There’s only one word to describe the devil’s kiss. Violent. There’s only one word to describe a hunter who locks lips with the most revered, most feared, and most despicable demon to have ever existed. Traitor.
A hunter and the Devil. It’s not just an unlikely pair. It’s an impossible one. Add his two henchmen to the mix and there’s only one word that spells. Disaster.
I am Melody Black. Daughter of the New York Guild’s leader. Daughter of the best hunter to have ever existed. But daddy dearest is about to lose his title. He’s conquered a lot, but the one thing he has never done is come face to face with Lucifer himself.
Now, here I am, standing with the King of Demons, sword palmed, stance perfected. There is only one thing left to do. Defeat him.
There is only one feeling meant to be felt. Rage. Instead, desire rips through my body, and even though Lucifer doesn’t touch me, I can feel him everywhere.
I am the hunter, but I am also the hunted. And it’s not just Lucifer who has his dark eyes fixated on me.
Hunting Darkness is a #whychoose demons and devils paranormal romance, featuring your favorite demon, Lucifer and his devilish henchmen. Oh, and of course, the queen of all strong female leads and renowned demon hunter, Melody Black. No cheating. No cliff hangers. And even with the dark paranormal romance elements, you'll still get your HEA.
The characters were pretty well fleshed and the bloodthirsty psychopathic behavior of Melody was entertaining. But while there was no any instalove, the romance was a bit too much of a fast burn for my taste, so were the story and plot; too many things happened, too quickly.
I received an Arc for this but between the time of finishing and the book going live I’ve forgotten pretty much everything. I should start writing stuff down I know
From what I do remember this was an enjoyable read! If you’re sick of the academy style RH this is a little different with an UF feel and a heroine who knows her way around a sword. She’s a demon hunter but ironically ends up being protected by 3 demons who are trying to save the world. One of the demons is the big bad Lucifer himself, one is the quiet but soft inside “tank” and the other is a funny playboy with an attitude. These demons aren’t the bad guys though and Melody is quickly having her mind changed about demons being the bad guys she’s been brought up to believe. Not for lack of trying mind you.
My biggest criticism would be I didn’t really understand why Lucifer decided to share Melody. The “reason for the harem” is lacking. Not that I would want it to be any other way than harem but I want a little reasoning behind it.
It’s medium burn and it is a fated mates but there are plenty of firsts to come in book 2 and I was really happy with the ending. I’m excited to see where it’ll go after certain developments at the end.

Some of the Demons in this book were really how you expect them but the Main Demon Characters were quite human with some demonic flaws. The Heroin thinks she is human with some special abilities. And the whole story is the trope fight between the good and the bad guy with a twist: is the bad guy really the bad guy, if he tries to be good? And is the good woman a good one, when she tries to kill of a lot of other being ruthlessly?
It was a short read and entertainment factor was okay, so it’s a 3 stars read.
This was okay. Pretty generic paranormal RH. I have it a shot because I'm a fan of books where Demon's are the good guys, and it was just about entertaining enough.
The main trouble was that Melody was a total bitch. Not a tough as nails on the outside, but secretly not, sort of bitch, just a plain old arrogant bitch. There wasn't an awful lot of deep characterisation going on with her either, so the reasons why she is such an arrogant bitch weren't really explored.
The men were okay, and the chemistry was good at times, but again, it was all very surface and the overarching plot was wrapped up way too quickly.
I love Melody. I love her inner strength and I love her backstory. I hope to learn more about her. This series has so much potential! I devoured the words. It was a great read and I truly enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more about this series. I love the world building so far and the men are shaping up to be very....yummy. I mean this Lucifer is pretty smokin' I can't wait for the next book, I hope we get to explore more of the relationship. I love second books in the series because we get more of the men's stories and less resistance to the attraction and they work on the relationship. This is a book that I will be re-reading just because I want to.
The writing, plot, characters, pace, and lack of chemistry made me angry in the worst possible way.
Let's start with the heroine.
Ha.
First off, she doesn't deserve the title of heroine.
Melody black is not a strong female lead. She is not a kick-ass heroine. She is not a role model.
Melody Black is an absolute brat. A whiny bitch. A child with a temper-problem.
She is the least likable MC I ever remember reading.
This was one of those "Hey, I'm at like 8% and I really want to DNF, but instead I'm going to power through and watch the trainwreck happen anyways. Why? I don't freaking know" books.
I didn't even understand the chemistry...or lack there of. There was no actual tension. Seeing amusement in a guy's eyes and thinking tons of thoughts about it isn't tension. There was no build up. I wasn't rooting for them. There was no reason for Melody to fall for those guys, or for them to fall for her. I love the mate angle in books, but this was just so poorly executed that it came off as really shallow. I'm mad at the guys for not running far, far away from Melody, because despite how bland they were...nobody deserves to end up with that girl.
I think it says enough when readers have difficulty deciding who has less redeeming qualities between the heroine and the girl who's supposed to be the "mean girl."
It just feels like this was written by someone who wanted to have a "strong" female "stick it to the man", but the author completely spaced on including any redeeming qualities along with the "don't call me bitch, bitch" attitude. Also, the only problem I have with cursing is when it's overused or just awkwardly used. I cringed during chapters when Melody was being "tough", because the cursing felt overdone and misplaced, and she just had so many unflattering chapters (cough all of them).
Sorry for the rant. I'm mostly pissed I spent time reading this, but I'm done venting now. Just wanted to warn others.
I really enjoyed this start to a new series and a different take on the Lucifer story, and boy is he hot! I like that Lucifer is one of the central characters to the story for once. If you like no nonsense kick ass females with a fantastic potty mouth and more than one love interest then this is the book for you.
Melody is a Demon Hunter, the best Demon Hunter actually, but when one of her friends goes missing she goes off on her own to figure out what happened. That leads to Melody meeting the biggest baddest demon out there, and her whole world changing.
This book was really good. I enjoyed the heroine a whole heck of a lot. She was fierce, and totally awesome! I look forward to more.
Now that is a great start to a new series. I want Lucifer. Never thought I would ever say that. Author did a fantastic job writing this story. I seriously want more. Story kept me captivated right from the beginning. But really why did book have to end!!! Can't wait to see where this story goes next. Loved it!!!
Thoroughly addicting start to a new series!! Melody is a seriously kick a** MFC! When attempting to locate a missing hunter, she comes face to face with Lucifer, and before long, everything she thought she knew, has changed!! I couldn’t stop reading until I’d reached the end, but now I have to wait for book 2. Read it...you’re gonna love it!
While there was nothing cute about this book, there was something undeniably sweet... despite the fact it features demons, angels, Lucifer, demon hunters and a kick@ss FMC. All that aside, there was something, dare I say, wholesome in the whole approach? I mean, beyond the fact that he’s the king of demons and brutal with a sword, I never got the ‘evil’ vibe from the evilest thing ever made. Interesting approach.
~ First person, single POV, slow burn for harem, medium burn for singular action, MMMF, HFN
Pros: - Fun - The guys are unique and oddly approachable - FMC has a chip on her shoulder and less humanity than most, but she’s still easy to like.
Cons: - Bit predictable - Needs the editing tightened up, it’s not horrible, but mistakes were notable.
I absolutely loved this! Hunting darkness had me from page one. I enjoy a good demon story and I honestly think this series is going to be at the top of all time favorite demon stories!! We have a strong female lead in Melody. Who is one of the best demon hunters out there. She works for the guild, having grown up there with her father who runs it. Which by the way I am not a huge fan of her father and you will find out why. When hunters go missing she takes it upon herself to go and try to find them as her friend is one of the ones missing. On her investigation she made three demons. Lucifer and his two right hand men. The chemistry between them all is off the charts! They team up to find the missing hunters, while Lucifer is trying to find out who is killing the demons. Hunting darkness was a fast pace read that was over way too soon for me. I really need book to like right now!!
I couldn't put out down!! It was a book that changes your thoughts on the stereotype of angels are good and demons are bad.
I love Melody! She's so badass but my only negative is that she cab come across as an asshole. But hey, no one is perfect. Lucifer, Brofus and Merlidon support the Melody's character beautifully, with their different personalities.
Such a great book! I'm excited to read the next!!!
I really thought this book was awesome. I loved how Melody keeps her stance on her beliefs and how the boys dont force things to change her mind they just show her, not that she has changed her mind she has just openes up and broadens her thinking. To me the characters are well suited and fit together, i will waiting not so patiently for the next one.
Our Heroine is spunky, stubborn, and an all around General BA. Though like every good story, there is always more than meets the eye. I finished this book and am ready for the second! The concept had me hooked from the blurb and it definitely transcended into a good read. The relationship building and the secrets that are still to be unveiled have me ready for more! It’s a great start to a promising series.
Omg seriously AMAZING book I cant wait for book 2 I absolutely loved the characters. This book made my laugh and have the feelings I definitely recommend hunting darkness!!!
Melody is such a tough girl haha, strong and all around awesome. I'm curious about where the story will go with her 'family' and to see her relationships with Lucifer and 2 of his high commanders will develop further...and I want to know more about the angels and what's going on there
A kickass MC and three delicious demons? Sign me up. I enjoyed reading this book, it had a lot of different elements that were brought together nicely at the end of the book.
That was really good! I like the surprises in the story.. I liked the flow of the books story ..very excited to see what comes about in the second book
La protagonista me pareció bastante insoportable la mayor parte del libro aunque en la mitad mejora su actitud un poco; aún así es una buena historia y se lee rápido.
Sin embargo, los indicios de harén no me convencen ni me gustan mucho.
I enjoyed this book, it doesn't quite feel like a four star for my rating system but it is definitely above a three. So my rating is 3.5.
The characters in this book are really well done. Melody is a really refreshing character, she is not your typical female lead she is full of blood lust, has a fairly violent nature, is impulsive and prickly. Lucifer is typical in the sense that he is has more moral than expected but it still a good character and a little soft at times. I love Brotus, the dark and mysterious with while respectful and a wee bit gentle at times. Which I thought played really well with the fact he is King Arthur.
I would have liked a little bit more dialogue and relationship building but I understand the lack of it, to a degree, being such a short book.
I enjoyed the romance of the book but I do have one dislike, which is the fact that Melody went from being interested but fighting it to full-blown ’I'm so happy’ after sex. I suppose this goes hand in hand with my previous comment as to the relationship building.
The story was well paced for a short book and had action which progressed the storyline. I would have liked to have seen a little more from the other characters in the battles/fights. I do feel like the ending could have been a little better with a little more mystery and suggestion to the other book.
I will say though the beginning is very long-winded and a little unnecessary. Melody doesn't leave her building really until you reach 25% of the book. I found there to be a lot of unnecessary detail at the start.
Overall this was a good easy read and I enjoyed it and I will be reading the next book.
The characters in this book are so well-written, even the baddies are likeable in their own way. I liked the mystery surrounding the missing hunters, it kept me guessing which is awesome!
This book was a very nice surprise and another great discovery. I have never read either one of the authors before, but I am hundred percent sure that I most certainly will in future. The authors presented a new fresh perspective on demons, angels and demon hunters. There is no black and white, absolute evil or absolute good but the agenda various parties are pushing. Prejudice, indoctrination, and zealous behaviour, are what dominates this series. However, somewhere out there, where you least expect it, there is love, there is loyalty, and there is compassion. The authors did a fantastic job on plotting this series, developing the characters and building the world over two realms (with a hint of the third). Melody, the main character, is the daughter of the Guild Leader, and one of the best, if not the nest demon hunter out there. She is full of anger, she is driven, she is cold and distant, and she rarely obeys the rules. All is well in her life until her best friend goes missing and she discovers that the only way to find her is the unlikely and forbidden alliance with the very demons she is sworn to hunt and kill. Obviously, very little goes as planned and the unexpected twists and turns bring about the shocking ending, which is way too close to home. This was a fast paced, high octane action story, which I read in one breath and immediately went onto the next book. I loved every moment of it. The story continues in Hunting Light (Demon Hunter #2).
So our female protagonist is an elite demon hunter whose father Mr. Black just happens to run the guild she’s apart of in NYC.
I have to be honest she’s not a very likeable character, I get the push people away so you never get hurt thing but it gets annoying. Her father has never been a father to her, her only friend is killed and then she finds out why she’s always been so different (she’s literally 50% something else.
I’m all for reverse harems but so far it’s not making sense for this story. Don’t get me started on the fact that the devil apparently was the first human & not a fallen angel & his two best friends are high ranking demon because they were humans who found magical items, 🤦♀️ sorry but this is kinda stupid to me. Plus the fact that they need to feed off of humans life energy to live or they die. This book made the devil seem very weak. It’s disappointing.
There’s something up with the guy at her work that has a crush on her and she’s always blowing off.
The one behind the disappearing hunters & demons ends up being an angel but not just any angel (one who use to be a demon but reincarnated as an angel 🤦♀️) again this seems to easy and stupid to me. Oh but there’s more she’s someone important to her yet she has to kill her & she warns her “ if you cut the head off the snake, two more will grow in its place”
