Pherall Maurice is a fugitive. Her crime? She encountered Uno, the uncatchable Immortal. Of course, she had no idea, but the militant Jackboots don’t believe her. They say he’s dangerous. They’ll kill her to prove it. Now, she’s on the run and off the grid, and the authorities are the bad guys. The Jackboots are relentless, and a greedy billionaire will stop at nothing to capture her. He wants to live forever and thinks Pherall is the key to his success.
This book is fast-paced and action-packed but will still make you laugh. I believe this novel is suitable for people who enjoy strong male characters, tons of action, and supernatural elements. It is good for women, but is is also a great story for men!
Spoiler-Free Summary The story follows Pherall Maurice, a girl who accidentally gets swept up by a group of men with secrets and powerful enemies. She must give up every bit of her old life because there is no going back. She was drawn to this group for a reason she doesn’t know, and now, she must survive with them.
Characters Uno, Cinco, Blue, and Ocho have gone through unimaginable losses and have decided never to let anyone else into their world. Then enters Pherall, who has nowhere else to go after a chance meeting that caused her life to crumble. Her presence slowly changes their outlook on life, and the boys begin to appreciate their lives as they go through their journey. There is a slight love story between Pherall and one of the boys (No Love Triangle!), which demonstrates the growth within the group after her arrival.
World The world-building is relatively simple as this book is very character-driven, with a chase being the driving action. They must protect their own, find other immortals like them, and never get caught. The action and characters are a solid part of the book and allow for a very enjoyable read.
I would recommend this book to people looking for authors with a bold and brilliant writing style and traditional aspects. Overall it is a thrilling and exciting story.
Life was normal for Pherall till after the movie theater…Because of one man, her life would change completely.
“Immortals: The First Ten” is a new book by D.C. Sargent. It could be ranked third in line with the “Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins and the “Maze Runner” series by James Dashner. Sargent is an excellent writer and captures her readers attention very well with her details, character emotions, etc. This book however, is not for the faint of heart. The main character, Pherall finds herself fighting for justice but also her life in running from a tyrannical government who is on the run to find every Immortal being and kill them…after their experimentations of course. Join Pherall and the Immortals in their beginning and their fight to stay alive and escape the clutches of death.
