Only a few days into camp and socially challenged Cassie has already kissed a boy! There’s a big part of Cassie who really likes having feelings for someone. But another part of her wonders if Micah will just distract her from her surfing. And then there’s a third part—the part that’s avoided the ocean since that fateful day. And if that part doesn’t find a way to get over itself, Cassie may have to say good-bye to pro-surfing forever.

Saw this for 20 cents at my thrift store and decided to give it a try.

Fun read for that fat 13 year old girl that is sometimes my inner child. This book is sweet and romantic in a way that chaperoning a 7th grade dance might be.

I was pretty sure after reading the opening chapters that I smelled a hint of bubblegum and pink nail polish but then it might have just been my imagination...

Definitely not for the more mature tastes but then neither is a hot fudge sundae.

The insecurity of ALL of the characters might make this a bit too sappy for some but I found it endearing.

I wouldn't recommend a steady diet of these bon bons but when you're in the mood for something sweet...

4th quarter book report
Basic Book Info:
Title: Summer Confidential- Sunset
Author: Melissa J. Morgan
Date Published: 2009
Genre: Romance and Action
Summary:
Summer Confidential Sunset is the second book in the series after Summer Confidential Sunrise. In the first book your learn that Danica and Micah dated but then broke up, and know Micah and Cassie like each other. The bad part is that Micah and Danica are going to a surf competition. In this book they left for the competition, and Cassie is left behind wondering if something will happen between Micah and Danica on the trip. Cassie still afraid of surfing, and while Danica is gone she has to fill in as a surf instructor. Since she is still scared to surf she pretends to be sick so she won’t have to teach, but while she is in her room pretending to be sick Danica’s phone keeps going off (she left it when she went to the meet), so Cassie tries to turn it on silent. While she was trying to turn it off she accidently opens a text message from Micah which makes her think him and Danica’s dating. While all this is going on at camp Micah runs into Cassie’s old surf friend, Bo who talks about Cassie and then Micah thinks him and Cassie have a thing. When Micah and Danica come back to camp Micah and Cassie get into a fight because they both think that they like someone else. It turns out not true and later forgives each other and start dating.
Theme of the book:
The theme of the book is that things may not turn out as they appear as they seem. The first example of this is at a part were Tori, Cassie’s cousin was drowning, and everyone goes after her. It turns out Tori was pretending to be drowning to get this guy she has a crush on attention. Secondly, when Micah thinks that Cassie and Bo have a thing because they know so much about each other and Cassie acts differently around Bo then she does with him. Later you learn that Bo and Cassie have been good friends for a long time and they spent a lot of time together training and competing tohether. The last example I can think of is when Cassie read a text message on Danica phone from Micah saying that Danica left hair clips in his room and he had a good time with her she starts to wonder why Danica was in his room and what was so good about the time they spent together. She thinks something happened with them and starts to panic, but it turns out Danica let someone get into her head at the meet and didn’t do her best and left the meet. Micah followed her to figure out if she was okay and make her feel better. When Micah comes back to camp and explains everything to Cassie.
More about the book:
The audience for this book is for mostly teenagers who are into romance and action. There is a little bit of action because of the surfing, but there is more romance then action. The writing style of the author is descriptive, but a little confusing. Time to time the author would change the point of view. Sometimes it was from Cassie’s view sometimes from Danica view, and sometimes Micah’s point of view. This was confusing because sometimes would get lost in who was telling the story, and since both Dianc's and Cassie like Micah you get confused who is think or saying what about Micah and the relationship they share with him. Summer Confidential Sunset is similar to Summer Confidential Sunrise, but is also different. One difference is that in Sunrise she was afraid to go into the water at all, but in Twilight she well goes into shallow water. Another way they are different is in Sunrise it’s more about the surfing and her fear if the water, but in Twilight it’s more about Cassie’s and Micah’s relationship. One way they are similar is she is still trying to get over her fear of the water. In both books she is trying to get over the fear but every time she goes into the water and goes as far as she can she feels like there is a wall and she starts to panic and being unable to breath. Another way they are similar is that in both the books her and Micah like each other but someone or something is pushing them apart.
Quote:
A quote from the book that provides a good sense of the author’s wrieghting and pips your interest into the book is on page 193 paragraphs 3. “Once again it was her head versus her body. Her brain was convinced that pulling away from Micah was the right thing to do. But the rest of her-all the soft squishy stuff inside her- was in total revolt. Tears were slipping down her cheeks and her heart seemed to be writhing around in agony.” This quote is from the author over looking Cassie right now. I picked this quote because it shows how descriptive she goes about everything, in this point she went into description about how Cassie felt when she got into a fight with Micah. It also gives you interest because you don’t know how the rest turns out, how did they get there, and how they feel about everything going on.
Anecdote:
One way me and Cassie are similar is that we both don’t want to hear or see what we don’t want to and when she see or hear it we don’t want to believe it but won’t get it out of our heads. This book has affected me because I know see how to deal with it when you get something into your head and can’t get it out. This helped now because I don’t worry or think about the same thing anymore for a couple of days. I enjoyed this book, because you get so into the book that you can’t put it down and when you think you know what will happen it will get all twisted up. The thing I didn’t like is that when the author would change who the narrarateor was following it would get really confusing you get lost with what’s happening with the interaction with the characters.

I read this a milion years ago, meaning 2010 when I was 13, but I do remember really enjoying it. That's why it got 5 stars. also tfw you realise after all these years that you read the second book in a series thinking it was a stand alone. School libraries, can't live with them, can't live without them.

Sunset wasn't my favourite book of the trilogy because I found it as more of a filler instead of major stuff and I wish everyones favourite pro surfer would finally get back on her board and show Danica who's boss!

This one was really good! Bascially starts right where sunrise left off and everything goes from there and it's amazing. Everything builds up and there is lots of drama with the characters until finally it reaches a fantastic climax ;)
