Thank you to Book of Matches Media and Lindsey Sparks for providing me with a digital copy of this book. This is my honest review.
-
I’m baaaaack and here to yell about this series again 😂 Darkness Between The Stars yanked me right out of a week long slump! I loved the first book in this series and the second one was just as good 🤌🏽
-
Can I get a hell yeah for personal growth? Tarset really embraced her identity and her abilities in this book. It’s really important to see mental health struggles in literature (yes, even in fiction!), and Sparks didn’t shy away from topics like depression and PTSD. I’ve grown to really appreciate all of Tarset’s struggles and strength 🖤
-
I have leagues to say about Atum and most of it is inappropriate 😂 I love characters that straddle the line between brooding and caring and he’s no exception. I loved learning more about who he is outside of guarding the timeline. He felt more well-rounded in this book.
-
And that palpable tension I talked about in book 1?! It definitely pays off here 👀🔥 I love that their connection extends beyond the physical plans. It felt more intimate that way. This book is more romance-focused than the first, but I honestly didn’t mind. I really enjoyed watching their relationship blossom.
-
I also really liked the jumps to present day and seeing other characters in this world. I still need to read the other series in this universe and the glimpses we got here made me want to read them even more. This book also showed us more of the time travel and their abilities in general. Again, I need more! 🗣️

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

Atum & Tarset are my new fave characters. They're so nicely fleshed out and I felt they didn't need anything added to them. They're both grownups, they know what they want and how to get it and no matter how hard life gets they find their own way. I loved the rawness of Tarset and her past trauma and how she was trying to navigate it, and one lesson to learn is that your trauma can't be healed without a bit of help from someone who helps you, and that was very beautiful!
There are other characters in the book but they didn't feel vital to me, they do move and add flavor to the book but I don't feel they're the main piece, but they're an important piece to the story tho.

⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜
Once again the world is beautiful and makes me even more obsessed with the world described in the book and makes me feel I'd love living in it.

⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜
I loved how raw this book got, the emotions, the events, and the soul-bonding even tho it was a spicy scene it was so beautiful. I really loved the perspective Atum has over death and how he celebrates those who passed away, definitely an emotional scene and had my heart in my throat. I loved how Atum was this big strong man and yet he was almost begging Tarset to choose - that scene was definitely a powerful one because it is not that often when we see men kneeling in front of love. The pace of the story was beautiful. I loved how easy reading this book felt, I didn't realize when I finished or how much I was reading at a time because it was just flowing. To say the 3rd book can come quick enough is an understatement, I'm loving this trilogy!

⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜
This one got more spicy than the last one, I'd say it would be round 4 flame peppers. It's not overly smutty on the contrary I found the scenes to be spicy but with taste and I loved the details offered, they do play on your imagination.

Darkness Between the Stars is the second book in the Fateless Trilogy—a dark, steamy time travel romance series that envelops you in the mystique of Egyptian mythology. It continues where the first book ends with Tarset trapped in the past with Atum.

Torn between her fated soulmate, Atum, and the life she left behind, she must grapple with a heartrending choice that would affect her future. As she tries to deal with the trauma from everything she went through, she fears being unable to control her destructive power.

When her abilities lead to a deadly event, she is ridden with guilt and suffers from it. She is scared of the dissonance she could cause to the timeline if she continues to be alongside Atum. As her power spirals out of control, Atum becomes her anchor. But she is uncertain if his love will be enough to save her from the encroaching darkness.

In the present time, Kat and the rest of the family try to find as many pieces of the puzzle as possible to save Tarset and deal with the new problem that arises among their people.

I enjoyed the sequel more than the first book since I got more familiar with this world. I enjoyed watching Tarset and Atum understand each other and come to a decision. I loved that Tarset didn’t forget what he put her through just because he loves her. I enjoyed watching them process everything and not simply forget.

This book explained a lot of questions that arose from the first book. The multiple POV helped understand everyone’s thought process behind every decision and have much-needed insight to the flow of events. I can’t wait to read the finale to this intriguing trilogy!

Thank you to the author and BOMM for sending me an ARC to this fascinating read!

“Though I would rather the world believe me a monster, if it meant I would have you by my side.”

I've officially finished Darkness Between the Stars! You've probably seen me mention that it's the second book in the Fateless Trilogy—a dark, steamy time travel romance series with Egyptian mythology and forbidden love.

Tarset is still trapped in the past with Atum as this book begins. Her choice between loving and staying with Atum or being back with her family hangs over her head. Already struggling with the torture she underwent in the first book, things get heavy when her golden power affects things in a disasterous way.

The world building is just as wonderfully descriptive in this book. The chemistry is off the charts and I appreciated how a lot of questions I had in the first book were answered in this one. The bulk of the novel deals with a lot of heavy guilt and struggles Tarset is trying to handle. The content warnings for depression and suicidal thoughts is legitimate for this darker side of our beloved MC. I'd like to also point out that there is a scene that could be interpreted as cutting.

I was not as captivated with the POVs from the present day characters. I'm not sure why exactly but it pulled me out of the storyline between Atum and Tarset.

Overall, a captivating read that took a deeper turn than I had expected. There is one more novel to go in this trilogy too! If you're a lover of forbidden attraction, morally gray characters and time travel check out the purchase link in my bio for more!

4.5 ⭐️ Oh how I love this series and being swept away to a fantasy version of Ancient Egypt! This sequel to 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨, and the second book in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺, delivered on everything I was hoping for - character growth, answered questions, adventure (with pirate vibes!!), twists and turns, and - above all - that soul-deep, steamy romance I was desperately craving!! The payoff for the sloooow burn was definitely worth it!

The first book took a little time to learn all the characters and get through some of the world-building, but 𝘿𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨 pulled me in right away! I was instantly immersed in the incredible world that Lindsey Sparks creates. I loved how this book added layers of details and complexity to the universe and magic system. The author’s creativity just blows my mind!!

The stakes for our MCs are higher in this book too, and the tension and weight of the monumental decisions that must be made are palpable and give the story a bit of a heavier feel than I was expecting- but in a good way!! I really appreciated how Tarset matured so much in this book. This was definitely more of a character-driven story than the first book, but the ending takes an interesting turn which sets up the plot for the final book in the trilogy, and I can’t wait to read it!

If you love time-travel, Egyptian mythology, unique magic systems, dual timelines, a strong female lead, and slow burn romance, I highly recommend checking out this series!

This sequel continues after the first book with Tarset and Atum trying to maintain the timeline’s balance, and trying to figure out their potential maybe soul bonded romance.

I really liked Tarset a lot more in this sequel. She was not very tolerable for me in the first book, and in this sequel, she seemed to grow a lot more and really started to think more about others rather than herself. She even would acknowledge when she realized she was starting to think only about herself and make adjustments. She was less of the spoiled popular pop star, and more of an adult woman with more maturity.

I loved the relationship between Tarset and Atum. It was so frustrating and filled with so much angst and tension and it was wonderful! I love slow burn romances making you wonder whether will they or won’t they, and just gives me good anxiety 😂 and makes me read the book fast! I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down!

My only qualm is that, after I finished, I wasn’t sure what the point of the book was aside from the two trying to figure out their relationship and Tarset trying to figure out whether she wanted to pursue their relationship or go home. There wasn’t much of a plot. I’m curious to know how it continues because it doesn’t seem like there needs to be anymore to their story, but I’ll find out I guess!

I received a free digital copy to read. Thank you to the author and Book of Matches Media 🥰 All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed diving back into the story with Tarset and Atum, Darkness Between the Stars was just as good as the first book.

Sparks does a great job of jumping between time periods (Present Day vs. Ancient Egypt), I don't feel to bogged down with the information given from both periods.
I love the different Character POVs. It's always fun to see how other characters are evolving with the plot and how the effect it.
I wished there were more scenes from others perspective during some of the more important bits.

I loved the character growth! Sparks gives us a great sequel with real character struggles and growth. It's always great to see characters go through things like depression and PTSD, and how they progress through these stages.

Atum is a lovely character. He straddles this line between ultra caring and super broody. I really liked that we got to see him a bit outside of the timeline, albeit just a tiny bit. I'm curious to see how Tarsets perspective on his effect of the timeline changes how he handles things.

The connection between Tarset and Atum is deeper in this novel. I love how intimate it is, on a whole other spectral plan. It's worked in beautifully, not just for them, but other couples in the series as well. I really need to read the other intertwined series to see what I'm missing!!

Looking forward to more from this author!

“Bravery is not the absence of fear. But the fortitude to push onward in spite of fear.”

Read this series if you enjoy a time travel romance set in ancient Egypt times and modern times with multiple POVs, fated mates, morally grey love interest!

The plot started right after the ending of the first book - Song of Scarabs and Fallen Stars.
I enjoy reading this one even more probably because of the short chapters and I’m not too busy trying to understand the world building and I already know some of the characters as well.

I really like the character development on Tarset’s character. She’s torn between choosing her family or the love she just found, not to mention she also has to deal with a traumatic feelings and I love how supportive and caring Atum toward Tarset.

Overall, this is a great addition to the series which really helps me understand and answer some questions I had about the plot and world building.
I’m looking forward to read the third and final book in the Fateless trilogy!

Thank you to Book of Matches Media and the author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

A great second installment in the Fateless trilogy, this second book picks up right where the ending of book 1 left us. Atum and Tarset are faced with choices that could drastically affect both their present and Tarset’s future. She is, understandably, torn between wanting to remain with her soulmate or returning to the other life she’s built for herself and the people she left behind. ⁣

I loved that this second installment focuses more on Tarset’s inner struggle and the choices that she has to face that not only affect her, but also Atum. Now that they’ve found each other again across space and time, they’re at risk for losing what they have all over again. There’s a lot of tension and angst this time around and I loved every minute of it. I also really liked that we got to see more of this fantastic world that Tarset is stuck in, and we get more time in the present as Tarset’s friends and family work to find a solution to get her back. ⁣

Bottom line — Pick this one up if you’re a lover of: ⁣

➽ fated mates ⁣⁣
➽ time travel ⁣⁣
➽ Ancient Egypt ⁣⁣
➽ grumpy + sunshine ⁣⁣
➽ forced proximity ⁣⁣
➽ morally grey characters + so much more. ⁣

What’s it about?
In the sequel to A Song of Scarabs and Fallen stars picks up where the first left off. Atum has disrupted the timeline by killing Tarset’s torturer. And now the half-god’s souls are exploding for no apparent reason.

A soul bond is forming between Tarset and Atum, and she must decide if she will stay in the past and help her would be soulmate, or return to the future forever to live with her family.

My Thoughts:
I adored this book. Where the first one was so painful—both emotionally and physically—the second book is a slow healing. Atum and Tarset learn to trust one another as they travel across oceans and to an island separate from time. Other characters who were traumatized in book one, begin down healing journeys in book two—both past and present.

I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to believe in Atum’s redemption after the first book, but I am so glad I was wrong. I adored him in this installment and was so happy to see the love story blossom and grow.

This was definitely one of those books that made me sad to realize it was ending with so much more story to tell! I’m all in for book 3!

Ugh. I loved this book. I loved the continuation of Tarset and Atum's story, I loved the split POV - both in ancient egypt and the periods set in the present day, and I love the suspicions I have about who people are and where this might be going. But no spoilers!

We follow Tarset's journey in ancient Egypt after she recovers from the events of the previous book. The steam level in this book stepped up another notch and was great! I loved the dynamic between her and Atum. There were some choices that had to be made in this book that were pretty tough, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all resolves.

Also, I think the image of pirate-Mr-Darcy is my favourite thing ever and I'm going to need some fan art of that, stat.

If you like dark and seductive time-travel historical fiction, ancient Egypt, Egyptian mythology, historical/fantasy romance, grumpy/sunshine and just excellent storytelling, then I highly recommend reading Darkness Between the Stars.

This book is the second book in the Fateless trilogy. You do need to have read the first book in the series for this one to make sense, and even better, both the Echo trilogy and Kat's books as well. The final book, Uncross the Stars, will be coming soon.

I'll say it from now until forever, I love Tarset and I love Atum. I love how Tarset's people painted Atum as this monster and yet we get to see and hear him be the opposite all the time. He is kind, caring, thoughtful and selfless.

This second book focused a lot on their growing relationship and Tarset's decision to stay or go. Throw in some impending timeline doom, and exploding souls and we reach the end with some hope and some fear going into book 3!

Some of my favorite parts:
✨ Markings on Atum in *certain areas* 😉 could be felt by Tarset in *certain areas* 😉 when touched
✨ An island where time is separate from the main timeline.
✨ Well written mental health (depression/suicidal thoughts) talk and support from outside characters.
✨ The love!
✨ The revelations from Atum about Tarset's time and abuse in Inyotefs dungeons.
✨ Amazing slow burn
✨ Spicy scenes

This takes place in ancient time and present day, and with each book we get a little more insight into the present day timeline. I enjoyed Kat and Nik so much!

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 rounded up!

Right off the bat I was happy to see that this book picked up where book 1 leaves off. Tarset and Atum are trying their best to maintain the timeline, while also sorting through their relationship. I’m always for the couple staying together, a total burn-the-world-down kind of reader lol.

Overall I would say that most of the growth in this book is character growth, rather than intense plot development. But that was totally okay because I loved seeing Tarset and Atum work through everything together. Their romance was giving me all the angst, and it was so worth it!
Tarset also continues to develop her character beautifully, and it is felt in her reactions to things, even to her own actions by trying to fix her mistakes.

As a reader I felt I had a much better grasp on this world in this book. I was so in love with the whole premise to begin with. Time travel meets Egyptian mythology is a combo I hadn’t read before, and I have enjoyed getting immersed into such a fabulous world.

The second book in the Fateless trilogy that takes us on another rollercoaster of emotions as we see Atum and Tarset’s relationship unfold. This trilogy addresses some very real and difficult emotions in a carefully thought out way that makes the characters relatable and continues to have us rooting for them.

We’re taken back to Ancient Egypt with video imagery throughout but I also enjoyed the connections to the present which, quite frankly, are so expected at times that I’ve stopped trying to guess what will happen next and have just sat back to enjoy the story as it unfolds. With this we’re kept guessing as to where lives will end up.

Reading the books in the Echo world are always a bit bittersweet for me, I like to try to take my time to read and enjoy being enveloped into the ancient world and intricate storylines, but it’s balanced with a need to see what will happen next. Another great addition to the Echo world, long may these continue.

Exciting and powerful read!!!

🔹Multiple POV
🔹Dual timelines
🔹Ancient Egypt
🔹Egyptian mythology
🔹Time travel

Tarset and Atum are back in this exciting story. Get ready for *all* kinds of twists and turns, intrigue, adventure, and decisions along the way. Set between the past of ancient Egypt, and the present- with Tarset's family/friends we get ALL the emotions. There is LOTS of action, drama, romance, magic, Egyptian mythology, family and more. Decisions are hard, and the time has come. I absolutely loved this chapter of Tarset's journey!!! It was fun seeing glimpses of her family and friends-that many fans know from previous series. I love how rich and complex this world is. I couldn't put this exciting adventure down, and am greatly looking forward to book three!

Darkness Between the Stars is the second book in the Fateless trilogy and picks up right where the first one ended.

Tarset is facing a big dilemma after being stuck in the past where she meets her bond mate, Atum. Now she has to decide if she wants to go back to her family or bond with Atum and stay by his side forever stuck in the past.

Where the first book was a lot about Tarset fighting to survive and go back home, Darkness Between The Stars takes a complete 180-degree turn and focuses heavily on romance.

We also get to know more about Atum and his life. Although in terms of plot, not a lot happens in the first half which makes it a little slow, it still manages to keep you hooked and turn page after page.

There are also certain chapters from other characters' POVs from the future timeline, which as far as I know have their books, so I’ll be checking out those as well, I am especially curious about Kat & Nic’s story.

The characters that I have loved from the beginning of this Echo World have exponentially grown into their places and beyond. Tarset and Atum, Nik and Kat, and so many more weave their way thru new challenges and discovery. Deep soul love, verge of war and the plights of the characters lives makes this book magic. As the 2nd book in the Fateless Trilogy the story begins when it left off in book. It left me laughing, crying, and just plain angry at the plot twists given the characters. Lindsey is an evil genius the way she can weave in the unexpected.
Loved this 2nd book as much if not more than the first.

Not going to lie! I really like Tarset and Atum alot more in this sequel!

They both grow in this sequel and seem to flourish beyond the immaturity level I personally found to be present in book one. I also love how their relationship blossoms! I love a good slow burn with angst so this was perfect!

In terms of engagement, I will say I was more invested in these two than in everything else that was going on or happening in the book. Sometimes it feel like things were moving a tad slower so the pacing was a little off but the romance makes up for it.

Nevertheless it is definitely a book worth checking out!

Fabulous continuation from Book 1 as everything slams back into Tarset and she struggles to come to terms with what she endured and narrowly escaped from. There are various dark topics that are part of this book, you feel yourself dropping into such dark depths with Tarset, succumbing to the shadows until small tendrils of wonder and light pull Tarset (and you) out again, into a world that reaches beyond your furthest imagination.

Lindsey has a knack for weaving plenty of action, plot and emotion into her tales, letting you temporarily exist in another world, even for a short time. You will not want to put this book down.

Timeless Strength

This story answers many questions left dangling at the end of book one. Atum’s kindness and true nature is revealed, along with perspective on his role in Nejeret society for thousands of years. The story switches back and forth between ancient Egypt and present day as the fragile forces of the newly constructed universe are still settling. The story gets better and better the deeper we go and I’m hoping the worlds/timelines can merge before it is too late.

The second book in the Fateless trilogy, Darkness Between the Stars continues the journey of Tarset and Atum in ancient Egypt.
The wonderful world building that author Lindsey Sparks creates, makes you feel as if you’re actually in the chosen time period. This series encompasses so many different aspects - from the purest and most joyous feelings, to some very dark and emotional situations, so be forewarned.
For me, the parts of the book that show glimpses of Kat and Nik are extra special, being that the Echo trilogy is one of my faves!

I really enjoyed this book. I found that Tarset’s character was very likable, and I enjoyed watching her and Atum interact. I loved that both characters worked to process what had happened in the first book, instead of simply forgiving and forgetting. There was so much drama, romance, and intrigue that I was hooked almost immediately. I enjoyed how Author Lindsay Sparks was able to capture moments in Ancient History, while also creating a unique story. One of my favorite parts of reading was seeing glimpses of Tarsets family, as I came to love them in their books.

Lindsey has done it again! The Echo trilogy was one of the series that got me back into reading several years ago and too see the story continued just makes me so incredibly happy! Love Egyptian Mythology? Love time travel? Dual timelines? Seriously this entire world is perfect!

I loved getting to see the tension between Tarset and Atum continue and then resolve in the best way! I love Tarset character development as well and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here! All in all this is another fantastic read from Lindsey and I will always recommend these books and this world to anyone who I think would enjoy it. Can not wait for the riveting finale!

The chemistry between Tarset and Atum builds and builds, until it becomes as steamy as can be! Seriously, I don’t know where Lindsey Sparks comes up with some of her ideas but they’re amazing!

This book is definitely steamy but it’s so much more. The storyline is great, while we learn what is to become of Tarset in ancient Egypt. I also love the peeks into what is happening with the the family that Tarset left behind in modern times, tying this series into the rest if the Echo World.

Darkness between the stars is a fantastic way to continue Tarset's story. The characters and world Lindsey continues to build on are gloriously rich, and the love interest is gloriously morally grey when it comes to her. So many touch her and die vibes that leave you tearing through page after page.

Beware the cliff hangers though.

I am loving following Tarset's journey (The Echo Series is a personal fave), and can't wait to see where it goes from here. This book picks up right where Song of Scarabs and Fallen Stars ends, and doesn't disappoint, especially if you're a fan of sexy romance, time travel, ancient Egypt and drama. The concurrent timelines *chef's kiss*. I can't wait for the final book in this series!!
