Into You #2

In His Eyes

Rate this book
Unrequited crush? I've been there. Done that. Over it.

Ian Chambers is a rule bending, teasing, accidentally make-you-fall-for-him kind of man. And I want nothing to do with it, thank you very much.

Our company’s in-house lawyer has been my human resources nightmare for nine years. When he quit eight months ago, I thought I was finally rid of him.

But when I'm invited to a destination wedding as a bridesmaid and he's the best man in every sense of the word, it's not as easy to pretend he doesn't exist. And this week, he's dead-set on getting my attention.

If he looks at me with that cocky grin and those piercing eyes one more time, I might lose control.

Ian Chambers can flirt with me as much as he wants, but I refuse to fall for his tricks.

Again.

It was a moment I’d never imagined would happen to me, and it happened with her.
Sometimes you just have to be patient.
For a whole decade.
Actually, that’s horrible advice.
Be patient for a reasonable amount of time.
Or simply be a fool in love.

Was it the best?
Uhhh idk.
Felt like there were too many people from the other books but i was proud because i recognized them tho.
Also idk filler chapters and present past jumps but heyyyyyy it made the whole book what it is and I'm just being a whiny bitch.

BUT NEVERTHELESS.
Let me tell you how cute-

Ian (H) was a sunshine
Nia (h) wont a say a grump but kinda a grump and had a strong dislike for Ian.
My man leaves his job FOR her because he loved her and he didn't date co-workers so he left the job so he could be with her all those years ago.
Nia fucks up and does this whole big public apology on karaoke on the song "tequila" where she apologized on the music and sings just one word which is well...tequila.

Plot felt lacking
And everything was just not hitting as hard as it should.
But okay.

hello 2023

🤪 not so meet cute
🏢 workplace romance (sort of)
✨ forced proximity
🌴 destination (miami lmao) setting
😈 enemies to lovers
😤 reverse grumpy/sunshine
💬 miscommunication trope
🌶️ yes! late in the game tho

ian was a lawyer at treasuries inc. and nia is the hr manager. they worked together for 9 years, and they always pressed each other’s buttons (in a fun i have a crush on her so i’m gonna grade her way). ian quit 8 months ago, and they reunite and their pals’ wedding in miami where they are both part of the bridal party. what happens when they’re stuck on this road trip and week long destination wedding????

— thoughts/opinions

so remember when i said i wanted to read ian and nia’s story? lol yeah so …. didn’t really live up to what i wanted; we’re def teetering 1.5 rating

i mean yes it was easy to read but truly by the 54% mark i was like …. is this? gonna get better? (spoiler alert it kind of didn’t)

the plot was just no plot, it felt lacking, things were just like happening. i thought the flashbacks would emphasize their strong banter and unrelenting sense of passion and connection but … it didn’t

i usually like the books where it’s the last 2 single people and it’s inevitable that they’ll end up
together, but it just didn’t hit as much as i wanted it too

and just like every book i typically have frustrations with, there was just a lack of communication that wouldn’t made this better! ah! also ian?? i thought he’d be more nice? more patient? idk!? who were these characters!!

+1 to her singing teuila tho, i thought that was funny

another +1 to grace and cam getting married 🥹🥹

so yes this was my first book of the year, and i’ll likely forget it — open to recs pls and thank you!

ian is a man child and the tequila scene actually was the worst thing ive read.

it’s actually sad because the first 60% was so good but the author totally ruined it

omg can’t forget the fmc grovels in this book and it’s so annoying, like i’m reading fiction why is a woman begging for a MAN back 🤢

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

In His Eyes
is the second stand alone in Julie Olivia's Into You series. In His eyes is an enemies to lovers romantic comedy that angsty, sweet and steamy.

Ian and Nia worked together at the same company for 8 years, her as the HR rep and him as the company's lawyer. Even though he was flirty with her they always kept it professional. One time when Nia breaks down and considers crossing that line he turns her down, and she's left angry and embarrassed leading to their current enemies status in her eyes. Now they are forced to spend the next week together to celebrate their best friends getting married. Ian is looking forward to it and Nia is less than thrilled. The week that follows includes wedding party shenanigans, angst, passion, and forgiveness.

"This is what it feels like to melt into another person, to fall into them, to fall with them."

I enjoyed Nia's character . She was a bit uptight, but she cared strongly for those she let into her inner circle. I really loved her relationship with her brother and her brother's character as a whole. I wouldn't mind reading a book about him finding a soul mate. I was loving Ian's character throughout the entirety of the book but the conflict at the end kind of ruined him for me. He was overly harsh towards Nia after he misconstrues a situation and then doesn't even let her explain herself, it was frustrating. The chemistry between Nia and Ian was hot hot hot. When they give into their desires the steam goes through the roof and was perfect.

"I've spent years craving to know how her skin would feel, questioning what she tastes like, imagining what my name would sound like on her lips as she moans with pleasure."

Overall, In His Eyes by Julie Olivia is a cute enemies to lovers romance that is garunteed to please.

This was so good, exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. So many good tropes, enemies to lovers, the guy falls in love first, grumpy-sunshine, etc. Really fun to read, I just really hated the break up conflict, 1. because I hate the unnecessary 3rd act break up conflict idea in general, and 2. because his reasoning for being mad at her made absolutely no sense, he so unrealistically just shut her out and jumped to stupid conclusions based off of a small moment. I also feel like all of the great enemies to lovers tension and angst that had been present throughout the book was gone at this point and never came back. They had their break-up, got back together, but through those two things it felt like reading about a totally different, boring couple. Still loved this, just wish the ending was a little different. Seemed like the author had a deadline and had to make up something quick to get the story finished, but I really loved the first 80% of this.

So close to rating this a 5*!!

I LOVED this book, I read this after the 1st one even though they could be read as stand alones and Im so glad Ian and Nia got their happy ending 😭💗

I loved how funny I found nia and how sweet and kind Ian is.

Enemies to lovers vibes ( except he’s always been in love with her ) 😭

It doesn’t have a plot really it’s just an easy going romance - if you like that as a palette cleanser this is for you 🙌🏼

Usually getaway wedding theme + last singles in the group of friends are a fun combo for me, but this was a miss more than a hit.

Fun time was just not being had here 🤷‍♀️

Not as great as the first book. Plot lines and character motivations struggled. I disliked their third act breakup. I also didn’t appreciate how they portrayed the characters from the previous book.

I enjoyed reading this book, but honestly there was a point where their lack of communication got tiring. So many things would have been easier if they just talked with each other.

This book is so fucking dumb. All of it is a miscommunication trope. The first “miscommunication” is so easy to have actually figured out and avoided. IT’S CALLED SOCIAL MEDIA STALKING JESUS CHRIST YOU ARE HORRIBLE AT THIS.

Also, the MMC apparently studied law for four years. That’s not a thing. This isn’t Europe. Law school is a three-year graduate program. Was it that fucking hard to Google that?!?! I’m not surprised given what a dumb dumb the MFC is and her own inability to use common sense tools.

I saw a video online that said if you're looking for some dirty talk in your book with a hot lead then this would be the book for you. But instead I got this book which was exactly, the opposite. Any scenes with dirty talk were short, far between and very much, not that dirty.
The two main characters were boring, over dramatic and lacked communication that made everything so much more frustrating than it needed to be. They acted like school children instead of grown adults.
The only characters I really liked were Nia's family, who, although constructed as 'crazy' were actually the normal ones in the bunch. Harry, oh my, yes. And Grant, although, coming with a lot of issues, was someone you rooted for more than the main characters.
The writing was a little immature, lacking any substance and was filled with a whole bunch of filler chapters that could have been left out.

I loved Ian and Nia's chemistry in In Too Deep, and the slow burn continued in this book! Ian's cocky charm is so endearing, but I love how Nia doesn't just swoon over him like every other girl.

Ian and Nia worked together for almost a decade, and now that they're no longer coworkers, they're stuck together for a week of wedding festivities since they're the best man and bridesmaid respectively. Nia's just hoping to make it through the week without falling for Ian's charm (again), but he's looking for more than just a vacation fling.

This was a fun story that can definitely be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading In Too Deep first because most of the characters were introduced in that book and this one builds off events from the first book. All of the characters are well thought out, and I enjoyed getting into both Ian and Nia's heads. Several chapters throughout the story take place in the past, which I thought gave good insight into our two main characters. The pacing was good for most of the book, but I did think the conflict resolution was too fast and a bit choppy. I would've liked a bit more time for our hero and heroine to work through the problems before reaching their happily ever after. That being said, it was a fun and enjoyable read, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing which characters get the spotlight in Julie Olivia's next book. (I'm hoping Nia's brother Harry is the next leading man.)

Honestly I’m disappointed

I read the first book a while ago and at the time I wasn’t interested in reading the next book. I’m in a slump and thought I would give it a try when it popped up in my recommended. I was actually bored through most of the book. Other than the parts that Grant and Harry were in. And ***spoiler*** this h is so unlikable and annoying that it made it very difficult to connect with her at all. She was weak yet a b!tch to Ian for 9 years. The fact that for 9 years they each had feelings for each other but were too immature to tell the other person should have been my first clue that this story was not for me. Although the book doesn’t discuss them dating or sleeping with other people in that time it’s a given since we know they didn’t go 9 YEARS without and that just grosses me out. To know you’re in love with one person but out dating or having sex with other people is appalling. The other thing that bothered me her reason for hating him the last few years wasn’t even discussed until the last 5 min and she swept it under the rug without him even explaining to HER. Yes we the reader knows what happens at this point but she just acts like it was no big deal and doesn’t ask questions. I’m sorry but WHAT?! She hated him and acted like a child for years because of that and then suddenly it didn’t matter. Then to make matters worse, Harry’s book is with the same woman Nia saw Ian with that night. Regardless of what happened, she intended on sleeping with him and was all over him. So I will not be reading another book by this author.

Bk. 2 of the Into You series, could be read as a standalone but involves characters from Bk. 1

Ian Chambers and Nia Smiths best friends are getting married in sunny Florida and whether they like it or not, they’re stuck with each other for a week doing all things wedding…and you know what they say about weddings, right?

This is slow moving plot wise to build up the tension between Ian and Nia. Dual POV flashbacks demonstrate how long the characters are supposed to have pined for each other and fill in some backstory for Nia.

The inciting incident for the conflict of the plot is - well, it is. Perhaps because this is a very tame story, the inciting incident didn’t hit as hard for me but I’m sure it will for other readers.

The buildup is the focus in this book again as the sex is tame (1 chili on the spice scale) for seasoned readers; though newer readers might blush? Sometimes, tame sex scenes hit the spot though.

Recommended for 18+ because it does depict sexual acts.

I don't know how to feel about it. Like it was meh. The plot was lacking, there was miscommunication and the entire thing took place in a week at a destination wedding. I didn't really care for the flashbacks, like what was the reason?

You're telling me Ian has been in love with Nia for like a decade and when she's finally with the program homeboy decides to cut ties with her bc oh no she got drunk during the Bachelorette party where she was supposed to be the designated driver initially but then one of the other girls decides to be and she's having fun and joking around with her friends and he took offense and won't talk to her to let her explain?? And then SHE decides to apologize and begs him to hear her out.. honestly it was so dumb and a lazy attempt at a 3rd act breakup if you can even call it that. LIKE HER KEYS WERE ON HER LAP.

Definitely a slow burn, I skimmed through parts of it - there's plenty of filler chapters.

Nia Smith and Ian Chambers have had unrequited crushes on each other for over eight years. She was the HR manager and he was the in-house attorney at the same company, which had a non-fraternization policy she wrote. He drove her crazy with his snarky comments and she took the bait each time. He leaves the company. They end up being in the same wedding party for mutual work friends. As part of the festivities the bridal party spends a week at a beach resort where the wedding will take place. They bride forces them to spend time together to get over their fighting. They start learning more about each other and eventually hook up. They have to work through several misunderstandings but get their HEA in the end.

This is book number 2 in the Into You Series and it can be read as a standalone novel. Ian Chambers is a sexy, swoony, egotistical lawyer. Nia has known Ian for about 9 years and she can't stand him. When Ian quit his job Nia thought that she would never have to see him again but that didn't happen. When her friend decides to have a destination wedding will Ian and Nia be able to stay away from each other with her being a bridesmaid and him the best man. The chemistry is there but will they be able to separate whats fake and real between them or will they decide to give this relationship a chance and will they get there happily ever after.

⭐⭐⭐

this book was fun. ian and nia were both likable characters, and i really liked the slow burn between them. i also surprisingly liked the flashbacks over the course of the book. it kind of gave them more of a depth, ya know?

the only thing missing from this book is more or less a general direction it was going. as said before, i liked the flashback and the depth it gave them, but on nia's case i don't see how it had anything to do with the story. it was kind of odd to say the least.

BUT the banter was fun, the steam was just right, and the characters were great. all in all, this was just as enjoyable as book 1.
