Sky’s world turned upside down when she met rock star Dylan Morgan and exploded when she discovered his hidden past.
Four months since Sky learned Dylan’s devastating secret and he left, she’s trying to piece her life back together. Without an explanation from Dylan, Sky has no choice but to move on and forget the rock star who captured her heart. But can she?
Dragged back into the life he ran from, Dylan continues to spiral downwards as he copes with his fame the only way he knows how. Shattered by the revelation that Sky knows his darker past and unable to let her go, he finally forces himself to return to England and explain. But is the truth any better than the lie she believes?
Sky and Dylan reconnect and attempt to build on the shaky foundations created by their secret summer romance. But when the past collides with the present, the events send more shockwaves through their lives.
Taking place in the epicentre of the Blue Phoenix world, Sky and Dylan’s story continues amongst the chaos surrounding the band at home and on tour.
Falling is the second book in the Blue Phoenix rockstar romance series. Perfect for fans of captivating steamy romance, hot and brooding British rock stars, and strong, sassy heroines. The first book Interlude must be read first.
Falling was previously published as Falling Sky by Lisa Swallow in 2014. This new edition only has minor changes.
Please the books are written in British English and contain spelling and idiom that could look incorrect to some readers.

Lisa is an author of new adult romance and writes both paranormal and contemporary, often with a side of snark. Lisa is originally from the UK but moved to Australia in 2001 and now lives in Perth in Western Australia with her husband, three children and dog.
Book two begins with Sky and Dylan still apart as he tours the US. She is in Bristol and unsettled as ever, she is unsuccessfully trying to move on without him. But their story is not done yet. A lot is happening in this book, mostly Dylan’s drama, but Sky is there supporting him. She is a stronger woman than I, to put up with his crap and keep him in his place.
So far, this series has me hooked, with the rockstar trope pulling me in. The writing has me engaged with enough twists making it hard to put down. The ending has me happy for now, I need more, can not wait for book three.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
After a lot of back and forth, Dylan and Sky finally made it! Sky had a lot of problems with Dylan's fame and lifestyle, which is understandable, but they broke up then made up so many times it was hard to keep up. However, I did enjoy this book, much like the first one. The Blue Phoenix group are a bit rough around the edges, but they are a cool group and I look forward to reading the rest of their books :)
Blue Phoenix reviews Summer Sky ❤❤❤❤ here Falling Sky ❤❤❤ See below! Unplugged ❤❤❤ here Rising ❤❤❤❤❤ here Reverb ❤❤❤❤❤ here Forever Sky ❤❤❤ here
Summer Sky left on a really dark and heavy cliff-hanger. Luckily, I read these books years after the series finished, so I didn’t have to wait to find out what happens next. I was quick to pick up this second instalment in the Blue Phoenix series, as I was very eager to find out what would happen after the accusation bomb were dropped.
Falling Sky picks up four months later and Sky and Dylan has not been in touch since Dylan walked away and continued his tour. Now that the tour is ended he’s back home in England, once again he’s close to Sky, but as he hasn’t offered up any explanation, he feels further away than before. As Sky hasn’t heard anything she’s trying her best to move on, but her heart won’t let her. Dylan’s best friend can’t stand to see his suffering so she reaches out to Sky
Dylan and Sky does end up giving their relationship another chance, but their hardships aren’t over. For every step forward, they seem to be forced back even further.
This book felt more realistic to me, so if I was rating it purely on the plot I would give it 4 but unfortunately, I just can’t cope with Sky, so it remains 3 ❤❤❤. That girl is somewhat of a 'drama queen'. Everything in her life seems to be about her and no matter what the people around her do, it's all too much for her. Sky's self-importance very much reads like it's her way or the highway - which became exasperating after a while.
I still love Lisa’s writing style, though, I did find myself being a bit bored at times as it felt like the story was dragging. At the same time, it also spent time setting up the other books for the other Blue Phoenix members. The next one in line is Unplugged, Liam’s book. But I can’t say I’m looking forward to it, as I don’t feel like I have any connection to him. I’ll probably give it a go, who knows, Lisa might surprise me again.
Either way, for now this is goodbye to Dylan and Sky.
This is the sequel to Summer Sky. After a cliff hanger split in the last book, Sky and Dylan are trying to make their way back together. The other band members are not really helping the situation, but Sky agrees to go on the road with Dylan as they try to figure out their life together. Then her best friend back in England is in a car accident and left in a coma and she is split between loyalties. Basically I like this couple and would like to see them finally settle down. It's a pretty quick read with emphasis on the life of the band members who are living outside of what I would call real life.
**I was extremely lucky to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.**
Phew!! Here we are....Book two. An eagerly awaited sequel that was badly needed, to put straight the 100's of questions I had buzzing around from the end of Summer Sky. Anyone who has read Summer Sky knows how it ends, and how important it is to get hold of Falling Sky and find out what happened. Summer Sky started Dylan and Sky's story. They crash into each other literally and find out just how hard it is to walk away. Through all the ups and downs they experience along the way, you can feel the building affection they have for each other, and just how strong it becomes. Yet, not all want Dylan and Sky to have their Happy Ever After. Sins of the past are dragged up and rehashed to cause some rifts between them. That is exactly how Summer Sky was left. A secret was confessed by someone and left Sky questioning Dylan. Here we are in Falling Sky and it's four months later. Four months for Dylan and Sky to get on with their lives as they were before they met. They are both trying to survive and forget about each other, but that's never going to happen.
"Did it work?" I ask harshly, "Do you feel nothing?" "Until I saw you again, then everything flooded in. I ache to have you back, Sky."
I'm not going to give any details, or spoilers away. It was quite a shocking and tense ending to Summer Sky and I really don't want to spoil the story by giving anything away. I can only go on to say just how much I loved this conclusion to Sky and Dylan's story. Right from the start, I was transported straight back into their story. It hadn't felt like I had to wait at all. The uncertainty and confusion that Sky felt before had just multiplied and morphed into a sadness at not knowing anything for sure. I just felt so sad for both of them. They needed each other yet tried to move on, it didn't work. They obviously had something too strong to walk away from. Luckily we don't have to wait too much longer for explanations, that I was desperate to hear. I'm pretty sure Sky wanted to know too. ;) It would seem this book is showing just how much the powers that be, want nothing more that to watch Dylan and Sky struggle, Everybody and everything conspiring against them. There is definitely not a dull moment. It was actually quite surprising just how many intense scenes there are in this part. So much going on at all times. Every time I composed myself after sitting with my mouth gaping open, or wiping more leakages from my eyes. I would then be thrown by the seat of my pants straight into another one. It was fantastic, I felt like an emotional mess though. There was some really important scenes in this book that show another side to Jem. I always thought in Summer Sky just how much Jem was a typical, naughty, bad boy. A rock star with the most extreme edge. Yet, I learnt in this book so much more about Jem. It had me feeling so bad for him, like I wanted to give him a huge hug and lock him away for a while till he sorted himself out. (Not at all freaky, I know) It's made me so excited to read his story. I want to know more about the tormented guitarist, although he won't take my full attention from Dylan. Nobody does brooding like Dylan, but we learn he has his reasons too. The best part about a story that spans more than one book, is being able to learn so much more about the characters. We learn all about Dylan and Sky. Taking journeys into their past, seeing a side of Dylan we don't expect to see.
I choke back a laugh. "Dylan, were you a....?" "Choirboy, yes" He's frowning but biting back a smile too. He pokes me in the ribs. "Not exactly unusual for a Welsh boy who likes singing, huh?" "No, I guess not. You looked adorable." "Gah!" Dylan rolls his eyes.
It feels sad to come to the end of Dylan and Sky's journey. Yet, I loved every minute of it. From the searching for seashells in the sand, to snuggling on the sofa. Every moment was either, holding my breath - waiting to exhale or cheesy smiling at the perfectness of the moment. It may be the end for Dylan and Sky's story, but it is just the beginning for the rest of the Blue Phoenix boys and I'm stupidly excited! A 5* perfect sequel to a love story that began within a beautiful bubble by the sea.
*****5- Lisa Swallow is BAD for my sanity -Stars***** ~this review may contain minor spoilers~
Why didn't I fight for Sky? I've asked myself the question over and over, and at the heart of why is fear. A fear of resurrecting the past I deny and pulling myself back down. I'm scared of seeing hatred in the eyes of the girl who believed in the person I could be.
~Once again Lisa Swallow has done what she does best, she likes to do a little tap dance on my heart while I jump back and forth between screaming in frustration and bawling my eyes out as I'm simultaneously turned on. Yeah, that's takes skill.~
Four months have passed since Sky's world fell apart. She's not quite sure what to believe about the accusations made against Dylan, but seeing as he has given her no explanation at all, she assumes the worst and tries her very best to move on. Dylan isn't doing much better, he's falling back into old habits to cope with the life he was trying to get away from and his Summer Sky is never far from his mind. Returning home to England brings him too close to Sky to continue avoiding her-he has to see her again, explain things, even though he knows showing her his dark past may push her away forever, she has to know the truth. As they attempt to rebuild the connection they found in Broadbeach, knowing being apart is just not an option, they need to learn to trust in each other and open up while keeping the outside world at bay. That is easier said than done when being thrust back into the Blue Phoenix world has people from all directions trying to keep them apart.
I want to kiss him so much, but I'm scared of letting myself give in to the swirling hormones that will lead me to his bed. I'm already locked back into Dylan's orbit, but there's a huge trust issue in the way. Not the accusations, which I believe aren't true, but the fact he didn't tell me and ran instead. I'm vulnerable and unsure.
There really is nothing calm or simple about these books, if your looking for hearts and rainbows-you will not find it here. While the story does revolve around two people who love each other very much, there is just so much working against them. Insecurities, bad judgment, ghost from the past that will not just go away, drug & alcohol abuse, pissed off band members, and the press spinning ridiculous stories out of nothing. Every time you start to breathe just a little bit, something else blows up in their face making you desperately wish these two could just catch a damn break. But this is why Lisa is so very bad for my sanity, I swear she gets off by driving us insane-however, at least she fixes me up in the end. While I was happy this story didn't end with a gutwrenching cliffhanger like the first book, I was still left with some questions: not everything was wrapped up in a pretty little bow which just makes me all the more anxious to get my greedy little hands on the next book in the series. One thing is for sure, this book proved to me yet again why Lisa Swallow has permanently landed herself on my 'One-Click Addiction' list and I don't see her going anywhere any time soon. But I'm totally okay with that ;)
He taught me that love isn't something you find in the places you look hardest, but love is something that finds you. A part of Dylan lives in the center of who I am-in my body, heart and soul. He is all my todays and every tomorrow, forever.
This is the second book in the Blue Phoenix series. It begins were the last one left us, with the future of Sky and Dylan looking non-existent. They are both suffering in their own worlds, but not knowing how to reconnect. I love the characters in these books. Sky is the epitome of the small town, down to earth girl that has not had the easiest go at life, especially with her recent interactions with Dylan and the band Blue Phoenix. In just a matter of weeks her quiet, boring life was turned upside down and now she just doesn’t know how to move forward in a life without her ‘Dylan’. Dylan is in a pretty bad place at the beginning of this book. After Sky left, Dylan left on tour in the states with his band in an effort to get away from everything that reminded him of his ‘Summer Sky’. The problem is you can’t run away from true love and alcohol and drugs can only numb you for so long. This book not only brings us closer to Sky and Dylan and their lives and struggles but also to the Blue Phoenix band. While on tour the band has its issues that cause them all to go on their separate ways for the holiday break. The events that transpire from their holidays are enough to keep their manager busy for quite awhile. I absolutely LOVE this series and cannot wait until the next installment is released. There are many things throughout the book that Dylan and Sky say that are sometimes funny and sad, and sometimes filled with so much love and understanding you can hardly stand it. In this story Sky relates their story to fate and this quote is just too great not to share: “Some say fate is written in the stars, and that we’re all made of pieces of the universe. It that’s true, what I have with Dylan makes sense. Our stars exploded long ago, the debris scattering across time. When we met the pieces pulled together, tiny fragments missing from our hearts and souls found their place. This has to be how the idea of soul mates exists, reconnecting pieces settling into each other and taking on the new world together. “ Thank you Lisa Swallow for another amazingly written book, I can’t wait to see what is in store for Sky and Dylan and the members of Blue Phoenix.
Falling Sky is book #2 in the Blue Phoenix Series.
I really enjoyed Summer Sky book #1 in this series, I loved how innocent and childlike Sky and Dylan’s relationship was in the start.
Falling Sky is definitely a much more mature sequel. The story is darker and much more jaded and weary than the first book.
I still really like both Sky and Dylan, which lets be honest is amazing because Dylan is an idiot!!!
I feel incredibly sorry for Sky she spends months doubting both Dylan and herself all because he isn’t mature enough to accept responsibility for his mistakes and move on with his life.
At times it feels like Sky has almost taken on a parental role for Dylan, she has to go into mean mommy mode to get him to behave like an adult.
But what I enjoyed about this book is that with the more adult undertones of this story came a depth of emotion and sincerity that I didn’t feel in the first story.
Summer Sky is all about Sky and Dylan falling in love but this book shows that true, honest love is enduring and infallible. Yes it may be tested but if it is a genuine and sincere love then it will stand hard and fast against any obstacle.
In this book Dylan and Sky are pulling along with the tide of crazy that is involved with being a rock star. As far as I can see the person at the rudder steering them all towards crazytown is Steve aka the evil one!!
He is manipulative and sly and he really gets my back up!! I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. It amazes me that it takes till right at the end for the band to realize that Steve treats them like an entity not four people with lives and emotions at risk.
Now I enjoyed the connection that Sky and Dylan had in the first book, but for me I prefer the tentative Love they express for each other in this one. As a reader I felt the chemistry but I also felt how fragile and delicate it was and how easily it could break.
I really enjoyed this conclusion to Sky and Dylan’s story but I’m really looking forward to Liam, Bryn and Jem's books. Does anyone else think that possibly Bryn may be gay???
I got 42% into this book and couldn't take it anymore.
The main problem between the two main characters, I don't think, warranted the amount of doubt and apprehensiveness to continue the relationship.
Honestly, why does it matter about something Dylan did 3 years ago? THREE. On top of that, he had issues during that time. Drugs, alcohol and an ego bigger that all of England and wha-la. Instant bad-decision-maker.
Dylan had already let Sky know that he was a different person back then and she still had issues.
Maybe I'm just an un-feeling person, but 'forgive and forget'. Lily was a grown ass woman who consented to anything and everything she did so... Put some blame on that girl or something. I struggled to get through the hundred something pages I did manage to get through because it was just... Ridiculous.
I hated Sky. Period. A. She couldn't get over something that happened before he met her and she had no claim on him. B. Hasn't she ever heard about the cliché stuff rock stars do? You walked into that one, sweetie.
Overall, the writing was very English and didn't flow right (although I'm not an expert on English-style writing). I liked Dylan but felt he got shorted on the author's pick for his heroine because although he has problems, Sky would believe anyone over him and once she finally did there was always something that was reigning her back from trusting him.
Sure, the dude runs from his problems and feels ashamed over shit he's done but that happens in 9 out of every 10 books I read. For all the 'down-to-earth', 'natural', 'sweet and innocent' shit they spout off about Sky, she sure as hell doesn't know how to look past his past indiscretions. You're not perfect, sweetheart. Move the hell on.
She doesn't deserve him. Honestly, I CANNOT see (other than the writing, kind of) how everyone is giving this 5 stars. Very few books actually get me really pissed off at one of the main characters but I was fuming over the heroine and her shitty personality. (Books are meant for you to love the characters, right?)
If given the chance, I would reverse time and never have bought into this series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
WOW! Lisa Swallow you have out done yourself with this one. I loved Summer Sky, but OMG have you upped the ante in Falling Sky.
This is not what I was expecting. Here’s how I thought it would play out…. Sky and Dylan cross paths again, sparks immediately reignite (because what they had can’t be snuffed out forever), and after a bit of an adjustment period… boom they’re back together. I was expecting light and sweet again (because in all honesty Summer Sky was a lighter read for me)…….. not this time. Holy cow! Dylan and Sky's story is more intense and gritty this time around. It's filled with passion, revenge, and hope. This turned into a REAL and serious rock star story with all the dirty secrets, public pressure, and baggage to boot.
I loved that this wasn’t predictable. How it all plays out will have you gasping in surprise. Falling Sky was hard to put down – I just couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Dylan's fame is an obstacle to what he wants and who he wants to be. Sky helps him find the Dylan he lost years ago. It’s not an easy path to follow, but the pair is more than willing to travel it together and see where it leads them in the end.
Sky is one of my favorite heroines. She’s strong and certainly not afraid to tell Dylan how it is and put the bad boy rock star in a timeout when he’s being an ass. I think Sky proved to be good for more than just Dylan. Certain things probably wouldn’t have happened had Sky never entered the world of Blue Phoenix. After this, in a weird way, I am sort of attached to Jem. He's so lost - the guy just needs a big hug. And, Liam is definitely wormed his way into my heart. I’d love to see Jem and Liam each get their own stories. They have both captured my interest, and I definitely want to see what happens with them.
And I have to mention the bacon! This book would not have been complete without bacon!
I'm so glad I read this book because whatever complaints I had with Sky in the first book, she totally redeemed herself here. This one started four months after Summer Sky, when Dylan's tour ended. The long months of separation made Sky missed Dylan's persistent attention and constant affection, and made her reassess her own actions as well as her true feelings for him. I loved Sky here, which I couldn't say I felt in the first book.
Dylan's past as a young man with fame & fortune without any concerned adult supervision caught up with him. But despite that revelation, I still loved his character, because he understood what was wrong with his actions in the past and was torn up about it. And he truly loved Sky. Losing her affected him big time. But Sky was there to help him not be dragged down by the man he no longer was. Truthfully, I was surprised with Sky - in a good way. I questioned why the author made Sky's character challenging in the first book, but now I see why.. it made the growth in her character more prominent and distinct. It was brilliant because there was huge appreciation for Sky's maturity in this book. I cheered for her so many times, probably the entire book.
Dylan's character was cohesive since the first book. I felt connected, felt the sincerity of his words and actions. You would feel his pain, the torment, the anguish..you would feel his happiness that you'd want to jump for joy whenever he was happy.
There were still dramas.. Dylan's life was surrounded by it because of his fame. But this book had a lighter feel to it despite those dramas.
This wrapped up the story of Dylan & Sky but I'm hoping to see them in future books.
First off.. this is the second book. That means that there was a book #1. You HAVE to have read it before you read this… otherwise you will have no effing clue what is going. So right. At the end of the first book there is some pretty darn heavy stuff that is revealed. And not discussed. No explanations. As always with cliffhangers..
So book 2 jumps to 4 months later. Neither Dylan nor Sky has spoken to each other and everything has been left up in the air. However Dylan comes home, and it all changes. Explanations are given. Stories are told. Second chances are given. I don’t want to say too much, but I actually liked this book better than book 1. We learnt more about Dylan, about Sky and especially about Jem. There was still angst and steam and everything else that makes rockstar books so swoonworthy, but I loved the normal. Sky made Dylan normal and it showed in their actions. Dylan was a real romantic and I’m looking forward to more. I hear the next one is Jem’s! *happy clap*
Ok storywise? Was it the best story I’ve ever read? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes Was I able to put it down and do other things? Yes I was. But I did finish it in a day in between doing other things. The flow was good, a few grammar problems here and there (I had an Arc so may be fixed now.) A bit dull in moments, but soon picked up again. So well done Lisa on a good story, great characters and a series that will have us waiting for the next.
I anxiously have been awaiting the conclusion of Sky and Dylan’s story. I wondered whether they could mature enough to overcome what would seem insurmountable issues from their pasts. Falling Sky answers those questions. In this book we finally get the answers to ‘did he’, ‘can she forgive’, and ‘how will they’. The characters in this book are so real - so human- that you forget you are reading about fictional people and events. I did laugh, I did cry, and I did my fair share of ranting at the characters and at the challenges that these two had to deal with. There are hosts of supporting characters and subplots; any of which could (fingers crossed) spawn more books.
I don’t like to get or give spoilers; therefore, I will just say- read this book. You will be glad you did. And if you haven’t read Summer Sky, read it first. Both are wonderful, gut wrenching tales that will pull at your heartstrings but make you happy at the end. I would recommend this book to those 18 years and older due to the mature theme of the story. Five stars for Falling Sky
I was provided a copy of this book for an honest but not necessarily favorable review.
I raced through this second installment, eager to know how things would end up for Sky and Dylan. I loved how both of them matured and developed as characters and how their relationship changed from being a sort of 'crutch' to a true partnership.
I still love this author's writing though there were parts of the dialog that felt unnatural. Personally, I believe she missed a couple of plot opportunities, especially with Lily and Sky's break-in. (Partly because I just don't want their story to end.)
The last quarter of the book I was waiting for something climactic to happen but it didn't. It was only at the end that I realized this is the last story centering on Sky and Dylan and I'm pretty heartbroken because I am not ready to say goodbye to them yet.
I've no interest in reading Liam's book. We barely got to hear from him in Book 1 & 2 so I don't feel any connection to him and Honey is just uugghh - a stereotypical gold-digger. I won't be checking out that book, however, I'm really interested to read Jem's story. He was a really interesting character - flawed, troubled and majorly hitting the self-destruct button.
Overall, this was a great read and this is a gem of a series.
After reading the first book I was excited to pick this second book up and get to the happily ever after...well it took way too long to get there in my opinion. This second book was much harder to read. It just seemed like some of the story line was contrived to make another book. I think that the first book could have fit Sky and Dylan’s whole story. Don't get me wrong I love their story just felt like it was overwritten a little. I would have eliminated some of the fluff. The second book was very good in regard to my connection with the two main characters. Their relationship is quite beautiful by the end of it and you have connection with some of the other characters which helps lead to the future books which I will read as well. This is a solid series and the characters are broken in their own ways but you can tell that love is going to be their cure. Although I found this book to be too much the story line is worth read.
There is more heartache for Dylan and Sky...in fact, it's one thing after another! At times, this story started to remind me of the 'Thoughtless Trilogy' in that just as things look like they're going OK for the couple, something else comes along to cause problems!
I did find myself a bit bored at times, I felt the story was dragging but it also spent time setting up the other books for the other band members, which I am interested to read. I liked Dylan and Sky and I like the authors writing style. It was interesting to read about Dylan's life in the band and the consequences of the papparazzi etc. I'm sure most of what went on definitely goes on in real life as well! I started picturing the band as 'One Direction' ha ha!
They get their happy ever after, but no doubt we will continue to read about Dylan and Sky in the other books as their story was not exactly complete. Jem's is the story that intrigues me the most but I shall read the books in order.
Falling Sky Blue Phoenix Series by Lisa Swallow Review 5/4/17 Can’t face another loss and the truth! ? ? !!!! Sky's world turned upside down when she met rock star Dylan Morgan, and exploded when she discovered his hidden past. Four months after Sky learns Dylan's devastating secret, she's trying to piece her life back together. Without an explanation from Dylan, Sky has no choice but to try and forget him. Dragged back into the life he ran from, Dylan continues to spiral downwards as he copes with his fame the only way he knows how. Shattered by the revelation Sky knows his darker past, he forces himself to return to England and explain. Sky and Dylan reconnect, attempting to build on the shaky foundations of their summer. But the outside world continues to conspire against them. Taking place in the epicentre of the Blue Phoenix world, Sky and Dylan's story continues amongst the chaos surrounding the band and its members. This must be read after book one, Summer Sky and Summer Sky.
What did I like? I am not a huge fan of cliffhangers but lucky for me I had all the books before I started so I was able to read right though all of Sky and Dylan’s stories. I was surprised at the turn in this book. I had really enjoyed these two getting to know each other and the fantasy that they were living but now the action is intense and OH MY filled with secrets and dirty laundry along with the pressures of the public and paparazzi that takes the storyline up a notch. The characters are fully developed and really enjoy life as you will find. If curse words offend you then this is not a series you want to read but if you are tuned to real life then go for it.
What will you like? Interesting and complicated people that have lives that none of us average people will be able to understand until you read these books. I know that life for them is hard and they go through so much but as you read the story you will see the turmoil and distress that some of them experience. Living life is complicated enough but to add fame to it makes it unbearable for some. This series gives you a good look at the other side of the pond and the people that make up the rich and famous. I received this from the author for an honest review with no other compensation.
**Please note this book is written in British English and contains British spelling and idiom**
I got hooked in by the cliffhanger, but I will admit it, Falling Sky for me was more of an interesting read than Summer Sky. Maybe because there’s more going on and not just whether Sky and Dylan are going to sleep together. And her insecurities whether she belongs in his crazy rock star world.
Falling sky, again, I’m on the fence between 3 and 4 stars. There are some parts that were more 3 than 4 stars and vice versa. Or maybe, Rock-star romances aren’t my thing and since this is my first time reading that genre, now I know. Mental note, check.
As I digress, the book begins with Sky missing Dylan tremendously. And vice versa. Both of them miss the beach dearly, wishing that they could go back to the beach house. The place where they fell for each other. The place, where the real world couldn’t penetrate their happiness. Their sacred bubble.
Since Dylan was reluctant to explain the cliffhanger from Summer Sky, Sky has no other options but to break up with him. And when I say, cliffhanger, it’s one of those WTF cliffhangers.
Now, what happened in the ending of Summer Sky, Dylan should have explained things to Sky, but he took the coward’s way out and he let her believe the rumors. I don’t understand why. That didn’t make sense to me. Why would anyone, want anyone viewing them in that kind of light? But he runs away, on a band Tour. Sky moves on with a new guy, but her heart isn’t in it. She can’t stop thinking about Dylan, she even stalks him on social media. But because of the rumors, that she believes to be true, she tries her hardest to forget about him, like any sane girl would.
Dylan is on tour and missing Sky, as much as she misses him. However, upon taking a break from the tour for Christmas, Mr. Dylan stoops down to the level of stalking Sky, physically speaking. Not the best move. When I mean like stalking, calling while he’s drunk and showing up at her house at 3am, not cool dude.
You what, I honestly loved Sky’s attitude. She wouldn’t put up with crap, but she was insecure. I think in this installment, she seemed less so. But Sky was a girl who wouldn’t give in. Even despite her strong feelings, and how weak she was around Dylan, she held her ground, and I have to give the girl some *props* for that. Sky refused to let Dylan back in her life until he gave her answers.
Dylan to me, just seemed like a cry baby honestly. He wallowed in the drugs and alcohol and most importantly, the situation with Lilly Parker. And, what gets me really pissed off is that he didn’t explain that situation to Lilly at all. He just moped about. Dylan ran away from Sky, from a problem that he could have fixed and saved them both the heartache but he did the opposite. Like dude, don’t complain then.
And, yes, I know, the man has problems. His whole Rock star life style that is taking a toll on his body, mentally, physically and emotionally, I get it but come on. He let the one good thing in his life go, because he was too chicken to man up, and tell her the truth. Sky it seemed, at the end of the day was his relief from his crazy rock star world. He needed her like she was the air he breathed. And I mean that literally, it was scary. Without her, he couldn’t manage life at all, but with Sky around he could live. For Dylan, that kind of love is intense, and honestly, I don’t know if it’s healthy. But whatever.
Lilly Parker, and that situation, aggravated me. I just wanted it to be over. After everything came out and secrets were laid bare, I don’t understand why the characters focused so much on it. Dylan didn’t do what Sky had thought. Huge sigh of relief. Now, hug and move on. I don’t know why Sky needed an in-depth explanation to his motive, for the whole situation. Like who cares. Dylam F-ups, he understands his mistake and let’s move on now. Men do what Dylan has done many times over, and it won’t stop. Its life. Find the good guys. But if Dylan had let his mistake go, that would have been the end of the book, but nope, Dylan takes the situation to heart for three years. And once again, I don’t get why.
Like, okay, Dylan slept with said girl, and in order to get there, Dylan manipulated her to get back at his friend, okay… bad boy, slap on the wrist. Don’t do it again. But its nothing to stress over, for three frick’n years. And break up your relationship in the process over that.
Aside from all that, I did genuinely enjoy watching Sky and Dylan come back together. I loved seeing their love blossom into something beautiful and utterly unbreakable. Even though it was frustrating for me, to see them overcome everything they had to get through, just to get to that happy place was amazing.
I loved how the author made sex, not seem like ‘sex’ if you get what I mean. Sex for Sky and Dylan was more than that. Making love, with the mind, body and soul. They did it with every fibre in their body. Every touch, kiss and caress was more meaningful than just random makeup, awkward sex.
For me, that part of their relationship I loved very much. It was refreshing to read about that kind of love and have the words reach across my tablet and touch my heart.
Sky and Dylan really did compliment each other. They helped to build each other up, not drag each other down, despite all the drama. It was nice to see Sky’s walls falling down, since she had so many of them built, high and could withstand almost anything. A few of those layers, Dylan helped to build to reinforce their strength, when he was running away from life. From her, etc.
I was really looking forward to this book after the way the last one ended, you do need to read the first one before this one or you'll be confused. I was not disappointed, Lisa Swallow has a way of taking hold of all of my emotions and leaving me a jumbled mess (in the best way) while making me feel everything the characters are. I loved seeing Dylan and Sky grow as people and a couple as well as getting a glimpse at the struggles of the whole band. I most enjoyed getting a closer glimpse of Jem, it was nice to get a peek at the man behind the facade and made me see him completely differently. I'm really looking forward to reading about the rest of the band.
Falling Sky is the sequel to Summer Sky (Blue Phoenix Book 2). In Falling Sky, we continue Dylan and Sky's story, and find them both working through the fall-out of Lily's revelation and Sky finding out Dylans darkest secret. I love intrigue and was hoping that there would be more to the break-in at Sky's than basically a break-in, I was thinking Lily, stalker and all sorts, NO! I kep hoping for something mental to happen halfway through, but it didn't they worked with each other to work out the demons and it held my attention to the end.
It’s a while since I read the first book but I enjoyed the story of Sky and Dylan enough to buy the next in the series. I wasn’t as hooked this time as I wasn’t convinced enough happened to justify another whole book. I also got a bit irritated by how often they use each other’s names when there’s nobody else in the room. But I’m clearly in the minority. It’s well written and will appeal to anyone who likes to read about misunderstood rock-stars being saved by ordinary girls.
Falling Sky by Lisa Swallow Just when I thought there could not possibly be any more twists, this story ramped up a bit more. I had gotten enough of Sky and Dylan in the previous two books, but I sure wanted to see how the story ended. And I am not disappointed, not even a little. Some of the peripheral story lines are intriguing also. This has bee a well done series with a terrific HEA.
