After rescuing me from the Andersons, my men are dreaming of a bloody revenge. Me? All I want is to be left alone long enough to work through finals and enjoy my free time with the boys who love me so much.
But we can't find peace until the Andersons are gone. I have the knowledge I need to fight back, but the enemy still has an ace in the hole. He's a demon named Ash, extremely powerful and one of the first people I met when I moved into town.
Not like I knew he was a demon then, but I didn't recognize the rest of my pack for what they were, either.
Worse, outsiders are starting to take interest in the conflict between us and the Andersons. I can't trust them to help us, but the possibility of what they'd do with our secrets sends shivers down my spine. I don't want to have to be rescued again.
Together we have a chance at victory. Apart...we’re doomed.
This is the final book in the Mountain Magic Trilogy!
This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ readers only! It contains language and sexual situations. This is a medium burn reverse harem where the girl gets all the guys. Why Choose? Harem members added as series progresses. Series will contain some mild M/M scenes.
Dakota has two passions in life: writing and cinnamon tea. Tea so strong she ought to be able to see her future when she drinks it, and the writing? Well she hopes it makes you see stars when you read it. She creates reverse harem romance novels filled with things that go bump in the night. That handsome werewolf walking down the street? The suave vampire you’re just dying to get a taste of? You’ll find them enraptured by charming, smart ladies ready to make those bad boys work for their affection. When not writing, Dakota can be found on the back of a horse out on the trail or tending the animals on her farm.
So I read this entire series based on all of the high reviews. But honestly I don't get it. It gets two stars from me basically because it's been edited. That's it. It's not terribly exciting, not terribly swoon worthy, not terribly sexy, not terribly inventive. It's kind of irritatingly boring actually. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** Firstly and most annoying: why was Sofia even part of the story?? Everyone member of her harem, save one was initially attracted to their group because of and more romantically involved with one of her boyfriends. Which is cool, but any M/M love scenes were glossed over or implied. So it seems as though the author just waned to write a poly all male romance but didn't want or was unable to write the technical parts of gay male sex. This odd conflict was thinly covered by all of them "loving" the female lead the most. So Doc was for lusty shagging off to the side, off page, but reverent love and gentle touches were for Sofia every other weekend and dealing with all of the constant insecurities? WHAT?!?! Secondly there are plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, vampires are the scariest things in the supernatural world, but nothing really happens to support it. We think purple may be bad, but maybe aren't, but it doesn't matter because nothing is every resolved. Her dad is a bigot and haters her half Native boyfriend, even though one of his dad's besties is half Native, but we just forget about it at some point. The list goes on. I want impressed, I won't buy from the author again. If I were to give her some unsolicited advice it would be to just pull up her big girl panties; and write gay romance, there doesn't need to be awkward lady filler. There's a huge market for it, but she might have to get comfortable with writing M/M sex scenes first, which really seemed to be a problem for her.
So these are my notes for the book and the series This was the tamest reverse harem i have ever entered. Most of the scenes were small groups or MF. The MM was very glossed over. Which i think is fine as some people arent into this. I wanted ittt but hey its okay. Her harem keeps growing and changes are always occuring. I think the author or the characters took 3 books to finally be comfortable with eachother and the group dynamic. I think it is a low steam introduction to the world of reverse harem or poly whichever you prefer to label it as. I liked the battle there but for me it was built up to be a HUGE thing and was over way too quickly. I think the series could actually benefit from a final book but that is just me!
3.75-ish⭐️’s - Not gonna lie… the time after the ultimate battle, so to speak, of the three books was non-existant. Frankly, it felt like the author was tired of writing this series and decided to say “Fuck it” and avoided writing a conclusion longer than the equivalent of 10 pages altogether (I’m listening via Audible).
If the book and the series was less than what it was, I’d give this book a less than a 3⭐️ review based on the conclusion alone. It truly ruined the other 900 bajillion hours of work the author did and my hours of listening time that had me raving about the series.
It’s sad that a shitty (or lack of one, really) conclusion put me off so badly. And the fact the editors let it slide?! Shame on them!
I hope lessons are learned with this craptastic non-ending. And it’s not even a non-ending like there’s room for an extra part of the series or a spin-off… it literally fell into a book “meh” abyss to never be found. Sad.
Great ending to a great series. Really enjoyed the different characters and storyline. Book ended with an HEA. Look forward to other books from this author!
Sofia is tired. Can a girl not catch a break?? After not having control over her own body for a couple months, she has to cram like crazy for exams. The demon shared what it paid attention to, but the other knowledge it left behind was much more useful. Powers, spells, all sorts of useful things to use against the people that bound it. It really didn't appreciate being kidnapped across planes and held hostage in an inferior body. But, the last part, before they can finally go against the Andersons, is freeing Ash. Three hundred years he's been a prisoner and weapon. What better way to win than freeing that weapon to turn against his captors?
Spoilers ahead. Well that wrapped up neatly. A little pat, sweet, but decidedly tidy. A lot got dropped by the wayside in the name of snipping loose ends. Allan's feelings for Doc were completely abandoned. Not that we ever got to "see" that relationship change from packmate to lover. Nikolai resonates to Sofia but, probably due to her time being possessed, has bonded more to Doc. And seems to have collected Allan, too. Ash never really gets asked if he wants Sofia, he's like a fledgeling. The pack takes him in, cares for him, but it's more like he cleaves to them because they were his rescuers and were the first kindness. The isolation didn't really help with that. And apparently there was bonding done with the pack while Sofia was possessed that we, again, didn't experience. It would have eased the transition to packmate for readers. The liberation was fairly smooth, and the follow-up battle over fairly soon, too. While the story focuses on Sofia, the emotional focus really seems to be Doc. For the wolves, for Nikolai, for Ash. Sofia seems to just float, only really resonating with Doc and Nikolai using magic. The pack almost seems fractured, ironically more focused on the non wolves, but still calling themselves a pack. The run scenes were cute, but we get so few glimpses of the actual bonding that this pack never really feels cohesive. Accepted, yes. Caring, yes. But all the little branches and spokes connecting them don't feel sturdy. It's a fun read. More a HFN, but a fun read. I'd love to see it fleshed out a bit more. Instead of skimming over time periods, give us those moments to connect with the characters. Tender, sad, happy, all of them. Even the struggles while possessed. Give us the scenes of the guys' sadness while being so close physically, but so far emotionally, from Sofia. Show us the pack forging new relationships within over their shared love and loss. Show us how close Ash got and why he wanted to join them, besides just kindness. It was good, but it could become amazing with just those few scenes here and there. You give us rotating POVs, let us experience it with them. Now, some questions that were never answered: *How did a bite change him in utero, but he can bite others and donate blood without changing them? *Same deal for the wolves, they nibbled some on Sofia, not sure if they broke skin, but I think at least one scene she touched their blood. Still a mage. I think sexy times also involved some scratches. Can they only change someone from wolf form? *We never learn exactly how Ash got captured. Vague summons and binding. How was that skill learned? Other than protecting the family, what use did he serve? And why was he given over the the kid who bungled orders? Especially as they didn't have another, or stronger, demon on hand. Seems a waste of resources. *Why on earth would they give a demon slave a Camero? I'd the kid didn't like it, why not return to dealership and give the slave a Honda or something? *Other than using mages for hosts, what exactly did the magical mafia do with their victims? *Knowing that only his pack was safe, how could Doc tolerate knowing other supes were being snatched? He was powerful enough to intimidate the adult Andersons, even with a demon. *Was Doc ever really a father figure to the boys? Or was he just a protector figure? Because the one makes that relationship really uncomfortable to think about. *When Sofia first has her powers triggered by Doc, she has a connection to the earth. She created the grove. The land and house respond to her. Why, if she could shove power into the earth, could she not draw from it? During battles this would make it a lot easier to recharge. *Differentiating life spans never get resolved. Ash and Doc are practically immortal. How long to mages live? We learn some age differently, but still age. And how long do wolves live? Will Doc's blood change that? *If Doc truly dies, will he become a normal vampire? Are vampires really undead? Or just really long lived? And does only decapitation work for killing a vampire? He seems comfortable around fire. I know I have more questions but I powered through this series and it's now 3am. I'm still processing lol.
I really enjoyed this series. I only have one small criticism, the perspectives. When a characters' name is the title for the chapter, I assume (completely my fault) that the chapter will be a first person account from that characters perspective. It wasn't. Now don't get me wrong, this didn't hurt the amazing story Ms. Brown wrote. However, it was a bit distracting for me initially. I loved Sophia, her guys, and her kick ass roommate Victoria. I'd love to read more of their adventures... And I'd definitely read a spin off about Victoria. All in all a great read. I really did have trouble putting it down. I will definitely seek out more books by Ms. Brown I thoroughly enjoyed her story telling and writing style. Well done Ms. Brown, well done.
Pages: 209 My rating: 3.5 Read other books by this author in the future: yes MC: Sofia, Doc, Ed, Allan SC: Victoria, Ash, Alex, Sam
In the last book there are two big tasks to do: free Ash and get the Anderson Problem solved. And that’s what the group goes after. The last book was steamier than the other books. The story was good too. The Series entertained me and I was unhappy that I could not binge read the series, but life got in the way.
Spoiler Section or Note to myself about the content:
Brilliant end to the series, unless it’s a “for now “???
It would be awesome if there are future books on what has to be the most unusual pack in existence. The potential for it is there. It would be good to see the younger 3 characters mature a bit.
So, book 3 now that Sofia is safe it’s time to try and rescue Ash and take down the Anderson mages. The story starts with bad news and things only get harder from there, it’s action all the way through.
The overall impression I got was that this series leans more towards YA possibly due to Sofia, Ed and Allan’s ages because they’re all attending college/ university at Sunnyglade. (Definitely GLADE and not anything else). Even though it is clearly RH story as well, it’s not like it’s overly explicit. Besides it wouldn’t hurt the younger generations to fully embrace the fact that love is love and that it doesn’t matter who or how that looks regardless of age, gender, skin colour and in this fantasy instance; species as well. There’s a novella out that covers some of the guys’ previous backgrounds that I’m reading next.
what an ending i realy enjoyed this listen, i am still so amazed how 2 people read the same book and there perseption can be so very different i checked this series out before grabbing book 1 i always do but i like to get my own picture and it often pays off this time it sure did, i was worried after reading some reviews but this is a strong RH book with solid world building and acceptable character development. Could it have been better? Yeah sure it could have but how many books realy have no room for improvement! This one could have had another whole book just to give us more group sceans and a better picture of ash's development and integration into his new life, i would have loved some bits about tge posessed time too but thats just stuff that would have added to the books. i realy loved the speaker the books the characters the story and so its 5 stars for me even if its not a masterpiece its still everything a good book should be, a fun escape from reality ;)
I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and everything tied up a bit too easily. It also felt more like a HFN instead of a HEA. How could it be a happily ever after with two immortals in the harem and no discussion of how to resolve the different timeline? There was also never any point in the series that I actually worried everything wouldn't work out perfectly for the characters. Because of that I wasn't all that pulled into the story. It took me a lot longer than usual to finish this series because I just kept putting it down and getting distracted. I did think it was pretty well written though. Bottom line, it's probably not going on my favorites list and I'm not likely to reread the series anytime soon, but I do recommend it for a quick weekend read and I'll probably check out more from this author.
I just finished listening to the story earlier and I'm really torn about this series. One one hand, it clearly intrigued me enough to finish all the books and like them, but some things still really threw me off.
Like Sofia not coming clean about her relationships with all the guys to her parents until (almost) at the end, because it's complicated... Yeah, sure it is, but she just seems really uncomfortable about the whole thing at times. Sometimes she feels really naive as well and keeps going places alone for some reason.
Still, it's a good story with the potential to be great with a bit of tweaking here and there. I enjoyed listening to it and the narrators where great. Smut level for an rh is almost sub zero though, but maybe it's just intended for a little "younger" audience.
All in all, good trilogy.

This whole trilogy just captured my interest and sucked me in. I read literally until 4am even though I had to be up at 7 for 3 days so I could finish these books. Worth it. Certain elements were predictable, but most of the plot had me guessing (mostly incorrectly) at what would happen next. A few editing errors here and there, but those were easy to look past as the story was intoxicating. I like the distinction between species and differences in uses of magic, yet I also appreciate how everything can work together and learning how everything works.
This was a nice RH harem supernatural romance series. They finally added the last love interest, the demon, to the MC harem. The sex scenes in this book were hot and worth the wait. I liked the fact the author didn't just have the characters jump into sex. I also liked that some of them were comfortable with group sex while others were not. I also really enjoyed the fact that the MC parents came around to like the guys and that they helped the MC in the final battle. Overall, it was a charming trilogy. If Dakota decides to make more RH books I'll pick them up.
Reckoning (Mountain Magic Book 3) by Dakota Brown was a strong conclusion to the Mountain Magic series. The characters grew a lot between book one and the end of book 3. I also felt like all the major questions/issues were wrapped up well. It would be fun to see these characters in future works and I’ll make sure to check out any future works from Dakota Brown.
Mountain Magic shows just what happens when imagination is allowed to run free. I read and became a wolf running though the woods feeling the soft moss underfoot whilst hearing small beings scampering , eating and watching me and my pack . The wind touched my body with soft whispers of recognition bringing smells that lingered on my breath.... People this book is unimaginable.
Mostly cute. Liked the relationships between her and the guys. Completely baffled it took so long to determine the other love interest was the bad guy (and she never even asked the guys why they didn't like him, wtf?). Overall, cute trilogy. Probably not worth the time I spent reading it, though. I think I'll pass on this author going forward, not that she's bad, she's just not exemplary and I'm trying to rein in my reading addiction.

Finally I found time to finish this book with no distractions from kids and other projects or other obligations!! I absolutely loved it! It was an excellent wrap up to the series. You got to see how all her relationships developed and closely knitted together. They were a nice solid pack by the end. It was perfect. I was sad to see it end but it couldn’t have ended in a better way. Can’t wait to read more of her books!!
Poly amorous harem, pnr, shifters, mages vampires, magic, hidden powers, evil enemy. Well done, easy read. Interesting plot, well developed characters. Our orphaned heroine was raised by loving human parents. She realizes she has magic but isn't trained. Supernaturals are known but discriminated against. She attends a Colorado University and meets a group of other supernaturals. Then the adventure begins. Leaves room for interesting potential sequels.
Started up from where book 2 left off. This third installation is full of action and adventure from the group, including new discoveries and sizzling times. It did have a good ending that will leave you satisfied until the next book and is most definitely not a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read more of Sofie and the guys' adventures.
By the end of this book, I have totally fallen in love with these characters. Would love to see them through more adventures, maybe working for the council? Maybe finding Peter or including Victoria or Skye more closely? Waiting impatiently for the next book...
I was actually surprised when the first book ended where I felt there’d been enough story. The other books followed but slightly disappointed there wasn’t an epilogue. It was pretty well written and I was impressed with the way an earlier century young man was introduced. Thank you for an enjoyable night of reading the trilogy.
Dakota Brown has jumped off the high dive with her first series and the ending has not disappointed. Sofia and her pack have a score to settle with the Andersons and an Ash to save. Can they do while juggling final exams? Will the pack be able to find some peace and settle in together. Questions all answered as the Reckoning comes.
I am so glad they got there happy ending including Ash he so deserves happiness after his treatment by the andersons. It was great to see the whole pack grow and bond whilst truly coming together. Written perfectly just as the other books in the series where recommended to all who love rh pnr stories
I enjoyed this trilogy. I usually don’t read books with main characters as young as Sofia but she wasn’t annoying at all. I actually really enjoyed all the characters. The plots were good as well. The sex was just meh but that’s okay (very very slow burn). I definitely recommend reading all three of these books.
Awwww I am a sucker for a tale where the harem are sweet and caring and this trilogy really fit the bill. There is some action and conflict when they take on the bad guys, but the real story is the developing relationships between Sofia and her guys (and the guys with each other). A real warm fuzzy kinda story, I loved it.
I really enjoyed these books, so much so i read all 3 back to back, then walked around with matchsticks holding my eyes open all the next day. Full of engaging characters, with a sweet, sassy and sext FMC and caring loving Men. with a truly rotten bad guy. This is definitely a series i will enjoy read again and again.
I absolutely loved this series and wish it did not have to end. Thank you Dakota for a wonderful time! This series definitely made me happy, the female lead and those wonderful loving males each and every one so well developed... A unique story line and so well written! A ton of steam without being smutty!
An amazing ending to an absolutely enthralling series. My only complaint is that I’m dying to know what Sofia and her pack plan to do in the future and it would have been nice if there’d been an epilogue giving a glimpse into that future. But definitely worth reading; I will also be checking out other books from this author in the future.
I really enjoyed all the better books so far, my only complaint is that the ending seemed at bit rushed and didn’t really leave me fully satisfied. I also wish that she had expanded on the others expanding relationships, and that there were a bit more details added to their sex
