Lazarus of Bethany: Uncovering the Theology Behind Jesus Raising Lazarus From the Dead

Rate this book
★★★ Discover the true miracle of Lazarus being raised from the dead ★★★
Lazarus is an amazing story.
A man rose form the dead! You just don’t get anymore awesome than that, right! So that’s it then. That’s what we are supposed to learn from his resurrection, right? Not exactly. Jesus performed lots of miracles. John said it best when he said that there would not be room in the whole world to describe all that he did.
It’s easy to look at the stories of miracles and see them for what they’re miracles. But that’s a shame. If the miracle is in the Bible, there’s a reason for it. It’s not just there because it was miraculous. With Lazarus, a man rose from the dead—an amazing miracle, no doubt. But there’s more to it then that. There’s a lesson to be learned. Lazarus wasn’t just a man who raised from the dead—he had a life before and after his resurrection. And Jesus didn’t perform the miracle just to be flashy.

An evangelical approach to the story of Lazarus. Well written and shared in an inclusive and non-threatening way.

It would be an excellent introduction into the Christian values about Resurrection and Why Jesus embraced his own death. Consequently, and the author adds his own questions at the end of the book, for personal reflection or shared within a Bible study environment.

I enjoyed the additional insights into John’s gospel; why that New Testament book was written as it is and the lessons drawn out about, prayer, God’s Will and the faith of women.

It was also a blessing to read the author’s exegesis on the far from simple verse “Jesus wept”.

This is an open introduction of a book to learn more about Lazarus and to take that study as deep as you want with additional information about pilgrimage and early church tradition.

This is the second book by this author that I have read and I love them! Scott Douglas does something different with theology than anyone else I’ve read. He tells you the facts while writing in a way that reads as a story. I always finish and want more. These books aren’t long enough in my opinion. I would love to read more of whatever he writes

This book was OK. It showed a great deal of promise and with a bit of care and expansion could be brilliant (it was VERY short). First it needs a better editor (at least for the kindle version) as there were a few sentences that were clearly missing necessary characters, and possibly words as well as some inconsistency that I found jarring. The author had some great insights and ideas (thus, my encouragement to expand and get a better editor), but never seemed to finish them off or do anything with them. The book could use a better ending and would also benefit from answering the questions: So what? Or, what should I learn, or do as a result?

There's some good stuff here, but its mixed among too many attempts to be cute and some questionable approaches to theology. The author understands Christian theology, but he takes too many leaps from silence which is always a road to trouble. In addition, his understanding of death and its aftermath is lacking in fullness and pushing into some dangerous areas. A reader will glean some good from this work, but he or she will have to dig through quite a bit of questionable content to get there.

Once again the author helps you dissect common Christian beliefs helping you understand the theology of some deep topics. Clearly written with humorous interjections from the author makes this a great book for personal or group study. The author has added discussion questions at the back as well as a few other resources. Highly recommend.

Well-written and informative, but there was not much new here. There wasn't much discussion of resurrection in general and not a lot of historical background. The most interesting part of the book was appendix that talked about the Islamic view of Lazarus and the various burial sites attributed to him.

HO-HUM...

Only about half of this book is about Lazarus... The rest is focused on scattered bits of theology and selling you another book. Overall, I found this one to be rather dull and uninteresting. Sorry, but Organic Faith Book 3 just doesn't work for me. (It's written like a university term paper.)

pleasantly surprised!

I actually accidentally bought this book with my butt. However I’m glad it did. The information and hilarious writing is now a wonderful addition to my kindle library. God must have wanted me to have the book- it was definitely what I needed

This brief book is like a really good bowl of stew: there are some solid chunks of meat, but there are also some spices! I laughed some, but I learned more than I laughed. Excellent source of not only information, but the passion of the Bible.

A good realistic review of biblical words.

Worth reading and give a reader more background information and insite to life during biblical times. Will read other books by author.

This is a hard book for me to rate, because I did not grow up in the church or reading the Bible as the child. I found this book pretty good and insightful. I enjoyed the questions at the end of the book to get people to think how the text may be impactful in their own life.
