Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
Cloak Mage book 6. Spoilers ahead for the earlier books and earlier series. . . .
And indeed opens in media res with Nadia and Neil Freeman in flight with plans to head for London, her to reunite with Riordan, him to just go home. Nadia gets a call from Riordan. His job went bad, all the cultists died at the hands of -- something, which then took a plane flight, and does not act like a creature of the Shadowlands. It's heading to Milawkee, so they change their plans, too, as Nadia calls up the police chief whom she knows from a prior book.
It involves a warning from the pilot before this, a squirrel, someone from Neil's past, a number of Shadowhunters, Moran Imports and a visit from two Elven dukes, an elderly elf teaching Russell something, and more.
What a great book. Basically non stop action, interesting story. New nemesis that pushes everyone to their limit. I love everything by this author so far
Unrelated, but am I the only one who thinks Russell needs a girlfriend? Not a high school crush but a genuine, adult relationship.
Is there ever going to come a time where Nadia can’t absorb any more magical abilities? It seems like she’s learning new tricks right and left. She was already stronger than the Elven Nobles before this conflict occurred.
So, the actual story was great. The Sleeper was a bona fide bad guy with a power henceforth unknown about to seemingly everyone but Tarlia. Love how pissed Vashtyr is going to be when he finds out about Nadia being promoted to Marshal by the High Queen. There will undoubtedly be more head butting between them in the future.
Lady Kathromane is an enigma to me. She seems almost more powerful than Tarlia, although that should be impossible.
It’s funny. This book has little to do with the ongoing plot threading all the books together. They even discuss that towards the end, it being a ‘black swan event’ - something that can’t be prepared for, an unanticipatable event. Yet it advances that plot all the same, simply by being such an immense threat that the very landscape has changed in the aftermath.
It gets a bit over-dramatic at times, but I just love it when the MC has to reach deeper for that last bit of umph to save the day.
Has Nadia suddenly become a needy wife? Why does she keep whining about not being with her husband? There is nothing more annoying than a strong character losing that strength because of a man.
Then, he finally gets “home” and next she becomes jealous of an old ex. WTF JM, are you pissed at women right now? Why the trope BS? This is NOT the character you created. Nadia is strong and independent. You messed with her with that 150 year trial thing and TBH I’m kinda sick of hearing about that. All good heroines have been thru trauma but it doesn’t have to be mentioned in every Chapter. Learn some tricks from Anita Blake.
I’m reading this series for the strong female character and kickassness, but if you continue making her weak, my attention span will get weak… and I’ll be done.
Bring back the strong Nadia. She deserves better than this.
What a well crafted novel. Personally I think this book in the serial series does an excellent job in developing the plot, the secondary characters and moving the story along.
This was just such a fun read and brought in new aspects of Nadia’s development, the challenges of her powers and position and her relationships with others.
If you’ve gotten this far in the series, I expect that you like the novels and are going to continue with the next one. I, like you am anticipating picking that one up to continue the adventure.
I read this book start to finish in one sitting! The incorporation of new characters and elements, and the development of existing ones makes for another entertaining and enjoyable experience. The story is well written with very few mistakes. I can't wait for the next one
Adversity builds character and true leaders will rise to the occasion and shine. Nadia and her brother both rose to the occasion and performed heroically to save the humans and elves. The twists and turns make for great reading, and you can be sure the future will not be dull as Marshall of the Gate
Moeller has served up another fantastic story, with unexpected twists! I have enjoyed all of his stories, and Nadia's tale has continued to grip me. I cant wait for the next one!
Nadia's stories keep on getting better. She is definitely someone you'd be glad to have on your side in a fight, as long as the fight was just. Well drawn characters and action. Eagerly looking forward to reading the remaining tales !!!
Amazing read again Jonathon Moeller I have been reading about Nadia MacCormac ever since Morbilland This one done in 3 sittings!! Couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one.
