A sweet and funny short from Rune and Brand's childhood, in their governess' POV. Hopefully, the first of many more to come, because even though I don't like to read about children, these two are amazing together even as toddlers. I also loved the glimpse of
Obviously, this is chronologically set before the first book in the series, and there are no spoilers, but I think it would be best enjoyed after book 1. It makes it easier to appreciate some nuances in the characters' personalities and their interactions, as well as the humor in the POV's character comments.
This short story is set before The Last Sun, but it would probably be best for first time readers to read it after TLS, but it's really up to you. There're no spoilers here, just baby Rune and baby Brand being adorable and formidable in their own special, unique way. 🥰 I also enjoyed seeing others of the Sun Court
Anyway, this was short but filled with adorableness and I really hope we get more glimpses like this of Rune's and Brand's childhood. 😍
This little glimpse about baby Brand and baby Rune is a delight. I especially loved to see that little bit about Lord Sun, Rune's father, and the kind of man he was. It was perfection how he treated Brand as his own, and loved Brand for who he was, not for what magic has made of him. And seeing how the teacher treated Brand and his bond with Rune, that says a lot about him. I hope whoever killed him and deprived us of him would pay dearly.
The Separation was just a cute little story from Rune and Brand’s childhood…toddlerhood? Anyway. It was really cute and I would love to see more of the chaos that these two caused as small children because you know it had to be legendary. I loved this and it’s getting a solid four stars as well!
It was super interesting to see baby Rune and Brand and how strong their companion bond is. What I really wanted was more Runes father but that will have to be for one of the later works I bet. I want to know more about the people who lived on the estate cause they seemed to care about Rune, Brand, and respect Rune's father.
He said, “I’ve learned to pick them up at the same time. The one who gets lifted first always cries, at least until the other is picked up as well. It is a strong, strong bond."
Truer words have yet to be said, Lord Sun! This was cuteness overlord and kind of gives me the idea that being a fly on the wall to most of the boys childhood would be a warm, fuzy blast :)
Definitely cute short. Baby Rune! Baby Brand! ... though I wondered how that "instructor" managed to get through vetting. How in the world did he imagine that Lord Sun would approve of that idiocy?
2nd reading edit: I am re-reading these by sharing them aloud with my husband. He thought this was kind of fun and was ready for me to try the whole series on him. I told him to buckle up!
This made my heart all warm and fuzzy. I love that K.D. Edwards has captured such a poignant happening in the lives of young Brand and Rune. The already formed bond is clearly something to be reckoned with. I love this series.
Usually short stories are just too... short to feel worthy of 5 stars. But I really appreciated how, in just 4 pages, this story succeeded at so many things--showing us a glimpse of life before the fall of the Sun Court, with Brand & Rune's characters already well established as barely toddering babies. A bad guy to love to hate, brought to good comeuppance. And a bunch of little laughs.
Hilarious, short (4 pdf pages), and very sweet. Best enjoyed after getting into the series (ex. after reading book 1) so you have a feel for the characters. You can find it along with the other short Tarot Sequence stories on the author’s website under Menu > Extra Content, or at this link: https://kd-edwards.com/extra-content/
So damn cute!! We got a few glimpses of them in The Hanged Man too but this tidbit shows us how powerful and tightly bonded these two were even as babies. Brand showing his affection for Rune at any age makes me simply melt. I want more Baby Brand and Baby Rune!!!
Very, very cute, all four pages of it. I would also like to throw in my bid for this to be expanded by about four hundred pages. I'm thinking it'd be something like Tiny Toon Adventures, except with substantially more things being set on fire.
It was really short but I really liked it. I could have kept reading more. I already know they have a bond (I stopped on page 20 something when I saw a novella 🤣) but I think this helps to see how strong it is.
A cute story, but very short (free, so I'm not upset about it being short). It really is too short to add much and I would recommend reading it after the first book in the series so it makes more sense.
