He’s the best doctor in his field, and the sole reason I came here as an intern. He hasn’t talked to me once, but it looks like he’ll finally have to. Because I got him into trouble, and now we have to do night shifts together. My one stupid mistake put him in a compromising position.
I came here to learn from him, and really, that’s all I wanted from him. I admire him for his calm demeanor, for his steady hands in a situation of chaos. But there is a fire somewhere behind his eyes that is getting to me. And sometimes, just sometimes, I cannot stop the flood inside of me.
It makes my skin tingle where his hands happen to touch mine. It makes me want to feel if his body runs as hot as his kind is famous for. It makes me forget that this is forbidden, that he’s my boss, and I’m an intern. And I know I have only two ignore my feelings and focus on my job. Or…
Or I could do something truly stupid.
The Shifter Medical Center is famous for treating shifters of all kinds for broken bones, deadly diseases, shattered hearts, and incurable crushes. The doctors here will tend to your every need and make you heal in more ways than one…
I have dreamed of writing books since I was a little girl. Always reading, always imagining fantastical worlds and characters, I finally decided to publish the crazy figments of my imagination. I write about shifters, dragons, magic, and hidden worlds that I would like to visit one day...
In my daily life, I love cooking, taking long walks with my wonderful husband, following courses on new topics that I know too little about, and visiting family and friends in faraway places.
Thanks for experiencing and sharing my imaginative world with me!
Aiden is a doctor who is the best in his field and the reason that Lily chose to come there as an intern. They both work in the Shifter Medical Centre which is famous for treating all kinds of shifters for broken bones, deadly diseases and shattered hearts. When a human is accidentally taken there with a magical ailment Lily will ignore protocol and treat him before he dies. Aiden has not spoken to her yet but that is certain to end as she has now got him into trouble and they will have to do night shifts together as a punishment. Aiden is very cool in any situation and has the steady hands we all want our doctors to have, and she really only went there to learn from him, but sometimes she catches herself when their hands accidentally touch and her skin tingles to want to feel much more from him - something that is forbidden as he is her boss. Should she resist or do something stupid? Can this doctor tend to her every need?
I enjoyed this nice book with the tale of the bigotry and prejudice that existed between shifters and humans. That definitely provides a nice parallel to many instances in today's world. The lust between Aiden and Lily was off the charts and they certainly had to give in to it before they lost their minds. I was thrilled when they realised that life apart was no life at all and that they belonged together. Written well which meant it was easy to read and understand. Contains a little mature content.
Aiden is a Doctor who has a sterling rep and who has published papers on a new specialty, that he has perfected through the ages. One day, as he is elbow deep into a chest cavity, trying to save a young woman's life, the unthinkable happens. In an adjoining trauma room, a young intern , Lily, is treating a human male in a shifter medical center. That is an absolute No, No that will have unforseen repercussions on both their lives and professional careers. This is a well-written, masterfully crafted story that encompasses love, dedication, fighting for what is right, and overcoming racial barriers that have been in place for so long without any reason other than prejudice. The story is gripping in itself and the touch that the author brings to it, is without a doubt, what makes it a 5 Stars rated page-turner. I look forward to reading the sequel and recommend this book.
First of all I think authors should always mention as a warning that the books are in third person POV. Most people hate it and very few authors can pull it off without it being confusing or hindering to the flow of the plot.
In this case, the flow of the plot was hindered everywhere. Not only the 3rd person POV but the endless inner monologues (pages of it - in an novella!) didn't help. Or cutting a scene in half and then later tell us about the rest.
Absolutely terrible.
This is set in a different world than we are used to when reading about shifters and I hated it. It wasn't really built but one thing was: prejudice everywhere.
The first half of the book was basically an ER episode. The second half was a half assed romance with stupid people who don't communicate.
I can't find a positive about this book and I only finished it because I skimmed from 70% onwards.
“I can’t be the first draconian you’ve ever met.” “Oh, can’t you?” she said. He seemed genuinely surprised at that revelation. “I grew up in the Rockies, okay? Your kind doesn’t exactly flock to the woods. It’s like you’re avoiding the cliché, or something. Dragons and their dens.”
This one didn't really capture me as much as most forbidden/boss romances typically do. I loved Aiden and Lily as a couple but the book was really slow to start. I understand Aiden's hesitation but we did not get really much of a backstory as to why he was so closed off. Lily was funny and caring and I think I was really missing Greys anatomy when I picked it up because I got very much Derek and Meredith vibes.
Either way the spicy scenes were good but I was very disappointed that not once did we see how exactly Aiden becomes a dragon and what is even the point.
I just started this series and love it. I also love the books who get into full shifters and halflings since it's not a common topic. I do wish it was longer. I love when the books talk completely about what is happening with characters as well as the mad love/lust. When it's shorter these are cut in half you get the meanings of the book but with least words. I'm on to book 2 I'll let you know.
A different take on practicing medicine combining magic with standard medical care to treat shifter patients highlights this story. Full of characters who represent the best and the worst regardless of their designation (homo sapien or shifter). a fascinating read.
The characters were very likable. They were interesting and I loved the way they interacted with each other. It kept the story rolling along. I really enjoyed reading it.
This is a wonderful, romantic book set in a hospital. The main characters are a doctor and an intern. The unexpected twist is this is a shifter hospital and the intern is half human. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
