Cold Springs #1

The Wrong Bridesmaid

Rate this book
Opposites don’t just attract—they ignite—in a flirty against-all-odds romance by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Lauren Landish.

Wyatt Ford hightailed it out of Cold Springs to get away from his influential family and the unwanted privilege that came with it. Returning for his brother’s wedding dredges up every reason he left. One unexpected bright spot: a curvy knockout who slings burgers, hustles pool…and hates the last name Ford.

Hazel Sullivan is fiercely independent and happy to be maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding, but she isn’t looking for romance. Especially not with a man whose family is dividing her town into a battleground with their development plans. Fighting the family is easy. Fighting Wyatt? Not so much. Why does the enemy have to be so drop-dead gorgeous?

The sparks that fly between Hazel and Wyatt might start out as combat, but one kiss and it’s total surrender. How is a happy ever after even possible for two people with so little in common? Except, of course, for an overwhelming attraction and that growing temptation to say “I do” themselves.

I absolutely love this author’s writing style. Anytime I need good rom-com read I look for Lauren Landish’s books

Wyatt Ford left Cold Springs years ago to escape his family's legacy. Yes, he missed his family, especially his brother Winston. But Wyatt and his father haven't seen eye to eye what seems like forever.
So, as you can imagine when Wyatt received an invitation from his brother for his upcoming Nuptials.
Wyatt had not planned on returning to Cold spring. But his brother wrote only one word ‘PLEASE’ and that plea just could not be easily discarded.

As I started to write about Hazel’s character. I just had to stop for a moment and realized that I might write too much about Hazel or gave you too much information about her. That you might lose the urge to read this book, so I just wanted to share the knowledge that Sulliven and Fords have had a long running feud between them as long as most can remember….

For those of you that have never read any Lauren Landish’s books, this means that you’ll find small town drama, small town politics with plenty Lol moments and of course plenty of steamy scenes. and unforbidden chemistry, and of course a slow burn.

3.25⭐
Genre ~ contemporary romance
Series ~ Cold Springs #1
Others in the series ~ The Wrong Guy
Setting ~ Cold Springs (not sure what state we're in, but I think it's on the East Coast and there's a y'all thrown in once in a while)
Publication date ~ October 25, 2022
Est page Count ~ 296 (26 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 9 hours 28 minutes
Narrators ~ CJ Bloom, Teddy Hamilton
POV ~ dual 1st, present tense
Featuring ~ best man/maid of honor, small town, opposites attract, slow burn, minimal steamage, no 3rd act breakup

Wyatt & Hazel
Wyatt is back in the hometown that he left years ago to be the best man in his brothers wedding. He'll be in and out in a matter of days, or will he? Hazel is a hometown girl and best friends with the bride.

What bugged me the most about this one was that everyone judged Wyatt based on his family. I hate that. Just because his family is awful doesn't automatically mean he is. His Uncle Jed is trying to redevelop the small town. I liked that the whole town came together against this, but there was a bit too much emphasis on this as the plot and not on the budding relationship between the MC's, which is what I would have liked more. I liked Wyatt as a person. Once he decided he wasn't leaving town he was all in.

Hazel is a sassy one. She's wants nothing to do with a Ford, but doesn't seem to be able to deny her attraction to him. I liked her relationship with her family. And I'd really like to be able to taste a bacon and candied pecan topped cupcake.

Most lovable side characters:
~ the bride and groom, Avery & Winston, were so adorable. I kinda wish they had their own book, but it's too late now.
~ Avery's grandpa, Joe, was a feisty fella
~ Lester, the foul mouthed bird, was a hoot

Most in-between love and hate side characters and things:
~ Charlene was crass, but still somewhat funny
~ the name of the burgers (more towards hate with this)
~ the whole reasoning Hazel's family hates Jed is fine for a couple of years, but still 30 years later is a bit too long for me
~ pretty slow burn for most of it, then wham with the feelings

Most hateable side characters:
~ Jed
~ Rachel, the other bridemaid, was a little too aggressive for me
~ Cara, the wedding planner, was annoying and rude

Overall, this is middle of the road for me. But can I get a whoop whoop for no 3rd act breakup.

Narration notes:
I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

light-hearted read with some family drama

This made me smile a bit and was easy to read.

Wyatt Ford (maybe late 20s/early 30s) comes back to town for his brother’s wedding. He’s been gone for many years because of family drama, specifically related to his uncle and dad. It’s all good because he plans to leave soon after the wedding anyway.

He’s in the town’s restaurant when he overhears a woman about to beat a man playing pool. Except, no ordinary woman- it’s Hazel (20s?), as she’s hot AF… and EXTREMELY good at playing pool. When the man she’s beating becomes unruly and disrespectful, he steps in and ensures things go smoothly. That’s also when many realize that there’s a Ford in the room.

Why does it matter? Well, his uncle is planning to rezone some areas, which means that many people are going to be misplaced, which also means that many people don’t like Fords 😬.

After the pool debacle, Wyatt challenges Hazel to a game of pool, which she gladly accepts. But Wyatt is good 😅 better then she thought 😳. Too bad they never finish the game 😐 and then she finds out that he’s in the wedding- and he’s supposed to be her partner 😅.

Well, not if she can help it 👀🤣.

What I liked:
—the pool game. Oh man. Things were getting interesting too!

—the easiness in their relationship. Wyatt and Hazel unconsciously gravitate towards each other. They’re in the same space and they can’t but lock eyes or find a way of getting close 👀

—the 🔥. It’s on the medium-to-slow burn side. Their first kiss is at 50% and by 60% they’re both all in 😉. We get 3 full 🔥 scenes too. Not bad not bad 😅

—cereal eating and reciprocity 🥵

—tell me you’re all in without telling me you’re all in 👀. lol. He definitely felt all in way before he admitted it out loud

—the side characters.

—the scene where Wyatt helps her bake 👏🏻. I like me a man that isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty

—the fact that Wyatt gets in on the protesting 🤣🤭. Who’da thunk it 🤣

—the epilogue 🥹❤️

What I wanted more/didn’t like:
—the lack of protection or anything. *checks year* we’re in the 21st century right??? STDs and pregnancies ARE real things- they are consequences for not using protection, and many times, these are LIFE-long consequences 🤷🏻‍♀️. I dislike when authors just ignore that these exist. It takes one or two SIMPLE lines to make MANY readers feel comfortable with the 🔥 going on. Both Hazel and Wyatt weren’t the promiscuous kind, but still 🤷🏻‍♀️

—NO REDEMPTION AT POOL!!!! Are you telling me that we NEVER see Hazel and Wyatt finish a pool game?! YESSS 😑😐 that’s exactly what I’m saying 😑. This is what attracted them to each other and we never see them play again!!!! We see Hazel playing, but not Wyatt 😐. Sigh 😏

—the rezoning aspect. I was scratching my head at the plans and justification for what Wyatt’s uncle’s proposal entailed 🤔. Some research needed to be done in order to demonstrate the logic in these plans (eminent domain, 5th amendment, public good, compensation, etc).

Overall, I enjoyed this, but was annoyed at a few things 🤣

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/omd
-ow want the H or flirt with him, one wants to pursue him but then realizes he only wants the h so she stops. The H never gives her the chance either way 🤷🏻‍♀️
-classism
-alcoholic father
-no virgins/it’s been a while for the h and it seems like it’s also been a while for the H
-no condoms/no mention of anything 😐 it’s like STDs and pregnancies don’t exist
-edging/biting/marking
-HEA/epilogue/a year later

The plot was okay and the writing was pretty solid but it didn't have anything that stood out to me. Not gonna lie, it took me a while to get interested in the story because the first three chapters failed to catch my attention. Wyatt & Hazel meet at a wedding where the groom is Wyatt's brother and the bride was Hazel's best friend. I didn't like the insta love between Hazel & Wyatt and because of that I felt disconnected with both of them. I loved the flirting part though and Grandpa Joe was my favourite! Other than that, this was a pretty simple story with a wedding as a backdrop, some small town politics and with some flirting. Unfortunately, I don't think I was in the right mood while reading this, so I think I might want to give it 2.25 stars.

Thank you Netgalley & Montlake for providing me the ARC

Note to self: the heroine is a vulgar foul-mouthed little hooligan that has no class when speaking about her sex life to her family members, as one example. Who tells their mother what she put in her mouth the night before, who?! 🥴

Another new to me author, and i was really excited with the premises of a new rom-com author to follow.
I'm not disappointed at all!

The book was funny, sweet, entertaining and sexy! I really liked Wyatt and Hazel kind of meet cute and the evolution of their relationship was really good.
The book have more steamy scenes than i expected and that was another great surprise!

I also liked the whole "rezoning of the town" as the point of conflict in the story, instead of the old recipe of break up the couple for awhile... That's old and boring.

My only complain here is about the first 40%.
It dragged forever with the whole marriage ordeal, that wedding planner woman and the whole I hate you cause you're a Ford speech.
It also have so many random slangs used in one sentence, that it was starting to annoy me.
I'm not even bothered by the crudeness or crass ways of Hazel and her family, but the excess of local slangs to add sexual innuendos to everything were too much.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!
Would I read this author again? Of course!

Based off the synopsis, this romance novel was everything I wanted and more but page by page, the dislike for the heroine, Hazel, grew stronger. I'm all about strong, outspoken women but she was too crass for my liking and the fact that she fell in line with her family's thoughts about the Ford family instead of building her own opinion was just not it for me.

Besides the unlikeable heroine, the depth and character development was non-existent. We also can't forget the lack of chemistry between the main characters. Am I the only that that didn't see it? More than anything, it was more so instalust and I just couldn't picture Hazel and Wyatt together. Nonetheless—the heroine, side political storyline, and lack of chemistry made me drop this like a hot potato. Maybe next time, Lauren Landish!

📖Book 30/100
💫Genre: Contemporary Romance/Rom-Com
🧁🧁🧁🧁
This was a cute and witty read with the small town, enemies to lovers, and family fueds vibe (fueds in plural, and you know I love the drama). Wyatt left his small hometown to make a life of his own. He had it made since he came from money but wanted to find himself, and he did. But he hesitantly goes back to attend his brother’s wedding. He goes to Puss N Boots (a burger joint) and waaaalllllaaaa he sees Hazel…instalove😍 But she’s been warned about his family and him, what’s a girl to do?
💖🧁💖
This book had me laughing one minute and then swoon the next! And even though birds aren’t my thing, I feel Lester was a cute add on character. Heck, all characters were fun, except for Uncle Ford….F…k Ford😆🥴 I loved that the Female Main Character was a strong willed, feisty, and potty mouthed badass and that Wyatt didn’t care to change anything about her. This book also had some spice which made it extra fun🤩
The ending was a bit rushed but neatly wrapped it all up. This is my first book by Lauren Landish and definitely not my last. I highly recommend this one especially if you’re looking for a quick Rom-Com read.

Small town spice

Quick and spicy, this wedding-themed romance is focused as much on the small town drama as it is on the love story. It's a slightly different vibe than Landish's usual, still heavy on the spice, but a little easier and more laidback than expected. Our couple has instant chemistry before the heroine realizes who she's flirting with, which causes plenty of sexual tension and some friction. The story moves very quickly in terms of relationship development, with the whole book taking course over the hero's trip home for his brother's wedding. It had HFN vs. HEA vibes for me (I was actually surprised when they said those three little words and cringed at the lack of BC convo), but I thought that the chemistry between the characters was obvious and engaging. I would've liked significantly more time with them on the page together - and a whole lot less town nonsense - but this is sure to be a win for those who like that small town, community feel. It ended up somewhere between three and fours stars for me - an easy, forgettable read that held my interest while reading, but failed to leave a lasting impression.

The story follows Wyatt, a guy who returns home for his brother's wedding. He comes from an affluent family in town, and his family's reputation has always preceded him in life - which is the main reason he decided to move away. Upon arriving in town, Wyatt meets a brash, sexy woman, and the attraction is immediate. Things seem to be going well until Hazel realizes who Wyatt is, which quickly puts a damper on the sparks that had been flying between them. As the two prepare for their roles in the wedding, they keep running into each other. And it soon becomes obvious that Hazel won't be able to resist Wyatt's charms. But he's only in town temporarily, so they both need to remind themselves that anything that happens is likely only a fling.

I always know that I'm in for a light, playful, and super steamy read when I open one of Landish's books, and that is definitely the case here as well. It's short and sexy, with a low angst feel and plenty of heat. The banter and chemistry is the major win, and Wyatt is also very easy to like. I loved that he was willing to explore his feelings for Hazel, and it was clear that he also fell first. There are some definite instalove vibes going on, which was almost necessary given the short timeline of the book. I personally would've swapped out a bunch of the town stuff in favor of more time with Hazel and Wyatt, because I really liked them together and I was not emotionally invested in any of the small town craziness. But some readers may enjoy that aspect more, and the book is short enough that it never felt like it was dragging. Overall, it's not one of my favorites from the author, but it did make for a spicy, lighthearted read.

Audio note: The audio is great! Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorite narrators, so I loved hearing his voice for this one. And C.J. Bloom always does a great job too, so the combination worked for me. It's dual narration with a runtime that's short enough to binge in a single day, though I wouldn't recommend listening at the office. Not only is there plenty of heat, but the townsfolk also have a lot of... personality... so there were a whole lot of inappropriate moments. The low angst, easygoing feel is ideal for the audio format though, so it makes for a great listen. I've got no complaints about the audio, and it probably made it easier for me to get invested in the romance. I ended up switching back and forth from text and audio, which was super easy to do.

Insomma, super consigliato!!!

I think this would have gotten a better rating if it wasn't for the male narrator (Teddy Hamilton) for the audiobook. He always sounded angry, even when he wasn't supposed to be. And he kept slipping into New York.. or New Jersey accent. (I'm not from there, so they both kind of sound the same to me.) He is a GOOD narrator, just not for this book. And the contrast between his angry voice and the females (CJ Bloom) gentle voice for him was jarring. I almost DNF'd, but the story eventually became entertaining enough to continue.

the wrong bridesmaid for the H, but this book ended up being the right one for me. short and simple small town read that brought on the banter, the flirting, the fluff, and enough spice. not to mention, the silly talking parrot - just the kind of comic relief that i needed.

I wanted so much to love this book. I miss simple small town love story with fun side characters and heartwarming townsfolk.

Well, this was not it!

The MFC, Hazel, LOVE her name!! Is feisty, stands up for herself and makes sure that no one eats her dinner. My kind of gal. Until you reach a certain point in the book when you’re like eyyyy hold your horses woman. Point taken. No need for all that vulgar sassiness.

I mean there’s feisty and telling things as they are and then there’s vulgar!
No matter how close you are with your family you cannot nonchalantly have a conversation with your brother about f*cking another man. Or tell your mom how last night you had a d*ck in your mouth. Or even blurt in front of half the town of how many times the MMC gave you an orgasm and how big his d*ck is. I mean SERIOUSLY?!

Don’t get me going on these townsfolk who are holding a grudge against the Ford family, who run this town. Or the language used with all these sexual innuendos all over town. What the h*ll is that about. No sense of decorum, no self respect. No classiness. Nothing.

Wyatt, is the estranged son who dropped out of college and left his family and the town to become a “man” without the help, connections and money from his family.

He came back for his brother’s wedding, demanded to know what’s all the upheaval in town and why is his dad involved. To be honest he plays no part in setting things right. His brother did. The townsfolk did. And the city council did. What was the purpose of Wyatt again? 🤔

Also, to be honest I have no clue why he cut his family off. His siblings are amazing. His mother is caring. And his dad has always been his role model. His uncle, the Ford that is hated by the town, is the one who wanted to control his life but instead of standing up to him, Wyatt leaves town and punishes his innocent family in the process! Real mature man!

I didn’t relate to the MCs. Their romance was rushed. They fell in love in 2.5 weeks.

I am very disappointed ☹️. Bad book 🐶

I was very entertained by this story. Lately I admit, I've been in a bit of a book slump- everything feeling kind of "eh" to me. I worried this would follow the same vine but it didn't. Once I started, I didn't want to put it down and the flow of Hazel and Wyatt's love story was just right.

Wyatt is home for a wedding, hasn't been back in years, and it seems the whole town is fighting his family. Hazel is on the town's side, and she has her guard up at first but he's pretty persistent about getting to know her. Plus, they're both in the wedding. I love the genuine connection they build, the undeniable attraction, and the way everyone is all up in their business. But I especially love her silly bird. He provided great comic relief. This was just all around a pleasure to read.

Lauren Landish is a consistently great author for me. I particularly love how she writes her heroines: strong, sometimes quirky, feisty, badasses! And Hazel in THE WRONG BRIDESMAID is all of that and more! I fell in love with the ballsy, pool-hustling Hazel!

And the chemistry between Hazel and Wyatt was FIRE. Wyatt's dysfunctional family basically owns their town and reading as Wyatt found his own path and then stood up for what was right was sweetly satisfying!

The cast of small town characters in THE WRONG BRIDESMAID were fun and totally endearing! Definitely a high point!

And, good Lord, does this author ever bring the STEAM. And I loved ever word of it. All the well-written chemistry between Wyatt and Hazel makes their steamy scenes even better.

I really liked THE WRONG BRIDESMAID. Another great book by Lauren Landish that you should definitely read.

This was a new to me author so I was excited when I was asked if I’d be interested in an ARC copy! I really enjoyed it, it was such a sweet, funny and entertaining read. It did take me a little while to get into it properly, but it got better when I really got invested in Hazel and Wyatt’s characters/relationship.

Opposites definitely attract with Hazel and Wyatt. Hazel is feisty and badass and Wyatt comes from the typical rich/privileged family. I loved their banter and chemistry. I enjoyed the background conflict in the story too. It kept the book more entertaining. Also, the Parrot, Lester, completely stole the show. The way he had me laughing, so funny🤣

I’d definitely read more from this author!

An enemies to lovers (ish), small town romance. I loved everything about this story. The setting, the characters, the storyline, and of course the small town feel. Wyatt Ford discovers that a lot has changed since he hightailed it out of Cold Springs without finishing college. Now he’s back for his brother’s wedding and it appears that his family are now pariahs in town. All thanks to his Uncle Jed, who it seems has become an evil overlord with visions of grandeur, he has no thoughts of the townsfolk and how his plans will affect them. Unfortunately on his return, Wyatt is tarred with the same brush, and he finds he’s having to prove himself to the townsfolk, one in particular, Hazel Sullivan, his sister in law to be’s best friend, and the one person that Wyatt wants to see him for who he really is. Hazel is most definitely a feisty one, and sparks fly, both in and out of the bedroom. Opposites most definitely attract. I loved their witty banter, and their blatant honesty. A refreshing, entertaining and completely addictive fun romance. Cold Springs is definitely the kind of town I’d love to visit, love the camaraderie and love the townsfolk. Highly recommend.

This is a small town romance, and it’s exactly everything that you would expect it to be.
Wyatt, the groom’s brother, is instantly interested in Hazel, the bride’s best friend, as soon as he sees her. But of course, despite the physical interest from Hazel’s side as well, there are some sort of complications.
The plot is always surrounding how these two got to this point in life and what is keeping them apart despite wanting to get together.

The interactions between the two main characters are most of the time adorable and it’s fun to see them acting certain way when you know they want something else. The main problem was how almost every side character is awkward af. And so was the smut.

There’s a lot of pressure on both main characters and it’s interesting to see how they deal with it.

Thank you to the author for sending me a physical arc for this book!

Lauren Landish delivers a story full of fun banter and lively characters in The Wrong Bridesmaid.

As William Wyatt Ford the third aka Wyatt returns to his hometown of Cold Springs to witness his younger brother Winston marry. And finds the battle lines have been drawn between the lifelong residents and his dad, the mayor and his uncle Jed. An unscrupulous developer who wants to bring major change to the historic town.

Where he meets spirited and sassy Hazel the maid of honour and even though she's been taught to heartily despise the 'Ford' family name. She can't help but be charmed by Wyatt, especially as he's willing to help the protest against his family.

And with sweetness, humour, great pacing, memorable characters and a crazy parrot. This was a really enjoyable read and the perfect story if you're in need of a pick me up.

This was a laugh out loud read that keeps you on your toes. A foul-mouthed parrot, a bakery and bar with toe curling eats, named for seduction. An attraction that should never be, and the name Ford that doesn't refer to the automobile. I so enjoyed this book, Lauren is amazingly skilled with drawing the reader in with words, bringing the story to life in the imagination.

DNF at 63%. This isn’t terrible; however, I’ve reached my limit.

1. The rich family in town is reviled by the heroine’s family. “Why?”, you ask. I ask that as well.
a. The hero’s uncle broke up with the heroine’s aunt back in the day.
b. The hero’s uncle is a slimy sleaze bag who is out to make a buck for himself and puts a lot of pressure on the hero’s family as well as everyone else in town.
c. The hero’s uncle seems to employ everyone.

Makes sense that the hero’s uncle might be disliked… but there’s no reason that the whole family is “evil”. Especially since we’re going to attend the wedding of the hero’s brother. We meet the hero’s sister and she’s pretty cool too. So is the hero’s mom. And the hero’s dad “used to be cool” but now he’s contaminated by cowtowing to the uncle. It’s a weird setup.

2. The author doesn’t understand zoning and eminent domain. Not a rare condition; however, it would be nice if they had researched and not just spread misinformation. As a city planner, I see folks who think this way all the time and it’s annoying to see a book that spreads this kind of misinformation.

a. The hero’s uncle is in cahoots with the hero’s dad (who is the mayor) to rezone some properties from farmland to single family.

b. Supposedly, once these properties are rezoned, the existing owners will be kicked off their land. “They’ll be forced out for their land… Sure, they’ll be compensated but some of them would rather keep their land. Not to mention I figure they won’t get the amount they deserve…” (actual quote). That’s not how zoning works. Rezoning a piece of land doesn’t magically give a town power over future development. It ALLOWS for owners of this land to develop in a way that’s compatible with the new zoning, but it doesn’t REQUIRE them to develop in that way. AND it doesn’t FORCE people to give up their land or to sell their land. In the United States, we have the 5th Amendment to the Constitution that states: “Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” If a jurisdiction “takes” a property (research eminent domain and “Takings Clause”), then it must be for a public benefit/use. It’s VERY unlikely that this would be for single family homes AND that if they do take it, they need to pay a fair market value. Authors, do your research!

3. We have the gratuitous mention in the beginning that the hero would never get married. It’s dumb and unnecessary, especially since he’s the one that wants a relationship later in the book and the heroine is pushing away.

4. Cringe festival of a first sex scene. The descriptions were so awful and they don’t use protection (or even discuss it) and after being filled with his “cream”, the heroine leaps up and goes about her business with no mention of cleaning up.

5. The weird switching of maid of honor position because a bridesmaid wants to flirt with the hero. Uh. Flirt with him outside of the procession. Don’t force your way into being his partner when it totally shifts the wedding party.

Sadly, this book isn’t keeping my attention. It’s just not worth continuing. I don’t care enough.

I absolutely loved Hazel and Wyatt's story. They are these great characters that are easy to fall in love with and hard to forget once you have finished reading the book. They are perfectly fleshed out with all their little quirks and flaws that make them even more endearing and relatable.
Their chemistry is out of this world, intense and oh so forbidden. But then, it is well known that the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. So no one can blame them for succumbing to their attraction, despite all their efforts to the contrary.

Their banter and Hazel's sharp-tongued wit and sass never ceased to make me laugh, and Wyatt is just the right amount of rough around the edges to make him that lickable badass bad boy who isn't so bad after all.
I was enthralled with both characters and their multi-layered personalities, as well as most of the secondary characters, including Lester the parrot with his witty comments.

The Wrong Bridesmaid is a fun and entertaining read with enough suspense and some unexpected twists to keep the reader turning the pages even faster only to devour this emotional, laugh-out-loud, feel-good romance novel.

Thank you Netgalley Montlake for providing me with an ARC.

The Wrong Bridesmaid starts off strong with a compelling introduction to Wyatt and Hazel. Told from dual points of view you get to see inside both their heads. I loved the banter between these two and the slow burn build-up. The first 60% of this book flew by and then it fizzled a bit. Still, it was a solid 3 and 1/2 I had been thinking 4 stars up until that 60% mark.

If you like
- Weddings
- Small Town dramas
- Enemies to Lovers contemporary style.
- Strong Female Leads.
- Some good mid-level spice
Then this is the book for you.

Spoilers:
The writing was strong and engaging, I think the main problem that I had was the fact that Wyatt had a whole life in another town and just decided to leave it all and stay with Hazel or had no intention of going back anytime soon. I guess that is the perks of having a family with money however Wyatt was written in such a way that it seemed unrealistic that his life outside of cold springs was unimportant or something that he was willing to just move on from after a week or two,

Wyatt Ford is the oldest of three siblings. He has a brother, Winston, and a sister, Wren. They family home is Cold Springs. His father is mayor of the town and is on the city council. His mother is president of the Junior League and past head of the PTA The family home is huge and the name Ford is very big in this town.

Wyatt moved away some time ago but has agreed to return to be his brother’s best man as he marries a local girl named Avery. As Wyatt returns to some of the local diners and bars, he meets a waitress named Hazel who is also a crack pool player with a dirty mouth.

We see the players in the wedding going through all of the preparations as they lead up to the big day. Yes, Hazel is Avery’s Maid of Honor.

Well, this book had a good plot to start with, but in my opinion, it was ruined by the profanity everywhere that was so unnecessary. Why did the author think she had to stuff this book with such ugly language? I’m certainly not a prude and have even used a few of these words myself on occasion. I’m just disappointed that a potentially good book was ruined by this.

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶 🌶 🌶

This book was such a fun, feel good read that left me with a big smile on my face! As is typical with a Lauren Landish book, there are so many lovable (and hilarious) characters with their own stories going on, that I became invested in so much more than just Wyatt and Hazel’s romance. In fact, I became invested with saving an entire small town and I really loved that part of the book.

Wyatt and Hazel fall for each other pretty quickly and as a rule that doesn’t bother me in books and it definitely didn’t in this one either because I felt like they got to know each other well. Some may call Hazel a little crazy, but I call her my spirit animal and maybe she is a little crazy but in the best of ways! I loved how the more serious Wyatt loved all that about her.

While there is maybe a little less spice than some of the authors other books, there is still a good amount and it’s also mostly angst free! I loved everyone in this book except for about two bad guys, but I love Lester the dirty mouthed parrot the most!
