Waiting for 2,000 years gets pretty lonely for Torken and all he wants is to find his mate. When he comes across a human female while helping Drakion, his hearts stop and he can't believe his luck. Hair as red as the darkest ruby and soft curves that begged to be explored, his mate is perfection.

With war looming and danger around every turn, he will keep her safe, no matter the cost. No one will take his sweet Adriel from his claws. He will fight if he has to and turn every dimension upside down to protect her.

Heart Throb is the second book in the Dimension Jumpers trilogy. With every dimension in peril, these males will do what they must to protect their mates.

Warning: This book contains mature content, death, dark scenes, and dimensions you just want to get lost in.

**UPDATE 12/21 — please check out *THIS POST* to stay informed on the similarities between this book and another book that I mentioned below.

This book inspired me to create a Goodreads account purely so I could leave a review — not because I wanted to gush over it, but because I needed to share my frustration and disappointment as a reader...

Let me preface this by saying that normally, I would feel bad about leaving this kind of negative review; however, it’s *pretty* apparent that this is VERY CLOSE to another book I've already read, and I felt compelled to share so other readers can be aware and make their own informed decisions. More on that later…

Ok, to actually begin, let me be frank: I initially DNF’d around 5% — I was immediately struck by the incorrect dialogue formatting and just overall poor grammar. I’m not usually a stickler for typos and incorrect grammar here and there (I acknowledge everyone is only human!), but this was just rampant and the *only* consistent thing about the grammar was that it was BAD. So bad, in fact, that it completely pulled me out of the story because every SINGLE line had something wrong with it. I really have a hard time believing that this was run through any edits... be it by an editor or by the author.

Below are some examples of incorrect dialogue (author decides to switch dialogue formatting every so often too, so at least you're kept on your toes!) — keep in mind that this occurs EVERY time somebody is speaking:

1) “You are excused." He said smugly.
Should be >> “You are excused,” he said smugly.
2) “Oh, and my dear?” He called out and I paused with my hand on the doorknob “Don’t fail me again.”
Should be >> “Oh, and, my dear?” he called out and I paused with my hand on the doorknob. “Don’t fail me again.”
3) “Well well. Look what I’ve caught in my trap.” she cackles.*
Should be >> “Well, well. Look what I’ve caught in my trap,” she cackles.*
**Also not to mention... the random changing of tenses from past tense to present tense??

Poor grammar, strange dialogue, and random tense switching aside (seriously… uh… what is going on here?), I also couldn't help but notice how much this reminded me of a book by a different author that I've read before... again, I initially DNF’d early on, but from the description and the arachnid alien species/political intrigue/concept of mating, it just seemed super similar. Eventually, because I was curious, I went back to skim more only to confirm how much this reminded me of Ensnared by Tiffany Roberts; albeit, without any of the great spice or intricate plot-lines.

In addition to just the general plot and storyline, there are other key items that to me feel uncomfortably familiar (maybe some minor tweaking):

1) Torken, calls his mate “Heartsthrob,” whereas Ketahn calls his mate “Heartsthread” in Ensnared
2) The Torrent here vs. The Tangle in Ensnared
3) A scene where a language barrier causes FMC to unfortunately "soil" herself in the "nest" since their mate can't understand, which requires them to be washed immediately afterwards
4) Torken weaves her a blanket out of his webbing, Ketahn weaves Ivy a dress out of his webbing
5) There is mentioned sex in trees (which, btw, is off-screen at BEST in this book… literally the line describing it was: “After passionate sex in a tree, he held me close and took me to the ground.”)
6) The blurbs on the book covers... "Fate bound them together and he will burn every dimension before letting those threads break." vs. "Their webs are entangled. No one will ever sever those threads."

Now, I know what you’re thinking: these are general concepts that might not necessarily raise any eyebrows on their own, but combined, these are ingredients to a recipe that is suspiciously similar to another I've consumed before.

Tallying everything up:

1) Poor grammar? Check.
2) Incorrect dialogue tag usage/low quality of writing in general? Check.
3) Suspiciously similar to another book? Check.

All of this culminates in my 1-star review, which reflects my extreme disappointment in this read. OH AND TO GO BACK TO THE OFF-SCREEN TREE MOMENT… this book doesn’t even deliver on what it promises! The description says “mature content” (which, to be fair, maybe *I* misinterpreted as meaning there will be sexy scenes), but spice? Where is it?

In all seriousness, if you’ve made it this far into my review (yay, thank you), PLEASE check out Ensnared and judge for yourself. It’s well-written and has some great spicy elements, again, both qualities of which I feel are absent in this book.

If you liked this book then you’ll LOVE Ensnared, since this is just a terrible copy of that. This author steals all of her ideas from others but isn’t that good at writing so it all reads like a middle schoolers fanfic. So if you’re intrigued by her characters just do a little digging and I’m sure you’ll easily find the original books that are actually worth reading.

I received an arc copy of this book. Here's my honest review.

It's a no from me. 😐

The book wasn't written very well. Did it go through an editor at all? A bit better than the first one though.

But you know what, I don't really mind the errors if the story is good. I'm so sorry to write this, but this book is a bad copy of Ensnared. It has so many similarities;

-Tangle / Torrent
-peeing in the nest
-going for a wash after the peeing
-the fierce dragon queen is feared in this Torrent
-the way he looks
-need I go on?

The story should have been crafted in a way to really encompass the idea of different dimensions, vampires, etc., but it felt like a plot that was not well thought out.

I expected a lot of spice based on what I've seen on booktok, but there's almost no spice here. At least I didn't feel it. I did like that part when she was naked climbing down the tree and he was below her and he just dove right in, now that was hot.

A thing that really bothered me; Adriel has a foul mouth. (And not in a good way.) I'm always expecting these heroines to make smart, sassy, time-appropriate comments but sadly a lot of them feel like they're just another girl but mated to this hot monster.

I'm hoping the next book is better, since Naga are one of my fav characters/species in Alien romance.

Just saw some of the news about this, and while I can't speak to how similar this is in content to the other book since I never read the other author's work (although I can confidently say from looking at the covers/descriptions/artwork side-by-side... yikes), I just tried to read this last night before all that other news came out... and also yikes.

Similar to my previous review, I don't know that the author really has a good grasp of the English language. Spelling errors, grammatical errors, changes in past/present tense, incorrect dialogue formatting, etc... this reminds me of my 3rd-grade creative writing class. But specifically the "WHAT NOT TO DO" examples.

The question of "Is this too similar to another author's books?" aside, the QUALITY of this writing is just astoundingly bad, and that's something that I don't think is talked about enough. It kind of feels like the author is making you pay for a rough draft, which is icky. If this were a movie, the IMDB page of goofs would be longer than the book itself, and what I could string together from this Swiss cheese plot was just... not good. The smut is terrible... like referring to this book as spicy would be an insult to chili peppers.

So, yeah. Feeling #blessed that I have KU, because this would be another automatic return to get my money back for something of this poor quality if I'd had to purchase this.

And again, I'm not an authority on idea lifting given that I didn't read the book series that this has been compared to... but judging how similar her other book I read (Frostbite) was to IPB, I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Once a crook, always a crook. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

Poor Quality Ripoff of Tiffany Roberts ensnared spider series, down to the artwork. This author tried to use all the same exact artists and artwork as Tiffany Robert too. Unoriginal and pretty much plagiarism. Just read the original series by Tiffany roberts that this author copied. Much better. (This author even continuously consulted with Tiffany Roberts to copy them before they were blocked)

Quite sad that an author feels the need to blatantly copy someone else’s work.

(Before I get to my review, I have a few things to say)

I find it funny and pitiful that readers have the AUDACITY to come at an amazing authors neck for nothing!! This 'she plagiarized' bullshit needs to stop!! First off, there are probably a MILLION different books that have ARACHNID (spider men) species as a base plot, so there is NO WAY in hell that two stories from two very different authors could remotely be the same. Second off, these hate comments and reviews are no doubt from non-authors who have no freaking idea how hard it is to write an entire book series!! If having similar FANTASY species in her book counts as "Plagiarizing" then I challenge those haters to go to every best selling author who have the same species in their books and tell them that it's 'plagiarizing' I bet a million dollars that they won't!!!!!

Writing is meant to heal and escape reality, for us authors who love to escape our day to day lives. But hearing hate comments and slander for our work is sickening and NEEDS TO STOP!!! You can come at me if you want, I won't back down. I won't stop fighting and protecting authors who are getting hate for no God damn reason.

(Now onto my review)
For me, Melissa wrote a fantastic story of steamy love and survival!! The characters pulled me into their world and made me fall in love with the idea of monster fudging. I totally have a Arachnid kink now, and I'm not ashamed of admitting that!! Her story meant the world to me, and is inspiring me to write my own Arachnid story!!!!

Keep up the amazing work Melissa!!!! XOXO

Read this ages ago but I hate leaving 1 star reviews so I delayed this until a couple of different people shared about this issue.

I was on a spider alien kick after read Tiffany Roberts Ensnared series, (Basically read every spider alien/monster book I could get my hands on) and the blatant copying of Ensnared I saw in this was disappointing. I will never read anything by this author purely for that fact, and also because they are stalking TR.
The peeing of the nest thing? The same. Except gross because he also... licks it? EW!
Heartsthread and Heartsthrob? So similar.
The tease of calling him a spiderman (spidey)? WTH?
Both have 2 hearts? (RL spiders only have 1, so why did she copy even that?)

I don't know if the author has made adequate changes to fix this OBVIOUS copying issue since I read it, because I'm not going to read this again just to check.

I was thrilled to see Torken find his mate, see his character fleshed our more. You learn more about Adriel in book 2 as well, including her secret!

The story didn't feel as rushed this time. We learn more about Torken's and Drakion's dimension, and the war on the horizon. A fun, spicy, quick read overall.

This book pulled me in so fast and refused to let me go! Every page seemed to pull me deeper into my thoughts until the pages played out in my mind.
Melissa Blincoe has done an incredible job of writing yet again another fantastic furturistic fantasy that will stay with me for ages.

So I read this book in one sitting lol I couldn’t put it down! Here’s just some of the things I love about this book. The dual POV! I really enjoy seeing both sides of the story. In the beginning Adriel only had herself to depend on and as her feelings developed for torken she was able to lean on him more I know that was a relief for her in a way. And as for torken! I would go to war for him too! Lol one minute he’s cutting peoples heads off with no second thought, and then weaving a blanket and carrying you cuz your feet hurt. All he wants to do is “take care of you” then the next the man is tying you up talking about screaming his name. 😂 I’m here for all that! ♥️ I definitely want a hardcover to add to my collection I really did enjoy this. What I would of liked to seen more of is when torkens father gave up his life for him I would of liked to of seen his realization and healing with the words his father spoke to Adriel. And how we got to the very last scene. But maybe I just wanted more lol. I can’t wait for the next one and see how the war goes and how much more torken and Adriel’s relationship blossoms.

🕷️ “For you I would burn the world to the ground and claim you on the smoldering ashes.”
~~~
Torken is one magnificent male! He’s strong, honorable, loyal and powerful. And he’s been through a lot and lost so much. I absolutely loved his possessive and dominant side. Even more, I loved his fierce protectiveness and his determination and willingness to sacrifice everything to keep and take care of his mate. He’s amazing and I absolutely adored every single thing about this Arachnid!
And Adriel is the perfect match for him! She’s Alex’s best friend and quite the badass. I loved how brave, kind and compassionate she was. Even more, she’s stubborn and reckless and has a really dangerous job. And she’s keeping a lot of dangerous secrets. But what I loved most about her was that she was not afraid to stand up for herself no matter who she was facing and that she was so strong when difficult choices needed to be made. I loved her so much!
Everything that happened between Torken and Adriel was fantastic. He’s been stalking her for weeks and she was sent to assassinate him. And from the very first moment they met, their chemistry and attraction were undeniable. Their road to happiness was quite the bumpy one and both had to deal with a lot. But when they finally gave in to their feelings, the passion they shared was off-the-charts hot. Those two were so perfect for each other and I loved every step of their journey towards happiness and love.
In addition, the worldbuilding and the storyline were fantastic. All the dimensions were spectacular - as beautiful and colorful as they were dangerous. Even more, the unexpected turns of events and the suspense kept me glued to the packages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another marvellous addition to the series. It’s filled with fast-paced action, danger, twists, drama, suspense, unexpected discoveries, scorching hot romance and magnificent characters.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
**I received this book as an ARC from the author in an exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own.**
Torken was my favorite in Heart Flame, and I am so glad to have gotten to read his story. Torken is a sweet and loyal Arachnid who has been waiting so long to finally meet his mate and when he does, he isn't going to let her go. Adriel is a spitfire who is just trying to get by, by being an assassin but when her job leads her to Torken her world is turned upside down. Torken and Adriel's interactions and chemistry is amazing right off the bat. I love that they are totally themselves with Torken being all in right away but Adriel being a bit more hesitant at being someone's mate. She does come around and it's spicy but also sweet that they care for each other so much.
The rest of the story fell a little flat for me. I felt that the plot was a bit rushed and just didn't quite hit me the way it did in Heart Flame. Since this book had a little bit more of a slow burn spice wise, I was looking for the story to keep me entertained in the meantime, but I just wasn't as invested in anything else happening besides Torken and Adriel's relationship. Even saying all that I would like to know what is going to happen next.
Overall, I liked this book and if there is more in this world then I would be very interested in reading it. It was a fun and quick read.
I devoured the first book in this series! It kept my attention and I couldn't wait to read about everyone and everything. I'm unsure if it's because this is a whole new genre for me off if it's that and the book was so interesting. It did have a few bumps but it was so good.
This book however, fell a little short. It might just be me but the constant repeat of "Heart Throb" was a bit of a turn off. I don't mind when movies or books mention their title but I felt this one kept repeating it. I would've liked to see it a couple times then other pet names or something like "every time I look at her my heart throbs with...." I don't know. The adventure also felt a little rushed. I would've liked the"behind the scenes" of the rescues. Like what was Alex, Drakion, Adriel and/or other important characters doing while Torken was in chains?
However, I will still read every book in this series because they are a really good read! They're short, sweet and spicy! A great book snack combination!
This follow up to Heart Flame was electric. I felt more connected to the characters and was able to dive into the world more readily. Book 1 walked so that Book 2 could run!
Torken and Adriel were such a perfect pair. There was an instant connection of being fated mates but still it held that perfect tension.
I enjoyed the plot of this one way more, but parts of the story felt reused and the flow of the story seems a bit clunky at points.
The spice had me reeling though! It didn’t dominant the plot and we were definitely teased with it way more this time round. But the build to the inevitable was 100% worth it!
Overall it was a quick and easy read that you didn’t have to think through much. I can’t wait to see what she does with the rest of the series and I’m hoping my theories are proven right.
Read the first book in this series, and thus far, Torken is my favorite male character so far tho I'm thinking that will change when the next book comes out! There are times when he does things that really question what goes on in his head (when you read it, you will know)! I cannot recommend not only this book but this series enough! You truly feel for the characters but it will definitely make you laugh! Bonus HEA is always a lovely touch when you need a sweet pick-me-up during your week! READ THIS SERIES!
I waited for this book to come out and I was not disappointed! A wonderful story from start to finish. It kept me laughing, sighing, and hoping the whole way through. The heroine was relatable and the hero was lovable! I can’t wait for the 3rd book. I highly recommend this series. It’s got a little less spice than the last book but still spicy 🌶🌶🌶
I sadly wasn’t into this book. I found it kind of boring and I dislike the female main character. I get that she didn’t know or wasn’t her fault being who she was, but I just couldn’t get over it. I do like the male main character. He is super sweet and he made this book bearable for me but it still wasn’t one of my best reads . I will probably not be reading 3.
The plot as whole is a good concept, but I felt it was a little hard to follow (this could be because I haven’t read book 1). There is a few chapters written from the male character’s perspective that seem like a bunch of different thoughts were piled together and don’t flow together or really get brought up later. For this book being advertised as spicy it lacked a little on the spice.
