FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is investigating an ecoterrorist organization in the Alaskan wilderness when her partner is taken captive and murdered before her very eyes. The only person who can identify the key players, Lynda gets assigned to take part in a joint operation in Istanbul to take the organization down.
As a woman in a Muslim country, she'll find it much easier to move around undetected with a fake husband. Unfortunately for her, the man assigned to play the role is none other than US Army weapons specialist Bill Sanders--the man who crushed her heart into a million pieces back in college.
With a cargo bay's worth of hurt and baggage between them, these two consummate professionals must play their parts perfectly if they hope to stop those responsible for bombing oil pipelines, killing innocent civilians, and threatening to destabilize the oil markets. But love long buried has a way of resurfacing at the most inopportune times--and protecting Lynda has become Bill's primary focus.

Riveting from the very beginning, this book picks where the last one ends with the wedding of Cynthia and Rick. This book launches into a brand new adventure that works as a stand alone, as Bill and Lynda go deep into foreign territory to root out terrorists, posing as husband and wife despite their history together.
A fantastic read, that pulled me in and I didn't want to put it down. Excellent tension, pacing, filled with action and laced with danger. I also liked how Bill showed that he had truly changed from the man that he was back in college, to a man of faith, action, and purpose.
Great character development and relationship building throughout, I liked how they had to rebuild trust between them, as well as how Lynda came to see Bill for the man he became rather than who he was.
Overall, a book that was impossible to put down, with characters that I became attached to and could cheer for all the way through. This book definitely cemented Ms. Bridgeman as one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Characters: Bill and Lynda were both well-developed, sympathetic characters. Their shared backstory added depth to the book. I enjoyed Bill's friendship with his teammates, and his Southern sayings added good humor.
Language: Clean.
Plot: Suspenseful moments, high stakes, and good conversations betweeen characters kept me reading right along.
Romance: Clean. Just kissing.
Theme: Word of Honor contained themes of second chances, love, and family. Both Lynda and Bill were believers.
Writing: Hallee Bridgeman's clear, descriptive style worked great for this novel. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in this series.
Overall: Word of Honor was an entertaining read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.
I inhaled this novel. While I enjoyed the first book, this one was a more traditional romantic suspense with the action intense for the first 85% of the book. Filled with international intrigue, an alphabet soup of US agencies, and characters I enjoyed in the first book, this one is a race from beginning to end and highly enjoyable read.
4.5 stars "What was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait? More importantly, what was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait wearing a hijab while consulting with his Special Forces A-Team commander?"
Well . . . it was like this. "My partner and I were serving a warrant (in Alaska). Until that moment, we thought they were the peaceful types . . . We had no idea what they had planned." It seemed that F. B.I. Special Agent Lynda Culter was the only eyewitness to the brutal murder of a fellow agent by international terrorists posing as environmentalists. Or working with them . . . thus the trip to Kuwait, and to the mosque where all of the email messages prompting a series of global pipeline explosions had originated.
Army weapons specialist Bill Haynes had done a double-take. His first love, in all honesty, his only love . . . after ten years of silence, if Lynda didn't hate him then, she was going to hate him now. Their mission? " . . . to live in a hotel room and pretend to be civil and married in a way that would fool anyone who decided to take a closer look".
Richly layered. An apt description of a book that travels around the world with its readers, operating with military precision when necessary, while tenderly exploring the most delicate matters of the heart . . and soul . . . for this is most certainly an inspirational story . . in the best kind of way; warriors seeking to be that "good and faithful servant", striving to hear "well done" from the One who matters most. And romantic? Well . . . perhaps you would like to decide for yourself.
"His soul longed to be with her. No matter what he told himself or all the different ways he tried to convince himself otherwise, he believed God meant for her to be the better part of him. She always had been."
I received a copy of this book from Baker Publishing Company through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
I'm broken hearted... This series did not turn out at all like I hoped.
I did not finish either the first book, Honor Bound, or the second book, Word of Honor... There are just too many inconsistencies, a lack of depth to the characters, slow pacing, repetitiveness, and I just did not find the books worth finishing when I could not get past the first 30% of either book. I’m highly disappointed as I had great hopes for this series… I am not likely to read this author’s work again.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary ebook or physical copy of this book which I received from the author and/or publisher or blog tour coordinator All views expressed are only my honest opinion and are in no way influenced by others views or wishes.
Word of Honor is book two in the Love and Honor series. I believe it could still be enjoyed even if you haven’t read the first book or the prequel novella in the series. Having read book one, I was thrilled to get to reconnect with the team, and to have Bill Sanders as the main hero for this story.
The novel starts off with a tragic event, leading to the loss of Lynda’s partner up in Alaska. The violence in the beginning of the story and subsequent bombings across the world help to show what a dangerous group this is that they are chasing.
Once again, I really enjoyed feeling like I was part of the investigation and of the joint operation that Lynda and Bill were part of. This was a second chance at love story for these characters, as well, and their forced proximity as they worked as a married couple provided excellent tension. It was great to see them begin to work through things and for Lynda to work at forgiving Bill.
There were several strategic twists in this novel, helping to keep me on my toes as I read it. While this book did not have quite as much action as book one, I enjoyed the undercover work and the interrogation scenes a lot. I am eagerly looking forward to book three in the series.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is a witness. Her and her partner serve a warrant on domestic ecoterrorists when they're captured and her partner is killed. When the men responsible are linked to an international terrorist group, she's tasked onto the team flying to Turkey in order to identify them. She never expected her college sweetheart, Bill and his spec ops team to be there too. He broke her heart ten years ago, but with the mission ahead they have to put the past behind them.
This instalment in this series is suspenseful, but less action than the first, as the team pieces together the puzzle of what connects the bombings and her partner's death, and which terrorist network is responsible - they can't anticipate their next move if they can't understand their motives.
There are twists and turns to this story that keeps you on your toes. The story also shows how faith helps us through the tough pieces of forgiveness and reconciliation. Really enjoying this series!

'War did not walk onto a battlefield in uniform in a way that allowed him to pick them out as bad guys.'
My second book by this author and I loved it so much. These soldiers here are true heroes and I so very much enjoyed how they operated as a team. Also, add in a female protagonist FBI agent and learning more how they themselves operate made for a wonderful read for my suspense loving self. Bridgeman also writes a very God honoring story and I appreciated the spiritual thread so much. One point in particular I loved very much. Well done!
My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is my own.
This book tugged at my heart immediately because from the first scene Lynda is in danger although she doesn’t really know it. She is an FBI agent in Alaska and she and her partner Jack Haynes are taken hostage by a radical environmental group that has been suspected of destroying pipelines. Throughout the book, Lynda goes from one dangerous situation to another and along the way encounters her former boyfriend from college, Bill. Bill left college suddenly and broke Lynda’s heart. Now he is part of an Alpha team with whom she is working in order to track down forces working internationally to set off bombs and destroy more oil pipelines. Lynda is an analyst while Bill is a warrior as well as an intuitive interrogator. Together, they make an formidable team, but their attraction to each other is undeniable. I enjoyed the chemistry between these two who had difficulty facing the past and looking forward to a new future together. The dialogue between the two was witty, especially Bill’s southern colloquialisms that had me laughing aloud at times. The action was tense as the two of them immersed themselves in the case, dedicated to the task at hand regardless of the threat to their lives. There were a lot of unexpected twists in the book which I thoroughly enjoyed since I did not see them coming. I liked the fast pace and the genuine emotion that was displayed both on and off the job. This is a dynamic page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat, with my pulse racing and sparking the need in me to see the romance between the two protagonists actually work. Brilliantly written with credible characters and intriguing action, this is a book that was both entertaining as well as believable and captivating. Faith plays an active part in Lynda and Bill’s lives and their heartfelt prayers together and separately were profoundly insightful into revealing more about their characters. The research was remarkable and led to a very satisfying and compelling suspense-filled book. I loved this story! I didn’t really like Bill very much, while and after i read the first book in this series. This is his story, and definitely helped me to understand him, and get to appreciate who he is. Bill is one of those very intense people. Shortly after the story begins, he is thrown into close proximity with his ex-girlfriend from college, Lynda. Because Bill is in the military as a special ops officer, and Lynda is an FBI agent, and the only person who can positively identify certain terrorists, they have to work together to locate and take these men down. I loved seeing the progression of their relationship. It was quite interesting to read their backstory, and get to know both of these agents better. This story is accurately classified as romantic suspense. There is alot of action going on. But, the romantic side of it is stronger than in some other books I've read in this same category. I recommend this story for anyone who loves a good action or mystery novel. It might be helpful to read the first book in the series prior to reading this one. Although they can both stand alone easily, it all makes more sense when read in the proper order. I did not think this series could be better but it did with Word of Honor. We first meet Bill (Drumstick) Sanders in Honor Bound. He vehemently opposed Rick in pursuing a friendship, then a relationship, and then marriage with Cynthia. His opposition isn’t explored or explained in Honor Bound, and so I was bound to not like Bill. He is reunited with an old college girlfriend(Linda) that he effectively ghosted for reasons that, now don’t stand the wait of time. Linda is at first really cold and angry towards Bill.
Linda works for the FBI and is working with Bill and his team because of a previous case that killed her partner.
Bill and Linda spend a week in Turkey pretending to be a Muslim couple to ferret out the people involved in killing her partner. In the beginning, Linda is surprised to find out that Bill is a Christian, he wasn’t when she knew him in college, and after she stops reacting to him, and begins to respond and shows him some kindness; they are able to talk. Things begin to change for them relationally. Word of Honor is a tightly written gotcha plot with superb characterization that I don't often see in suspense books. I can't wait for the next one, but not the fact it will be the last one in this excellent series. 4.5 stars.
I really enjoyed getting to know Bill better in this second book of Love and Honor series. I love second chance romance trope so Bill's second chance with Lynda was truly delightful. Bill and Lynda's story is not brimming with action like the first book with Rick and Cynthia but has plenty of suspense as FBI and DoD piece together information to hunt down an ecoterrorist group. The story flows very differently from the first book but still has all the intensity and appeal, with intricately carved-out plot, gasp-worthy twists and turns, rock solid faith turning into action, and heart-fluttery romance. I do recommend you read the series in order to get the full impact. If you're a fan of romantic suspense, you will love this one.
Lynda, with her analytical intelligence and tenacity, is an easy heroine to love. Bill's ugly upbringing comes to light here but he's no less lovable; he's the perfect hero who is protective, loving, patient, God-fearing, and self-sacrificial. His faith is tangible and real as he struggles with his self-worth and acceptance. Catching up with Rick, Cynthia, and the rest of the special forces team was such a treat. Now I need to dive into the next book in the series!
I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
I was immediately hooked by Hallee Bridgeman’s writing style in the previous book in this series (Honor Bound), and couldn’t wait to jump into this next installment. it did not disappoint!
Similar to the first, it’s not one to read at night—topically and because I had to find out what happens next!
I do recommend reading the books in order; it will help fellow readers to know and appreciate Bill’s backstory and character arc even more deeply. His journey fleshed out here was quite satisfying; I wasn’t his number one fan in book 1, but mostly because even then I could tell his story wasn't finished yet. Ha! And here we are.
Probably quite handy for new readers to this series that two books are out, too, so you can binge accordingly! And book 3 is coming soon, too (but have no fear, this does not finish on a cliffhanger).
4/5 stars; absolutely looking forward to the next book!
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
The Publisher's Weekly review says, "The intrigue-filled plot will hook readers, and Christians will appreciate Lynda’s learning to trust God through difficult times. Fans of Susan May Warren will enjoy this fast-paced thriller." After reading the prequel novella Love in any Language and Book #1 Honor Bound, I was so excited to be able to read this book without waiting too long between releases. Normally, you have to wait 6 months or a year between releases, so it was a treat to be able to read one each month and Book #3 releases next month. Such a treat! First of all, just as with the previous books, the characters in this book feel like real people. Bridgeman has a way of making you feel like you know them in real life. Like you grew up with them or went to Sunday school with them. You almost want to call them on the phone to catch up or look them up on social media to see what they are up to these days. Secondly, unlike the previous two books, it's more of a traditional suspense novel where the action is sustained throughout. Honor Bound was more of an nontraditional suspense novel with immediate and constant danger faced by the main characters, either from bad guy bullets or the often hazardous rocky shoals of love. It is also not totally focused on a military mission like the prequel novella Love in Any Language. Word of Honor is a thriller. However, instead of constant immediate danger to the main characters, it's more of an international whodunit suspense novel and the breadcrumbs, red herrings, and twists (especially one BIG twist) will throw you completely for a loop. The mystery is layered and nuanced and utterly believable. It was great to catch up with the characters from the previous books, especially Jorge and Emma from the prequel novella. Special Agent Lynda Culter is my new favorite heroine. She is tough, down to earth, and willing to do what it takes to get the mission accomplished. I loved the way Bridgeman showed how Lynda gathered the chains of evidence and connected the clues in an analog way and juxtaposed that against the IT heavy "ops" center. I completely related to her human desires and the shame of her failures but I also completely related to her moxy in not letting those failures slow her down. Bill "Drumstick" Sanders comes off as an unapproachable Alpha Male but you somehow know there is way more substance to him. He deflects anything that makes him uncomfortable with either irony or humor and some of his southern colloquialisms are just plain funny. My favorite was "as common as a bump on a pickle." It was rewarding to see the natural sequence he followed after being nearly mortally wounded in Honor Bound but even more rewarding watching him grow from the "lone wolf" to a man who realizes that he is incomplete without the love of his life. I won't do major spoilers but just when you think you have the motivations behind the Green War bombings figured out, trust me, you don't. And then you don't again. And then you don't yet again. The way Bridgeman crafted the layers of this mystery is truly one of the best reads I have had for a long, long time. [Spoilers] CONS: There is a lot of often surprising violence. A man is tortured, knee-capped, shot, and set on fire in the very first chapter. People are killed in explosions and airplane crashes. There are conversations about all kinds of bad things that could--or have happened. There is a description of a gruesome scar and the surgical procedures that made the scar. PROS: These cons are offset by courage, heroism, honor, respect, grace, mercy -- and ROMANCE. Post script: Prisoners are interrogated in a realistic way which can be disturbing. Two prisoners are turned over to a government which will certainly publicly execute them. At one point, two main characters evade police which is debatable as to whether that is right or wrong. Conclusion: Solid five stars. I would give it 10 if that were possible. My favorite in the series so far. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I am also excited to try some of the recipes in the back of the book.
We met Bill “Drumstick” Sanders in the first book, and I liked him, despite his reservations about the hero and the heroine getting their happy ending. In fact, he was a bit rude to his best friend, basically telling him that marriage and the military is not a good mix and having a wife causes a man to lose his focus. So I was pleased that this second book was about Bill and eager to see him eat those words.
Fittingly, the heroine is a woman whose heart he smashed into a thousand pieces ten years ago, after a year long relationship. Now she’s an FBI agent, whose partner was killed in a mission gone wrong. She’s the only eyewitness to the man heading up an ecoterrorist organization, and when Bill’s team is brought in to help with the investigation, she finds herself in Kuwait, working undercover – masquerading as husband and wife with Bill.
There’s not as much actual action as in the first book, but again we get a great character study. When it comes to relationships, family or romantic, Bill has a lot of baggage to unpack. And even though it’s been ten years, Lynda still harbors a lot of anger over how Bill suddenly broke off their relationship, still not knowing why. The slower pace of this book provides more opportunity for Bill and Lynda to get to know each other again. Bill truly regrets how he handled things with Lynda when they were younger, and he’s grown a lot as a person since those days, but the issues are still in his head. If you read the first book, you already know that Bill and his team leader, Rick, have a close brotherly friendship, and I loved the few scenes between them here, as Rick gently supports and nudges Bill to some realizations about his life and what he wants. For Lynda, it’s about overcoming her hurt feelings and seeing Bill for the man he is today. The author did a wonderful job bringing these two together and having them slowly work through their painful past.
Oh, and of course there’s the mission! While I said there isn’t as much action as the first book, there is still enough to keep the story moving at a decent pace. Lynda is very analytical, and watching her create her boards and piece together the events and the players was fascinating.
And then, when they are back in the US, the danger suddenly ramps up to a shocking incident that took me completely by surprise.
My only niggling complaint is that the characters point at each other a lot. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.
*I received a free copy of this book via the publisher and have voluntarily reviewed it*
FBI agent, Lynda Culter is just the woman needed to help uncover the plots of an ecoterrorist group and the Russian Mob. She has grit, perseverance, and a brilliant mind that help her to see connections where others cannot. It was interesting to see her map out the events the old fashioned way with paper instead of using a computer.
The team of special agents that Bill and Lynda are a part of were really fun to get to know. Their camaraderie and expertise made them the perfect team to destroy the plans of the criminals. Lynda is all business and is good at analytics while Bill is a man of action and has a great sense of humor too. He has funny sayings such as that’s as normal as bumps on a pickle.
There was an extra bonus at the end of the books. Discussion questions for a book club as well as some Turkish recipes to try. The entrees look tasty and I am looking forward to making the falafel.
Danger, mixed with faith, create a terrific story that was enjoyable to read. I recommend this book if you enjoy books by similar authors such as Lynette Eason or Elizabeth Goddard.
I received a copy of this book from Revell through NetGalley. I was not expected to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is another spellbinding installment in the Love and Honor series. FBI Special Agent Lynda Cutler is still recovering from a devastating personal loss when she is brought in to work on a joint task force in Instanbul. She has been investigating an eco-terrorist organization in Alaska, and the clues have brought them to Turkey. As a female in a Muslim country, she will be able to investigate better and go more places if she is "married" and accompanied by a man. The only problem for her is when she is assigned to her undercover husband, it is the man who broke her heart in college, Bill Sanders, a U.S. Army weapons specialist. This makes the situation a little uncomfortable for both of them, but they are both professionals with a job to do, so they put their personal differences aside. I love this series because I love this group of elite soldiers that Bill is a part of. Their camaraderie with one another and love for one another as people, and as a team bleeds through the pages. You can just feel it in the story. Their nicknames for each man in the unit will make you laugh out loud. For example, Bill Sanders is know as Drumstick! The international intrigue and covert missions make this a very interesting book to read. There are several twists that will leave your mouth agape. The inspirational message is God honoring and reverent. the characters are great as usual. You do not have to read these books in order, but I do believe it will help clarify their backgrounds if you read them in order (this is book #2). I highly recommend that you read them all! This is a wonderful thriller/mystery, but it is also a story of forgiveness and leaving the past behind so you can move forward.
This book was sooooo good!! I HAD to keep reading to find out what would happen next!! Bill Sanders set on not getting serious with any woman while he's in the Army. He's sure two of his friends have made big mistakes marrying while serving in the military. He was in love once, and knows how much it can hurt. When he suddenly finds himself working with his ex-girl friend from college, he has to deal with his revived feelings for her, and starts to question everything he's told himself about love. When he realizes that Lynda still has feelings for him, too, Bill starts praying even more about what his next steps in life are. When her life is threatened, will Bill be able to save her?? Will he be able to step up and be the man that Lynda would love for him to be? I LOVE that Bill and Lynda both have deep, abiding faith in God, and keep turning to Him in prayer, and to His word. I love that Bill and Rick pray for each other all the time, too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman was another fabulous read. It has compelling characters and a story that draws you in from the first chapter. Hallee is now one of my go – to authors. She writes some of the absolute best military romantic suspense. I lose myself in her stories.
We met Bill (Drumstick) Sanders in book one with Rick (Daddy). In this story he is working with his college sweetheart, Lydia Cutler who is now an FBI special agent. She is the only witness to three terrorists who are blowing up oil pipelines. The book is full of action and twists and turns to keep you turning the pages at break neck speeds.
I highly recommend this series. Hallee writes military stories with so many authentic details that I adore these books. And will reread them. I also enjoy how the characters talk through being in a relationship when they are active duty and the challenges that brings. I was thrilled that Rick and the team played a significant part in this book too.
Sexual content - kissing Violence - nothing that disturbed me, they are held hostage and threatened with torture
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman had an interesting concept and suspense right from the opening chapter. Readers will be delighted to see the innerworkings and the laying of the plans and how they were going to intercorporate these elements into their plan. The weapons used were interesting to follow also. While the characters were uncover, they were trying to capture the bad guys, but the plot featured a lot of planning and moving around behind the scenes. Not many bullets flying or running from their lives. They visited a mosque three times a day for prayer, noticed the participates, and then returned nicely to their hotel rooms. If the characters are in a foreign country, eventually, something should give them away. Enough to have them on a run as they try to sabotage and capture the villains. On the other hand, the romance is between a pair of people who were in a relationship ten years ago, and now must be in a relationship again. Questions unanswered and emotions rekindled. Overall, Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman was too slow for a romantic suspense for my taste. I need more action.
I received a complimentary copy of Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Word of Honor is the second book in the Love and Honor series and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I absolutely loved the first book with all the action and romantic suspense.
This book features Bill "Drumstick" Sanders and Lynda Cutler. Lynda is an agent with the FBI and gets assigned to take down an ecoterrorist group. Bill gets assigned with her to the middle east as her fake husband. They have a history together. So, there is a bit of angst in the air. While there is a good bit of action and suspense, I felt it wasn't as much of a page turner as the first one. But only by a little. It was well worth the read and I enjoyed it very much. I am excited there is a third installment and I can't wait for it. 4.5 stars
This is a great read! I would suggest reading Honor Bound first as there are a lot of characters to keep track of. This tale is woven with mystery and intrigue. Can US top law enforcement and military stop the attacks on gas lines and save lives? Can they find the top guy? Travel to Alaska, Kuwait, Turkey, and DC to follow the action. Add to the drama, two old college ex-friends who must do their assignment posing as husband and wife.
That...was actually really good! I made what I thought was an unfortunate decision when I requested to review this one before I'd even read the first book, since I ended up disliking that one. But, this one did not disappoint! (not that I had high expectations after the first *cough*)
I loved Bill. His personality was fantastic and funny and I really appreciated his character struggles. The arc seemed a bit stiff, but overall, Bill's character was much deeper than Rick's in book 1 (though I really love Rick and wish that we could have another story about him) (but it was really fun to see him in this book too). Lynda, as well, was an epic character. I loved the fact that while she was a kick-butt female agent, she understood her limits and didn't pretend to be indestructible. Put the two characters together and you've got a dynamic duo that's sure to be a hit!
The romance honestly didn't make me cringe (at least, not too much, haha), even though it was enemies to lovers...I think it was the fact that though both parties involved were forced into a situation that neither wanted to be in, they did their jobs and didn't let their attitudes get in the way of the mission. Of course they didn't get along, and of course there were a few times that I wanted to throttle them, but I could see where they were both coming from, and I didn't blame them, and that made all the difference in the world. Kudos to you, Ms. Bridgeman!
The suspense lasted through almost the entire book, and I think that's what made me enjoy it so much; it was much more of a military-suspense-with-a-romantic-subplot than its predecessor. The twists and turns (and trying to keep all the details straight in my pea brain) kept me reading, and overall I just really enjoyed it.
The faith aspect seemed kinda preachy (especially with about 95% of the characters being Christians, and the other 5% being the villains), but it definitely seemed more real to the characters than in the first book; Bill and Lynda both were putting effort into their faith 24/7, and I loved that it wasn't the cliché I-don't-spend-as-much-time-with-God-as-I-should-but-that's-going-to-change-now Christianity.
Overall, this one was great, and I'm seriously regretting my decision to not request the third book for next month!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for promotional purposes. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Lynda and Bill have a history, a bad one, but neither have seen each other for ten years. Today, both of them are in the military. They have an assignment that will require them to pretend to be married, while doing undercover work. An environmental group has become increasingly violent. Their statements about their cause have resulted in lots of damage and people dying. Hoping to catch the ones behind it, the American military has sent them to the Middle East.
Lynda and Bill are shocked to see each other again, and that they have to work together. Can they put aside the emotional baggage from the past, and pull off the deception? When they get the bad guys, can they get enough intel out of them to find the one behind all the violence?
This globe trotting story has clashes with dangerous people, as well as, intense interrogation of the bad guys. Lynda attempts to analyze that information to discover their next movements. Her work is showing that something bigger is going to happen. Stopping terrorism is always the goal, but will they be able to do so this time before the large attack Lynda fears?
Bill's story continues from the last book with more information about him, and introduces Lynda. Bill is struggling with the direction his life should go, and if he should stay in the military. He has lots of pain from the past due to his mother's terrible neglect of him while he grew up. The characters face lots of difficulties, and some turn to God for help navigating through them. This clean, five-star book will be enjoyed by fans of thrillers and action.
Revell Books has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Word of Honor, for the purpose of review.
Usually when I say I have been eagerly waiting for a sequel, it has been 6 months or more. In this case, it has been only a month....but I have still eagerly been waiting. I don't know why these three books are coming out a month apart, but I love the fact that they are.
This sequel did not disappoint. It had a lot of the same characters, at least regarding the Army team, but the plot and locations were totally different. This book was all over the place geographically: Alaska, Kentucky, Alabama, Kuwait, and Turkey.
Bill - Sanders - was the hero of this story, back from the life threating injury in book #1, and the heroine was his college sweetheart he walked away from. The antagonism she had towards him for part of the book made everything all the more interesting.
The plot was well thought out and riveting: attacks on oil pipelines globally. I will admit to being a bit anti-Muslim, but found that angle of the book interesting....the food, practices, dress, etc. In fact, I found myself Googling some foods to find out exactly what they were. Then I got to the end of the book, and the author has recipes for some of them. :)
There is a lot of suspense, bad guys, drama....and yes, romance. But there is also themes of forgiveness, and trusting God. Lynda had to forgive Bill. He had to forgive himself, and come to an understanding that our past does not need to define us, and that we are all equal in God's eyes. This book is not just an awesome story of eco-terrorists and their plot to blow up oil pipelines and wreak other havoc, and the attempts of the good guys to stop them. It is also the story of two souls ripped apart by one man's shame and feelings of unworthiness for the girl he loves...of a decade old romance finally coming to fruition.
This book was truly an amazing read. There was a lot I did not see coming, especially that one thing that has left me puzzled about a certain body...but I will not give away any spoilers.
The story has also given me a bigger appreciation for our military personnel. Not just for the danger they face, but what they leave behind and the personal sacrifices they make of family and comfort.
Word of Honor is only the 4th or so book I have read by this author, but I love her writing style, the characters she creates, and the message and themes of those books. I am definitely counting down the days until the third and final book in this series, which is coming out November 1 of this year.
I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.
This is the first book I have read by this author! Military/suspense/romance is a genre I really love reading and I'm always on the lookout for these kind of books with the romance on the sweeter side. This one happens to be Christian Fiction as well. Just as a note in case you care about that.
This is the second book in this series but I didn't ever feel like I was missing anything. The characters and the story were easy to follow and understand. I liked Lynda a lot. She had moxy and courage and held her chin up even when she wanted to shrink away. She was smart and stood up for herself. I liked it. Bill? I didn't really like him much at first. I thought he treated Lynda poorly for the first half of the book, expecting her to get over the hurts because he wanted her to. He was dismissive. I didn't like that at all. The second half of the book went better with him and I ended in a better place but it was slow getting there.
This is a bit tamer than a lot of other action/suspense novels I've read in this same genre. The action was spread further apart and had a bit of a slower build to it. I liked it though. The story was interesting and well thought out. I will definitely be coming back to this author for another book to read!
This book (and this series!) is on Kindle Unlimited if you have that.
Content: violence, peril, kissing, talk of God and praying.
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Word of Honor, by Hallee Bridgeman, is the second book in the Love & Honor series. This story follows where the previous lets off, so it is best to read them in order. The author does give background information, especially for the men’s nicknames. This is a well written, fast paced military story that shows the dedication the members of the Special Forces A-Team have, and the closeness of their relationship to each other. In this story FBI agent Lynda Cutler is called into help due to her contact with Green War in the recent past. What she does not expect is that she will be working closely with ex-boyfriend Bill Sanders. For the operation to be a success they both have to put their feelings about what happened between them aside.
This is a great story. It got my attention at the start and kept it to the end. I appreciate the parts of Bill’s reason for what he has done in the past and how it affected Lynda. I enjoy the information in the story about how much attention has to be paid to their clothing to fit in and not draw unnecessary attention. I especially appreciate how Bill goes to visit his mother and then Lynda’s father asking for forgiveness and witnessing.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book through the Revell Reads Bloggers Program, this is my honest review.
Loved it! I am addicted to this series! Word of Honor is another riveting, action-packed story in the Love and Honor series. I could not put it down.
"What was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait? More importantly, what was Lynda Culter doing in Kuwait wearing a hijab while consulting with his Special Forces A-Team commander? We last saw Sergeant Bill Saunders "Drumstick" in Honor Bound. He was recovering from a bullet to the chest. He is now recovered and back with his team on a new mission in Kuwait, only to find his college girlfriend on a joint assignment with his team. He broke up with her unkindly as a 19 year old college student not wanting her to know about his broken childhood. He has regrets. Now they have to pretend to be a married couple for this job. What could go wrong?
I love how both Lynda and "Drumstick" now have a relationship with God and pray often for direction in their personal lives and in their jobs. Lynda Culter is an FBI agent there to ID the Ecoterrorist she was hurt by, and her partner was brutally murdered by in Alaska as a part of a larger investigation. She excels at gathering information and analyzing. "Fear filled her mouth with a bad taste. what was she doing here? She didn't belong in the field, surrounded by covert operatives. She belonged in a cubicle with her notes and diagrams."
I got such a kick out of Bill's funny Southern expressions, and nicknames for others peppered throughout the story. "Let's go, Box of Underwear". "Clearly, he used humor to cope with stressful situations."
I cannot wait for the next book Honor's Refuge!
I highly recommend Word of Honor by Hallee Bridgeman for lovers of excellent romantic suspense.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
