Clockwork Neverland

Peter Pan, captain of the infamous floating city, Neverland, is as devilishly handsome as he is naughty. Beloved by his people, he lives a free, and unencumbered life, only bogged down by the weight of his duties to the city, and the things he has to do to protect it.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore when Gwen Darling stumbles off the latest ship to come into port. Running from her past, Gwen seeks sanctuary and a mentor. She has secrets, and is full of surprises, but as their connection grows, what neither of them realizes is that, in a world where magic and clockwork meet, truly anything can happen.

This story is a dark romance with threads of Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz and magic of a whole new kind. Beware, heavy sexual content, rough play, and depictions and discussions of violence.

I couldn't resist trying a steampunk inspired Peter Pan retelling! CLOCKWORK NEVERLAND was really enjoyable and the chemistry between Peter and Gwen/Wendy jumped off the page. All the Peter Pan allusions and references were a lot of fun to come across and the world that Chelsea Callahan has created was really interesting to read about.

I loved that Neverland was a giant grouping of floating ships and I hope we get to see lots more of it in the next book. Throw in some magic, lots of mechanical devices, a few killer mermaids, and an evil witch and this was a great high seas adventure. I will note that there were a lot of editing/spelling errors, too many to just ignore, and it started to affect my enjoyment of the story. There were also a few plot lines that were introduced and then left hanging but maybe those will be answered in book 2.

Content Warning: parental abuse; brief scene of Peter interrupting a man raping a young woman before Peter kills the man; Peter uses his magic once to lower Gwen's inhibitions (she's aware of it and doesn't seem to mind)

She shivered and turned to smile up at him. "But what if I'm not always good?"

"Oh, I have no doubt you could be bad if you wanted to Wendy. I just hope I'm there when you do."

This imaginative retelling breathes new life into the Peter Pan legend with a darker, more mature twist. Set in the fascinating floating city of Neverland, the story blends fantasy, romance, and steampunk-inspired elements into a richly immersive world where magic and clockwork coexist. Peter Pan is reimagined as a charismatic yet burdened leader, while Gwen Darling is a strong, intriguing heroine whose mysterious past adds depth and suspense to the narrative.

Can’t resist a Peter Pan retelling 😏

This one has a very unique twist in that it’s a retelling mixed with Steam Punk.

Gwen Darling is running from something (or someone) and shows up to Neverland. Where she meets it’s Captain. Peter Pan. He decides to call her his Wendy. The chemistry is immediate and they can’t resist the pull to each other. The only thing that could upend this new pair would be secrets. While Pan has a few…Gwen…ahem…Wendy has a massive one. A twist I didn’t see coming.

This was such a fun and interesting spin.

Fantastic retelling

Loved this Steampunk meets dark fantasy retelling. Grab a little magic, sprinkle in a little spice and tinker it all together to get an idea of the vibes this book gives off. Can't wait for book 2!

very creative retelling

Romantic, erotic and thrilling retelling of the Peter Pan story. The characters are unpredictable. Looking forward to the sequel to find out what happens to Neverland.

Read this on the plane today and absolutely loved every second of it. I’m a sucker for Peter Pan stories - the spicer the better, and this was so perfect.

Really cool steampunk world and spin on Peter Pan, but the story and writing itself felt more like fanfic.
