Humanid: Retribution

Rate this book
As our story continues in this book, we open with the knowledge of the Humanids themselves. They're long-lived machines, the human mind blended into a perfectly mechanized body. Humanids are designed for long-duration space travel, replacing humanity's frailties and everyday needs with an indefinite lifespan.

Dr. Maurus is the Humanid project's scientific head of research, development, and operations. A brilliant physician, he excels at anything and everything he turns his attention toward. While his work – and his working hours – are legendary, he's fatigued and needs a rest. Unfortunate events are impeding his respite.

The Professor and Dr. Chang are Humanids now. The two form a solid professional and personal team, learning the Humanid process from Dr. Maurus. They've taken a substantial workload from Maurus's shoulders.

James has failed his transition. He's in an uncertain state – hovering between the two worlds - as Maurus and his team work to recover him. The alternative to recovery is a WRMI, a command procedure resulting in a Humanid's death.

Senator Nyden is also a transitioned Humanid. He's as evil as ever, more so now, because of his transition and increased powers. The Senator's procedure resulted in a defect in one of his legs. His limp is a noticeable defect, significantly impairing his mobility.

Jennifer is at her parent's farm. She's considering her impending Munanid transition, wondering if she should do so or not. Her conflicted position hasn't resolved itself just yet.

Charlie, a secret operative and James's counterpart, serves Nyden exclusively.

Gilbert – or Gil, as he prefers to be named – is also serving Nyden now. He's so successful that he is ready for promotion. Whether he wants this change in his status or not is an open question.

Frank is a saboteur of the lab's equipment and of James's transition, too. He's a secret Nyden underling as well.

Doctors Hecht and Harrison are Maurus proteges. They lead the transition process teams. While Ben Hecht is the superior physician, Dr. Harrison isn't that far behind him.

Dr. Leslie Portal is a senior scientist on the project at the moment.

Our story resumes as Jennifer awakens in her childhood bedroom at her parent's farm.

Well written and the storyline keeps you involved waiting for the next turn of events. The protagonist gets assistance from very unsuspected areas.
