To clear her name, Birdie will have to help a fallen knight, Sir Gawain, save the king by listening for a shattered sword’s song that only she can hear. And she’ll have to find it before Mordred, a handsome traitor from a past Birdie doesn’t want to remember, can enslave their seven United Kingdoms with his mark.

Hi there! I'm a sci-fi & fantasy writer who spends most of her time arguing with people who don't exist to write stories for people who do. If I'm not holed up beneath a pile of books and notes, I'm off exploring somewhere I've never been before.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

I'm a sucker for morally grey characters, complex betrayals, and books that keep you guessing who the villains really are. The fact that The Malevolent's Mark covers all of that in an Arthurian fantasy setting had me very intrigued from the moment I read the synopsis.

Birdie is an intriguing FMC. She's strong and despite losing her memories, has a great sense of self-preservation, and will fight for what she believes in. I liked her magical gifts, and as the book progresses, how her forgotten identity slowly starts to come back. Admittedly, I appreciated Mordred more than Sir Gawain as a love interest, and whilst the novel spends time going back and forth over the two men, I didn't falter in my appreciation for the morally grey Mordred. He's such a fascinating character, and the fact that he had a permanent injury yet was still so powerful was a nice touch. I can only hope we get more from him.

The side characters and different parts to the kingdom of Avalon were fascinating and the world-building was cleverly done. I felt like I was in the worlds of the Final Fantasy games my brother played when we were younger, with the aerships, macana and steampunk elements that tied in well with the magic of this world. I look forward to seeing this developed further in the next book of this series.

Admittedly, I didn't feel the 1920s aspect to this world that is mentioned in the synopsis. As a historian, I came into this expecting something different than delivered. This isn't a big deal to the overall world, because as soon as I started to think of it as its own fantasy realm like the games my brother would play, it no longer bothered me. But it a small thing I wanted to point out, given how advanced some of the magic gave to the atmosphere (tablet devices through magicked glass, for example), and clothing options, it is a little misleading if you're trying to envision a time period.

Overall, this was a fantastic start to this series. I'm completely hooked, and cannot wait to read what happens next.

“She wasn’t just a Malevolent. She was his, and he was hers. That was why and how they were bound”

The Malevolent’s Mark is a book filled with fantasy elements including spells, magic and what not. The book starts with Birdie on a mission which unfortunately fails miserably putting Birdie in a life threatening situation. Filled with relief for having saved her own and her friend’s life, she stumbles upon another surprising discovery about herself and her past. The situation comes to a point where she has to choose between her freedom and her friend’s life. What will she choose? Is she selfish enough to flee from the heart wrenching situation or kind enough to forget her freedom forever and save her friend’s life?

Mordred, the ideal prince reappears into her life when she needs him the most and helps her become free from her own troubles. It was then when she asks him about her mother being dead. Is she really dead? Or was Birdie just cursing herself unnecessarily for being a killer?

The book has magic, pages filled with romance, triangle romance, and many more. Also, the chapters are quite short making it easier to read. Chapter after chapter, one keeps getting hooked and keeps wondering about the turn of events happening in Birdie, Gawain and Mordred’s lives.

As the only negative aspect, the book is a bit difficult to get through but after a couple of pages, one can find it hard to not be hooked. The story keeps getting better with twists and turns filling the readers with something more than a feeling of just reading a book instead, watching a movie.

This book was an instant buy for me the moment I saw the cover, and it didn't disappoint. I haven't read an Arthurian steampunk novel before but it was such a cool premise. There were so many good details and twists and turns that I just wanted to get to the end to see if any of my predictions were right (and some of them were). This cast of characters was great and the cliffhanger has left me with so many questions. Gawain was one of my favorites next to Birdie (love a good grumpy character). I'm rating it 4.5 stars only because there were some parts that moved too quickly and I wanted more added to them and a few parts where it was hard to follow the dialogue with who was talking. Still a very solid and twisty novel that makes you question what is really the truth.

The Malevolent's Mark (The Song of Excalibur Saga Book 1) is a novel that would thrill you and give you the feeling of being present in the world of supernaturalism. Ripley Grimms has done a commendable job in penning the novel splendidly.

1921, Camelot – Birdie Smith, a siren thief has entirely forgotten her past life or rather she prefers not getting exposed to her another identity. She is on a mission which is breathtaking, that is to kidnap Sir Gawain, who once happened to be a prince.

This novel is simply spectacular, and I appreciate the manner the author has added the thrills. Moreover, the mention of King Arthur and Merlin was something unexpected and good, as I have never read about them. So, it was a sort of retelling for me. Overall, the novel was entirely action packed, with lucid style of writing and I wish to read the upcoming volumes to know the after scenes.

An exciting Arthurian story

-Big thanks to Hidden Gems Books for the eARC-

Birdie is a siren and a thief, which suits her just fine. But when she's forced into a marriage she doesn't want, everything goes wrong. She steals from the wrong man: Sir Gawain, and finds herself dragged into a quest to find a sword if she wants to clear her name. As the past she's forgotten rises to the surface, including someone capable of controlling her through a mark, she will have to understand who she is and what she stands for if she wants to survive the journey...

This book turned my brain upside down in the most exciting way! I loved Birdie from the first pages, she's strongwilled, sassy and brave, just the way I like protagonists. The book was action-packed and fast-paced, making me breathless and excited to know more. I loved the Arthurian legend's inspiration and how the author played with it to make it hers. It was super enthralling and mysterious. I loved the different revelations and the sort of love triangle that developped. But what I loved the most was how I couldn't stop having doubts all throughout the book. I couldn't decide who to trust, who to believe, and just when I thought I'd figured out who was right or wrong, a new plot-twist slapped me in the face, shattering all my conclusions. I LOVED IT. I couldn't stop reading and fell in love with the world and story effortlessly. The writing was smooth and smart, easy to read with beautiful descriptions of fight/action scenes that had me hooked. I cannot wait to read the sequel and (maybe) finally understand who was lying and manipulating and who was telling the truth because I just need to know!

I highly recommend this epic fantasy story full of plot-twists that will blow your mind!

"'You mean you've been on your own this whole time?'
Birdie shrugged. 'Isn't everyone?'"

An entrancing ride that moves quickly from friend to foe and one near death experience after another. A substantially tangled web of ambition, brooding sexual tension and a seemingly unattainable knowledge of ones own past.

Using the classic names of Aurthorian heroes and villains, Grimms twists them into a new and intriguing mix of myth and mystery. Crafting an exciting steampunk fantasy alt UK that transitions between multiple well loved tropes with ease as the story advances.

Birdie Smith, The Siren Thief, washed up on the shores of Camelot 2 years ago. With no knowledge of who, where or what she truly was. Just like Birdie’s amnesia, we are piecing together the story haphazardly, through her eyes that never see the whole picture. The cold hearted knight, Sir Gawain, has been on a relentless search for her for this whole time. Sent out to find the missing piece of a puzzle that will set their whole world back to rights. Mordred, The Traitor, is dark and mysterious, with an undeniable pull on Birdie’s soul. (Who can deny an entrance like this, “[Birdie] watched Mordred step into the light as if he were made from the shadows themselves.”)

Heists, underworld gangsters, forced marriage, dark lover, buddy comedy, a neglected son, love triangle, a fight for the throne, a quest, so close to the “only one bed” trope I could’ve cried! The story is undeniably entertaining! And always with a shadow of a history that we haven’t fully pieced together, constantly scrambling to collect all of the breadcrumbs of secrets and lies. It’s a fantastic fantasy world that will surely keep you wanting more and to finally understand what it all means!

“…no matter what name you use, your past is coming for you.”

Cannot wait for the next book The Malevolent’s Memory!

Book Name -: The Malevolent's Mark
Writer -: Ripley Grimms
Genre -: Fantasy

Short Summary -: The story showcased in the book is set in 1920's UK, where our female protagonist 'Birdie' who was a siren thief with her gang of thieves was continuing their robbery of Royal Navy ship. She used her magical voice to trance people . Futher in the story we got to know that she has lost all of memories of her past even her name but she had a Malevolent's Mark, people call her the chosen one but she also didn't recognise anything about it. While their robbery went wrong Sir Gawain recognised her but instead of arresting her, he decided to ask for her help to save King Arthur. In their journey she became a part of the love triangle of Gawain and his brother Mordard.

What happened Later! Was she able to save the king?
Read to find out.

Things I Liked -:

1. The Story - I have to say that this is one of the most gripping story I've read this year. Every thing about the story is unique whether it's the portrayal of & connection of characters with the story or the unimaginable storyline. It was like a rollercoaster ride where you don't know what's going to happen on next turn. Every page of the book is like a turning point, which compelled me to read more and more. And also the story shares a lot more than elements of fantasy, its about Emotions , Power, journey to find yourself.

2. The character -: The another best thing of this book are the characters and the character development. Birdie became one of my favourite Fantasy character after reading this. Also the chemistry between the character of Birdie and Prince Gawain was blended in a way that it make the story more beautiful. And also each character has its own journey and hides a dark secret whether i talk about Birdie or Mordred. Everyone is unpredictable in the story become of such a well developed storyline of characters that you can't imagine who's the hero and who's the villian.

3. The fantasy element of this book is more on a realistic side with touch of imagination of the author. I didn't find it going overboard and making the book confusing or anything.

4. The language I'll say way neither easy nor hard. Although the fluid narration make the story easy to understand and fast paced.

Things I didn't like -:

1. I found some scenes was not described in a good way which make it confusing and somewhat hard to understand.

2. I kinda think that the story was dragged to be lengthy. It could have been shorter.

My opinion -: This book is a treat for fantasy lover. It got everything what a fantasy lover need not only that it has a plot full of twist and turn a total unpredictable story and also characters too. It has elements of romance, mystery also in it. The character are something that will make you fall in love with the book too.

Rating -: 4.5/5 🌟

The Malevolent's Mark by Ripley Grimms is a book of fantasy, sci-fi and romance genre I would say. The story opens up with our protagonist Birdie Smith robbing the royals with her group of thieves, while she sings them into a trance as she is a siren. From there it takes various twists and turns and by the end of it, our protagonist, it would be safe to say that she is someone even she herself does not recognize.
What does one do when they do not remember anything about themselves? Reading this book led to me questioning two thing; one, whether we are anything without our memories and how far can one go in quest of power and revenge or power which comes from fulfillment of that revenge.
The plot, I would say is something more than meets the eyes really. It tells a tale of love above all, and all the emotions that take root following this one- jealousy, hunger, revenge, pain, grief.
I personally am not a huge huge fan of fantasy my thirst to read something of that genre begins and ends at Harry Potter honestly, I know that does not sound very good, but I am a bit set in my ways. But I still picked up this one because the blurb mentioned a siren and a girl after whom probably the whole world is. And as I researched a bit more, I realized it was an Arthurian retelling.
What I personally loved about the story was that is was not just limited to sirens and witches and faeries but rather it included automated machines behaving humane along with a lot of other things which can only be possible if science meets magic. I am thoroughly impressed with the writers imagination in this one.
The plot had a lot of twists and turns and like Birdie, you too would be left questioning who is right here and who is not? Who is the evil one really. I assure you, it is all revealed at the end.
The one thing I wish there was more of is Birdie and Sir Gawain's chemistry. It just left me wanting more, which I did not get and am a bit disappointed about. But I also love Birdie and Sir Jones' later revealed to be Mordred, the villain of this story.
The best part about this is that the plot just flows, one after another, it does not seem forced and without an effort, is intriguing.
The one thing that did not work for me was at points the descriptions of one particular scene seemed a bit hard to follow which led me to rereading that part again.
But apart from that, this has to be one of the most perfect books I have read in this genre. Eagerly waiting for the next part as there are too many questions left and a lot of loose ends to tie.
Will recommend it to those who are looking to start in the fantasy genre or love reading fantasy.

BOOK:-𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩'𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠
Author:- 𝙍𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝙂𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙨

🔹 Congratulations to the author for writing a flaming novel that is full of suspense and adventure, this book kept me hooked from page one to end. The cover page of this fantastic novel is giltering and eye shoothable. This wonderful and thriling book contains a strange magic, adventure and exciting events that take the reader's mind to a mythical world.

🔹This story happens back in 1921 in Camelot. A siren thief called Birdie Smith lost her memory including her name. She's a special character having Malevolents's mark. She was followed by a series of events while she tries to rob Sir Gawain. I reckon from here the story Unveils its layers of Heists, Mysticism, Game of Power, Thrones,Love, Passion, Betrayal, Family Dynamics. There was a modern take on classic characters such as King Arthur and Merlin, who we love, along with new characters. The coolest character was Vivien, the commander of the Wardens who can change her appearance. Each character plays a vital role which keeps the reader engaged. It was a unique, magical world that has the best of everything for anyone who loves fantasy. I loved the world of Golen, which is an underground city run by robots ! The high and low inflexions, coupled with the rhythmic melody of words in a language that no one knew, not even her. In rush, she has stolen a knight which is a wrong decision. The only thing with her is the songs. She has something with Gawain, his tightened grip is holding her .

🔹This book has so many plot twists , this book gives you trust issues. Through the pages, you don't know who to trust. Ngl, It sort of gave me Darkling and Alina vibes from Ruin and Rising. But this is so beautifully written. I couldn't just stop reading.

🔹Whether you are a thriller fan or not. You must read this book. I am sure you will like this book Overall, I liked the book .The title is quite appropriate. The writing style of the book is interesting. This book deserves to be hyped a lot and it's so much worth it. It's my best read so far, I absolutely loved every page of it. My only regret is that I don't have a physical copy. Of course I would recommend this book to all readers.

🦅The Malevolent's Mark 🦅
By Ripley Grimms

🖋️Odd as it sounds, this is hot coffee, warm blanket comfort food for me. Admittedly, that’s not the typical description of this cynical, bleak-themed, Sci-Fi Novel. However, the easy, breezy style with which Ripley explores her melancholy material manages to pluck smiles from me when I pick it up. This goes around, I read this novel very recently, which was released a year ago. It was a mood brightening Novel with good story line.

🖋️This is my first book of the series and I was seriously impressed with this book. This story takes place in 1921 at Camelot. This story takes us through the life of a woman named Birdie Smith, who is a Siren thief, even she forgot everything that happened in her past life and her name too. She is our main MC.

🖋️Birdie Smith is break faith by her best friend, However she tries hard to save her.To that extent she is a selfless woman, I love this character about Birdie. The gist of this story is how she steals Sir Gawain.

🖋️Birdie is a unusual person and she also has this Malevolent's Mark in her which make her more unique and with that she help her friends to be safe. In the mid there are a lot characters were introduced I was terribly surprised to see King Arthur and Merlin.

🖋️I don't want to unfold the entire story here, if I do you lost your interest. So I'm going to stop spoiling. Do grab your copies to know more about How birdie save her friends? What is this about the Malevolent's Mark in her? How does it make her special?

🖋️In addition to the overriding theme of history’s wheel-like pattern, Ripley'touches on different emotions such as trust, love, friendship and the right to life. This is a towering science fiction work, but Ripley’s messages are deftly delivered behind a humorous, engaging future.

🖋️In sum, this book is a light touch of morale outrage. It’s a cozy warning of human’s stupidity. It’s a warm, comforting “blankie” for our inner cynic to snuggle with while we wait for the shoe/anvil to drop.

🖋️Ripley has crafted a very good book, enjoyable for any science fiction fan and a well written work of fiction besides.

Birdie, The siren Thief had lost her memory, only she can remember is the songs which are so beautiful. The high and low inflexions, coupled with the rhythmic melody of words in a language that no one knew, not even her. In rush, she has stolen a knight which is a wrong decision. The only thing with her is the songs. She has something with Gawain, his tightened grip is holding her. She conflicts with Gawain, Gwenn, and her past, her memories, her aim, what is a connection between the mark and her?

To know more about this fantasy tale of Birdie, you need to read the book. A roller coaster of incidents happened around Birdie which is overwhelming for me. I got confused between the characters so I am flipping again and again to understand. But when I got the grip on the characters it was a fast read. It's a long book and you need to be focused while reading. The struggle when someone loses their memory and doesn't know what the reason for their existence is beautifully weaved. The trance of revenge, power, love, confusion and the fight between evil and good are the required elements in fantasy and this one has everything. The chemistry between the protagonist through the odds of the situation, the feeling brews like a fire and you just can not do anything, the uncontrollable emotion, the pain is there. This tale is not only about love, revenge and the search for power but a tale of friendship also where a friend can do anything for another one, the bond is something which will keep you tied before doing anything wrong.

This one is the first book of The song of Excalibur saga. The fun part is, my eyes get stuck to the author's description which is Villain loving writer and I am like Oo I like her. More reads are coming from this saga.
So, get ready to dive into the fantasy world of The siren Thief.

THE MALEVOLENT'S MARK (The Song of Excalibur Saga; Book 1)
by
Ripley Grimms (I'm a Sci-fi fantasy villain-loving writer who spends most of her time having silent conversations with people who don't exist to write stories for people who do.)😯

📖 Forgotten spells spoken were meant to be broken in this 1920s fantasy mystery about Birdie Smith — a siren thief with a song enchanting enough to empty any pocket.

That is until she robs the wrong knight, Sir Gawain. To clear her name, she’ll have to help him find a broken, singing sword. Fast, before a handsome traitor with secrets to Birdie’s past can use her to enslave the United Kingdoms with his Malevolent's Mark.

Ensnared in a world where machines control magic, dark secrets abound, and forbidden romances await, Birdie is unsure whom she should trust, even her own heart.

📍2 parts, 51 chapters. First & foremost, the cover is majestic! And the powerful storyline packed with fast paced narrative makes it a wonderful read! Birdie who mesmerizes people with her enchanting songs to loot them but remembers little of her own past & the source of these songs that she knows very well..gets recognised in one such run off..
“Avaleane!”

A total pageturner. I was sleepy when i picked up the book & was looking for a deep slumber after reading a few chapters but guess what, now i am wide awake!

There's magic & there are machines.
There are friendships but false loyalty too.
There are past secrets but a hopeful future.
There's confusion but promising trust.
There's adventure but bloodshed too.

I was rooting for Mordred throughout & was happy with the way the story ended. Not a closed ending though, but a hopeful one.
Can't wait for the sequel;

It is always too good to escape from reality and get lost into a world of Magic and Adventure. This book, The Malevolent's Mark written by Ripley Grimms for sure shifts the readers to a different level of fantasy world filled with magical elements.

The author has done a great job writing the whole story focusing on Birdie, a female protagonist. Birdie has been portrayed as a strong, brave and bold woman. There are a number of unique characters in this story which makes the whole read very interesting. One of the characters which I loved was Vivien, the commander of the Wardens. King Arthur and Merlin were quintessential and archetypal characters. The love triangle among Birdie, Mordred and Gawain literally makes us go mad as we don't know who is behaving real ! At any point of the story, we could not judge any characters as it may end up with completely an unexpected twist.

I was completely involved in reading this story which was set in the 1920s at Camelot. It focused on Birdie who lost her memory, could not remember her past, even her name. Inspite of all these issues, she tries to rob Sir Gawain, which eventually ends up in a sequence of undesirable and irrelevant incidents. Moreover, she was being followed by some people who reminded her of the Malevolent Mark. She is unable to remember anything and the story moves further with a number of twists and turns.

It is undoubtedly the best first sequel of the whole series. Every scene unfolds with some twists which would keep the readers engaged till the end. Each and every character in the story played their role very well. I would surely recommend reading this book if you are a YA Fantasy lover !

This book was a perfect escape for me to a world of adventure and magic! It is a thriller fantasy.

The story revolves around three main characters: Birdie, Gawain and Modred.
Birdie Smith is a siren thief operating in the 1920s. She can empty any pockets through her enchanting songs but has lost her memories.

She is on a heist to rob Sir Gawain, which unfortunately does not turn out as planned and the story follows with a chain of unfortunate events. She soon finds out that she had the Malevolent's mark. Once marked, only the Malevolent who cast the spell or death of either party could remove it.

Modered is a handsome traitor who can use his malevolent's mark to enslave the United Kingdom. Birdie soon finds herself in the Doorless tower and learns about her past.

Other side characters include Gwenn, Colin, King Regent, Lancelot etc. I personally loved the character of Birdie. She is confident, smart, stubborn and not someone you can easily manipulate. Hence, making her a strong female-lead.

I believe portraying is everything and the author did a commendable job. The plot is well presented. The characterization has been done well.

From the title to the narrating style, everything is perfect. On the whole, a well plotted and brilliantly executed novel. The story is so flawlessly weaved that it will hook you right from the beginning. The book was super enthralling and mysterious! It was definitely a page-turner for me!

I would definitely recommend this book to all the thriller-fantasy lovers. Cannot wait to read the next part of the book! ✨

Review

Sirens have always intrigued me and when I learnt that this book was about one, I tried to finish all other current reads and immediately picked this book up and I'm glad that this book didn't disappoint! And it has a love triangle(kinda) and if that doesn't convince you to read this book then read the whole review and be prepared to fall in love with The Malevolent's Mark!!

Set in the 1920's this book is the perfect fantasy novel, it has sirens, sassy heroines, forced marriage burglary, love triangle, sexual tension, gangs from underworld, etc. The book starts with Birdie Smith washing up on the shores of Camelot two years ago, this book is a bit jumbled because we're reading from Birdie's POV and she has amnesia so we piece her life piece after piece as the story progresses. She is a siren thief but she doesn't remember who or what sheer is obviously, but Mordred does!

This book was a delightful read as a lover of Arthurian literature this book was a perfect reprive from my constant swing between mythology and romcom (don't ask me why but somehow I fell into a loop) but this book was enchanting and the something new that intrigued me! The word building is great, the characters are very easy to fall in love with, the plot was beautifully crafted, the themes and setting was perfect for the novel and the writing style is easy to get into. A book that will have any fantasy reader hooked from the start!!

Malevolent's Memory can't come soon enough!!

Usually when I read books with the love triangle trope, it would nostly be easy for me to choose and pick sides. But with this book, I feel like a little girl in the ice cream place who can't make up her mind which flavor to get. One minute I love Gawain and hate Mordred, and the second I empathize and feel bad for Mordred. 😍🥺 And to be really honest, I haven't make up my mind til now.

The ending has also left me screaming: "Wait, whaaaaaatttt?" I did not expect the ending and the turn of events. While reading, I empathize with Birdie. I wasn't sure who to trust, who to believe and who to choose. It's writing is so powerful, it would leave your mind baffled with events. It was a roller coaster of a book. You get the ups and downs. The way the event unfold is like the twist in a rollercoaster, a part of you expects it, but it wouldn't hinder you from feeling the rush and excitement of the story. Another thing I love about this book is how strongly driven and unselfish the protagonist in the person of Birdie is. Imagine having been betrayed by your friend, but still wanting to save her. Also people might have led her to blame herself and torture herself with a memory of hurting the most special person in her life. Had called her a criminal, a thief- but under all that, she's Birdie Smith- a girl who just wants to keep her friend safe. 🥰😍🥺

So if you're planning to find a book that would hook you or take you out of a slump, this would be a great choice💯💯💯

Music is known to have an enchanting and mesmerizing quality to it and often we have heard retellings about how people found themselves getting lost in a melody.

However, Birdie, our main female protagonist from the book, ‘The Malevolent’s Mark’ by author Ripley Grimms, had a true blessing in the form of her alluring voice, which made people actually get lost in a total catatonic bliss.

This magical trance was enough of an opportunity for Birdie and her group to steal from them, which had therefore resulted in her earning the name, Siren Thief.

During one such assignment, Birdie comes face to face with Sir Gawain, the knight who had once been a prince and soon after, she discovers a secret about her true identity that will shake her to the core.

The author has done an excellent job of portraying a story which will make the readers root for Gawain, the supposed villain, even if there are few times when we can’t quite grasp his way of thinking.

The character of Birdie was well developed and had some many different shades. In the midst of her own identity crisis, she also had to deal with the imminent threat that kept looming, all the while carrying this immense guilt that she was responsible for a gruesome act against her loved one.

This was a nicely plotted book with a good and steady pace that had all the elements of a budding romance, enmity, drama, magic, thrill, mystery and suspense. Hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Malevolent's Mark by Ripley Grimms is an action packed fantastical life journey of Birdie Smith.

The story starts with a heist and we get to know that Birdie is a Malevolent. What is a Malevolent? A magical being? But used in derogatory terms?

The world building is so well done. Revealing a little piece in every sentence, page by page, hooking us in.

The fast paced story leads to chaos around the protagonist and keeps us engaged. What is her identity? Why is someone looking for her with a bounty but others want her to hide?

I loved the elements of this world. The 'Glassfeeds' used to read anything on. The different perception of magic. The mystery around the power of Malevolents.

Birdie as the protagonist was at first very attractive to me until she wasn't.. She's a thief on the run but shackled by the side of a wealthy and dangerous conman. She has nightmares at nights reminding of her long forgotten past.

She gets saved by The Traitor who is a disguised handsome man popularly known as the villain. And when he asks her to leave with him for he'll keep her safe from the Royal Guards, she turns him down!

Now, tell me how many times in your life do you get the opportunity to be saved by the villain who's willing to keep you safe? ALMOST ZERO. And this girl just flushed it away for no reason at all!

I loved the book. Everything was happening at the same time and yet the plot didn't end up like a scrambled egg but beautifully unraveled slowly.

“The Malevolent’s Mark” revolves around the protagonist Ms. Birdie Smith, a.k.a Avaleane Du Lac, who is an enchantress with a malevolent’s mark that gets animated under certain situations. Avaleane lost her memories after she had washed ashore and had believed herself to be Birdie ever since. Her past self was wanted by the antagonist of the plot, Mordred but her lost memories didn’t let her understand why. Sir Gawain and the knights rescue and take her to an unknown land of Avalon, on a journey to which Birdie discovers that she is yet another pawn to someone’s path to power. Will she figure out which side to take, that too in time? How will she escape the tug of war between Gawain and Mordred? The answers await! The characters have been impeccably developed, so well that it is easy for us readers to understand what is going on in their minds. I could go on and on about the author’s story-telling skills; each scene made me feel like I was watching a movie on the screen of my brain, the process this book has itself been quite an experience. The plotline-damn! So unique, so refreshing, it itched my brain in just the right way to quench my thirst of living in a fantasy world. I have tried my level best to find a bit or two of points that I would dislike, but to my surprise, I have found none. To all the fantasy lovers out there, do yourself a favour and grab a copy of this book, I promise you won’t regret!

Malevolent a term used for someone who wishes to do some harm to others. In this book malevolent is the term used to people with magic in their voice, enough to enchant everyone who hears the song. Enchantress, power bestowed on her by someone who can control her every move. Birdie Smith, or Avaleane Du Lac the protagonist is one of these people with barely any idea of her past and severe drinking problem. She works for Duncan who controls the flow of golenite by stealing it from the royals, and was a part of all the illegal stuff like racketeering, gambling, smuggling, drug dealing, whoring etc. I personally enjoyed the book. The idea of the book revolves around magic. As a fan of the Harry Potter series i loved reading the book. I am fascinated by the author's imagination and creativity. The unsure nature of the protagonist was sometimes funny but relatable. How she is so strong and yet so vulnerable makes me feel sorry for her but proud at the same time. The story has various twists and turns till the end which makes sure to keep you engaged throughout. Waiting for the next part as there are various questions left unanswered since this is only part one. The writing style was captivating and easy to follow. The cover of the book is beautiful and catchy. It's a must read for all the fiction and adventure lovers out there.

The Malevolent Mark
Musical fantasy is what I would describe this book as if I had to summarize everything about it in just two words. There is indeed a lot to say about it. Although I like reading fantasy novels, I am not always blown away by every fantasy novel I read but this one really stood out to me.

This is a world filled with magic and music. The story takes place in the 1920s. Our protagonist, Birdie, is robbing the royals with her team as she sings in her marvelous voice, causing the royals to lose focus on what is happening around her, enabling her team to commit theft. This is her profession, and everything was going well until she ended up robbing the wrong person

I appreciate the creative choice of author in this book. Throughout the whole book, there is a constant build up of suspense that leaves you wondering "what will happen next?". I really liked how every charterer has their own personality, and the author manages to maintain that throughout the book, which I really enjoyed

There are times when some authors don't bother to consider the personalities of the side characters or the ones that don't really have much to say, but Ripley Grimms makes sure to do so, which I really appreciated.

All and all I feel it’s a great book and every fantasy lover should go out or go online and by it right away and I just can’t wait for the second part to be out.

One of the amazing thrillers of recent times.

The story is about a Siren Thief, who was operating in 1920's. She is unable to remember anything about herself or her past. However, she tries her hand in robbery which ends up in irrelevant and unfortunate incidents. She is followed by certain people who claim that she is a chosen one and has a particular Malevolent Mark. Since she is unable to remember anything, she tries to help them to find Excalibur to save King Arthur. The story moves on with nail gripping twists and turns which are least expected.

The book has three main leads, the reader cannot set heart on one, each lead is desirable at different points of time. Sometimes we are in a dilemma of who is a positive lead, and who is negative. The shades of characters have been carved out brilliantly. The characters and the representation of different communities are the highlights which I loved.

On a whole the story is a magical fantasy, which is quite different from the regular thriller books we come across. Also special mention for the beautiful cover, which creates an interest for the readers like me who prefer thrillers anytime any day over the other genres. After reading the first part, now desperately waiting to pick the second one immediately.

Title: The Malevolents's mark
Author: Ripley Grimms
Genre: Mystery
Pages: 347

Being a fantasy book lover I was very excited to read this one. This book has dark secrets, mysteries, thriller and romance. Grimms did a great job when it comes to characterization. Each character is beautifully portrayed and plays a important role in the story. It felt great reading a story which was set in the 1920's.
This story focuses on Birdie who is a female protagonist. She is a strong & bold character with a Malevolent's mark. She was followed by a group of people reminding her of the Malevolent's mark as she couldn't remember it due to her lost memory. The love triangle of Birdie and the two brothers Gawain and Mordrad was very interesting. The love story of Birdie and Gawain has been expressed beautifully.
It has so many twists and turns and every scene unfolds a new twist keeping the reader engaged. From the beginning itself the story makes the reader curious and want them to jump to the end.
The language is easy to grasp, narration is beautiful, meaningful characters. Everything is up to the mark. Overall, it's a different book we don't get to read everyday.
A must read!

This book was such a wonderful and thrilling journey! I love the idea of taking an existing legend and weaving an innovative and entirely new story out of it. With hidden motives, long lost pasts, shifting loyalties and one rollercoaster of a journey, this book promises to entertain you!

There were so many amazing things in this story. The plot was gripping and the continuous plot twists that were unpredictable yet foreshadowed kept me hooked throughout. The writing was crisp and eloquent and made the book easy to read. The characters were a bit under developed at first but as the book progressed, I started understanding them a lot better. The first part of the book was a bit too fast paced for my own taste but after that it was stunning. And that ending was just the best thing the writer could've done to end this book.

A few things I didn't like were the worldbuilding. It could've been developed a lot more and I would've liked a deeper look into the magic system and the history of conflict. Mordred also seemed like a very conflicted character, and I'm still not sure what his motives are.

But overall this was a very interesting book and I'm glad I picked it up. If you like fantasy, magic, plot twists and angst, definitely read this book! Can't wait for the sequel :))

Things on thrill have always got a greater way of imposing engagement level for the readers. The way this one's built up by author with the portrayal of Birdie's character, I must say that story telling isn't just a simple art.

It's not actually the process in which author has narrated the story or has lined up the secrets alternatively, instead it's the key to epilogue which made me scroll through the pages patiently.

The language and narration is totally rich in class where as the pace is way much well maintained although there were a few sections where things were elaborated more than required.
It's a great grand read indeed for a long journey to be crossed.

Being intellectual is something different when compared to being dominant.
Super natural is a book which discloses how efforts on building up a thing, never leads to failure and if one decides to make things truly bright and powerful, there are ways to do so. The efforts and the search to find keys to puzzle and talks of singing sword, will all make the time worth it.
Liked the manner in which things are showcased right from the start.
Narration is well set with set of words new and appreciative indeed. Birdie is shown in different ways which makes the story revolve in multiple ways.
