Silver Linings is a story of resilience from a Australian woman who knows more than most about what it takes to bounce back from hardship. Alex Fevola grew up with a love of horses and make-up, and a determination to work hard; dabbling in modelling as a teen led to a promising start to a career in photography. A new chapter in her life was just beginning when tragedy struck, and she lots her partner and the father of her newborn daughter, Mia. Then, with barely a moment to grieve, and a young baby dependent on her, Alex almost succumbed to a life-threatening health emergency. Life was to deal Alex Fevola many more lows and highs, not least of which she experienced through her turbulent relationship with AFL football great, Brendan Fevola. Now a successful businesswoman and founder of her own make-up brand, mum to four beautiful daughters and reunited with Brendan, Alex Fevola is ready to share her emotional journey. This is a story of triumph over adversity and pain, and making it through to the other side, stronger than before.
I couldn’t put this down, what a surprisingly inspirational read! So many obstacles to overcome, so many times she could have just given up, yet she soldiered on and flourished! Definitely made me think about life and finding silver linings differently.
What an inspirational read. There were still a lot of questions left unanswered but overall it was amazing to read what a resilient and hard working woman Alex is. And she went through so much at such a young age. To become such a success after all that is amazing. A great family. I still wonder why she only ever wears pants. Never see her legs.
Surprisingly good. I didn't know much about Alex Fevola outside of her stint on a dancing show and that she had a very on-again, off-again (and in my mind totally dysfunctional) relationship with some footballer.
So when I saw this at the library I decided to take a punt, with very low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised and read the entire book in just over one day. The writing style is somewhat simple and there were some key things in the book I would have been interested to know more about. Four stars for a really interesting (and honest) read. Not at all superficial -there is much more to Alex Fevola than I expected.
I absolutely loved reading Alex's book. Having been a Carlton supporter forever and following Fev and his family, I've always been interested in their lives. Alex shares the raw, horrifying, inspiring and heartbreaking story of her life, both before her marriage to Brendan and during/now. People may look like they have their lives together and that they 'have it all' but you never truly know someone's journey until they share it with you. I found Alex's story inspiring and one I definitely couldn't stop reading. 10/10!!
I have never read a book so quick. Such beautiful font and the most interesting story. Absolute page tuner. Cannot recommend highly enough. Even for those who haven't read a book for years. You'll surprise yourself how quickly you get through it. Only disappointing thing was when I closed it.
Silver Linings details Alex’s personal strength in this honest and vulnerable memoir of her life thus far. A brilliant book that I couldn’t put down, she describes personal experiences that many would not have known before. She does so with integrity and inspiration, showing the courage to turn darkness into light through the “silver linings” in life.
Thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. As an AFL supporter (not Carlton) I knew some of their story but it was nice to hear it from Alex's point of view and not how it was portrayed in the media. Congratulations on a wonderful book.
I’ve known a little of Alex’s story but it was great to get more of an insight and understand how she dealt with things that life threw at her. What a strong and resilient woman
Such an inspirational story of a courageous woman hitting rock bottom and climbing back up to enjoy not only a successful business but a loving family. Loved it 🥰
I absolutely loved this book! Could not put it down, read it in a day. A heartbreaking but inspiring book about staying positive on course and the power of the mind - What a strong woman!
So much adversity but so much strength to move forward and create the best life for herself and her family. I will all remember to look for the silver lining
This book was such a lovely read. You really do not know what someone is going through when you see them on the surface. This book was a great motivational read. Beautiful story.
Written very simplistic and it some parts repetitive, however I really enjoyed learning about Alex’s life, her struggles and how she overcame them through perseverance.
Started off really good. I really enjoyed hearing about Alex’s life and all the adversity’s she had faced. But toward the middle it felt like it just became about Brendan.
