputation and the cafe. But, even this doesn't stop the rumors. As his family rallies around them and they try to overcome the obstacles surrounding them, they both realize they are developing feelings for each other. Will they ever have a real marriage? Read this heartwarming, faith filled book to see how the story ends. I highly recommend this book and series, especially if you like historical western romance.

Mallory has had a difficult life; she was almost killed on a wagon train out West. When she arrived in town, she opened a restaurant. There were hungry people (especially children) in town, and she tried to fill the need with her own small earnings. With the help of town folks, she tried to keep them fed. However, the town's kindness eventually ebbed, and Mallory had difficulty getting enough food to prepare.

When a local man insisted that Mallory marry him to get any more food, Mallory became desperate. However, Brayden heard about the farmer's insistence that she marry him and offered to marry her himself. He promised it would be a partnership -- not a real marriage.

This is the story of how Mallory grew to trust Brayden, and Brayden learned how to be a husband. When Brayden found that Mallory wanted to adopt Willy, he was flummoxed. However, he realized this was important to Mallory and agreed to start the process.

This was a sweet story of healing through love and patience. Mallory was the lone survivor of an Indian attack on her wagon train and as a result, can't trust men and can't bear to be touched. She has a heart for the children who have been abandoned and she feeds them from her Cafe. When a man who has given her food to help them, tries to force her to marry him, she refuses and Brayden McKeegan steps in and offers to be a partner in her business. When his "proposal" is overheard rumors begin to spread of inappropriate behavior and Brayden marries her to save her reputation. As they work together to help the children and homeless, their feelings for each other grow. When more rumors begin to spread, the McKeegan family rallies in support. With much faith and patience, Brayden helps Mallory to find healing.

Mallory, who survived an attack on the wagon train that she was in, has been left traumatised by her experience. She runs a cafe, which supports her work with feeding local homeless orphans, but she eventually runs out of money. As a result she is being bullied into marriage, however is rescued by Brayden.
I really felt for Mallory and was amazed at what resilience she has, despite her troubles. As a man reading these type of books I tend to imagine myself in the role of the male character, and would be proud to be like Hayden. The story manages to convey their situation really well, it is difficult to imagine nowadays that such conditions existed for orphans back then. Overall I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author through Booksprout, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Wow, what a fantastic historical read. Mallory had a tragic past that she kept hidden. She just wanted to run her cafe, feed the hungry children and the homeless. Jacob, a dirt farmer, helped her with supplies for her cafe but he wanted more. He wanted a wife in exchange for the food. When Brayden hears that Jacob propositioned her, he proposed to be her business partner. Although all Jacob heard was a proposal and started spreading gossip about Mallory and Brayden forcing Brayden to protect both of their reputations. He told the gossips that they were getting married on Sunday. An emotional storyline filled with soapy feelings. The characters are wonderful and believable. Brayden was such a gentleman and put Mallory’s feelings above
his own. I highly recommend this book..

Great Read

Montana is not only a beautiful state but has many beautiful people. Mallory had much to overcome but by faith and a gentle man she did. Her family and the wagon train was aLl murdered by a band of rogue Indians, who raped and tortured her & left her for dead. God had a plan for her life and the many orphaned children in the town she managed to walk too. She owned a cafe but used her income to feed the orphans and hungry. Brayden was a rancher who had a penchant for detailed planning. After one of her farmer donors told her she had to marry him or no more donations and he threatened her. Brayden heard the threat and married but couldn’t take her as a true wife for two years. Through prayer, family, love and the Pastor she was able to be a wife and mother to Willy, their adopted son. A must read for joy and tears.

The author has penned a wonderful story that is sweet and heartwarming, yet one that is filled with human frailties which include: bullying, gossip, fear, trauma, rejection, a forced marriage and romance. This is Mallory and Brayden's story, and the character development is outstanding. Mallory has experienced a traumatic event in her life and is sure men cannot be trusted. Brayden, in an effort to help her causes the town's gossips to get busy. The couple marry to save Mallory's reputation but their relationship and marriage will take a lot of work to ever become a HEA. Will Brayden be able to convince Mallory she is loved? Will Mallory learn to trust Braydon? Be sure and read this outstanding story to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Mallory arrived in Longford with little and a secret, she's managed to finance a cafe and is now giving away food to the local orphans and homeless, but the money has run out and she's behind on her rent.
Brayden is one of the McKeegans, owners of a large ranch just outside of Longford. He says something that he thinks will rescue Mallory from ruining her reputation, but he only makes things worse. Mallory has been badly treated and doesn't want a husband, Brayden doesn't want to marry and be responsible for a wife.
Can they agree to differ? Will Mallory get over her abuse?

Another great story in the McKeegans series. Kathleen Ball is a master story teller! I love the stories she weaves. Brayden and Mallory are thrust together to soothe a town that has become a bullying town against Mallory.
Mallory feeds the hungry children in town, and needs her cafe to earn the money to buy the food she feeds them with.
Brayden and Mallory are rushed to marriage, but have a long way to go before their marriage will be real and loving. But Brayden is patient, kind and caring. Mallory can't help but be released gradually from the brutal past that taught her men were cruel. Brayden is just the man to help her.

Mallory had so many strikes against her starting with what happened to her and her parents and then someone she thought she could trust turns against her and tries to manipulate her into marrying him. Brayden comes to her rescue offering a marriage in name only, but he must learn how to compromise, have patience, and accept that her dreams and needs are important too while fighting against the townspeople’s judgements. It seemed like they were quick to cast stones and make her feel less than for things she has no control over. It was wonderful what she did for the homeless orphans that were cast over by others.

Great Story! Mallory has survived a wagon train massacre and has begun a new life running a restaurant and feeding the children and other homeless people that are hungry. When Brayden sees her being bullied by a man insisting that she marry him he steps in and says they are getting married. Mallory has no plans to ever marry but agrees that this is her best choice. This begins their love story. In her usual eloquent style Kathleen Ball weaves a story of family, faith, and love. With a cute orphan thrown in for good measure! Don’t miss this new clean, inspirational story!

Rumors

Rumors are a major plotline in this story. Brayden and Mallory are caught up in this whirlwind. She has a dream and compulsion to feed and house street children. He wants only to tame wild horses. They arent in love or even in like. Just indifferent. How can rumors be creating all the challenges and complications? Can they keep the different rumors from destroying their lives or do the rumors tie them. This exceptional book will keep you turning pages and see what next!

A beautiful story.
This is shaping up to be a very good series. I really enjoyed the first book and this one did not disappoint. This was an impressive and inspiring book. So much had occurred in Mallory’s life yet she still had faith even when things were going in such a horrible way. Brayden was truly a special character and his family was outstanding. Written with heart this faith based work is a marvel I am so thankful I got the chance to read it. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Such a sweet marriage of convenience to true love story and wonderful addition to the series. Brayden and Mallory are a wonderful couple who had to learn to help each other and work at putting their different wants into a marriage. The love and support they both gave to the orphans and the love and support of their family was wonderful. If you like sweet, clean Western romance about marriage of convenience mixed with orphans, you'll like this book.

Brayden and Mallory's journey of love is filled with friendship, heartbreak, rumors, lies, and a marriage of convenience. Mallory owns the local café and not only feeds the locals but she uses her income to feed the homeless/hungry. I loved how Brayden came to Mallory's rescue and won her heart over. Their happily ever after wasn't an easy one but it made it that much more special in the end. This is book two in The McKeegans series and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Mallory has a kind heart and wants nothing but to take care of the innocent street kids. Braydon just wants to tame wild horses. When the two meet all he wants to do is help her. They do not love or even like each other, but the longer they are together the love develops as does Brayden's patience. Rumors fly throughout this novel as nobody can stay out of their business. Great addition to the series. Shoes that grace, patiece, and the belief in the lord goes a long way.

Living in a world that now embraces "anything goes"; trying to stay upright in a world that embraces Secularism as a religion; watching the daily corruption and depletion of morals - to be able to take a breather from all that garbage is really refreshing.

Kathleen keeps God smiling with her stories laced with 'humanism' and the embracing of Christianity.

That's a gift, a commitment to meaningful and refreshing entertainment that is coupled with the ability to make you want to 'turn the page' and find what is coming next!

God Bless you Kathleen

Brayden and Mallory

Mallory was a very smart single woman who opened her own Cafe. She was extremely independent with no intentions of ever marrying. With the proceeds from her Cafe she would buy food. She began feeding homeless children and it was getting expensive to make ends meet. She could get some local ranchers to
donate food. Brayden offered to marry Mallory and she said yes. But it wasn’t to be a normal marriage. Read to find out how these two unlikely people were going to make this work or not.

The residents of Longford are quick to judgement (especially poor judgement) and condemnation. This second book about the Keegan family primarily concerns Brayden, a straight arrow who never plans on marriage particularly a marriage of convenience, and Mallory, who owns a café and has a soft heart for orphans and the hungry, and who can’t stand to be touched by any man. Those very descriptions lead to an uncomfortable marriage of convenience. This is a wonderful story of how those two young people worth through their problems and the fickleness of the town. I really enjoyed this book.

This western is quite a good one. It is totally going into the category of very clean stories, but still it does not suffer from not including any +18 scenes as the storytelling is good. The storyline is good and the characters are mostly just so easy going and well written that overall it is a delight to read this one. I am very glad that I can give it fantastic four stars.

Brayden: The McKeegans

This was a story about another brother, Brayden. Mallory ran a cafe and served meals at night. She also fed the orphans after finishing feeding the people in her restaurant. People would just leave their kids, and they would wake in the morning with no parents. Mallory had taken to caring for these children. This story entails more about Mallory and her trials before she came to this town. Enjoy her adventure .

Sweet clean romance with Mallory who is struggling to keep her cafe open and feeding the homeless in town when Jacob offers to help her if she marries him but she has vowed to never marry. When Brayden hears what has happened in town he offers to help her but rumor has it he has also offered to marry her so the only way to stop the rumors is to marry for convenience.

It’s rare that I don’t finish a book, but I was unable to finish this one. I wanted to like the story, the blurb promised a nice western romance. Unfortunately the plot and character development needed a lot more work in terms of making it credible and engaging, and I was a little over halfway through when I realised it wasn’t getting any better. Perhaps I am a little picky about plot and character development, but this one was not ringing true and so many places it became a little frustrating.

Brayden and Malory's story is a beautiful read for all ages. It is a sweet western romance with great insights of hardship and what it was like to immigrate from Ireland and settle in Montana. It is the second book in the series, but it is a standalone read with many aha moments of the times. **I was gifted "Brayden: The McKeegans via Booksprout, leaving my review based on my reading.** 4.5 Stars!

Love is patient

I absolutely loved book 1 and didn’t know what to expect with book 2. Reading some of the reviews I could tell heavy subject matters were addressed. I am glad I gave this a read. It truly was a look into the patience and understanding of love. Brayden was exactly what Mallory needed and the same for Mallory. It was admirable the way each character approached their future with each other. Five stars truly and recommended.

Learning to trust

Was a good book about a kind thoughtful woman who had been violated by Indians and left for dead along with her family. She struggled to have a small cafe but couldn't ignore the hungry and little children homeless and hungry. She begged for food for feed them. People looked down their noses and when they found out about how she had been treated by Indians they quit eating there and donating to feed the kids. She didn't give up.
