Couldn’t even finish this slop. Ava Gold being an unrealistic Mary Sue was bad enough, but I deleted the bundle off my Kindle app when they switched the name of the prime suspect in the same conversation. Didn’t even bother with The Perfect Wife. Probably more garbage.

I really love these Blake Pierce Bundles where there are two back-to-back, first in series novels. Apparently, Blake Pierce is a catchall publishing house name for a group of writers who have over a dozen series going on simultaneously, in the vein of Kenneth Robeson for Doc Savage. Although the writers are different folks, they have a very similar writing styles that highlight suspense as a feature attraction with a female lead protagonist, and serial killers as the foil / villains.
City of Prey revolves around a 1920s period piece. Ava Gold, the widow of a New York City detective, takes up her husband's former boss on his offer to help her. She tells him that she wants to become an NYPD detective, and he laughs, but when she begins to do some hard core investigation she forces him to either suspend her or make her part of the solution.
The Perfect Wife is more like a Stepford Wives vibe. Jessie Hunt, is attending school to be an FBI profiler while her husband becomes distant. Is it possible that he is becoming so entangled with work and the boat culture that pervades the neighborhood that they have moved into, that he is beginning to envision a life where he no longer wants to be married?
These thrillers are filled with page-after-page of suspense, pulse-pounding action, and characters that are interesting. The two for the price of one is perfect, especially when the two books are free. Check these out, and then tell me if I was wrong.
