Dhaayam - Such an exciting story. My first thought was, why did Kamal Hassan make this edge-of-the-seat story complicated as Aalavandhan? Dhaayam is much more structured, and Nandu is unpredictably cold in this story. The only point of contention is that I could easily sense the influence of the Sigappu Rojakkal movie in this story. Besides this thought, the things that raised questions when I watched Aalavandhan in 2001 were not there in Dhaayam. This story didn't require a budget like Aalavandhan, but like Nala Damayanthi, Kamal Hassan could have held onto the story by changing the protagonist. One thing is certain, Kamal Hassan is too big a shoe to fill, and the decay witnessed in this regional space stands testimony to that.
