Claire Boston fell in love with romance and romantic suspense at eleven when she discovered her mother’s stash of Nora Roberts novels. Like Nora, she writes series set around families or groups of friends with a guaranteed happy ending.
She loves travelling and learning about new cultures and interesting vocations which she then weaves into her writing.
When Claire’s not at the computer typing her stories she can be found creating her own handmade journals, swinging on a sidecar, or in the garden attempting to grow something other than weeds.
Claire lives in Western Australia with her husband, who loves even her most annoying quirks and is currently learning how to knit.
Jamie and Elijah are attracted to each other but Jamie's family and close friends only know he's bi and Elijah is open that he's gay. Elijah hears something he shouldn't have and now there's someone who want him out of the way. Jamie wants to keep Elijah safe but is he willing to let the town know what he feels for Elijah. I really enjoyed this book.
Although the author discloses the book is set in Australia with appropriate slang, I was leery about reading it when it referred to First Response practices and the different emergencies the characters in which they were involved. It turns out it wasn't an issue to follow, but rather made it more interesting. The story is also about facing your fears and the unwarranted misconceptions regarding the LGBTQ community. I loved the characters and the author did a good job telling their stories. The mystery and suspense could have been written a little better.

I really enjoyed this second book in the series! I wasn't lost ever since I haven't read the first (I will now). The only part that was hard was reading the "dialogue" at first, then I fell into it. Nicely. I've shelved this as romance, because as far as I'm concerned, love is love. No labels are needed. The author keeps the pace throughout the story and there is some great tension at times.

Loved it! This nearly new to me Aussie author (I've read and loved What Goes on Tour) is now well and truly on my radar. Enjoy reading relatable novels, and I always get that with Australian authors who write characters and places that are so familiar it's like I know them!
Great read situated in a small West Australian town where out and proud Elijah and closeted bisexual Jamie are both volunteers with the State Emergency Services (all volunteers are legends!), there's a heap more going on in this town than whether Jamie's teaching career and social standing in the small town would suffer any with a gay relationship with Elijah. The town has already seen some trouble (I need to catch up with book #1) and there's still some unwelcome criminals hovering around town, stealing cars and pointing guns. I loved Jamie's family, all of their friends and Elijah and Jamie together were perfect!
Definitely wanting to read some more from this series and author.
This is the first book I've read by this author. I really enjoyed it. I liked the Australian setting and learned a little about the emergency services and education system. Jamie Zanetti is bi-sexual. His parents and close friends know but he's afraid to let the world know because of some things that happened when he was a child. He's always been attracted to Elijah Johnson who is out and proud. They volunteer together at ESS and have friends in common. When they start to see each other, Jamie wants to keep it quiet. Elijah gives him a couple of weeks to figure it out. But, Jamie steps outside his comfort zone and lets everyone know he's dating Elijah. As he feared there is an incident which could harm him professionally. But, he decides to live the life he wants with Elijah. The other part of the story is that Elijah heard something he shouldn't have and someone is following him. The suspense portion of the story was handled well but I felt was secondary to the romance.
The second book in the First Response series a well written M/M story. This is set in Blackbridge, Western Australia and is Jamie Zanetti a teacher and Elijah Johnson who both work for the volunteer emergency service. There is suspense, drama, danger, attempted murder, and two men who are finally expressing their feelings. This is the first book by this Author I have read. I have now bought the first book and I want to read the next book also in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Shield is the second book in the First Response by Claire Boston and is just as exciting as the first book, Shelter. Shield has a delightful romance and great suspense. Jamie and Elijah make a loving and believable couple. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in the series. Congratulations to Claire Boston.
