Dino Crisis - Stranded

Rate this book
A group of researchers led by Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez gains a permit to visit the quarantined Ilha da Morte to prove either the truth or the fallacy of the whispered rumors of a giant lizard that lurks within the dark, unexplored jungles.

One problem after another plagues their mission, starting with their boat sinking during the landing, followed immediately by the loss of their satellite phone and the death of a team member. The expedition, now cut off from the world, takes a more dangerous turn when hooting and roaring in the night reveals not only that the animal they seek is real, but that there's more than one.

And they come closer each night.

The creatures soon prove to be the least of the team's problems after encountering another group intent on keeping the island--and everything on it--secret from the rest of the world, even if they have to kill to accomplish it.

I've read this once before and the author got in contact with me to read this new updated version WITH PICTURES!!

I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time, it's such an exciting story to get lost in. The description of the island and the different types of dinosaurs is just so well done. It's not just a T-Rex reeking havoc on a bunch of people who get lucky surviving, it's people taking matters into there own hands and surviving as best they can. The story is fast paced and edge of your seat because it's not just the dinosaur you have to worry about, it's the people too.

I love the addition of illustrations they are beautiful and they add an even more immersive experience to the story.

Thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to re read an updated version of a story that was already a joy to read the first time around. I'm so excited to jump right into the next book and see where the story goes from here.

3.5 stars. Honestly this book reeked of the screenplay of Jurassic Park 3, right down to the dino with the sail on its back and the bunker for the bad guys. However, I love me some sci-fi dino books so I did enjoy the story, though for the ending on a cliffhanger (sorry, spoiler) the book was much too long.

Emmanuel Hernandez is a renowned toxinologist who is on the quest for his next cure. He gets permission to visit a forbidden island off the coast of Brazil in hopes of discovering his next big cure. No one has set foot on the island for 60 years, or so they are lead to believe. When Emmanuel and his team land, they get more than they bargained for when they meet feathery velociraptors and other creatures that should have perished long ago. While not created in a lab like JP's dinos, these are brought in through a portal on the island from prehistoric times. And the people responsible for the portal don't want to share their technology... or their island. What began as a hunt for rare toxin cures turns into a fight for life between prehistoric lizards and everyday bad guys. And everyone wants you dead one way or another.

I could have done without the illustrations in this book. They were quite poorly drawn and honestly added nothing to the plot line. While there is research supporting that raptors indeed did have feathers, the more they were mentioned the more I kept picturing them being attacked by big turkeys...and the pictures didn't help. I felt like this book could have been better with some more research and scientific consultations and when compared to JP it feels like an amateur attempt at re-creating that. OK but not enough to make me want to finish the next books to learn the final conclusion.

This was a decent read and I found it enjoyable. I liked the premis eof the story and I maganged to read it quickly. I think that it could be marketed at a younger audience but I still really enjoyed it. I thought that there was a lot of action that was packed into this one book which wasn't a long read so this may work better as a series rather than a standalone. It was a decnt read and I would definitely read more.
